[Q] [Discussion] What Apps you need for Firefox OS ?

Ehm.. Hello.. I am Ahmed Nefzaoui.. I am a Mozilla Community member.. From Tunisia.. and a Mozilla Official Representative.
No one denies Firefox OS needs more Apps.. OR let's say needs more well performing Apps.. That's what I am aiming at making true.. Or making part of it true.. That is why I am asking around:
What Apps do you want to see on Firefox OS marketplace? Maybe the question should be: What apps you miss from Android or iOS that you want in Firefox OS?
Please list as many Apps as possible. Thanx!
A SSH client
Well, I am a sysadmin, not a developer.
Try port FirefoxSSH to Firefox OS
Calendar and address book app with full caldav and carddav support.
CPU control or something like this
Great ones But to be honest.. I was expecting kind of apps like productivity, utilities, news, weather + some style guides, custom UIs..
Remote desktop to windows machine.
Multimedia apps like NetFlix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc.
Launchers, so you can pick and choose the feel of the phone, etc.
How about "Personal Accounting Software" or like this?

I was browsing around and saw this thread. Good timing too!
I have been thinking a lot about Firefox OS and how it may be the best hope at open source seeing as how Google is slowly taking backing away from open sourcing and making things rely on their closed APIs.
Anyway, I've given it some thought and I've realized that for Firefox OS to ever succeed, it will really be up to the app developers that choose to port or write apps, and lastly OEMs.
I'm not sure the people got the idea as they're listing forms of apps that are non essential or third party entertainment, that will eventually make its way over once the OS gains numbers.
Netflix, emulators, games ...would be nice but not essential to my mobile device as a productivity device. I would love if all my apps could be ported, but that's being too hopeful.
Bare bones, at the minimum, these are the most essential things:
1) A good simple note taking app. Nothing fancy. Think of AK Notepad or ColorNote
2) An office suite like OfficeSuite by Mobile Systems. & A good PDF reader with annotation support like ezPDF Reader
3) A good ebook reader with multi format support, like Cool Reader or Aldiko
4) A Google Voice dialer app (GrooveIP) + SIP and VOIP capabilities
+ A built-in text/messaging app would beat any third party options
5) A good email and contact system. This is a must have. I want to see easy transfer of Gmail and Outlook contacts + no frills push notifications.
6) An intuitive stocks app. I want to be able to gains / loses and real time prices. Lock screen widget of this would be nice.
7) Maps + Navigation (This a must)
It doesn't have to be Google. Although it would be preferred.
8) News/RSS reader + an app like pocket or read it later. + Podcast support
+ A forums reader like Tapatalk
Bonus...
If you guys could get devs or companies on board...
Dropbox
Pandora
Microsoft's recently released remote desktop or another alternative like Splashtop
Might be moot, but maybe you guys can work together with Adobe to port Flash (I know it's a long shot given they called it quits on mobile)

A MUST for me: Spotify
Not so neccesary: Instagram, Netflix, Photoshop Express, maybe Google Music, Snapchat, native Foursquare, Facebook Messenger...
For me the most needed smartphone apps are (not in this order.) : mail clients, chat clients, internet browser, navigation/maps, file manager, ssh/sftp clients, conversation recording (I'm using it very seldom, but it is a quite nice, almost important feature for me.), camera, sms , smart keyboards are quite nice also, notifications, calendar / task planners, video players... That's it I think.

Before to get Apps,we need an Excelent App-Caching(the most important part in such OS) and the best Responsiveness we can get.
About Apps,i think you guys(Mozilla) should do a Campaign to incite/stimulate developers to port their existing apps to Firefos OS(i hope all Packaged apps,at least near all of them)so you won't have the need to code,or other stuff related.
I actually own an Alcatel one Touch Fire..as main phone, and i think this will be very handly,i have this hope in Mozilla.
We need an Official channel directly with the our mother(Mozilla) to have upgrades for our phones, cause carriers are going to do a Bottle-neck effect on our phone software, and to do this ,the best choice is to get prebuilded-builds,probably it's hard but not all the people can follow that loooong Wiki on how-to-build-it-your-self.
Take the idea to implement Node-Js,i think it will be helpful this guy already doing something http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374160
As Google and the others company,Mozilla need to do simple way to take care of his Users
about apps: OpenVpn,SSH,PC-remote controlling(i'm thinking about a Gnome-Mozilla Collaboration
If you ask me, Firefox has had "apps" almost from the beginning. They are called "addons" (or, before that, extensions) and they handled all sorts of tasks which, prior to that, had only been possible as standalone applications on your desktop.
So consider my disappointment in finding out that all these addons are gone from the Firefox OS browser. They cannot be installed, as far as I can tell. There is not even any Adblock Plus. To me, this is insane, because the addons are the Firefox browser's greatest strength. Can someone explain this to me?
Graphic calculator will be a nice addition
Screen dimmer/ color editor (to make it look more green or red or anything)
adblock?
Hei Azuz !did you read this?

Multi Window "APP" for Galaxy tab 3 7.0 any model

There is an APP which give you the functionality of having multiple windows on your device[/B][/U], However its not exactly like the Samsung galaxy multiwindow found on the the galaxy note but it does give the functionality to have a;
- multiwindow web browser
- multiwindow Gplayer
- multiwindow Tiny apps ( like notepad etc)
and a multiwindow youtube player.
You guys can check this out if you want, its not exactly like the actual MultiWindow but it does the job in the sense that you can use these apps similarly to the Galaxy note with these similar features that for me actually look pretty alright. I dontexperience ANY lag when using this so far....
How to get this
Basically there are 5 apps required for this.
The main one is Swapps- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schiztech.swapps&hl=en
Then we have the features which give the apps so we require these apps on the side:
Floating Browser- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gpc.myweb.hinet.net.PopupWeb&hl=en
Floating Youtube- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sudsoftware.floatingyoutubepopupplayer&hl=en
G Player (SuperVideoFloating)- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gpc.myweb.hinet.net.PopupVideo&hl=en
Tiny Apps lite- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ragingtools.tinyappslite&hl=en
Download and install all of these and then open Swapps. In the General settings/Pad sections change amount or starred apps to about for because we downloaded 4 addons.
Now go home and slowly flick from the right to open the MultiWindow menu. and 4 add signs are there. Find and add those addon apps you downloaded and Viola!!

[Q]Some Must Have Applications for Note 3. Your Experience

Hi there
I was looking for some cool applications for Note 3 which you all are using. NO stock apps please.
Mainly I am looking to keep notes, looking at offline maps of cities (detailed), any way I could write with S pen and it is automatically converted into typed words. Other handy business applications that could be of help!
Thanks alot in advance!
Mobile Notes is a note taker that will transform your scribblings into digital text, LectureNotes is an excellent note taker for handwriting with S-Pen. There is also an calculator app that takes handwriting input.

MapsWithMe Pro. Brilliant offline map app, ridiculously detailed, it even lists benches and powerlines. Based on Openstreetmaps.Org as opposed to google maps.
Another app I've found to be incredibly useful is Sidebar Pro. It gives you a sidebar you can swipe onto the screen with a list of apps and toggles you can manually add (every app, not just a specific few) and also lists active apps you can open or swipe away to close.
There are free versions of both.

likewise, norootfirewall. (it's a bit meh compared to android firewall...)
disablemanager to disable some of the bloatware (although samsung marks some bloat as essential so you need root)
appops shortcut - to revoke the permissions for some of the things I install. pity you can't revoke the internet one
FileManager - decent free file manager without annoying fremium
JetAudio - FLAC, folders, DSP, etc (although the shake to switch song feature breaks up audio when walking - must be the sensor monitoring or interrupt algo :/ )
ezPdfreader \ repligo - instead of adobe reader for PDFs to easier scroll/page zoom. (although reflow is not perfect on either. by far)
MultiLing keyboard - because although beta-ish, it's pretty amazing for one handed typing and YMMV may have better swype.
a mix of super backup and i'm not sure what, because without root there's not TBU
Any alt apps for watchon for the IR remote?
Try smart remote...its a paid app, but it works for everythind I have ...climate control, hifi, tv, cable..ect....basically I hve not touched any of my IR remote after installing this.

ME70CX root/debloating

I recently picked up an Asus ME70CX (K01A), and thought I'd share my rooting/debloating experience. This process not only sped up the general UI speed/flow of my device (quite noticeably), it freed a considerable amount of RAM. Given the fact that this device only ships with 1GB, this process should help anyone looking to get the most out of this otherwise awesome little tab.
There have been other posts concerning the debloating of various other versions of the MeMO Pad 7, such as one by Gentaz pertaining to the ME572C. Take a look at his thread, as well as a few others concerning the rooting process of the ME70C/ME70CX if you are unfamiliar with the process as a whole. The following links will provide you with the tools/information necessary to gain root access with little more than a few clicks of the mouse.
1. Gentaz's post on the 572C; also helpful for some insight into some performance tweaks that I don't get into:
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/memo-pad-7/general/me572c-root-debloat-t2992131
2. A post that I added to concerning the rooting process for the ME70CX; make sure you reference the original post by smaury (links embedded), as it contains the AsusIntelRootKit tools etc:
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60518503&postcount=36
Once you're rooted, you can use Titanium Backup to safely freeze the following system apps/services from the stock, rooted 4.4.2 firmware:
1. Amazon Kindle
2. ASUS Demo
3. ASUS EZ Launcher
4. ASUS Launcher (make sure you have another launcher installed before you freeze these two, or you'll end up with a blank home screen)
5. ASUS Miracast Dongle Tool (unless you use one)
6. Bbbler Actors (wtf?)
7. Browser (ASUS)
8. Calendar (ASUS; has the same icon as calendar storage)
9. Calendar Storage (ASUS; keep if you've kept the stock calendar app)
10. Chrome
11. Cloud Print
12. Data Transfer
13. DLNA Service
14. Do It Later
15. Email (ASUS)
16. eMusic
17. File Manager (you may run into minor problems, as some native apps rely on the native file manager; still, safe to freeze and unfreeze later)
18. MicroFilm
19. Movie Studio
20. Music (ASUS)
21. MyASUS
22. Omlet Chat
23. Party Link
24. PC Link
25. Remote Link
26. Share Link
27. SuperNote
28. Weather (freezing this will remove it from your lock screen, saving considerable battery)
29. WeatherTimeService
30. WebStorage
31. What's Next
32. Zinio
Unfreeze any of these at any time if you need them, or just don't freeze them. I don't recommend uninstalling (unless you're confident in your Titanium Backup files), only because you can expand the memory to about 80 total gigs with a memory card. I suppose you can if you need the space, but I didn't try it on any of these.
Prior to this process, I was averaging about 350-400 free MB of RAM on tablet idle. Now, after a quickboost (RAM freeing tool in the quick settings toolbar), I'm averaging about 575-610 on idle. It goes down about 50 MB with encryption enabled, but the UI is considerably faster. My battery life has also drastically improved. I don't have specific numbers to give, but I've undoubtedly noticed an increase. These numbers can fluctuate depending on what Google services you use, as I use a whole bunch (including four email addresses and Google accounts).
Also, a quick note about the lockscreen wallpaper when you disable the ASUS Lanucher:
You WILL lose the ability to change the lockscreen wallpaper when you freeze the stock launcher. To change the wallpaper, simply unfreeze the ASUS Launcher, set it as the default, and use the function within the launcher itself (NOT the settings menu option) to change the wallpaper. You can then set your launcher of choice as the default once again, and freeze the ASUS launcher when you're finished. Your selection will be saved.
It is also worth mentioning that Xposed Framework does indeed work on my particular device, but I cannot be sure that it will work on yours (although I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't).
Feel free to reply with your own personal results with apps that I have not mentioned, or with your general gripes/pleasantries.

@Monster212
I bricked my Me70cx using xposed installer de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v32_de4f0d.apk.
Would you mind to share with us which xposed installer worked for your Me70cx?
Thank you
The xposed installer I used was de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v33_36570c.apk
I have not been able to get xposed to work for me...
That's odd, because it's working perfectly on my device.
Did you modify the file system in any way after you rooted it? Not freezing of system apps, but ASUS firmware updates?
For instance, there's a very odd 29MB system update that might appear after you root some ASUS devices (in spite of the fact that rooted devices usually don't receive any OTA updates). This happened on the first ME70CX I had. I accepted the update, and afterwards the device wouldn't enter recovery. No matter what. It was the same day I purchased it, so I returned it for an identical model; the same one I have now. This tablet did not receive that update. I did not try xposed on the first one, but it might be worth mentioning anyway.
That's really the only thing I can think of that would affect xposed.
Has this tablet got a custom rom for it yet? All i keep seeing is the ME176C(X) custom roms but this is ME70CX

Multi Window apps

Is there a list of the apps that support multi window? Given the lack of an ETA for the nougat update, I figure I need to get used to using the current system.
Well, to get the ball rolling: I found that the official RAR app supports multiwindow as well as Google's Photos app. Has anyone else found non-stock apps that support it?
Apps that I've found to support multi window:

I've found that if an app supports multi-window it'll open in a window the first time you launch it, so its easy to test.
I'm sure people are aware, but just to be thorough its worth noting that windowed apps can be pinned. Pinning them will mean they always stay on top, so they can be overlayed on another app. I've found this very useful. A good example is pinning a window of YouTube or VLC while running something like Chrome, Dolphin or even Facebook fullscreen. Its much like the iPad's picture-in-picture feature or the new Windows 10 screen overlay (which only works for 1 app) except the Yoga Book's solution is far more versatile.
I think that might be it, I haven't found any more.

I guess now we just have to wait for Nougat... :/
On the Galaxy Note 10.1 (first gen), a whitelist existed for supported apps. As such, the whitelist was modifiable. It seems obvious here that there is not a whitelist dictating this. Does anyone know what dictates multiwindow capability here? Is it as simple as a manifest modification?
I think the Lenovo software is tricking Marshmallow to think it's a phone. That makes the inability to resize the windows make perfect sense.
iDO Calculator
after trying about 50 calculator app, I found only iDo Calculator working in multi task on yoga book.

new update
An update last week added the ability to configure the size of the multi-window to "large" which is half of the screen so you can place them side by side like Windows.
And every app I've tried since the update now works in multi-window mode

Has anyone figured out a way to adjust what the defined multi window size is? I feel like it's just slightly too small to run some apps in a comfortable way =/
I ask bc its been months and still haven't not seen any proof of Lenovo giving the ability to adjust this any time in the near future. . .
