[Q] Branded or not Devices - Before unpacking - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Is it possible to know on a new device, before even unboxing it (from the box stickers), if the device is branded or not? and maybe it's CSC?
I have ordered an N910C and looking to find out if this is branded or not before unboxing it. (to avoid return issues in case is branded).

[Q] G901F - future non-branded ROMS via OTA possible?

I would have posted this under the S5 'T-Mobile' section, but I think it might be more of a generic discussion.
I am considering in purchasing the S5 Plus (G901F). From what I can see right now, this is only available in Germany, UK and just about now, Netherlands. Problem is that it's exclusive to respective providers and therefore - "branded"
I can find it cheaper from Germany - which is subject to T-Mobile / Telekom (same thing?) branding.
I have asked the shop and they confirmed that the phone is factory unlocked to any provider/country and that there is no "hardware branding" on the phone. Meaning no stickers, no logos or anything else physically on the phone.
However, there is "software branding". Meaning the firmware itself and whatever bloatware the provider has put inside that ROM.
Now, I have read that I can use ODIN and find the least crapware-loaded ROM (from any country) and flash it *without* compromissing the knox bit. So far so good.
What I would like to know is that: What happens when finally Samsung releases a pure, non-branded ROM for the G901F? I can still use ODIN to flash - no problem. But what about future releases. I mean future non-branded firmwares. Would I be able to use OTA from that point on, or would I have to keep an eye and update via ODIN? Can someone please elaborate and explain this?
I get it - that's a 'newbie' type of question, but I would be really grateful towards some help here. All I can do for someone who will spend 2mins for writing a useful/accurate answer is say 'thanks'
Didn't find an exact answer to what I ask here, hence me writing this. Hope it's not a double-post!

Hi jstoner,
I think that while using an unbranded ROM would probably prevent you from receiving OTA's from your provider you would still be left wih the Samsung tool for getting new updates - Kies.
It has the options to check for updates and to flash them.
The geeky option is indeed to keep your eyes out for updates and fire up Odin
Disclaimer: I never used Kies to update my phone so I might be wrong here
Sent from my Android powered Tricorder
I forgot to mention - I live in Greece (but I m thinking of buying the phone from Germany, as it's not available here yet)
Does KIES list all ROMs from ALL regions/providers for a particular phone?

Nobody knows man. But you can always flash the newest updates via odin without triggering knox. After a few month only German Vodafone is building an update. T- mobil stii stuck on h5 firmware. So if there will be an unbranded oce ever ever ever.........you have odin
Wonder if that Greek ROM is unbranded or not
As for hardware branding, it seems that all G901F units sold in Germany under Telekom/T-Mobile have that "LTE+" at the back (also on the retail box). Instead, those EE (UK) units seem to have no hardware branding at all - it just has the "Samsung" logo at the back cover (and nothing on the retail box)

There are a few Providerapps inside. All Roms i tested for 901F has the normal Samsung Bootloaderscreener. No Provider startup. So nothing to worry about . Mine has also the LTE+ logo, but former T-Mobile Devices have also Coverbrands on it...Thanks God these not

[Q] Changing from Vodafone to non-branded 5.0.1/OTA

Hey everyone, I'm not necessarily new to the rooting/custom rom scene, I spent hours messing around with my Note 2, but I've got a quick question because I can't find a straight forward answer.
Basically I'm Australian and I own the SM-N910G variant of the phone, it's NOT locked and I have no logo on my boot screen. The 5.0.1 update for the 910G was released today, hazzah! But that's only on the non-carrier OTA, Vodafone has just stated "Failed testing, contacting Samsung" now due to both Vodafone AND Samsung being slow in nature, this could take weeks. I'm also SICK of Vodafone's bloatware and extreme delay with updates (over a year for the Note 2's 4.4.4), and I'm not willing to do any extreme modifying to this phone unlike my Note 2 because I'm still paying this phone off on my contract, last thing I need is to be left with a bricked or unsatisfactory phone when I'm still paying off.
Now for anyone who doesn't want to read all that,
MY QUESTION: Am I able to flash the stock SM-N910G 5.0.1, and change any future OTA's to be the ones straight from Samsung without voiding my warrenty or increasing my flash count or voiding my future OTA updates. And if I can, what's the best way to go about it?
Because I'm sick of waiting 6 months for Samsung to bring updates to Australia, then another 6 months for Vodafone to finish "testing" it.
Also I originally posted this in the wrong section, which I apologize for.
I upgraded to the indian 910g non branded 5.01 lollipop a week ago and had no problems whatsoever. My phone was unlocked and originally optus.
Debranding
I recently this something you want. I debranded my Note 4 taken from Orange România. My phone was locked and with a rom full of Orange blotware. I've downloaded the unbranded German rom, installed with Odin, and so far no problems. Knox counter it's 0x0, the new CSC it now the German unbranded. Nothing wrong happened. I don't know about carrier lock but I was not interested in that.
As long as it is the same model number there should be no problem. But carrier lock will still be there. Good luck

[HELP] firmware selection? and OTA updates

Hey,
i hope you guys can help me because im drowning with information here...
to make along story short.. i bought 2 p8 lite from germany few months ago... both was working great.
one of them fell into water and got damaged...
to fix it, i bought "new" mainboard also from germany. when i assembled it i discovered that its branded (vodafone).
it loads much slower then the other unbranded phone, and the much more disturbing issue is that almost none of the sensors are functioning (proximity, accelerometer, gyro) and second sim is disabled.
as far as i know is not a hardware malfunction, and i think that maybe it can be fixed by flashing new firmware.
the current version of the board is ALE-L21C02B130
i wanted to ask few things:
1. how can i know with version is suitable to my phone now (i want to unbrand it and to enable second sim)
2. once i flash it with other firmware will i be able to get OTA updates
thanks for helping

replace Korean Samsung S8 (SM-G950N) stock ROM with another one from Spain.

Hi All,
Please excuse me in case this was already adressed in other post.
Case: I bought in South Korea a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950N) Exynos version. Im very happy with the phone but there are a few diferences between this one and the spanish version of the phone. For example, since in Korea apparently is not legal to silence the shutter of the camera there is no option in the phone to remove this sound. Other things are for example the apps that by default are installed in the phone. In my case the carrier is KT and I have a ton of apps that I cannot use or Im not interested.
Questions:
Q1.- Is there a possibility to install the samsung stock rom for the S8 clean (from Spain for example) and get rid of all this crap and at the same time maintain all warranty and Updates as any other "not modified" phone?
Q2.- Will the software change once i insert the SIM car from my spanish carrier showing me option available in the S8 spanish software version that i cannot see now from the Korean version?
Q3.- can I use a baseband from any other carrier and if not is there compatible basebands with my phone?
any help will be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

I have a Korean phone (g950N) and have done everything that you want to it EXCEPT my warranty is void. Initially, I rooted the phone and flashed a different stock ROM. Since then, I've flashed a custom ROM (Renovate-ice) as it gives me far more options and flexibility. During the installation, you can choose the country you want and it will add all the relevant software and frequencies etc.

AFAIK you will not get to the result you want, as long as you don't want to void your warranty (knox 0x1).
Flashing a g950F Firmware on a g950N device will lead to a not booting phone.

Also, no. Your CSC won't change when inserting a different SIM.
As to the third question, I can't answer.
But if you would be willing to void your warranty, you of course can change the csc to a spain one, get all the spain carrier bloatware and can deactivate the shutter sound.
voLTE ISSUE
I am facing a similar problem.
i bought a galaxy s8 (SM-G950n) from south korea. But here, in india, i can't use voLTE. i can use LTE and other band at ease except voLTE. Then googled and found that indian csc code installation may help. But the problem is that the phone i have is single sim and the indian model has dual sim. If i flash the indian stock rom will it brick? If it bricks i can't gp back to south korea to resolve that. i contacted the korean samsung service but their help didn't work.
Give me a strong solution.

Flash SM-M307FN software on SM-M3070

Hey Guys,
So I just bought a M30s today and after installing Samsung Smart Switch I saw there was a software update available. Whoopee.
Well after updating everything was in chinese and the phone no longer had google apps. From the sticker on the box I can see it is a SM-M3070 model - chinese market if I'm not mistaken.
So the history is:
- I bought the phone in Romania
- It had google apps and everything out of the box
- it's a SM-M3070 model
The question is:
- Can I flash SM-307FN software on it? e.g. for Germany (PDA M307FNXXU2ASL2 and CSC M307FNOXM2ASL1)?
Please help...I'm freaking out because I just bought it and now it's unusable for me.

Maybe you should ask this guy how it ended
you can't
