Hi,
I have a Sprint L720 (Baseband: L720VPUFNG2) phone. How can I tell if my bootloader is unlocked or not? I read a number of posts here on XDA and unfortunately could not find an answer that was relevant to my case.
Is there any way to get the bootloader information for my L720? Could someone outline the steps how to get that information (locked/unlocked)?
thanks!!

Thanks so much!!!
I am thinking on rooting my L720 and read on Chainfire's page that if bootloader is locked then the root might brick the device and just wanted to double confirm my bootloader is unlocked...
Thanks again,
only VZW is locked

Hi..
I just order an Unlocked Motorola Atrix 4G from Amazon.... They says it's unlocked and I can use any carrier (AT&T or T-Mobile or any GSM Carrier).. But my question is do that phone has unlocked Boot Loader too.
Amazon ship with that phone with Android 2.2 on it and i want to Put custom ROM on it...
Can any one guide me to Find out what should i do first...
How to find out bootloader is unlocked or not... and how to flash CM7 on it.?
No phone EVER comes stock with an unlocked BL, unless it's specifically designed to be a development phone.
Also, why do people always confuse bootloader lock and SIM/carrier lock?
Thank You

Both I think. My Atrix came unlocked, but I had to root and unlock the bootloader.

You can root without unlocking the bootloader, but you need to unlock it to flash custom ROMs.
Hi all, this may be a stupid question, but being as the att S4 has the locked bootloader, is it possible to flash the att S4 with tmobile software/firmware via odin and then unlock the phone to be used on any carrier? Or can this not be done because of the boot loader? Thanks in advance!!

When using a rom from another Galaxy S4 Variant, you cannot flash 1. The modem/radio/baseband 2. The bootloader (PRL, SRL, ABOOT...)
Also if your device's bootloader is locked, it's likely that you cannot swap the Kernel either.
According to some people however, the Modem can however be swapped IF you are using the same base model (example SGH-I1337 modem can in theory be swapped with its SGH-I337M variant). I however have not tested this myself so you will have to make sure of it before trying.
Keep in mind that on Qualcomm revisions, the baseband is actually the very first link to the chain of trust so messing with it can potentially brick your phone.

I will, I was just curious if that was a possibility. Thanks for your responses.
I was wondering, is there a locked boot loader on the Rogers Samsung Galaxy S4 (Canadian Version)?
I am wondering this because if I go to root my phone, it could brick it, and I wouldn't like that....
So, please help. Thanks.

to the best of my knowledge, it is the ATT version that has the locked bootie. You should be able to easily root your device using this file.
good luck!

Okay, I was just wondering because if i do root my phone, and it has a boot loader, then it will possibly brick it.
I also just want to make sure that there isn't a boot loader, so if anyone else has any knowledge, please post below. Thanks!

Well all phones have to have a bootloader. But I337m, which is the Canadian version, definitely has an unlocked bootloader. So you will not get any issues with CF Auto Root or anything.

Okay, good. Now I just have to make sure I have the correct CF Auto Root for this phone, which is SGH-I337m.
OMG!!!! After tons of reading for a way to check if my Bootloader is locked. I have gotten no result except to use safstrap for bootloader stuff or what not. I just want a straight answer to my question/s. A post should also be sticky about this.
My Phone BASEBAND is I337UCUAMF3
1.How do I know if my bootloader is unlocked or locked. When I go into download mode, will it say like bootloader=locked/unlocked or so.
2.If its locked. How do i unlock it. Secure or non secure. Just wanna install CWM/TWRP Recovery with updates straight from there site without a need for modification like safestrap. Wanna install custom roms A.S.A.P

Any AT&T I337 that's MF3, MK2, or NB1 has a locked bootloader so don't bother checking. So far there is no exploit, Devs are working on it and when they crack it it will be all over the S4 threads. Safe strap is the only way to run custom roms. Don't try to flash a custom recovery.

Thanks a lot for your speedy reply. So upgrading my Baseband to something else wont change the bootloader locked? I am also guessing every AT&T S4 comes bootloader locked then... In other words, would it be best i get my i9500 back since i don't have to worry about bootloader locked and brick and all that stuff that's currently making my i337 useless.
Yes every AT&T is locked, get your i9500 back.

Thanks a million. Now that was easy and straight forward. Someone should create a sticky thread of this topic with it close so no replies. Damn. Information was so hard to get but many thanks to you. It was a breeze.

Hey all.
I've a question. In GT-i9500, is there the need to unlock bootloader as in Motorola devices before flashing custom ROMs. Or it comes with it's bootloader pre-unlocked?
Would be very glad on your response
Thank You!

in I9500 we can update bootloader and go back to old without problems and we can flash roms without need to unlock
Verizon and AT&T devices usually have locked bootloaders. Everything else should be unlocked.

Then we should first of all unlock bootloader before flashing roms?
Unless the S4 is a US model sold by AT&T or Verizon, which yours isn't, the bootloader will be unlocked. That means being able to update the bootloader, radio, and installing custom ROMs, as previously stated. Keep in mind the following: Samsung does not use fastboot, thus any commands you could use on a Motorola device will not work on a Samsung device. You will have to use Odin.

I-9500 came with factory unlocked bootloader.
If your phone really is i-9500 as you said,
install the custom recovery like TWPR or CWM via odin and
flash the custom rom of your choice via the custom recovery.

Ok thanks
l have a question if my i9500 says secure download enabled does that mean its bootloader locked +++
Asked and answered already in this thread. Unless your S4 is an SGH-I337 or SCH-I545 (AT&T and Verizon respectively) your bootloader will not be locked.
