Hello, I'm new here and I've had my phone (GT540) for about 9 months now and went from 1.6 to 2.1 via the necessary LG update. I recently rooted my phone to uninstall some annoying system applications. I then thought about upgrading my phone, one friends got a Samsung Galaxy Ace and one has a Samsung Galaxy S II with 2.2 and 2.3, so I was wondering whether to upgrade my phone. The main points I'm thinking of are:
Is it easy to brick your phone ('cos I don't want to)
Is it worth it, 2.3 better than 2.1 or worth sticking with 2.1
I was hoping you guys could help me as you all seem pretty experience. Thanks!

Hello my opinion is if you want performance, stability, and all the options working stay with 2.1 or eather a custom 2.1 modified for better performance , which are quite some out there.
2.3 is faster yes , but still buggy and has cyanogenmod seetings (some like it, others can live without it), 2.2 kind of the same thing but a bit less faster.
Veronica
no skip to 2.3
I've been using cyanogen 7 for a wile now, when I put 2.1 on to test my app it almost made me cry, and I noticed a major speed difference.

I noticed the same thing when i used Mur4ik's CM 7 for GT540 , it was quick , but there are flaws , seriously , who wants flash to run on a small device ? That's gonna chew up batteries quickly .
Simply put , i love the OS , video playback a little flawed though , view 3 or so times of videos and i have to reboot the phone . ( v1.3 )
Thanks for your opinions, I think I'll go to 2.33 but then I heard somewhere you can downgrade it to LG 2.1.

2.3.4 is way better then 2.1 ! I would never be back to 2.1..
BTW: It's not so easy to brick an Android phone I've changed roms many times.
Try upgrading to 2.0 M4, more stable

or joestone 2.3
Thanks, I'm now running 2.3 Joestone!
i love cyanogenmod 7 its great but sometime it reboot so, good things have some bugs also ......i think u should try cm7 its great work of developers.
I'll give Cyano 7 a run, but from what I've seen, my ROM will be Joestone's
I don't like the memory problems in the CM7
I tried every version from 1.6 to 2.3.4, (i actually flash my phone once a week), and it's to early to say, but i think Mur4ik's 2.0 M5 is really far better then any else version.
Its really fast, for now no FCs, no unexpected shut downs, no lags, and battery is on 60%, and it's 2d3h on battery!

CM7 is pretty slick and cool but I still prefer the stock looks over CM7. I really wish someone would put together a MoDaCo custom ROM style 2.2/2.3 ROM for GT540.
MoDaCo custom ROM is a ROM that has no visual modifications from stock but has several performance mods and hacks and an optimized kernel.
I was just wondering why there are no custom froyo roms, even know GB is coming out some time this month or next, but all gb roms that are out are betas.
I would like to see something stable from you awesome devs !
I have been using the Gingerbread ROM by KennethPenn and recently switched to Ninja.. Both have been extremely stable (Kenneth's one is a basically stock build with added speed hacks that he can't test, hence the beta) with minor bugs. I say keep developing for Gingerbread

+1 agreed.
What I've got running now is far smoother than anything Froyo.
ORFR234, deodexed, zipaligned, SD card hack, multi-touch enhancements, OC kernel with voltage profiles, etc, etc.
Haven't played with any ROMs because I honestly don't like themes. It's easy as heck to do as well. Just read all the guides and you can't go wrong
The reason that there aren't any Froyo roms being developed is that the Bootloader isn't unlockable with Froyo on it. You'd need to upgrade to Gingerbread to unlock the bootloader, so there's no real sense in trying to make a new rom for an outdated version of the operating system.
and If you go back to froyo with unlocked bootloader,You have a hard brick.
I am using cherryblur 1.3 with stock theme,so far I find it far better than froyo stock.
Its heating problem is solved and battery is pretty good for me.
only thing I am looking for is processor undervolting and profiles which will work with overclocked kernel .

Huh? Im unlocked with froyo. And I think froyo isn't going to be developed.for. because that would be like developing for windows 98 at this point.

Not true. Going back to froyo using sbf files *may* hard brick your phone. You can flash to froyo with fruit cake files with very little risk.

Hi, Okay so I have running Free X10 2.2.1 with baseband 2.1.54
I want to try a 2.3 ROM and I've been looking at the Free X10 2.3
however the requirements here:
Requirements:
1. Rooted 2.3.3 ROM
2. working xRecovery 0.3
3. Baseband 71+
I need to have a rooted 2.3.3 ROM before I installed the Free X10 2.3.3?
How do I upgrade my baseband?
Is there any efficient way to back up and restore your apps between flashing?
Yes. Just use flashtool to upgrade. Then root then install recovery. It if your on 2.2 just connect it to pc companion. And also u already posted a thread like this. Dont double post

Okay sorry. Im just new at flashing and using custom ROMs. I just have a few questions to get started. My phone is rooted and I have already flashed from eclair to froyo free x10. I would have posted in that same previous post but it said thread closed.

I would not suggest to move to FreeX10 2.3.3 as it's development was stopped, it will not be improved and has many bugs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208145&page=17
But if you still want to try it, just make sure you flash the baseband after you installed the ROM with xRecovery.
try the new cm7 instead...

What are you talking about? many bugs? I was using it as my daily rom (Until Z's CM7 came out) & I didn't find one single bug, It's stable & fast
Can someone post a link for Z's CM7? I wanna try it out.
also, how I do upgrade my baseband before doing this upgrade. I'm currently on Z's Free X10 2.2.1
Also, i notice that my autocorrect and auto punctuate (double space to make a . )
The settings are turned on but are not taking effect

You dont need rooted 2.3 rom all you need to do is flash the rom take out battery open flashtool and flash baseband 71 or vice versa

I bet he thinks development stopped = bugs hell.
And the new CM7 is a lot more buggy than you think. Wifi not working, battery drainage(just me?), etc.
Just get FreeX10 2.3. You don't need to be on 2.3. Just flash the ROM via xRec, pull out the battery, put it in back and flash the new baseband and kernel.
But you said you like living at the bleeding edge, so you can give the new CM7ZMOD a try.

Okay awesome. I'll just give Free X10 2.3 a try (I'm really liking Free X10 2.2 so far).
Sorry to be such a noob, but can someone give me a quick run down on how to get/use Flashtool? Thanks.

Well actually I think CM7 is not that buggy either, Wifi will be fixed by Z soon I bet, hell it's already fixed by a member by replacing a file from another rom, as for your battery drainage, it's ok here, not as good as FreeX10 but ok, maybe do some battery calibration & stuff? also gps is on by default so turn it off
But overall I prefer FreeX10 2.3 too, CM7 is faster (it's the fastest gb I've tried) even the first time you boot up the rom, the speed & the way bootanimation loads is just amazing, But Freex10 is rock solid stable with great battery life & very fast too
His CM7 ZMOD is probably better than FreeX10 2.3.3.
As for WiFi in CM7, here's the fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16602945&postcount=265
Try wolfs ROM, alot better then cm7zmod

I have not yet had a single stability issue with NexusHD2-ICS 2.4 since the day it was released. The only gripe I have is Netflix doesn't work, and some flash videos won't cooperate due to the hacked HWA.

This is Netflix fault. Not the rom. Once it's fixed I'm going to jump on board.

Hi GuysI was Wondering about what we should care about most Speed Or New Roms
I know it's hard to build a new rom and make it perfect "size speed errors etc"
I tried many roms on my hd2 and some of them were good fast and suitable for daily use but this was Froyo 2.2 or gingerbread
Now When I see new roms like ics 4.0 or Jb 4.2 I want to have it but I find more errors and it's slooooooooow
So My Question to youI want to have something really fast like froyo and new as well
i am asking for your recommendations guys as i am going to collage and my hd2 should be suitable for daily use so guide me
Hello there
afaik, if you want to handle both speed, stability and newest features you should aim between 4.0.4 - 4.1.2 roms.
4.2.1/2 might at time to time crash, but its been while since they are out so most popular 4.2 roms are for daily use.
4.3 are not yet stable so i wouldnt go for them.
I use PACman 1.2a JellyBean 4.1.2 (i believe its in my sig)
I have EU ver of HD2, and have some ext partitioning problems, so i cannot use roms that requires DataOnExt <4.2/4.3>
PAC thankfully lets me install it on Nand and it runs as smooth as baby's ass, + you can switch between Tablet/Phablet/Normal dpi, which is cool for me.
I miss some 4.2.2 features but for +1month of usage i can say i didnt see any crash.
I hope that helps you a bit, cheers!

i agree with you it's good rom :good: but i wanna ask you one thing the nand partition is around 180 mb so what is there for me for apps is around 230 mb and i think it's not a big space for installing apps
so how could you install apps in the rom without getting low internal memory issues
