Audio Effects?? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I have made changes to Settings > Sound > Audio Effects for both wired and speaker and have yet to notice any difference regardless of the changes I make. Even when I make extreme changes just to see an effect I get nothing. Has anyone been able to get a noticeable change my modifying these settings?
Thanks.

Bump... Anyone?

It's a Motorola issue. I had a Moto X Gen 2 and the EQ settings didn't work.

Anyone want to recommend a couple of good equalizer apps?

And which ones work via Bluetooth, everything I've tried no dice, really miss viper, the sound was amazing in my mazda cx5, now it's so so at best

I've experimented with various EQ apps and the one I really like is called Equilizer FX. It doesn't switch/reset the last profile used and I like the profile settings and effects.

Thanks! I'll give it a go... Update: Works perfectly! And it integrates with Settings > Sound, unlike the others I have tried. I'll test it in the car on my way home and, if I continue to like it, I'll pay the $.99 to support the dev.

I use Rocket Player. It doesn't equalize all audio but it works very, very well for me when I listen to music. If you pay for the premium version you get a 12 band equalizer which is nice

I use Equalizer by Smart Android LLC. I dig the interface and like that it can auto select a preset based on the song you're listening to. If you get the paid version it can even auto select from streaming services.

Viper was the best. Wondering if any ex-Viper users have found any non root apps that they would approve of. Hopefully there's something out there that comes close to Viper.

I tried equaliser fx, liked that it replaced the stock audio effects in settings, it works ok, going to try a few more, really really miss viper!

I never really understood equalizer settings. Not sure what all the Hz's and dB's mean. Does anyone have a custom preset that would be similar to Viper's Treble Booster profile?

I get the differences loud and clear when I move it around.

It's simple. Db is decibels which associates to volume or amount you put to the frequency. Hz from lowest number is bass but once you get to the 100hz it's more mid range bass then khz is thousands of hz so like 10khz is 10,000 hz so that's treble for example

You and me both!!! Viper is/was AWESOME!

Please check in if you find any others that are good. Equalizer FX seems pretty good, but some of the settings don't seem to stick for me. I paid the $.99 to support the dev after I tried the free version, but I think the free version actually may work better than the paid version.

Not only does the FX app have the ability to increase onboard speaker volume it is also an excellent audio tweaking app with equaliser etc.

Now that the installation of Viper is much simpler than when it originally came out, I do prefer it to other audio mods. :good:

Yea, it just installs as an app and when you open it, it installs the drivers itself. Being able to increase onboard speaker volume is a big plus for me too.
Oh awesome. I never was able to get it working before because of how complicated the mod was. If it is that easy now then I will be switching to it.

I installed it on my phone and it was saying that I didn't have Busybox installed, but I did. I got round it by installing the previous version of Busybox. Don't know what that was about but just a heads up for you.
Nice find! Thanks.
I've tried a few eq apps and mods and the improvements were marginal or worse. I'll give this a shot.
Unfortunately I do not see an option to enhance the speaker output after installing the Xhifi version (only for Headset and Bluetooth). So it looks like I am back to King BeatZ since I mainly use the speakers for things.
You need to install the FX version, not the xhifi one. Xhifi is only for headphones and hands-free device.
After installing the FX audio mod make sure to set it to compatibility mode if you don't notice any difference, at first.
Hope this helps!
Ya but I dont want the FX. That is mainly for as it says, FX on the audio. It does not try to restore lost audio quality from compression and such.

Viper4Android settings?

I just installed this and it looks very cool, but it's pretty overwhelming. Any suggestions for which .IRS files work well with headset, speaker, and bluetooth headset? For bluetooth headset I've also got my regular mono one for phone calls, and I have a stereo bluetooth one from Jaybird so I'd assume they use different settings. Speaking of, what do you guys put the settings at as well.
I looked a bit at the Viper4android thread, but it's like 700 pages long.
Before you get you A$$ handed to you for not following the rules i will spare you the moment of humility and provide you with this since i was stuck in the same situation you were but simply went to google and entered "Viper4android settings" and stumbled upon this which HELPED me!!!!!

Oh, I didn't realize I was breaking a rule. You mean we can't discuss optimal settings for an app for our phones? The only rule I see that might be loosely tied is using search, but I have searched. I have searched and am aware of the main 700 page thread, and also the English viper website, none of these have users discussing the G2 specifically. I'd rather avoid that 700+ page thread since I am specifically asking about the G2 in the G2 forums and what settings work well for others.
Just to repeat, I'm not looking on how to get the program to run or install it, I am looking for other G2 owners feedback on which particular modes worked well for them. I thought it might be a nice discussion.
If I'm breaking the rules please delete my thread then, my apologies.
Moving on..
I don't use the bluetooth headset so I can't help you on that.
But for the headset, I realised that using the xHifi setting under clarity gives quite a little whitenoise. But not using makes your music sound muffled , so I guess it's a trade off(unless you know how to configure the IRS files). I am using my mid range sennheiser CX-300II without any IRS filters, cos none of them work well. You could try loading everything into the folder and going through them 1 by 1, or even making the file which is rather tedious. I couldn't be bothered, the playbackgain control and dynamic system is enough for me.
If you plug your phone into powerful speakers (I have a bose 321 but damn those things make the windows shake) you MUST turn off the VIPER bass and reduce the dynamic bass to ~15%. Differential surround(Haas effect) makes the sound sound off center on speakers so avoid it.
I noticed G2 doesn't have music effect setting, am i suppose to assume that viper is on?
No it's not that simple. What I did was:
1. Install the drivers
2. Backup build.prop then change the lines specified in the main thread for Viper
3. Install google play(doesn't work on stock LG player for me)
3b. (unsure if really necessary) Disable stock LG player
4. Reboot
5. Wait for boot to complete and see all the superSU permission flashing...
6. Play something, then go into viper, enable the first option on the speaker tab and check the "driver status". It should say that it is installed/normal, that it is enabled and that it is processing. To really be sure go play around with the settings but be careful with the gain (don't ramp it sky high and drop your phone in shock)

I just installed the app and it does all the necessary things for you. But still, Viper4Android sucks for our phone. The driver it installs significantly lowers the audio quality. With a huge amount of tweaking you can finally get the quality back up to where the G2 is at stock. Everyone is better off not using this mod for the G2 unless the author gets a much better audio driver designed for our chipset
check out the V4A audio profiles... it gives a great shares from people on settings... try them and check out the one you prefer

Yeah I don't know how happy I am with this app yet. I can get stuff louder, but I hear more distortion, but I have to play around a bit. One odd thing is that different things have different volumes after installing this. For example, my speaker phone when in a call is nice and loud, but when checking voicemail it is very quiet, kind of odd and I can't figure out how to selectively fix these things so I may be forced to uninstall.

I think you guys really don't know what you're taking about. The clarity viper adds to the sound on both my stereo and my headphones is absolutely unreal. After having set up viper, I think the biggest flaw of a stock g2 might be the dull und muffled sound it transfers to proper speakers.

Think what you want but the drivers this uses noticeably took away from clarity in all aspects of the sound. Every speaker setup can sound different so maybe this type of sound just works better for you, my high end systems though it definitely takes a lot away from the audio

neither am I nore do I have a high end soundsystem so I don't notice the difference to the worse. Who listens to anything on a high end soundsystem through a phone?
On my dynavoice speakers and my b&w headphones my music gets several different new dimensions using viper, regardless of the code of the driver.
Edit: of course every setup and every set of ears gets different subjective results. But it's so obvious that the sound is so much better with viper

This is my headphones profile. I haven't set up one for the phone speakers. It's a modified copy of something I found somewhere on xda. I guess you can just create a headphone profile yourself and then copy in the following text instead of what it says in your backed up profile. But I'm not sure if that will work or if it will destroy your phone and kill your family. You will find your profiles (once they are backed up) under storage/emulated/0/viper4android/profile. This works on my headphones and with my ears, that doesn't mean it will work for you. Here it goes:

Just install Power Amp or similar and play with the equaliser. You'll find it eventually but, in looking, I'm sure you'll find settings that sound far better (unless you're tone deaf of course).
Can anyone assist? Any luck with installing bass beats on LG G2 from package or running system, instead of having it installed with system ?
Any news here ?
If you are rooted the best sound mod I have personally seen is Viper4Android... Amazing software that gives you the ability to adjust just as you want ....
If you aren't rooted then the only option you have is to install another app like Poweramp or another music player with built in good equalizer

this.
in the audio world, Bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. They make high quality, proprietary audio equipment that's not compatible with other systems, and that is extremely overpriced. Their headphones and speakers are quality products, but you pay way too much for them.
Monster Cable makes overpriced audio cables. They are quality cables, but often needlessly so. there's absolutely no reason to buy a $100 hdmi cable. ever.
Beats by Dre is a combination of the two. Their headphones and speakers are of medium quality, tuned for deafening bass and terrible mids and highs, and sold at Bose prices. Their HTC Boom Sound software crap adjusts your phone's sound profile to match their ****ty headphones.
I would consider going deaf before using any Beats products.

Regarding viper 4 sound, I have no experience. however if the software requires root you may need to ensure the app is approved for root access in SuperUser or SuperSU. otherwise it will not have root access and will not be able to make any changes to the android system (ie it won't work)

I don't have that option. When I install V4A and Beats the standard music player on LG G2 with 4.4.2 activates it and it works.
Power Amp on LG G2 does not. I guess this is how I should start this thread but I just realised now. When I was using power amp on HTC with beats I had a button for Beats and SRS. No such thing in kit Kat for LG...
Is there a file or option in Android that I could modify and add power amp as a player ? The system must know when to activate sound processing when a music or movie player starts, but power amp does not activate it/is not on that list I guess...
Viper4android is actually a universal sound mod
So if it is activated any sound coming out of the phone will be altered by it , be it music or youtube video or anything else for that matter..
But since poweramp has its own equalizer you'll have to disable that and select viper4a in MusicFX in Tone/vol section
Btw which rom are you on? Because it worked for me on stock and cloudyflex but not on mahdi (viper4a doesnt affect poweramp)

Any built in EQ for Bluetooth?

The BlackPlayer EX does comes with it's own.
Hell I don't know what you really looking for then lol..
But It works great for me...

When I hooked for EQ in Google play music, I had no EQ. When I downloaded one, the option came up. I'm on T-Mobile. Maybe some carriers come with a prebuilt one.

As the title states. This is the first phone I've used that had no sound adjustments for my BT headphones. In fact, is there any adjustment for wired? I only see DAC on/off.

You probably won't find anything specifically for your BT headphones. But may find and EQ in a player app.

For us on T-Mobile......try Napster for streaming.
There's an EQ inside the app its self.
Works great for me.
Currently Napster is having issues with the extra bass bar staying on, but the rest of the EQ works great for me.

Not on Google play. Only in Napster.
Google play doesn't offer a built-in EQ for its self.
You'll have to double up on apps for Google play to have an EQ.
But I have yet to find a user friendly EQ app that can over lap with a player app.
Only other option is to find player apps that have built-in EQ.

Best equalizer for the LG G6? (No root)

Hi guys, i just got a lg g6 and discovered it doesnt has a native equalizer. What is a good equalizer to download and use with the G6 without rooting it. I download the "equalizer pro" from google play, it looks to work (even has amp) but i wonder if there's something better.

I'm in the same boat. It's disappointing LG doesn't' include a native or global equalizer. It's hit or miss trying to find one that works and not cutting out and quit working. I have troubles with them on my Nexus 7 and the HTC One M7 i used to have. The 3rd party one's aren't always reliable. and definitely don't sound as good as poweramp. I cam from a Galaxy S7 and it had a nice EQ app on it. It's a shame samsung has all curved screens. I would go back to Samsung because of the EQ, great selection of themes for the native theme app, and a more reliable camera.

Try the Equalizer from the "Smart Android Apps, LLC". It's on the google play. It looks to work well here. Buy the unlocked version and try out. If you don't like, just refund it. Come back later with the results. I'm enjoying it

That's the one of ones that won't work on my Nexus 7 anymore. When I used it on the one m7 it only worked half the time. I didn't bother with it on the G6.

That's what I have now on my tablet. I haven't played streaming music lately so I can't remember if it works. I got the pro version free in the store. Usually pro versions aren't free.

From dvednua?
I switched recently from VLC to Poweramp pro. Well worth the $3.99 imho. That is, if you want a media player as well. The equalizer is ten band and has a powerful preamp and bass/treble boost . The sound over bluetooth with the built in aptX HD is excellent, I thought VLC was good but Poweramp blows it away. Plus it doesn't have much of an impact on the battery when playing music in the car.

I second this post on both accounts.
The V4A driver won't install without root.

Works also for me and has no always on notification (only during playing music). I needed to disable "Global audio output mix" to get it running after reboot.
I'm still hesitate to root to install Viper4Android (that I usually use on my other devices). Except I want to know before if root disable the OTA of the system.
Best so far with no root
Try this app... Works system wide... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wiseschematics.reeq01

I just downloaded the app from mediafire and unzipped the file. It installed then automatically updated the app. I have a Verizon G6, so maybe that is the difference. I also have my developer options turned on. I wish I could give you more information, but I am not that technically proficient with Android.
Update..
Tried it again and it would not update without root access. The program loads but doesn't work. Sorry, should have tried before posting.
Just stumbled across this, i dont know if you're still looking for it, but I've found that the Cyanogen Audio FX works just fine for most applications. You can get it without root via the Appstore, there's an app called "Cyanogen Apps", which offers you every Cyanogen Specific app to download and install. It is 100% safe and I've used it on many phones so far without root. One downside however is that it sometimes takes a while to catch up if you switch songs manually. Also, you will need to fiddle a bit with your battery saver settings as they are likely to kill the app when it is idle for a short amount of time (which happens after switching manually). It offers great bass boost settings as well as a virtualizer (which im not a fan of) and basic controls, i. E. 5 frequency settings, similar to the built in equalizer which only works for the native music app. Sound quality stays similar and unless you are using 600 dollar studio equipment, you will not hear a drop in quality.
