decided to upgrade from nexus 4.. plz help - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys
i wanned to buy new phone.. and i'm thoroughly confused :/
my expections:
first of all... speed speed speed..!
i dont mean benchmark numbers or either gaming performance (i don't play games) i just want fast and super responding interface
2.battery 3. developmental support.. 4.screen 5.camera
i decided to buy s5.. but when i played around with it, totally disappointed :/ really slow interface.. i don't know how is it in non stock based custom roms..
then i cheked m8 .. it was lovely fast.. but i think camera is aweful stupid htc just put simple 13mp camera
g3 also checked it's videos.. shamefully it's slow just like s5 just have quicker animation speed.. but i want touch responsive phone.. not fast animated..
i heard it'll get better after updates.. i dunno how much..
plz help...

The Moto X 2014 is a good suggestion for sheer speed. The pairing of the Snapdragon 801 with the natural language processor and contextual computing chip make for an extremely responsive device. Heck, even the 2013 Moto X is very snappy with this configuration, despite only having the dual core 1.7GHz S4 Pro.
Of course, there's always the Nexus 6, but it's a big phone, and you might have to wait a while before you can get ahold of one.

camera is fine .. at least better than m8.. but battery is awful ..
i just wanna know if s5 have super fast roms.. i'll go for s5 for sure..
and god i hate google 'cause of n6 it's too big and expensive..

Some how I don't like Samsung.. My First android phone was Samsung GT-I9003 and didn't have good experience with it.. I still feel they play with market.. All their flag ship phones gets launched in the price range 40k to 50k (Indian rupee) and with in months the price will be in low 30k (Indian rupee) and still they manufacture those products and sell them imagine how much they end in profits..
Another best example is s3 which launched along with Nexus 4 (or in the same time frame) and they ended with official jelly bean.. And I heard the reason for no official Kitkat is due to lack of ram for their touchwiz (as we know Kitkat was made to run on low end devices with less ram) so I still don't get their point..
Also I heard s5 is full of bloat ware off course few might be usefull.. But the only advantage of smasung is their camera..

* Specs of N4 are still very good. New phone will probably cost a lot of money without adding that much of performance, even if you sell your N4.
* Still a well designed phone - the way it looks, the way it holds in a hand, the way you interact with it. Design is not all about looks and gold-plating.
* Still supported by Google and by a huge community of XDA ?
But otherwise you might look for N6 - it has a better camera, bigger screen with better color balance, better hardware, more power-saving features, bigger battery. And it costs two times Nexus 4.

OT i know, but ive got an s3 and im seriously thinking of getting a N4 cheap from ebay (cant afford N5)
im fed up with S3 and sammy s*** and cm11/aosp things not working properly because of closed source stuff.
Is the camera and battery of th N4 that bad? And does it lag at all?
cheers

Camera is not good. Battery is enough for 3 hours of screen on time, maybe even more. Easily lasts throughout the day.

Why not upgrade in the Neus Line?
I am still wondering why don't you upgrade in the Nexus line itself. I mean options like N5 and N6 are pretty great if you think about.

I have a HTC onex convince me to switch to a GS3

On launch day i when out and brought my self a One X and for the first few weeks i loved it but as time went on there became more and more that anoyed me about the phone for example the lack of S-OFF, terable battery life and the fact that is completly refuses to get along well with my network "three uk".
Should i switch from the ONE X to a GS3?
and if so what are the reasons behind it?
will the GS3 help to amend any of the issues i have with the ONE X?
Thanks guys
Plz don't be convinced to get a s3! U should be loving the no sd card and non removable battery

Switch to note2 not s3

what worrys me about switching to the note 2 is that it has a serious lack of development
i am a huge AOSP fan but i know that if they get aosp up and running on the note that all of the S-pen feautes wont work and and so that will deem that part of the phone useless :/
i have also read that becasue of a recent fall out between cyanogen mod and samsung that cyanogen wont be suporting the note 2 as a official device which will make AOSP development slow :/

i have tryed that but all google is going to tell me is how these two phones compare out of the box when they were first released. since then there has been a huge amount of development on these phones thus rendering any review or comparison usless for what i am looking for :/
Explain to me, as if I am very dumb...what's the point on that switch? Both mobile phones are pretty much the same, one is better here the other there. But it's just my opinion. As far as ROM goes, I would be running CM anyway or AOKP or PA and the sorts...so on that point they would be exactly the same.
What I'm saying here is that people worry too much for things like 30mins extra battery and the sorts. My device has one of the worst batteries ever (Galaxy Ace) and still does it's job. With that said...I'd kill for a HTC OneX and I'd buy the HTC over the S3 any day. And let's get real here...There's this thing called Nexus 4 coming soon...I'd buy that XD
the point is the ONE x has so many problems on 3uk its not even funny :/
if im conected to H and for example i go into a building with a lead roof and i loose signal then when i exit the build the phone wont reconect to the network atall it just refuses and even if it does then it will only let me get a GSM signal and im lucky if i get that. i have to force a conection by searching for the networks and then it will recconect. i am not the only one with thus issue as it is comon with 3uk ONE x users and after half a year of doing this i cant be bothered with it anymore :/
Damsung promised to give drivers for Exynos 4 so there will be huge development from devs on xda starting from next year.

You said you were a AOSP lover? Aren't those issues caused by AOSP rom? In Portugal CM7 and MMS receiving is broken for example I need to reboot phone, turn data off and back on and then send myself a MMS to force the phone to receive the one someone sent me lol
And from what I recall, from 7 years ago, when I lived in the UK the 3 network sucked bad on pretty much every phone but I guess it would be better by now.
(Just noticed, I'm defending you to keep a HTC over a Samsung phone and I have 3 devices all of them Samsung, just check my sig lololol)

+1. A friend of mine has a HOX and every time I see it I'm jealous of how beatuful and well made it looks. It also has the best sceen available on a phone right now (htc butterfly doesnt count as it is Japan exclusive) and sense looks better than TW. My GS3 is faster (both are on custom Roms, stock kernels and both are blazing fast but the GS3 is faster and smoother ), TW has more features than Sense, camera and speakers are better, micro SD and removable battery, much better battery life and the Bootloader is unlocked (maybe the most important part for me). Both phones are excelent and I wouldn't switch from one to the other ( even if I had the HOX ). If you have to leave the HOX for something else I would suggest the Note II for its great features, the Nexus 4 if you want stock Android or wait for the international version of the HTC Butterfly.
Faster Exynos 4 processor, Bigger screen, Believe it or not but the S3 feels lighter... And if your not a flash addict Touchwiz is better than Sense.
Plus Exynos 4 documentation coming soon, even tho the Tegra already had that but development here is about to get a whole lot better.
Expandable memory, removable and bigger battery, bigger screen.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
nope i have had these probems with my network from day one even with sence
I switched from HOX to SGS3 a month ago and I didn't regret even for a second. GS3 is a way better for me.
I have a friend that has an HTC One X and i can't understand the "beautiful" compliments, it is nice looking but nothing really "awesome" about it, the edges are rough, the screen is slightly smaller, (I hate LCD's, love punchy colors of Amoled displays and true blacks), Sense is fine but i (personally) like touchwiz a little better, No SD Card (LOL @ HTC, why.. seriously.. why?) and no removable battery.. (Batteries die, yep they lose their hold after a few months / year, and you can't replace it on a One X, you can't even do a quick swap for a backup battery).
All this got me to the conclusion of getting an S3 instead, now got a Note 2, an S3 and soon a Nexus 10 (tablet).
Nike: Just do it!
READY...?
Canadian Rogers Version i7747m is what I have.
I wanted the HOX bad. Loved the look. LCD whites are WHITE. Form factor and unibody are great especially if you plan to NOT use a case. Yet the S3 won 51% to 49%.
But having owned this i747m for 3 months now, stock rom, rooted, some framework mods for extra features and cosmetics....I am absolutely floored. (minus a few super minor non issues)
- 32gb +32gb = 64gb storage
- removable battery
- light and thin...so getting a case is not a bulk builder. With case it's still lighter than my old trusty HD2
- 2gb ram with up to 50 background apps in memory (Ask Zeppelinrocks Dev about this....it's a NEW record for a stock device) Wicked Multitasking as we say it.
- Fast, great standby drain, no SOD or Hot Reboots etc.
- Touchwiz....MEH...tried it for a week and ditched that ui for Go Launcher EX which has infinitely better and more custom options.
- Replaced some stock apps with IMO...superior apps (Handcent, Kaiten Mail, PowerAmp)
- my Super Amolded screen shows whites as very close to white and looks incredible playing games or watching movies.
- LED notification is fat and not too bright. It's a warm light and multi colored....and WORKS.
- camera and camcorder are great. Just took a video tonight of some backyard ground fireworks and it came out great...sound and all. Camera is very fast, burst shots...powerful flash etc. Some issues with low light conditions.
- LTE...for us here...is smoking fast data speeds even on 1 bar signal.
- usb can also output analogue and digital audio.
- physical home button. I learned that I prefer this especially to turn the screen on. It's most natural.
- development is aggressive...especially European models. I don't care much about this anymore...since for the first time since froyo, I have a near 100% working device without issues. I can't believe it. I am a stickler for details.
If I was living in Europe, I would get the i9305. I would not even think about getting a device with less than 2gb ram. I could write a book on it.
Like DeadSOL says, and Nike....and ..even Ben Stiller....Juz Doooow eet !!!
If you're an AOSP lover you should stick with a nexus 4 but, keep in mind that the on screen buttons will take up some of the screen real estate.
Oh by the way I have both the one X and the s3 and if you do make the switch you'll be dissapointed by its cheap plasticy feel but you'll be amazed by its battery life.

Reason not to sell the S3 for the Nexus 4

Ok seems alot of people in here are planning on selling their GS3 for the Nexus 4, I personally won't be here why.
First up storage 8 or 16GB just isn't enough full stop, I use my S3 for alot of things & i can tell you now 16GB fills up quickly, you have to be very selective on what you use your N4 for.
Camera, I love the camera on the GS3 as it got plenty of feature's, plus recording things in either 720p or 1080p looks good even without modding the camera software, upto now some reviews on the camera on the N4 seem to put it behind the S3 ie slow to focus, and noise from the lens when it focus when recording video, pocket lint seem to have this problem with 2 devices they tested.
Sound Wolfson DAC, the N4 doesn't have one, I love my music and was gutted when the GS2 had crappy audio, compared to the GS1 which was superb, even if the sound is decent again storage on the nexus 4 is a problem.
Removable Battery, I have 2 Samsung Batteries for my phone, now i do alot of walking in some very remote places last thing i need is for my battery on my phone to go dead and stuck without a phone, I take alot of pictures and video with my GS3 when out and about so it eats into the battery alot, plus if i ever have an serious accident while out having that extra spare battery with me could be a lifesaver hence why i always like to carry a spare, might even buy another just to be on the safe side.
Features i'm a fan of touchwiz, it brings to the GS3 alot of useful features ya don't get on stock android like smartstay, camera software ect ect.
Hardware, this to me is what alot of people are planning on selling the GS3, because the N4 has 2GB of ram & the latest quadcore processor at 1.5GHz, I've never yet encountered a problems using my GS3 with 1GB of ram running anything, and by the time it does start running into problems i'll be on either a GS4 or GS5 which in the case of the GS4 will be 2GB anyroads, yeah 2GB of ram on the N4 will come in handy at some point, when the next proper update is released IF you keep you N4 that is, which i know alot on here won't & as soon as the GS4 or whatever else next year is released, the N4's that you sold your GS3 for will be up for sale again.
All in all i still think the GS3 is a better smartphone than the N4 if you look beyond specs alone, and i certainly won't be getting shut of mine for the N4, my next upgrade will be the GS4. :good:

Have to agree......removeable battery (lots of times battery pull was lifesaver for me)+removable storage+touchwiz with its features-still with option to install aosp rom (on n4 you are going to be stuck with aosp or miui-which most wont even try)...that outweights those on-paper-superior stats of n4

Agreed with the storage and battery parts for sure..those are also the reasons i chose the S3 over the N4.
16GB just doesn't cut it in these times when you have music, high quality video etc.
The S3 and other Samsung's also get a lot of flaming over being plastic and all, but tbh i would rather prefer plastic over glass and metal. At least plastic doesn't break like glass or get scratched like metal
Just wondering why does this deserve its own thread?

No, I personally do hope their improve the quality than just deliver plastic. Plastic is very Terrible and felt like not premium. Even though I like s3, but I really do hope they will improve their quality, plastic is very bad taste.

I will keep my S3 and use it as my main phone. I have already pre ordered myself a LG Nexsus 4 just cuz it is cheap. I will use that when i feel like it so all i will do is swap sims for the day or a week lol..
Totally agree.
I myself was a nexus user through and through until i finally jumped ship and went for the GS3 (didnt wait for the N4). I thought about it for a sec (buying the new N4) then these points just came up and i forgot about it:
1) The Nexus line has always been behind the hardware specs when it came to Samsungs' Galaxy line, poor camera on Gnex etc.
2) i wouldn't change the S3 for the N4 simply because of the 8-16GB space and the non-removable battery is a no no for me.
3) sure benchmarks are all well and truly good on the N4 but the GS3 is right up there in performance.
4) another thing i saw on the N4 is the 4.6" screen instead of the 4.85" on the S3, its not much but definitely a downgrade from your usual viewing space.
5) Great camera on the GS3 and touchwiz is not that bad
6) LG, Yeah Google sends out the updates but never been a fan of LG.
+ I read article (not completely sure, but i think it was from xda) in which nexus4 hardware is examined from two pics, writer found out that even samsungs bad build quality is better than lg4s, there was lots of things that could get loose or lose contacts after change of temperature, age.......

Reasons to buy
CyanogenMod+AOSP = 2 x speed of light + efficient CPU usage with S4 [S4-quadcore+1,5GHz >>>>>>> Exynos]
Opensource
Fast [or even leaked] Android upgrade
More life time
ps: S4 isn't better then Exynos just because of 1,5GHz, it's also because it's opensource, making it more efficient when modding, improving battery life, performance, everything at the same time.
About design: I think that the design is better. The S III looks like a fat boy, if you look at the screen. the corners aren't a perfect line, and I think it's ugly. Looks like a really big phone.
Well, I guess it's enough to convince me to buy N4, but I probably need to wait 5-4 months to launch here and even wait for it to low the price. So it should take about a year...
oh, it's also faster, I'm sure about that. Even the Galaxy Nexus + JB is faster and smoother. Even minecraft runs better [much better, at probably 60fps] on the Galaxy Nexus than the SIII [way lower FPS]

Zero shutter lag first debuted on the galaxy nexus, it was an ICS feature. So yes, of course the N4 has it.
Smart stay is a stupid feature.

b-but the phone understands you.
There isn't a single samsung feature that is useful for me.

Why haven't you changed phone yet?

Curious to see why all fellow members haven't changed from their SGS3 to a newer phone.
In my case, I still haven't found a phone that is at least 2x superior in every aspect. The SGS3 still has a very good camera, big HD screen, 1080P video recording, lots of storage (48GB in mine), Android 4.3, etc.
I tried the Nexus 5 recently but ended returning it. The vibration and Wi-Fi signal were very weak. They were worse than on my SGS3. Also had the microphone audio problem when recording videos. Screen was great. Camera was worse than my SGS3. The overall tone and colors were darker and pictures were a downgrade. I'm still amazed at the picture quality of my SGS3. It takes great pictures, and I like having the peace of mind of having enough storage to shoot 100 minutes of 1080P video (I do record a LOT of videos using my phone).
Also battery on the Nexus 5 is not such a big improvement. It's better, but I would have preferred to upgrade to 3000 battery and maybe a 13Mpx camera.
Only thing I dislike of my SGS3 is the speed animation and fluidity. Animations are not consistent. I tried turning animations off but don't like it either. I've also tried CM11 and it's good, but still animations are not 100% consistent and quick.
So what about all of you? Why are you still using your SGS3 and haven't upgrade?
I will wait for SGS5 and LG G3.

I've paid 600€ for my s3... And the next time im gonna paid so much money for a smartphone it must be the ultimate high end smartphone.. At the moment there is no Phone i would buy.. Maybe Note 3 But better wait for s5.... And i defenitly stay on Samsung.. Best Displays for.. Hardware is top.. Only the Software could be better.. And if you drop ur smartphone often u gonna like the plastic .. Also Samsung is the Only one Who still bring update for a 2 years old device.. (Google too But dont like their devices.).. So I am Lucky with my s3.. Still Stock Sammy look and firmware... No issues with the Phone even i have an insane Chip..

In June the S5 will probably be out, but I'm reluctant to buy Samsung again with the Knox BS, so I'll see what I can get.
It's a solid device
Like other posters said, the performance gap between an S3 and say a Nexus 5 isn't really enough to justify a new expensive handset. I'll reconsider later in the year when the Nexus 6 is announced.
The replaceable battery and SD card have really made a difference that I didn't expect (I only got the S3 as an insurance replacement for Nexus 4). It would be hard to give them up.
The S3 is still very popular worldwide so there is a solid dev scene - example OmniROM - which means I don't really miss out too much on a Nexus device.
i dont like the direction phones are being designed, everyone is putting HD or UHD screens on phones (read: overkill), faster hardware to match, most getting too big also, battery usually stays the same in terms of how much you can actually use your phone...
would only wish for lil more horsepower on s3 gpu and it would be a perfect phone
S3 could be the successor to the HD2, nearly 5 years old and still being developed.
As many people updating to the S4 find, it's no fun owning one on your own -developer support is everything and the S3 has such a huge user base

here in brazil phones are very expensive
Because I paid 40k (indian rupees) for it:laugh:
Anyway the device is still pretty solid overall with no major limitations and awesome dev support. I think i will consider upgrading it when Note 4 comes, I will buy the, then cheaper Note 3 :highfive:
No need, still works like a charm. I don't see anything compelling for me to upgrade, I'll be keeping this for a couple more years easily.
Because bought it half year ago lol, with contract. And I won't have money after the contract will end to buy a new phone,so I think I will stay with this one for 2 or maybe even more years.
But S3 is the world's best selling phone. It's popular, huge user base,it has one of the best development support, and S3 is already fast enough in real world performance and even new games,so I don't need a new expensive phone to just do the same I do in my S3 but have A LITTLE smoother animations.
Because I was saving money for vaction and on top of that, the S3 is still a very solid performer. So there was no real need to upgrade. The ROM developments are active, it has Android 4.3, and the screen is still awesome. I will be changing phone this year though, most likely to the S5.
Simply because my SGS3 is so fast with Nova Launcher, it has great battery life, a pretty good camera and every app I want to use works perfectly fine with it. I only upgrade when the apps I want to use do not run or run bad, or when my phone dies of course
I had the SGS1 before this, I really felt the urge of upgrading when the SGS3 came out, but now I never even thought about upgrading.
EDIT:
Also, when 4G gets mainstream (read:affordable) I will probably want to upgrade, but only if there are proper 4G phones that work on practically all 4G bands. That is a feature that might get me to buy a new phone, as you will get real internet which can be used to properly video call and game on the go.
Coming from the s3 lte to a note 3. The difference is huge but not praticle. I love the note 3 but in some ways the s3 lte was just perfect. Had great size, speed and also every app was designed on it.
Like even mc4 is optimized on the s3 but not the note 3. So we don't get the good graphics.
Anyways everyone stay with the s3 till it dies

Ive had mine for 1 and a half year and i see little incentive in changing it. Buying it for almost 65k Pak rupees and now finding the resale is less than 40% of that value, Maybe 25k for one in perfect condition, but going as low as 10k if it has a damaged screen as mine which is absolute rubbish.
Its a legendary phone that started the high end smartphone battle. Its just a pity about the electronic wastage that goes on, in 1 year a device can not only become old and outdated but turn into an antique, a term that used to be used for being decades old. Camera never ceases to amaze, half HD and full HD screens look the same if your not holding it close to your face and focusing on the pixels.
Battery? Smoothness? I can say my s3 feels just as fast if not faster than the s4 and note 3. The great dev support is pushing battery and performance capabilities to never before seen limits. Theme changes make you believe you own a new phone. In the case of the S4/note3 roms, you are convinced you have an S4/note3 as in S4 Revolution or Glamour S4/Note3.
The cool gimmicky but useless features you might ask about? Smart Pause/Smart Scroll have already been ported. The Note 3's air command is hardly hardware related, and could show up in a few months if not less. So we got all and ever more that we need from our S3.
Im proud to have an S3.
Because my work pays for my phones, i get 230 euro a year to get phone for, if i don't buy one i can save the money so the year after have 510 euro to buy a phone for. So i´m saving money right now
I don't see any reason to buy a new phone other than a old gpu in s3, but i'm sure it'll run fine for next 1 year
To be honest, custom samsung roms 4.3 made me not want to change so soon. Before that, phone was really bad. Lagfest with 4.1 with no ability to multitask. Aosp melted way to much battery for my liking. With 4.3 I got some of the multitasking power back, nearly no lag and very good battery. If it dies, i'll get a nexus 5 as it's the best bang for the buck. If not, I'll stick around. Depending on samsung with their knox tech though, the day they shove such crap down my throat is the day they lose me as a client.

This is because it worked great, until now ;P
I hope I switch soon to OPPO's new winner, or cyanogenmods new phone !

[Q] Is Nexus 4 still worth buying?

Hey guys,
Recently I've been thinking about changing my Xperia Mini Pro to something better. I just want to get phone that won't be laggy after some while - XMP is like that, no matter on which ROM and kernel.
I've got iPhone in my thoughts, but I don't have many friends with Apple product so it'd be useless - I wouldn't be able to use iMessage or AirDrop so functionality drops down a lot.
Next thing in my mind was Windows Phone. I think it's great alternative for Android, but when I had a fight with my moms Lumia 520, I decided not to buy Windows Phone so soon.
So my eyes looked at Android not-so latest smartphones and I saw Nexus. I felt in love with design of Nexus 4 and 5. My friend got N5 so I did play a little with it and I'd love to buy 5, but I can't afford that so the only alternative is to buy Nexus 4.
I've read that it has good hardware and Android runs smoothly even after a year of using - it's a must be for me, because it's going to be my phone for about 2-3 years from now. The only thing is that glass design - it's beautiful but isn't it vulnerable to scratches or even cracks?
And the best thing I'd love about Nexus 4 is that it's going to get Android L - it's the best information I've heard recently.
So guys... Finally. Is Nexus 4 still worth buying in 2014?
My friend is selling N4 for about 200-230$.
I can tell you, the Nexus 4 is worth every penny, also in 2014 too!
Not only the Nexus 4 has good hardware and everything runs smooth und fast but the community behind this device is great, gentle and helpful. Just take a look at the Nexus 4 threads here on xda. This is just awesome! :good:
With the vanilla android and open source policy of the Nexus 4 you can customize this device to your hearts content. Cyanogenmod, ParanoidAndroid, matr1x kernel, ak...just to name a few examples.
I also own a Nexus 4 since 1 and a half year and its runs like Usain Bolt.
Honestly you shouldn't buy the N4. The phone is very fragile. The glass on the back is thin and is not protected with Gorilla Glass. The Camera is not good, Galaxy S3 has a better camera than the Nexus 4. That is both video and still photos. The battery is average and will last you through a day, maybe two days if you use a battery saving kernel like HellsDoctor.
Lot's of games do not work very well on the Nexus 4, for some reason, i think it's bad optimization with AOSP, because the Quad Core 1.5Ghz CPU and Adreno 320 are strong enough to play every android game. The Nexus 4 also has thermal issues, because of an internal design flaw, the CPU can get very hot (up to 60C in games) if you don't undervolt it with a custom kernel. Than the temp peaks out at maximum 45-50C.
Now i don't mean to bash the Nexus 4, i have one! The design is very nice, it has a good display (With Obsanity_Amoled it looks like an OLED display!), and it has thin bezels. The Nexus 4 is also very very fast, it could compete with the S5, HTC One M8 and Xperia Z2.
But, here is what would I do if I were to change my phone.
If i were you, i would not get the Nexus 4. or the Nexus 5. I would get a Galaxy S4, but i would go for the i9505 or the i9506, the 4G Snapdragon 600 and 800 versions.
I know they are made out of plastic but i would have hard shell case on it so it wouldn't matter.
Yes, they run on TouchWiz but guess what? You can put AOSP on them! That's nexus 4 speeds (even faster because of Snapdragon 600&800) and you get an AMAZING 13MP Camera (my friend has the i9505 and that camera is just EYE QUALITY), and you get a bigger, replaceable battery!
So what's your choice, Nexus 4, or a Galaxy S4 i9505-i9506 AOSP Edition?
I heard about fragility of this phone but I'm trying to take care about my phones . So I don't think it would be a problem - if I'd buy N4, the first thing will be buying a case or a bumper.
When we're going into games - I don't even play games on smartphone. The only games I've ever played were Angry Birds, Flappy Bird, Drop and 2048, so I'm not that "gamer" guy. I heard a little about heating up. But which smartphone hasn't that problem? Even my XMP has a heat problem when I'm using it intensively and long. But it may be a little problem when it comes to heating up even when using WiFi or something like that...
And about that Galaxy S4 is the thing that I really don't like the whole Galaxy series design. It looks too much like cheap phones for me. I much prefer the Sony or Apple design - especially iPhone 4.
I thought about Moto G too, but 1 GB of RAM isn't very convincing and I looked a little at Meizu MX3 with Flyme OS 3 - it's beautiful OS, I think. But it's battery is horrible.
And here we come... Battery... And that's the thing. 4.70" screen and 2100 mAh battery... Nexus 5 isn't better. That's hurting me a lot, that battery life.
Maybe more users will answer in this topic - I do find it very helpful.
But for now thanks for answers, guys! It's harder choice than I thought
still rocking my nexus 4 naked , for about 1 year or bit more , no cracks but some scratches here and there because it keeps sliding randomly , besides that it can easily go through next 3 years without hiccup imo , i was in almost same boat as you but i really think 200-250 is wayy wayyyyyy too much for nexus 4 these days , 150 $ for 16 gb is reasonable in mint but used condition , even if you are gamer this baby will run anything you throw at it without any stutters or anything , battery isnt issue it can last as much as any other phone if you use properly optimized kernel and default display settings suck anywhoo if you can get htc one gpe that would be also great :good:

I completely disagree with you. Tell me a game that doesnt run well on the N4? I'm a hardcore gamer and there is barely any game that I havent played. Deciding for a phone for it's camera? If so buy a Nokia 3310 and some Nikon/Canon and you rock lol
The topic: I bough a N4 soon and 4 of my friends bough N4 after they played a bit with mine. I would buy it again if I didnt already have it.

NFS: Most Wanted runs perfectly but GTA Games, Gangstar Vegas, Despicable Me: Minion rush lag or run at lower framerates.

Ever seen Gangstar game running smooth on any device? Even tho on the high settings i finished it w/o any lag with franco kernel. I tried all of the rest and gangstar lags but not with franco, you should try it too. Almost finished GTA:SA and it bugged my safe game also with franco kernel. Despicable me is known for its "optimization" and lagging for most of the devices. When u see bad fps try to see if other phones have it like Despicable me. And for most of the games u said are actually made by Gameloft who produce even unfinished projects so it should not make ur decision.Gameloft is like:
-ok guys we made the game what now, should we optimize it?
-dafaq you are talking about opti-what? Is it running?
-yea but with bad framerate.
-its ok man, release it we will blame people's devices. :good:
Also I'm thinking about not to buying any phone right now and get cash for Nexus 5 - I love this minimalistic design and everything. But this battery to 4.95" screen is misunderstanding...
In your place, I would absolutely go for the N4. I'm using one myself. No matter what I do to the software (hint: a LOT!) I can always get it back up and running. I love the phone and wouldn't replace it with anything other than a Nexus 5.
I've owned a Nexus 4 since the end of August 2013 and even today I still love this phone and I don't feel the urge to upgrade. (At least not until the Nexus 6 is released.)
This phone handles everything I want it to do. Its fast, snappy and simple, one of the reasons I love pure Android as there is no bloat. My phone is still completely stock from day 1 as I don't feel the need to root it. The screen is still quality in my eyes. There is also a possibility that this phone will receive Android L officially from Google which would be fantastic.
However my major grip; battery life. It is horrendous. Hardly makes it through a day for me. I even use extensive methods to save battery, for example, no Google now, location services off, phone on flight mode when WiFi is on etc. And the battery life still sucks. Its a shame the battery is not replaceable or I would have installed an extended battery as I have done in the past for previous phones.
My brother owns a Nexus 5, and from what I've seen his battery life is much much better than the Nexus 4. (He doesn't even use any optimisations and battery saving tweaks)
Comparing the Nexus 5 side by side to the Nexus 4 I don't feel a significant difference to warrant to purchase of the newer model, so when I was given the opportunity a few months ago, I turned it down and I will wait for the Nexus 6.
Bottom line; Nexus 4 is a fantastic phone, but terrible battery life.
yes
I would buy because of the communty behind it

The Nexus 4 is a brilliant phone right now, but its ageing processor, lack of LTE and bad battery life mean it probably won't last another 2-3 years. It is a two year old phone, after all.
I just picked up a mint one for 170 and at that price to me its a great phone now yea its just a backup to my z ultra but I am still having a lot of fun with it. I mean just look at the Dev support, its crazy good and I got LTE working in just a few mins pulled 70 down and 25 up first try on T-Mobile.

You say you don't feel the need to root it yet you have bad battery life. Now go root it and flash HellsDoctor kernel..... you'll have about 4-5 hours of screen on time
And guys, what do you think about this Moto G. I've read a little about it.
Maybe this 1 GB of RAM is not that bad. Any experiences with that smartphone?
About support - I know and that's the best thing in the whole Nexus series - community support. And I'm still hesitating between N4/N5 and now this Moto G came into my mind... It's not so expensive and hardware isn't that bad.
edit: but it doesn't havet NFC . But I think it'll get Android L:

I am considering getting a second hand N4 as it's still a great phone, especially if it receives Android L from Google. I have an S4 and have been thinking about selling it as with the money (around £240) I could buy an N4 (£120) AND a Nexus 7 2013 (£110). I have the 2012 N7 so would sell it also. Just trying to figure out how much I would miss having the expandable storage option and also the camera on the S4. The other features (sensors, IR, removable battery), I think I could live without as I have them turned off pretty much all the time anyway, don't use the IR remote feature that much and take advantage of a spare battery. I think an external backup battery could be a better solution anyway (much higher capacity, can feature multiple USB ports for several phones/devices.)
Thinking about the expandable storage, it probably wouldnt be much of an issue, as my S4 is a 16GB model but you only get 8-9GB internal accessible even after debloating, where as a 16GB nexus 4 has about 13.5GB available and I could use my 32GB sd card with an OTG reader when need be, I also back up photos using Google auto backup as well which helps. Sorry just trying to convince myself to go ahead and sell my S4..
Still a great phone
In my opinion the N4 is still one of the best phones out there. I recommend it to everyone.

I'm going with Nexus 4. Nexus 5 is too expensive for me. I won't get cash from my mother to buy Nexus 5. I'll lend some money from friend or brother for Nex 4. Nexus 4 is for about 200-250$ here, in Poland, used and in good condition but from my friend's friend . Through something like ebay maybe I could get one for 180$ but I don't want to risk broken or stolen smartphone.
So, guys, thanks for answers and advices! Thanks so much. Everyone are getting "Thanks" button from me!
Let the Nexus force be with you, guys! .

Want to buy note 4

Hello guys. İ want to buy note 4.
Whixh edition do you suggest?
Sdragon or exynos?
And can you tell me pros and cons for phone? İ read reviews buy i want real users feedback.
Do you suggest it for today? 2016 april.
Yes, I completely suggest it for today, in this time, especially the price is pretty cheap now.
Pros for me:
- Great camera in daylight, above average in low light
- Incredible display
- Superb call quality
- Very good built, though the metal edges will scratch in no time, but that's metal for you
- TouchWiz is okay-ish. Not bad, but not that good either, but with MM released things will get better I am sure
- Excellent battery backup, with MM
Cons:
- Samsung's shoddy update policy for different variants
- Camera in low light, can't compete in that level with nowadays phones like S7, Note 5 etc., but its still close
- Rear mounting speaker!
- Screen to body ratio
- Meh Fingerprint scanner
PS: You can go for either model, Exy or SD, both have very good support from XDA. I heard that Exynos is better for gaming, while SD is better for overall optimisation and battery life, can't be sure about that myself as I only have one variant, SD.
İ didnt understand update part. What about front camera?
İ am using nexus 5 , is it worth upgrade? And how much it cost now?

I don't use Front cam at all mate, so can't comment. Nexus 5? That's one of the hardware nightmarish phone I have ever owned, I can't even put both the phones in same sentence, no offence.
Note 4 32 gigs cost around 32-33k INR here, but very often it sells around 30k or something.
Then i will go for note 4. And there is on more same price phone galaxy s6. İ dont know s6 is good too or not. İ hrard battery life is bad on s6

Both snap and exynos are powerfull. But in fact, through a lot of benchmark, exynos is better than snap, but just alittle bit. I'm also use the exynos version too. If you want to play game, should buy snap version. And if u want something for work, exynos is great.
P/s: one more thing u should no, exynos version is cooler than snap, snap is too hot after using for a while, and the battery of exynos version also better than snap version. Hope that you buy the phone suit for u.

What do you mean exactly?? because im a happy owner of a nexus 5 for 2plus years now and i can tell you for sure that i wont replace this crude diamond not even for a future s15 edge or anything.
Now for our friend's question. as u can see i allready own a nexus 5 like you, and i bought a N910c (thats the exynos) about 2 months ago. I DIDNT got this as a replacement for nexus,as the matter of fact i use it without sim. anyway my previous samsung device was back in 2012 with the NOTE 10.1 wifi... well after this i swore to myself that i wont buy a samsung again. But here i am after 4 years breaking that promise with spending 400euros to a piece of.......... imnot going to analyse this, do a better research to have lower chances to regret a purchase.(not like me)
My personal advice is to do your self a favor and dont buy this device or perhaps any mobile device from that company. -not for the hardware but for the software.-
and for your info nexus 5 runs way smoother than the exynos. maybe the snapdragon would be a better choice if u insist buying the note

Shouldn't bother replying to a person who would prefer a decade old phone over a newer one, but still replying just so someone "new" and "uninformed" can actually see what Nexus 5 really is.
By nightmarish hardware I meant:
- It is one of the most awfully built device out there. Kudos LG.
- The call quality of the phone is awful, as well as the reception. I have never had a phone with as terrible reception as that, and please don't even bother wasting your time by saying I live in an industrial area or something where reception is poor, rather its very opposite.
- The display. No comments.
- The camera. No comments.
- The external speakerphone. No comments.
Shall I go on?
Nexus is Nexus because of its SOFTWARE ONLY, period, and no exception is Nexus 5.

Note 4 Exynos will be the best choice you can have, it's better than Snap one. ^^

I would say you should wait until the Note 6 or 7. Or whatever comes next.
This one is still very expensive, and will not get any support whatsoever from now on.
It's a good device, NOW, but it costs so much you could just buy a Nexus 6P for example.
Or a Z5, M10, whatever. You get the point.
BUT, if you are some fanboy, here goes nothing...
Sdragon:
+ Faster 3D performance, better for gaming basically.
+ More roms/kernels. (though none of them will be as complete as stock)
Exynos:
+ Better battery life
+ Faster 2D performance
+ Faster performance (single, multi core)
- Games have crap framerates, see below.
I picked Exynos because I rarely play games.
If you check comparisons on Youtube, it beats Snapdragon by miles in any task, except 3D.
Framerate: Like Asphalt got... 20 or something it's real console like (eww). Modern Combat is also around 25 or so.
Too bad games on Android cannot scale down to 1080p or 720p, there is absolutely no point in having such a huge resolution for a game.
Other points - affects all Note 4:
Screen protectors are hard to find, you have to buy these "full display protectors", because of the curved glass. Just buy it on eBay and you are good.
Do NOT spend too much on cases. I bought Spigen, I bought all kinds of fancy cases. And guess what? The cheapest eBay case is the best. Not even kidding.
Metal cases, even if ONLY the frame is metal/aluminium, WILL BLOCK GPS signal. Not kidding.
When buying a case, make sure it protects the camera bulge.
Cases should have a WIDE left hole on bottom, because the microphone there can be on two positions. Mine is on the right. (SM-N910C)
No updates. MM is the last, we all know that. Even MM will take months to arrive to people.
There is no Theme Store or any new features that came with S6 and so on.
Battery life is not the best, it's around 1 days.
Bonus, you can use extended batteries. But then you lose the thinness of the device, which helps a lot when you carry it around. I have a ZL 10k mAh pack with the belt clip, it's a hassle to use.
Rooting is out of question if you want warranty. And all my Samsung Galaxy/Note devices had issues within the two first years, so I suggest you don't do it. Or get some nice insurance on your device, that might cover you. Or just save up some money, lol.
The list: S3 LTE, Note 2, S4, S4 Mini, Note 2014 10.1, Note 4.
One more thing. You may be able to buy the Snapdragon variant much cheaper. It's around 470$ here, but it's from the "gray market". It's boxed, new, but they only offer repairs by themselves, like you don't send it back to Samsung, but to the shop you bought it from.
Compared to this, the Exynos is 700$ or so. But this one comes with 2 years of original Samsung warranty.
Again, it's not the best solution, but there is a good chance you will not need a warranty repair.

İ need battery peeformance , camera, multitasking . i dont care about games anyway (i got nexus 5 i can play games on them)
İ dont care about roms too.

Well, update wise, anything is better than Samsung. (Just check Sammobile's comment section.)
Uhm... I would not buy a Xiaomi because of the bloated interface. That's the problem I have with Lenovo and other Chinese/cheap eastern devices. Like Lenovo put 4gb of ram into their device, made it very affordable, and killed it with a megabighuge UI. I don't know why.
What about the LG G4? (G5 is way too expensive.)
Flagships there receive updates for quite some time, and it's got a removable battery.
Just asking. Don't know about the SD808 performance.
By the way Sony used SD801 Pro in their Z3 series and that thing flies. It feels faster than my Exynos Note 4.
Again if you don't mind the no updates, you might be fine with the Note 4.
Remember years are A LOT of time in the smartphone world, especially if it's not a Nexus that gets updates, can be rooted, can be modded tons of ways.
There are a few roms for Exynos as well if you check the forum - mostly backported Note 5 ones, but I can't remember when was the time I ever used a stable rom. Maybe CM9 with the stable release - was kinda stable. But that's it. To me, it's a big letdown.
Like I am on the street, I have to make an emergency call, and I can't make calls.
I am on the road, need to make a quick map check, but can't because there is no GPS atm.
Want to browse some website real quick, it would be real important, can't because the mobile data is down currently.
And these happened at the most inconvenient times.
Ps.: If you are not real tech savvy, like my father, he is fine on KK. There is a newer update for his device, but on LL the call recorder crashed sometimes, phone lagged, etc. But he does not care, you know, he is totally fine with KK.
