And people like you are reasons why other devs dont like to help us out. Give credit, and most of the time, they allow. I used 5 diff devs stuff in my release. Got permission from all of them. They said, thanks for asking. Thats all it takes. Its called respect. And working together.
EDIT: XDA must have thought he was bad since they banned him, but he is now back again.

alright look, im not fighting for him only stating that this is a forum dedicated to doing things your told you can't, correct? i don't agree with the fact that hes not giving credit to other devs or posting links back to original files. trust me i understand how having things stolen feels. but in his defense mabey speaking with him instead of accusing might be a good idea. Apple is suing GOOGLE for stealing ideas. honestly our phones seem to have been built around stolen ideas,
mabey im just playing devils advocate here but, you really have to ask yourself do you want to feel like steve jobs today?
but now thinking about it after xda as a wholes better judgement said to get rid of him . . . (head down) mabey there right

You are literally ranting about nothing.
Did I just get called Steve Jobs?
Anyway, thanks for posting the link, give credit next time.
Awesome, I never use that search key anyways.
This is actually pretty cool, shoutout to whoever created this!
Guys, there's a reason I posted a guide..
It's so that anyone can adapt it however they want. I could even care less about credit, since that's the OP's choice.
And being that it's such a low level hack, all it takes is a little bit of tinkering to figure everything out.
No need to grill him.
nothings stolen. i found that myself when i was looking for some files myself.
it may have been posted already but i didnt know about it.

just checked your post. my bad. i honestly didnt know you already had this posted. i came across it myself last night. ill update the OP to include your link though. thats for not going ape **** on me

Thanks for giving credit to decadeance. Just FYI for anyone else that might be wondering, using the work of others without giving due credit IS against the rules of XDA-Developers.
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Since this was resolved in a matter of which did not require a moderators attention then no warnings will be issued since it seems to have been an honest mistake. It is true that this is OPEN SOURCE however that does not mean that you can claim rights to another developers work. We are striving to aid others in achieving more with the community but a house divided against itself cannot stand. Work together, treat each other with respect, resolve issues/problems/differences via private messages whenever possible to keep the forum from getting out of hand and always remember to follow the rules.
Thanks for your time.

No. Helping would be saying "You do this "insert explanation". Just posting that is trolling. He might as well have posted "oil platform, platypus, beetle" it tells me nothing, and I have no idea what it is and searching for it is no help at all. As always if people don't want to help that's fine but they should shut up then.

That thread is about making a theme, I don't want to make a theme. I want to sign an apk (actually I want to change an ICON but someone says you have to sign the apk whatever that means).
(Also note first line: "you will need a working knowledge of android, adb,how to resign apk's" - I don't have that, I don't have that, I don't know how to do that!)
Anyway, unsubbing this thread.
Perhaps the problem was using "sign" in the subject.
I shall make a new post with a more newbish title.
@Kermode
You want to do something, but don't want to get knowledge on how to do that, because this is too much for you. Not everything could be explained in two words.
If it means reading hundreds of threads with hundreds of irrelevant and offtopic messages, yes then it is too much for me. If it meant reading a concise page with only relevant information, perhaps it wouldn't be too much.
And whilst two words are enough for nothing, everything can be reduced to a relatively short core meaning.
Ok, I think easiest way is to:
unzip apk file
find and replace an icon
remove META-INF dir
zip everything back and name it as *.apk
sign it: you could search for testsign tool or look here: http://d.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html . Most important for you are "Obtain a suitable private key" and "Sign your application with your private key".

PEOPLE like you really piss me off on forums...you dont bother looking up information like you should, your very disrespectful, and from what ive seen your an all around! Sorry for my language MODS but someone has to say it. You should learn your spot and if you wanna learn how to resign then look as there are plenty of threads. You just want someone to give you everything and do it the easy way. Sometimes in order to do things you must do your homework which apparently you cant do.
For the way you acted to the other guy i would suggest that NO ONE help this guy and let him learn how to do it by himself Since he pretty much just said he isnt gunna look through threads he wants it handed to him(look at the post above)!
PEOPLE like you disgust me!
@OP:
Sufficient responses have been provided to an improperly titled thread.
XDA is about knowledge and experiences whilst using a particular device, application, or custom (tweak) work. As such, you will encounter numerous posts in threads that may provide less relevance than others within the same thread - it is your responsibility to "filter" past such posts ... this is no different than any other Forum you may frequent.
Additionally, there is an option in your profile to view up to 50 posts/screen page ... this greatly helps filter more content at once.

I have had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the creation of this app, but I follow this guy on Deviant Art, he is constantly coming up with useful things for windows, I had a look today and I found this and though people may find this useful:
WinADB: A Frontend for “adb” Command for Google Android Mobile Phones
This quote is taken from: HERE
If you have a Google Android mobile phone, you might be already knowing about "adb" command which is used to flash mobile phones, installing applications, copying files, etc.
This command is provided using a command-line and doesn't have any GUI.
Our friend "Solo-Dev" @ DA has created a frontend for this command so that you can take all advantages of "adb" command easily and quickly.
"WinADB" is a frontend for "adb" command used for Google Android mobile phones. All the required files you will need are included in the ZIP file. It also includes the required usb drivers for your PC.

Thank you Mystic for the find ...

looks like somebody found something cool the 'adb app' then some one post a alternative app , then the op gets offended , ...to the op ...i understand what you are saying , but i dont think he really meant to show you up , and isee you do what i do ...look up people stats to see who your dealing with ..but dont be so harsh on the boy ..lol

As always my intentions were helping out the community. Both apps do similar things and people may use whatever suits them best. The other app may have better functions and simplicity. In the end, the goal is to share our knowledge so everbody gets benefit. The response by the OP is VERY wrong.

@Mystic,
I agree with Thatruth here, I don't think memin meant anything bad, just posted with emphasis that the post shouldn't have had in the first place. I edited his comment (removed the caps) and deleted your post so that this thread can get back on topic. Please guys, keep it that way... there is no reason to be fighting over something like this.
@memin,
While alternatives are always welcome, you nearly hijacked Mystic's thread here. Next time, if you need to share something, please do it in your own thread. You will not be flamed as long as you post in the right section
Now, guys... play nice.

This thinking seems to be common on XDA from what I can tell and it seems flawed. Lets say for example someone is searching for ADB interface apps or by name for either of these apps it would greatly be helpful to read this post and see there is a better option available and that the general opinion is one app may be better then the other. If we can't respond to a thread with facts or opinions you end up seriously crippling the information sharing ability and quality of information on this site.
Sorry to carry this on further in this thread but I really think this is something for you to consider changing your mind about and maybe others who have posted might feel the same way.
Ok so after i have seen many people asking about doing things like porting and how to add power menu options and lockscreens( includes me ), i wanted to ask you guys if you can start sharing things like adding power menu options and adding lockscreens here..how to edit settings.apk to show lockscreens option..how to edit mod version when is written in the apk itself.. things like that..im not asking for something wrong right ????
So basicly this is like a guide just like the one jellette posted sometime before here in general, lets make an all in one guide so people dont be all over the place asking posts twice ...well i think i will benefit about this too since i have entered the dev world and its hard lol...no sleepeng well, not eating well, thats me i dont know about you...so what you guys think.. ?

Let me also add that sending a dev a request and only giving two options: tell me how or write a guide is not the way to request help. There is a 3rd and 4th option: walk me through it when you get the time (like I have done a lot) or don't help if you don't have the free time right now.
A dev works hard to pump out the best roms. They do not always have the time to walk away from their own project to fix someone elses.
I recently walked a "dev" through a port 100% from start to finish. That earned me a little line of thanks at the bottom of his OP and earned him a big arse line at the top of his OP stating that HE worked real hard to get the port bug free.... This ruins it for others, like yourself, when you ask for help.
Can I write you a guide and send you some files please?

who did this, that whore.
I usually have no trouble teaching someone or sharing any knowledge I (might) have, but when people message me and want things but have no idea how or why something is, it's annoying.
I know that's a little vague, so let me make it clearer: if you are going to PM someone and ask them how to do something you damn well better make sure of the following
1) you have Google searched the issue for at least 9999 hours
---- (tip: try using "site:xda-developers.com" in google)
2) you have tried doing this yourself
3) you at least have some idea of how whatever you're asking about works
4) you aren't asking said person TO do it, but rather HOW
And Bosina (and everyone else), I know guides are useful and all... but anyone can follow a guide. You need to learn HOW this stuff works

Can someone build NoMoarPowah like app for Galaxy 3?
NoMoarPowah is an app that automatically boots the (battery drained) phone in to android when connected to a charger. It is an amazing app but it is limited to a handful of Samsung devices only. I wish to expand the scope of this app. So, is there anyone who knows how to port this thing on Galaxy 3?

every android phone including our galaxy 3, boots up into android when it was switched off automatically due to low power and then connected to the charger !
why would we need an app ?
EDIT: And this is just a request so it should have been posted in the general or q&a section.
im sorry to say but even if you ported this app, it belongs to the apps section only. by no means it belongs to the dev section
This is only an advice, dont take it serious

Hey Ajay thanks for your reply. Though my thread is a request, the objective is to look for an answer to this issue. I appreciate your comments. Looking forward for more healthy discussions. Thanks!
BTW, I own Galaxy 3 for the past 1.5 yrs and i have not come across this phenomenon that you have mentioned in your post. I will surely try this and post back my experience.

Sorry!
EDIT2: But i don't understand the use of the app. It replaces the "boring charge animation". Never required for me.

True
There is no source for this app... it is quite difficult to hack it and make compatible...
I know there are some tools to decompile apk into java source code but i'm a bit afraid to break some copyright rules... I do not want to do it, anyway this app would be useful man!

WOW ! i saw the screenshots !!
im amazed that this app really uses the touchscreen in powered off mode !!
quite amazed and now, into the modding/porting level..
I have extracted some files from the apk. I can share them if you want.
Note: Please use these files strictly for reference only.
You can ask Chainfire(the developer of this app). He will surely give the source code

I don't think there is anything bad in extracting files and share them until they do not came from paid apps.

Not going to happen, as it's a paid app.
The app should work, it's the images that need to be resized to fit our screen.
Anyone wanna give it a try, resize the images in assets folder in the apk, or in /system/nomoarpowah (after you've installed the app and install it's files), and then reboot.
Even it it doesn't work (unlikely), it won't do any harm

no. of thanks 13 13
I have tried contacting him several times but he does not respond to mails et all. He does not even responds to posts in his own threads. I do not think he is going to be of any help.

You should thread carefully even if it isn't a paid app. Just because an app (or any piece of software) is free that doesn't automatically mean you (legally) have the right to decompile and use it's source (code).

It seems to me that you didn't even give him a full day to respond, that's definitely not enough time. I understand that you are probably excited and anxious, but you still have to give him time.
I don't think work on this should be started before hearing from chainfire, I'd also suggest that a dev (preferably recognized) that would work on this be the one to contact him and find some kind of comprise (this is an ad or pro app so a compromise is probably necessary if chainfire himself won't be working on the app). Perhaps that "our" dev can release an ad free version solely on xda (that will only work with our phone) and that chain fire can release a version with ads on the market. That's just a suggestion, who knows what chainfire will say.
Anyways I know I'm interested in how he got it to work and would love to be able to view the code someday (when I have enough android knowledge to understand the code)

I do not mean to hurt or misjudge anyone but the truth is chainfire is not even responding to his consumers. If you go to his threads, you will see people waiting to get support from him but unfortunately he aint responding. In such a scenario, it is difficult to contact him.
What you suggest is the right way to approach this issue. But someone will need to take extra efforts to reach him.

I don't think that decomiling an app is something illegal both if the ap is free or aid. It becames illegal if you edit, recompile and distribute it.
Otherwise any tool like apk tools, dex2jar etc would be illegal.
Anyway i gave a look at the code and i found it a little difficult to understand. Well not difficult, i mean, a dev shoul spen a big tima to understand ot and make approriate changes... i do not have all of this time, but i can help if someone starts to work on this.
