Note 4 / ASOP - CM ? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
What is the likeliness of the Note 4 having someone produce a CM / ASOP ROM for this device?
This isn't a request, but rather a question. Has any developer put their hand up for this yet?
Just trying to catch up on any CM / ASOP Note 4 related news i may have missed. I have done a search, but nothing of great value arises, and i am sure i am not the only one who is keen to find out....
Cheers

I haven't seen any progress on it yet. Firstly a CM developer would need to get their hands on a Note 4.
I'm hanging out for Cm12 on the Note 4, so hopefully within the next month or 2 development starts.

Me too - with the release of Android 5.0 - comes the quickened release of CM12 - if the Note 4 wants to see Android 5.0 before June next year, its only chance is through CM or some alternate ASOP variant !!!
Samsung are VERY slow at releasing updated Variants for the android OS for their phones... but luckily not the slowest...
I'll keep this post here, so that we at least have some kind of discussion growing with respects to the Note 4, and hopefully someone might pick it up. I would love to do it myself, but i have very limited knowledge of android coding if i knew how i would totally do it...

[Q] cyanogenmod exynos status i9500?

Hello,
Moderators, please take it easy on me as I am really confused on the whole matter.
I heard allot about cyanogen not coming to our phones due to Samsung not releasing the Exynos documentation for the I9500.
But yesterday, I read on g+:
"Finally, just a note that Exynos 3 and Exynos 5 devices are not impacted by the information above. The Nexus S allows for a solid Exynos 3 base, and the Nexus 10 for the Exynos 5 base. We have an i9500 in hand and will be working towards bringing the Exynos 5 Octo platform up to release quality as well."
Could one or some of you kind people please answer some questions for me?
1. How will cyanogen release any ROM if no documentation for exynos 5 is released?
2. Have they decided to support rom development since they now have a i9500? I'm just wondering because if they had the nexus 10, wouldn't it have been possible to have started rom development sometime ago? or is it crucial that they first have the device to support it. I don't quite understand how the nexus 10 and the i9500 could be of the same base. whilst they both use exynos, no documentation is released?
3. I hear many people would prefer to stay away from exynos devices in future, and rightfully so, because the lack of documentation. But if cyanogenmod does come to the i9500 would it be right to say that it may have the same fate as the exynos 4 devices in the near future?
4. Would cyanogen support have root triangle and mobile oddin coming to our devices? Yes, I do understand those are entirely different developers, but I'm just hoping something may come of it?
5. Now that cyanogen would make it to the i9500, is it worth getting this phone or should I wait for the i9505? I've heard sound quality, and battery life are quite good on i9500. I do not need LTE at this moment in time.

Porting Android L

Dear Developers,
I saw a few days ago that the Nexus 5 got a Developer Preview of Android L.
I wonder if it's possible to port the Nexus 5 rom to the Galaxy Note 3. Since the phones are very simular in specs.
The Developer img can be find here: http://developer.android.com/preview/setup-sdk.html
If this would be possible, i would thank the dev a 1000 times.
Greetings, Paul
From what I understand is that Android L is still under heavy developing, I don't think we'll see a ROM for Android L in a couple of months. Besides, even if we would, it would be buggy as hell I believe.
That is more of an alpha build and it's mostly for developers to give them an early idea how the os runs, so they can port apps before the official release is out.
The final version will most likely be out with the nexus 6.

CM11 for Note 3 SM-N900 Please

hello friends.....
i was wondering if we can have cm based roms for our note 3 exynos or not ???????
Perhaps we should set up a bounty.

A guy had a port, no kernel people helped him and he disappeared after getting really angry and disappointed with the devs
Not too far off....
There seems to be some activity in the recent past with other exynos5420 devices getting cm11; so n900 may not be too far off. If you look for sm-t530, sm-t700, 800 and 900 - (all tabs seemingly very similar to our phone spec-wise), they all have recently seen ports of cm11. It's probably just a matter of when someone experienced/knowledgeable starts off for our device.
I'm trying to get a successful build myself, but with my level of knowledge and inexperience, it would take months trying to get where experienced devs can get in minutes.
Guys, take a look at Halaszk github, he is porting it for us..... But, it'll take at least 2 to 3 weeks more.......

[DOUBT]Is CM12.1 a real possibility?

Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying a OP2, and yesterday I recieved my invite, but I don't want Oxygen OS because I usually do hard modding stuff, so I would need at least CM12.1 and starting from there maybe a ROM like RR or AOKP.
But the CM development is still in process. So my question is, it's real thing for sure in time (I don't care how much time)? Or it may be the possibility that CM never comes??
Thanks.
I'd say: Wait until they got Android M managed. It's possible that CM 12.1 will never be that important for us, because all hopes are in Android M and it's possibility to get at least the fingerprint working. Fallout 4 also made us wait longer, because most devs are overwhelmed from it (me too ). Also the OPT isn't that frequented until now, so... it's too early to discuss about general abilities. But I doubt, OPT won't get CM. Too many were hyped and it's a damn good phone - not only for the price. Let's hope, devs will get the needed support from OnePlus to get their sources working. Fingers crossed .

Custom ROMs for Tab 8 Plus?

Im thinking about getting a Tab 8 plus 4/64 to replace my Nexus 7 2013.
I don't see much development support for the Tab 8 Plus. Great to see TWRP and root.
Do you think there will be an XDA community for this device?
There are so few upgrade choices from the Nexus 7.

There seems to be a problem in terms of availability for the tablet worldwide, which is why very few reports have come through.
I have specifically bought this Tab 4 Plus with WiFi and 64GB storage as a Nexus 7 replacement and I am super happy with the decision. Custom recovery and root works as described. Give it a couple of weeks and I assume there will be a dedicated forum for the Tab 4 Plus here on XDA. And as soon as Lenovo publishes the kernel sources for the device, there will be many custom ROMs to choose from.
Right now, the Android on the device is pretty vanilla and serves its purpose very well.
Giving this thread a bump. Dev support for this device still seems pretty quiet. Been eyeing the 4/64 GB on eBay for $330. It ships from Korea.

Do you know if it passes SafetyNet with Magisk 14.3 and Magisk Hide or if it will require a custom kernel to hide the bootloader status?
Hey, I got myself a Tab 4 8 Plus from South Korea recently - the 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage version. I've used CyanogenMod and LineageOS for ages on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2013, and I'm a little sad the Tab isn't supported yet. If anyone involved in development is interested, I'd be happy to help however I can with my device. I'm not familiar with Android development, however - I'd totally try and port LineageOS to this if I could.
there's a guy in the root thread that was saying he was starting a debloated ROM. lets see if he delivers. this sure is the best android tablet in the market!
Hi guys, I just got this tablet from singapore seller, but it come with chinese rom,
I'm not familiar with lenovo (use to be xiaomi fans).
Is there any tutorial available to change it to global rom? and is there any forum to discuss bugs on each rom version like on the xiaomi miui forum?
I can't find any donwloadable link in the lenovo web support.
Thanks
I did get a Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus to replace my aging Nexus 7 2013. Unfortunately, that was two months ago now and I'm still using my Nexus as this Tab 4 keeps cooking uSD cards. Apparently it's a known problem, some say hardware, some say software, some claim it was fixed with the December 2017 update, some say it's still there. Either way, I want to root this potentially sweet tablet and drop on Lineage or something custom before I give up on it, but for that I want a decent custom ROM.

Since the source code was published by Lenovo there is now a good chance to get something custom if there will be a developer to help us out building a rom.
I did read a lot of complaints about a lack of source code from lenovo, but it was released in November from what I can see. That's six months ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath for anything useful soon.
This nifty little tablet is really awesome. The almost stock android experience is nice... But the additional customisations of a custom ROM would be helpful. Right now lenovos system UI is quite picky about being modded and would FC when I try to tweak the nav bar.
yes, maybe after oreo update there will be some custom rom...

I use Xposed and GravityBox to modify the look of the Nav bar.
