Is it me or is there no selection for a silent ring tone or "none" as an option.
I prefer no ringtone but to keep all my other alerts audible. Has anyone figured a way to add ringtones without root? It doesn't seem to find my file whether it be .ogg or .mp3
If anyone cares, I managed to get it by adding the ringtone file(s) to the Ringtone folder in side of the main "Media" folder on the Phone's memory.
On the next update they fix that

Sure. But you have to use File Explorer to copy the ring tones from "\Windows\Rings" to "\Windows".
Tried... But still can't get the ring tone into the alarm tone list... Is there anything else that I need to do??
If the audio file is a compressed WAV file, it won't show up in the list of sounds. You should use only uncompressed WAV files.
How to differential between compressed and uncompressed wav files? The icon shown in the windows explorer looks the same as the rest of the alarm tone.
right click on the file on the pc and choose properties
choose summary
audio format should be pcm
Checked... It's a Midi file... So no way to use it as a alarm tone?
Is there a way to change the text messaging alert sound to something i make up? From my computer,
1. does it have to be mp3 or midi or wav?
2. where do i save the file so it will show up as one of my audio options....

Put a sound file into your \windows directory, go into settings/personal/sounds & notifications, I'll assume you can figure it out from there.

That is where you are to place custom ringtones, and i believe that they appear for Text Messages too...just not for Alarms

Does anyone know how to change the New SMS notification sound for a custom MP3, WAV, WMA one??
Changing the ringer sound is super easy (You just copy the new ringer to the My Ringtones folder and then choose it in the Settings > Sound and Notifications window. But when You choose the New SMS from the menu, the new MP3s, WMAs and WAVs from the My Ringtones folder are not there. They are only available for the Incoming Call setting...
Can anyone help me and tell me how to change the SMS sound for a custom one?
EDIT: Problem solved. You need to copy the sound in WMA or MP3 format into the Windows folder on Your device. Works for me.

Hi, I have had my HD2 for close to 2 months already and have yet to find a way to set mp3 or personalized audio files as ring tones. Any body can help?

put the file you want as ring into windows/rings.
Thanks. Managed to set it as ring tone. But message tones cant be customised ?
You can try putting the mp3 files in My documents folder. Makesure not in any sub folder and give it a try. This way you can customise either your ringtone or message tones

They're two folders on your phone. "Notification" and "Ringtones". Put audio files in the notification folders for the notification tones and audio files in the ringtones folder for ringtones. Then you should be able to see them in the list when changing your tones either in system and individual apps.
