Any word on when will a Google edition version come out ?
so far no details, only rumours and speculations.
There have been rumblings that Google will announce the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition on April 11, but for now we'll have to wait to see if those rumblings turn into reality.
I'm going to guess it will only be available to those who live in the states and surrounding areas...which is quite sad for me

You can always buy it via US google play store, have it delivered to an intermediate post-forwarding company that sends it through to Aus.
It will be more expensive yes, and you would have to pay an import tax, but it's an option.

Thanks, I'll consider doing that if it all adds up to a significant amount under 800 or so dollars

We wait for the update there in AU. Hoping it will not be that expensive.
pretty sure a GPE S5 is going to be at minimum 700 dollars closer to 800, consider they are charging more for a 16gb S5 unlocked than a 32 gb m8 unlocked...also the m8 is 699 GPE with tax ur almost at 700, whether the s5 is worth the money is your choice, personally I dont see it being worth the amount they are charging for a regular s5 let alone the premium a GPE will cost, if your only concern is stock android get a nexus 5 for half the price and call it a day.
Will it still be the anemic 16GB or will they finally offer us a 32GB version?

You have no idea how jealous I am now
It sucks that Google and Samsung are not announcing or denying the release of the Google play edition, HTC did the right thing by announcing it at the same time they announced their phone, I think it sucks buying the s5 and finding out in 3 months that there will be a Google play edition after all, yes you can flash the rom on your phone, but not everyone will give up their warranty because of it
I'm also surprised to see the little amount of interest on xda for the Google play edition, how can you live with touchwiz, it's so ugly, well maybe that's why Samsung doesn't bother, it seems the public is happy with touchwiz, only bloggers, tech magazines, designers (like I) bash it
Edit: I posted the below deal this morning but it was pointed out in the replies that an even steeper Nexus 6 discount was announced today (see Phandroid link below). The 32 GB Nexus 6 is now available for $500 from Best Buy and also the Google Store (64 GB for $550).
I wish to highlight a Nexus 6 deal which I could not find listed anywhere else on XDA Dev or by Google search. The unlocked Nexus 6 is available for $550 at Best Buy. To obtain it at this price, one simply needs to ask in store for the unlocked Nexus 6 and then ask for a price match against T-mobile's online store, where the phone is currently on sale for $549.84. I also called Best Buy customer service and was informed by a representative that this price match should apply in all stores and to any purchases made from the Best Buy online store.
I can confirm this approach can work, since I was able to obtain a Nexus 6 for $549.84 in store from a Best Buy store this last weekend. However, I also found a Best Buy forum post where it was claimed that the price match was initially not honored (unfortunately I cannot include the link since I am a new member). Therefore, the ease of this approach may vary according to the representative one encounters.
As an additional note, T-mobile starter kits, which include a nano SIM, are currently on sale at Best Buy for $5. Thus one can set up an unlocked Nexus 6 on T mobile for ~$555 plus tax.
I apologize if I posted this thread in the wrong place or duplicated a pre existing thread. I will monitor the thread and delete/repost if necessary.
Is there any advantage (Other than the price right now) to buying the unlocked version -vs- the carrier specific one?

The ATT and Verizon are locked to their respective carrier. However once you have them paid off for the device you can get it unloved to work on other carriers.
The hard was is all the same.

Thanks. I'm thinking of getting one but I currently have the Note 3 on ATT and they use diff sim cards. I was going to simply pop mine in. Seems like I have to get a nano sim and add another line. I hate that the carriers have us by the sacs.

If you get one you don't have to add a line just have AT&T switch Sims and phone.
You would have to buy out right. With the T-Mobile $100 off deal is a great way to save some money. Best Buy will match the price.
Also Best Buy is selling the 64gb version for $550 not the 32gb Verizon and AT&T sells.
No need for price match anymore.

Thanks, I just saw that too! Google says that TMO doesn't price match, but I'm still in my 14 day window for the one I bought from them. Has anyone had any luck getting them to price match, or at least allow a return without their restocking fee?

Just returned mine back to BB and bought new saved another $50 bucks and ended up buying a 60'' LED for $450
since the note 5 has been released and the release date for us Canadians is august 21. so, who's getting one? I'm still on the fence on picking up one, but if I do it's probably going be the 64gb version. Let's begin the discussion on it.:good:
I will for the first time since the note 2 not be getting a new note this year.
Samsung has totally dropped the ball (and thats a huge understatement ) this time around.
Black only and 32gb of storage?
No thanks.

I was looking on the Bell site and I only saw the 32gb ($850). I chat online with a rep and she said they are only carrying the 32gb. At this point I can't see myself getting one

That really sucks, long term 32gb is going be cutting it close. I was hoping we would have a choice between 32gb and 64gb.

The Note 4 is now $200 cheaper at Bell ($230 with tax) - which has me seriously considering whether a Note 4 isn't a better choice for my money.

Absolutely impossible. That must be used space not free. 32gb note5 should have around 22GB available space.
64 GB Note5 has 52GB free space accordingly to one of the xda member who received his phone from At&t.

Sorry, had to!
Seriously pissed that Canada only gets the 32gb version, and only in black. I have sent protest tweets to Samsung Canada and Telus. Everyone should do the same (Samsung and your carrier).
Choice, what people want. Why does only Apple understand this?
Here's a picture. The phone is a Demo so maybe people has been testing the 4K video recording and taking lots of pictures..
Where did you see this demo

I just found both at a Bell store in Chinook Centre, Calgary. Both had different free storage that I won't even bother posting. Also, don't forget that these are are retail demo units (running demo mode and with a retail disk partion) so you can't take them as gospel.

I want to check them out before deciding whether to reserve or not - could you actually play with phones at the Bell store, or were they not supposed to be on display? (Just want to make sure it's worthwhile to drive out to Chinook).

Yes you could play with both, and the regular edge and Note 4 are next to them, totally worth the drive.
Hey guys , I saw this on another forum and I want to share with you , if you have not seen this.
So Rogers Canada sell the device for 359$ without a contract (it's a promo limited time) This is the 32GB LTE is a really good price because Google play ask 669$ for this model. You can order by phone or go to store for having it. If some peoples wondered if the tablet is locked sim with Rogers, the answer is no it is only for phones.
You must activate it with a 5$ minimum data plan without a contract ( the 20$ fee connectionis you can have it for free on phone and on many stores ) After that you can cancel your account in the same days for having nothing else to pay.
Here the link: HTC Nexus 9 Rogers
Here is my experience with this:
I already have a nexus 9 16GB since last year ( i have got in solde for 350$ )..
Finally I decided to replace my 16GB for the 32GB LTE and selling my 16GB. Great move!
I was in a Rogers store last week and the store manager sold me without contract. The maganer told me he had no connection fees or charges for the sim card for tablets. So is said me is free for all of this. So i have Took the plan for 5$ and later in the day I call Rogers to cancel the line, and he said he had nothing to pay so no invoice because I cancel in the same day.
Have fun
Nobody in Canada here? lol.
I am, just already have a n9 lol. That's a super deal though.

Well, even if you wanted to buy from this site you would not receive it because they don't deliver abroad. Btw it is the official shopping site of ZTE.
I'll also have to wait until it officially arrives in Europe.

I hope it does as I know a few people that would like one but can only afford a phone through a carrier subsidy. I hope the 6GB/128GB goes up for pre-order soon for the US and Canada. This is the only phone over the past few years that has interested me enough to do away with carrying two phones daily. A Nexus 6 and a Nexus 6P are both great phones, but being able to have two SIM's in one very decent device all around is what I have been hoping to see for quite some time.
The Telus and T-Mobile reps I have spoken with don't list it on what they have coming in the next few months though. Wind in Canada will probably get them in limited supply though. Being available at BestBuy and other major retailers across the US will also make them easy to find.

Seems to go along with the price that has been thrown out there. $650
If the prices from the "international pre-order" are right, we stand at 409€/449$ for 4gb/64gb version. For the 6gb/128gb version, considering adjusted conversion prices, we are at 549€/619$.
That puts us with a 140€/170$ difference between the two versions.
I mean i'm not intersted in the "premium" version but even if the only differences are RAM, ROM and Force Touch, it seems like a pretty sweet deal to me !
I highly doubt it'll be sold through and subsidized by carriers. This will be the typical unlocked device scenario.
it has not even been confirmed that the 6gb version will sell internationally....
