Latest Software Update Spoilt Camera Refresh Rate - Xperia Z2 General

Just updated to UK new firmware on my unlocked z2 and now my viewfinder lags like crazy!!! It was fine before. Anyone else have this issue. Not good.

Here is the details.

Everyone has this, apparently in a bid to stop people whinging about camera (over)heating Sony capped the frame rate on camera previews, this has no effect on quality of video recorded.

It actually improved image quality markedly. Particularly at full res.
Low frame rate viewfinder is something I'd happily live with if it means less over heating and better quality photos as a result

So they solved one issue by creating another? Well if that's what sony thinks what resolving an issue is then it's not great tbh. Hey ho let's just see if they can improve it as liked the high refresh rate. Not entirely convinced that was causing overheating though.

TBH I never experienced it, I thought 4k video was a gimmick hell I don't have the hardware to display it.

Its just the viewfinder, not the actual recording. i dont see why this is a problem.
And its honneslty better at 15fps, i am able to use my phone camera for much longer so i prefer this over it being smoother and heating more.
What do you prefer, looks or functionality.

I prefer they resolve the issue correctly. But this is guess is second best.

-_-
15fps refreshrate is there to prevent overheating
its a positive over a negative this is not an issue that I see

Viewfinder's purpose is to find the view. That's the reason why it exists. As long as you can find the view (doesn't matter at which FPS) you're all good.
Though, I'd personally want Sony to keep this high FPS from 4.4.2 in 4.4.4, because no other phone camera had this much FPS. None.

My phone can capture more than 15 mins of 4K recording. Don't know how far it can go, stopped at 15 mins which produced around 4GB file. The temperature was around 65 C, though.

How are they going to resolve this? You know being a waterproof phone, what's outside remains outside and what's inside remains inside. Unless you're willing to sacrifice your waterproof capabilities for heat to be dissipated out??

Underclocking maybe. Higher temperature threshold? Regardless of what alternatives they could have tried they decided on this which is something we are stuck with. Hardware alterations are not an option unless Sony stop putting the chip next to the camera module

That's why you have tap to focus so you can tell the thing what you want it to focus on. It's really simple, you want it to focus on something in the video just tap on it on the screen and woah! It will remain focused on it.

Resolution 1920x1080, anti-shake on, video quality superfine, the rest were set to default.
I can record and play back in 1080 on the phone, but I cant seem to play back the files on the computer without the image breaking up into a blocky mess. I'm using VLC to play them. Has anybody else come across this issue? 720 is fine. I thought it was the sd card, but even recording to the phone gets the same issue. Weird.
Well,
I see most annoying problem from SGS2 known as Video Stutter or frame drop issue has migrated to SGS3: http://mobile-review.com/review/imag...hoto/video.mp4
"Frame drop issue" printscreen from mediafire (min:13, max:39), but should be within range of 26-35.
PS: Exchanged mine SGS2 6 times, until got proper one camera module.
Galaxy Nexus records way better 1080p.

[Q] Camera Issues: Skewed Images

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that the photos taken with the default camera app is a little skewed at the edges?
The camera is great for macro shots but when shots are taken from a distance, I can't help but notice that the subjects on the edges get distorted or stretched.
It would be nice if we shared our experiences on this. After all, this phone was touted to have the best camera at the time of the launch.
Thanks.

I feel this may be a hardware issue and not just a software glitch as I have noticed the same distortions with the in-built Charm Cam App. It could possibly have something to do with the lens alignments or maybe it's just an isolated case with my phone. But I have no means to verify my allegations as I don't have another phone to carry out comparisons.
In any case, I request other owners to please share your findings with regards to the image quality on this camera.

The primary reason i found for noise is that iso gets too high in auto mode.it might just be software issue. But we dont have other phone with same hardware(OV 16825)
Since kernal sources are avilable i hope they provide some light
Also as the camera is capable of [email protected] 60fps i would like if some dev removes this constrain of [email protected]

I took a 1080p video and found no distortion along edges this in theory proves it is not due to hardware problem i.e. lens alingment

Camera Tests Z3 - Post your pics here -

in theory Sony Xperia Z3 has the same sensor of Z1, Z1 Compact and Z2, but with the new lens, camera firmware and a revised hardware support Sony promises great improvements
Actually new lens are 25mm for a good wide-angle, firmware seems to work better than previous Z2 and hardware should work better in low light conditions. Now you can raise the ISO to 12800, too. Autofocus is faster
Then we could use this thread to collect our shots taken from Sony Z3..It would be great to compare photos with the other devices
I will do once I get my Z3
Let's go!

Wait and do side by side. Then zoom and crop. The results will be very revealing to you. I had the M8 for 5 months. Great phone....great build quality....great UI....very fast and the boom sound is amazing. But the camera was very disappointing. Sorry but 4MP is still 4MP even if they are Ultra pixels.
I learned since getting this phone just how irrelevant mega pixels are .Is this better then my htc one? I imagine so,I cant do a comparison as i no longer have my htc but iam pretty sure this camera is better but is it ALOT better? I would have to say no.I expected the camera to be alot better then it is personally but i saw mentioned that it may improve after a firmware update so fingers crossed because if this is supposed to be one of the best camera's on a smartphone then the competition must be lacking

From the specs atleast the sensor size on z3 is bigger than htc one m8. So it should make a difference in low light photography

most of these are average at best.
There's no way the M8 camera is better. It is one of the lowest rated cameras of any current smartphone. Many professional tests have been conducted, check multiple websites if you don't believe me.
It's possible you either have a faulty unit, unlocked your bootloader which broke the sensor software (read about it in another thread) or Sony need to release a firmware update to fix this.

Iam guessing a firmware update will improve things because i too am underwhelmed with the camera on this phone and i surprisingly thought the m8 pictures looked better in this thread which is kinda embarrassing for sony if you ask me! I havent played around much with the camera if iam honest but with the few pics i have taken i have found sharpness to be lacking ALOT and the flash is way too bright and ruining night time pics

Z5 Compact a joke?

Why is this Z5 compact such a joke? It almost has the same specs as the z3 compact and the new camera aint all that good. The new sensor might be good but what if you cant make the software work? Its like putting a retard in a F1 car. Look at these photosamples http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ on the right you find a note 5, which has a sony sensor at 16MP and on the left you find the Z5 premium with a 21MP sensor but it cant shoot any good pictures in the dark..... So again sony ****ed it up.

I don't think he's specifically talking about the specs of the phone, just that the camera still sucks.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
But I can't think of any <5" phone that can compete camera-wise (except the iPhone 6S)?
And I think we should wait for more photo samples to appear before we take final judgement. Most of these early photo samples are using non-final software.
Here's a review that says the camera is the best in class:
http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...ria-z5-compact-review-best-smaller-smartphone
Hate to point out the obvious but every new phone that comes is an incremental improvement over its predecessor. Look at the iPhone, people(fools) queue for hours to be first to get the new model with 10% faster cpu, 10% bigger screen, 10% more pixels on the cmos sensor, and 20% less battery power. How i chuckle when i see iphone 6 owners, like junkies desperately looking for their next power fix! But, i digress.
A jack of all trades is a master of none. It is after all, a phone. It is not meant to be a world class, low light camera. My first camera phone was 0.3megapix. I thought it was pretty damn cool to have a camera at all. People just take it for granted nowadays. You want good low light photos, buy a camera. You know, them things you cant make phone calls on!

I to had Z3C, were active in XDA section for it, and for one i KNOW Z5C has a better camera to start with. Only thing it doesn't have is battery life on KK with Z3C which owned every cell phone with flagship specs.
On Z3C my focus struggled at times, colors were oversaturated and in many occasions picture looked washed out. That is not the case on Z5C BUT there is a lot room for improvement and i think Sony will do it in time. Great potential with the IMX230 hardware.
wouldn't it be a good idea to make a static topic for flaming about a certain device, so we can focus on the good things instead of getting distracted by this kind of topics?

Yes the camera on the z3c was worse then on the z5c but when you look at the pictures taken with a z5c you will see blurry edges and its almost impossible to make awesome macro shots. So even tho this camera is a bit better it still cant mess with other high ends like note 5 or LG g4 that also uses a sony sensor so thats why i think this z5c is kinda a joke. But if sony doesn't fix all these problems like laggy OS then this will be my last sony phone.
If you really think the performance is as bad as you say you should properly try another vendor! In my experience, they are at least as bad and some a lot worse..
Honestly, I would prefer a smaller Nexus, and might even go for the 5X despite the size.. Nexus device are best in performance (os lag eg), the rest are catching up lately!
You do know that the standard resolution in the app is set to 8M, right?.. I did read its better at that res, but you should maybe try and change it, it goes up to 23 you know..

You own a Z5C despite proclaiming it to be 'a joke' before it even went on sale? Huh... interesting.

Yup, because before it was out i judged on sample photo's and now that i own 1 i can confirm it that everything is knew before buying 1 was true. Even in clear daylight most photo's always seem to have a bit of blur on the right side. And batterylife is a bit wonky.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem (except on the left edge instead), returned for a replacement and the second one is much better. It only blurs out the very far corners and only rarely, most pictures are fine. Have you still time for an exchange?
My battery life experience is pretty decent.

No but i can always send it back to the repair center because they sold me a faulty unit but i need to make more photo's to give it a final judgement tho. Which color phone you got and what rev number is on the box if i may ask?

Yellow. 1298-3810 Rev 1. My first one which had the blur was also the exact same though so I'm not sure whether that number means all that much.

There are artifacts
Anyway the only problem is on the software side... And Sony is not doing anything to solve it.
No hdr in auto mode? Poor post processing??
Why Sony why
Besides artifacts, great score.

Yes HDR fires up in Auto, but it's an AUTO mode so it fires up automatically lol

But even in mid-range devices we have an option to keep it always on or in auto mode...

The hdr there is in optimal situations . But try xperia xz...and tell me where are those artifacts in photos...there are more on x performance (but it have a greater score there). Stabilizzation same of x-performance? What the... the 5 axis stabilizzation do a greater stabilizzation than x-performance eis. Rgb sensor is usless in xz? More real colours on xz than x-performance. Focus the same of x-performance??? The laser autofocus is usless? NO. It's working better than hybrid focus of x,x-performance and z5 series, who have serious problems with macro photos (you must use zoom to do macro shoots). But x performance have 88 and xz 87.... This is crazy. I try both ...and xz have a very superior camera (expecially in auto) . The 3 sensors works great and xz do a really better night shoots than x-performance. On -performance you must be stable to do shoots or the photo became moved and noisy. On xz point and shoot! So...this camera review is absurd....

Well before it was 90, idk why they changed the score, weird, well xz has the best natural camera software for me , better than Samsung (way to much oversaturated on ambled screen but in real viewing on pc or TV it's not good at all,)

When was it 90%?
What a ****ty camera we have received from Sony. Thank you for the garbage you call superior 23mp camera

I'm curious if the quality improves with respect to post processing artifacts when you use another camera app like opencamera or camera-fv5 or footej-camera ?
And if camera2api is actually available wouldn't the other apps take advantage of that?
I had a z3 before, and i always got better shots on camera-fv5. My xz is arriving this week, looking FWD to see how it compares with my OnePlus3 and Samsung s7edge

When the results are in line with your rhetoric you praise DXOmark. When they are different you are sure they are rigged. Great logic !
Rear camera sucks indeed mostly because of weak dynamic range but front shooter works better. So I guess if you want to have good pics use front camera lol

Silliest post of 2016?
The rear camera is fantastic, just use some knowledge.

Anything posted in 2016 is silly now. That is why I am just trolling here before this year is gone. Also use some knowledge and read what I said that camera sucks in dynamic range and not the quality of pictures

Allright. I just think it essentially doesn't suck in dynamic range anyway...
