Ok so I'm trying to trace down what might be happening here.
Ive got a LG Tone Pro 750 BT headset which I totally love for the most part (epic battery time for one thing). Bought it about a month ago.
About a week ago, maybe two, something weird starts happening. I'll get a call, pick it up and no sound. Caller may or may not hear me, but if they do, it appears to be garbled (I've done a poor job of asking callers if they could hear me and inquiring about that part of the experience so not very good feedback there).
Since I'd had the BT headset for a couple weeks already, I don't even consider there could be a problemo there. So I take the SG4 to Sprint and have a tech check it out.
He comes out to see me (never happens).
Asks me if I have the LG Tone Pro headset. He then proceeds to tell me that he has the same problem on his LG (!) phone with that headset (although it's a later model than my Tone Pro 750...next one up from that model).
He says that the only way he has been able to fix it is by unpairing and re-pairing the headset. Says he has to do it every other day or so.
That was early last week.
So for the next day or two, I go without the headset being re-paired. All is well with the three or four calls I get.
I pair the headset but don't get any calls. I do listen to some podcasts and that is fine (but was never a problem so no change there).
The next day (this morning) I get a call. Problem is back. I try turning off BT making calls and that doesn't fix it. Have to restart the phone.
So I do and I can now make and receive calls. However, BT is off.
It sure looks like this is a problem with the headset.
But I also noticed a preponderance of SG4 owners complaining about a somewhat similar issue where the mic would suddenly turn off on their phone, mid call. Seems WIFI signals would somehow interfere with it (I tried turning off WIFI though and that didn't fix it).
Is there anything else I can do to diagnose this better and maybe get to the bottom of it?
What could be happening here? Is this the headset not playing well with the OS? Is there a way to tell?
Why would this start happening off a sudden two weeks after I'd been using it heavily with no problems?
Also, I'm trying to find more instances of this issue online but it's tough one to Google.
(As a side note, LG doesn't seem to be a very good company when it comes to customer service. I saw several instances on Android Central where their customers reported issues with the headset and then were told their posting violated the TOS of the forum. WTF is up with that? Have they not realized there is ths thing called the Internet? Do they think people won't eventually catch on? )
I'm seriously considering returning this thing, but the truth is, I really want to keep it if I can get it to work. Probably a pipe dream though, now that I've written all this out. lol
I'm even considering rooting my SG4 and throwing another ROM on to see if that fixes it. That's how much I like the headset.
Happy to receive any feedback from fellow forum members. Thanks in advance.
PS: Just realized I haven't really tried just unpairing and re-pairing more than once so I'm going to test that some more over next few days meanwhile...
I am having the same problem but with different headset (MOW and Jabra).
One thing that I tied worked but I can only use my headset to listen to music. In each headset setting located in the Bluetooth pairing list, I uncheck the CALL AUDIO and leave the MEDIA AUDIO check. This allows me to use my headset for music but not calls.
A complete fix would be great, please?

Glad you posted this because I hadn't even thought to try, as part of my troubleshooting, whether I could still play media on the phone through the headset when call audio was not coming through.
Last night I made a couple of calls just fine with my LG Tone Ultra (upgraded to see if this fixed the problem, but no change) and then made a third one. On this third one I could not hear any sound but the call connected (it was to my wife--she later told me she got a call but no sound on her end either).
So this is very strange. Somehow the BT headset is just dropping the call side of the audio.
And, it's doing so randomly.
Sure would like some more insight on what is likely the cause of this situation. I submitted a question to LG through their website but no response. That was days ago.
Chapter 2 of this problem

Just posted a new thread on this issue with some log data that I'm hoping a kindly dev may help decipher.
Letting you know in case you want to keep an eye on that thread as well.

I have a Cingular 8125 paired with a Plantronics 320. When I answer an incoming call with my bluetooth headset, the other party hears static while the headset establishes a connection. Once the connection is ready, the static disappears. It only lasts for a second or so, but is highly annoying to the other party. Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution? This also happens with my old Tekkeon BT headset, so I know it is a phone issue. Thanks!
Are you using both ring and vibrate at the same time? Perhaps a custom ringtone?
If so, I have had the same situation. Unfortunately, the only solution at the moment that I know of is to turn off the vibrate, or don't use Bluetooth.
I submitted this to HTC a while back after experiencing it on my 8125, and an 8125 I had to replace it.
EDIT: I've only tested it with two 8125's, and a Samsung WEP150 and Motorola H810 (I think) headsets..
Also, as an experiment, try calling yourself from another phone, and answer with the headset. What you'll likely notice is that the static goes away as soon as the vibrating stops.
sk0t. Thanks for the reply and info. It sucks that we have to disable vibrate. I'll give it a shot and see if I don't blow out my friends' eardrums.
*UPDATE*
That did the trick. Thanks.

Suspected it might. It certainly does suck that we have to disable vibrate when using a BT headset. Drives me nuts actually.
When I went through and discovered this (haven't seen reference to the issue anywhere in my searches), I had tested with something like 3 different headsets and two 8125's.. Was able to duplicate it every time once I figured out what the cause was.. Very very strange..
I just hope that HTC can do something with this issue on these phones..
Wish I had found this thread a couple of weeks ago. I went through 3 Plantronics 510 headsets and two Cingular 8125 before making the discovery that the problem was tied to the vibrate ringer setting.
One thing I've done--since I'd still like the vibrate feature--is you can set the ringer to "vibrate then ring". I just have to make sure I don't pick up while the handset is vibrating--which isn't too hard since that usually is just the first caller's ring.
Another think I found when troubleshooting: if I put my handset in another room and pick up incoming calls everything is fine. Seems like the vibration needs to be in proximity to the headset for this problem to occur.
hmm i just got my bt headset and was told of the static...
thanks for the info guys will deff turn of the vibration to see if that prevents the static when answering a call
My MyTouch 1.2 is acting really frustratingly stupid. The speaker and mic aren't working right, and the closest solution (and explanation) I could find for this was a post I found on a T-Mobile forum:
A few weeks back I tried to make a call on my phone and I wanted to use the speaker, when I brought up the menu to select "speaker", I noticed that the option was greyed out and so I couldn't enable it. After that I looked at the screen and it said it was dialing, but I heard no sound coming out. Next I clicked the volume control all the way down to mute and then all the way to max volume, still no sound. After ending the call I double-checked to make sure I wasn't connected to any bluetooth device, bluetooth was disabled. So then I tried to change the ringer volume and the speaker emitted its beeps letting me know how loud the ring volume was. That told me the speakers worked as well as the hardware responsible for generating sound. My next idea was to see if the media player had sound, so I played an mp3 from my sd card, no sound, went to youtube and played a few different videos, no sound. Called my friend, who was standing next to me, and when he answered he said he couldn't hear me speaking, I couldn't hear him either.
Something was seriously wrong with my phone so I bit the bullet and reset it to factory settings, the problem persisted. I took the phone to a TMobile store and they got me a replacement phone. The phone was working for 3 days and then the same problem occured. I got another phone (my 3rd phone) and this morning it has stopped working in the exact same way. I don't do any hacks or developer apps. There is no pattern to this except that it always seems like I'm at work when it happens.
UPDATE WITH SOLUTION: After thinking about this issue it occurred to me that the phone was behaving as if it had a bluetooth device connected to it. As an experiment, I went to my car which is paired with my phone and selected the audio source as my phone. At first it couldn't connect to my phone. So I looked at my phone's bluetooth setting and the status for my car's connection was "paired and not connected". I selected the connection on phone and retried with my car and bam, audio now works. I disconnected the phone from the bluetooth and sound was restored! So mytouch 3g has a bug in their bluetooth services. TMobile/HTC, hit me up if you are looking for a top-notch developer to fix your defects.

Unfortunately, this solution didn't work for me, and I've tried pairing it with every device I could possibly pair it with. No dice. Anyone have a fix for this?
I own LG Tone headset and a while back decided to upgrade to Tone+ because of "advanced multipoint" Bluetooth feature. The device has absolutely horrendous bug, which renders the multipoint feature completely unusable. Once you have 2 devices connected and one of them happens to be cell phone - you cannot take your conversation elsewhere because as soon as you move out of range of the other connected device the headset keeps repeating "out of range...trying to connect" literally every 10 seconds, and while its doing that it mutes the phone line, so 50% of the phone conversation is missed on both ends of the call.
I sit in a crowded office and I have my phone and either tablet or laptop connected to the headset. Once I receive a call - I have to step outside to take it. As soon as I do that the "out of range...trying to connect" nightmare begins. I called LG support and all they could offer is an apology and a vague promise to submit customer complaint, which may or may not be taken into account for the future headsets. LG confirmed there is no way to disable that ridiculous notification and muting the phone line and there will be no firmware update to address that. After several days of trying to live with this horrible bug and trying to make it work I gave up and got RMA from amazon and sent the headset back
My questions is: can anyone, who actually owns the new LG Tone Ultra HBS-800 please check if this new model has the same issue? Looking for answer from an actual owner or LG employee - someone, who actually knows. LG support has not been able to answer this question for 2 weeks now - ticket still open and pending.
I'm not interested in speculations or suggestions for another headset.
Thanks in advance.
Since no one replied, including LG support, I went ahead, bought the headset and tested it myself. Turns out, despite me spending many hours on the phone and email with LG support 6 months ago when I tested HBS-730, reporting this issue, having it escalated and doing everything I can to make sure it gets fixed in the next headset in the series (which is this one, HBS-800) those LG morons failed to do anything about it and the exact same issue as described above is present in the new Tone Ultra headset - BUYERS BEWARE!!!
I've already returned mine for full refund.
For those of you, who like this form factor for a BT headset as much as I do, and are looking for an alternative to LG Tone series, which doesn't have the nasty defect described above - check out HV-800 headset. It looks identical to LG Tone series headsets, and it works much better than HBS-700, HBS-730 and HBS-800 combined and it costs literally 5x less than HBS-800. I've bought and tried all 4 models, so I can compare.
As you know, there are 2 Bluetooth profiles these headsets must support, in order to be used in stereo mode for phone and music:
1. Phone Audio
2. Media Audio
HV-800 supports multiple phone audio profiles, so you will be able to pair and connect it to 2 phones simultaneously. It supports only 1 media audio profile at a time, so you will be able to connect it only to 1 device, which plays music at a time. That is still way better than all 3 LG Tone headsets, because HBS-700 doesnt support multipoint connections at all, and HBS-730, HBS-800 have this nasty multipoint defect. Also, switching media audio connections with this headset is a breeze - it disconnects from one device and connects to another instantly, with no issues. LG Tone on the other hand, has a major firmware issue reconnecting to different media devices - it hangs, freezes, refuses to disconnect from one and reconnect to another. Even turning it off doesnt help - it seems to let the death grip of the previous media device connection go whenever it chooses, and sometimes you have to wait like half an hour before it does that and lets you connect the headset to another device via media audio profile.
In conclusion: after spending considerable time comparing the capabilities of these headsets to use & switch multiple Bluetooth connections I can say that between 4 of these headsets the HV-800 is by far and away the best headset in this regard, and definitively my choice, until same form factor headset with proper media audio multipoint connection support comes along.
The next one I'll be trying is Sony SBH80. It comes out in March

My experience is a little different but just as annoying as the one you have described. I've purchased two LG Tone HBS-750 headsets from BestBuy over the past month. What I've noticed is that mine will randomly start muting itself during a conversation. The first time it happened I called LG and was told that the headset was defective and that it wasn't an enabled feature for the device to automatically mute itself. I only connect my Note 3 cell phone to it, no other devices. When it does this I have to hit the "headset" button under the phone function and press it again to reconnect the headset - but it still does it again about 3-5 minutes later.
I took it back to BestBuy and purchased the same exact headset in a totally different city so that I wouldn't get the same defective device. After using it for less than 5 days, it's doing the same thing again. Each time the battery is at different levels and I have stock everything on my phone. I'm not sure of the issue but I'll give the headset you suggested above a try.

HV800 is a very nice headset. As I mentioned in the last post I'm currently using Sony SBH80. It has better sound quality and fully supports 2 simultaneous BT connections. Both, media and audio profiles. It's also smaller and lighter than LG headsets. The only drawback is that it doesnt have a place to rest ear buds, and they just hang alongside your body, if you dont leave them in your ears.

It has something to do with wifi. If you turn your wifi off during the call you wont have the problem. I set up a Tasker profile to turn off wifi when my phone state was in call. That has solved the problem, well, Band-Aid anyway.
Possibly fixed?
I just bought an lg tone+. It has that annoying "out of range" bug as well, however - turning it off and then back on stopped it. A hasty patch ? Must be... But i have also read other reviews where people seemed to have gotten a set from a"bad batch", since the rest of em work great. I've also seen this phenomenon with Keurig reviews, and with other "high quality" products. I believe that, unfortunately, these days companies skimp on quality control.. In the past, buying the more expensive names meant expectations of quality, durability, non-buggy firmwear (or at least a fix), customer service people w/ actual training,, etc., but not anymore.....
LG HBS-750
Bought LG HBS-750 from sprint about 30 days ago.. Same issue. The volume just mutes randomly. If you walk too far away the headset disconnects and wont reconnect always.. Not to mention the headset will just continue to vibrate till you are back in range. Very disappointed mostly about the headset just muting all by its self. 07/12/14 1:32pm CST
I have the 800 and most of the time it auto reconnects to both my phone and tablet once i get back in range but for the occasion that it does not reconnect I just power the headset off and on. 2 quick flicks of the power button and you are back in business with a headset that has GREAT sound and long lasting battery and is very comfortable.

There is no "hasty patch" or "bad batch". When you turn off the device and turn it back on it disconnects both connected bluetooth devices. Once you turn it back on - they are not supposed to be automatically reconnected, therefore you dont get that "out of range, trying to connect..." notification. Device has to be not only paired, but actually connected, in order for the headset to detect it being out of range and provide these "out of range" notifications.
What you're describing is not any kind of fix or workaround - you're simply disconnecting the headset from all your BT devices and that of course, naturally terminates this out of range notification. If you reconnect both devices again, and step out of range of one of them you will see this nasty bug again every time.

You seem to have completely misunderstood the issue at hand. My question in the OP, and the bug, discussed in this thread have nothing to do with how well or how bad HBS-800 headset reconnects to your BT devices, once you return back into the BT range.
This particular defect has been formally acknowledged to me by LG Support in writing and I have also received their apology for not fixing it in HBS-800, because I reported it to LG when HBS-730 was released, which was almost a year before HBS-800 and they promised me to take care of in the next headset in the series and failed.
If you think this headset is great - I strongly disagree with you based on first hand experience, but you're entitled to an opinion. However, I do ask that if you wish to mislead people and praise the headset - go ahead and create a separate "Review" thread for it. The purpose of this thread is to warn people of the horrible bug in HBS-800 headset and it's predecessor HBS-730, and discuss adequate alternatives, because people have the right to know and make an informed choice before making a purchase.
same problem on hbs-800
I own the lg hbs-800. I was actually searching for an answer to the same problem when I found your post. I have a samsung note 4 and samsung gear s. When I walk out of range of my phone I immediately get the out of range message and vibration. Even when I answer a call on my gear s it is interupted by the notification and my call is muted during that time.

Hi,
I realize this will sound like a strange issue, but I can reproduce it so it certainly exists.
I have an LG G3 running Android 4.4.2 on Verizon. I just bought it back in Jan '15, and the phone has been working great with no issues. I use my car's built in bluetooth connectivity to place and receive calls while driving and have had no issues doing so.
A few days ago (week of 3/9/15), I acquired a used LG G watch from a friend at work. It's in good shape; he only had it a few months, and it's working well. It connects to my phone, and I can use it to txt, place calls, etc. It's running software version 5.0.2.
I am experiencing an issue for which I cannot find the root cause. My issue is that, when I'm in my car, and both the car and the watch are connected to the phone via blue tooth, and I place or receive a call, folks on the other end cannot hear me speak. I tried it with my wife's cell phone, and can reproduce it every call. My voice is barely audible, yet bluetooth is connected to the car and I can hear the other person's voice just fine over my car speakers. As this is happening, if I pick up my phone and switch the call to the handset from bluetooth, the problem goes away and I can take the call on the handset. But as soon as I put it back to bluetooth, the problem returns. Once this happens, if I hang up and try to call the person back using either bluetooth OR the handset, the voice problem returns and I cannot be heard speaking. I tried putting my mouth up to the watch and the phone thinking maybe it was trying to use another microphone, but I still sounded muffled and far away while I was testing this with my wife's phone.
I have checked all my settings in Android Wear, my phone settings for volume as well as call settings...I cannot find anything obvious. I've googled the issue, but there is little to no information regarding this problem.
Can anyone suggest something to help fix this? I really like the G watch, and I would like to get it to work so I can enjoy it. You would think that the G3 and G watch would play nice since they are both LG!
Thanks for any help,
Nick
Having the same issue....sort of...
First, allow me to apologize for any improper formatting or if I've tendered my reply in the wrong way.
I've literally never replied on a message board in my life. Ugh, I know. How, right? Moving on...
I have an issue very similar to the one you're having, only in place of the car, put a Plantronics WalMart headset and change the G3 for it's predecessor. I notice that people call me when my watch is connected to my phone. When I answer, they claim to not be able to hear or understand what I am saying. The problem persists even if I disconnect my headset and use the G2 in either handset or speakerphone mode. The only fix I've found is to restart the phone and return the call. Even then, if the watch is still connected, only the first call can be completed with no "interference".
I've attempted to update the software and firmware to my G2, with no success. I have no idea why this issue occurs.
Also, is probably noteworthy that regardless of whatever Bluetooth device I am connected, very very often during a call, my caller's voice will shift into "speakerphone" mode without being instructed to do so. I have to open the call screen, turn off the BT, then select it again to turn it back on. The call returns to the headset, but doesn't stay there in most cases. Sometimes I have to do this 5 - 7 times a call. Other times, it remains connected as it's supposed to. Again, I can find no reason why this happens, but it's been an issue for MONTHS with my G2. And it doesn't matter what headset I am using, it just "drops" the sound to my speaker phone, but still says that it remains connected to the headset.
It's a Sprint LG G2, if that matters at all.

Can anyone suggest something to help fix this? I really like the G watch, and I would like to get it to work so I can enjoy it. You would think that the G3 and G watch would play nice since they are both LG!
Thanks for any help,
Nick

Have you tried going into android settings for voice input and allowing recording using Bluetooth mic?
I had an issue with my LG G2 where people can't hear me when I call them. If I turn on speakerphone, they can usually hear me then. So I exchanged my G2 for a new one. Same problem now. About every 5th call or so, people can't hear me. It's driving me nuts. Could there be some software that's messing things up? I have google voice installed, and while most of the calls in question are GV calls, not all of them are. Just called someone now from my regular number and they couldn't hear me. Anyone have any tips or even advice on how I can tackle this?
Running latest Android updates and apps always, no root. Verizon. Calls placed from random locations (and even different states).
I am having the same issue. There are a couple of things I have tried. The most promising is to turn off Google hotword detection on every screen.
You can also try turning off the Privacy Keeper and Voice Enhancement in Call Settings. If any of this works for you, or you find and answer, let me know!

Having the same issue with 2 lines, same LG G2 phone. Called Verizon, was told it sounds like a hardware issue. I'm thinking it's something to do with their Android update personally.
Had exact same issue and took phone to repair center. They said it was mic issue. They ended up replacing the entire phone but guess what - issue is still there on new phone.

I've seen this issue on many forums and with the number of people that are having the problem, it has to be either LG flaw or a software issue. I'm trying turning off the ok google, noise cancellation, and privacy keeper. But I'm pretty sure I tried those on the last phone with the same results.
Just to make sure we're all having the same issue, you can be heard once you turn on speakerphone, correct?
Update on this: Still having the issue after disabling ok google hotword..

I read your reply some time ago but didn't answer because I had no answer.
Today the bug appeared again so I turned on speakerphone like you said. Guess what, they could then hear me!
Thanks for the tip @eepyikes, its a good workaround but lets hope for a proper solution.

Any of you with this issue also have a Pebble or other type of smart watch?
I've noticed the same problem but the issue goes away when my Pebble isn't actively paired.

-Correction- I hadn't had this issue since I disconnected my Pebble about 10 days back. It came back today when I made a call. What I noticed today is.......
When I switched to the speakerphone the person still couldn't hear me very well. Switching back to mic the problem is still there. But when I turned on my BT headset the audio was fine. Switching back to the phone mic from the BT the problem cleared up.
Did a test call initiating the call on the BT headset and had the same audio problem through BT. Switching back to the phone mic or speakerphone cleared it up.
Initiated another call on the speakerphone. Same audio problem. Switched to BT and it cleared up again. Switched back to the phone mic and it was still fine.
Seems the issue is there when initiating the call on BT, mic or speakerphone but switching from BT to the phone or phone to BT clears it up. I'm on a D801 (TMO) and first noticed this about three weeks back.
Rebooting the phone seemed to clear it up at least for the short term. I just noticed that the Google search app updated on the phone about two/three weeks back. Seems about the same time I started noticing the issue.
I had a backup of Google search 4.1.29 from back in January. Just restored that version and blocked it from updating to see if the issue comes back again.
Interesting to see this is also on the d802. Mine is the VS980.
The 13qcelp trick does not fix it. So tired of this!
Any other tricks out there??
Happened twice in one day. New record for me. Sick of people saying "hello?? Anyone there??? Hello??" until i turn speakers on. With speakers sound is horrible so really annoying! Wonder if issue will happen with AOSP/CM roms.....
