i was thinking of getting this nexus player but my question is how do i test my android app on the nexus player?
Sideload it.
Install ES File Explorer from Google Play, open ES, connect / browse to network location of apk and install. See what happens.
I was able to sideload many apps so far, some work, some dont.

You need to go into settings to see it as it does not show up on main window on the player.
So far not impressed with nexus player. Plex ap requires you to run from desktop before you can use app. My roku 3 runs from the app only need server running.
Sorry to get off topic.

I've been working on some stuff all day. I was able to get the Developer option to show up like any other Nexus device. Go to the About > Scroll down to build > Click the Select button repeatedly until dev options are unlocked. Reboot player by removing power. Dev options will now show up in the menu, under preferences. Select Dev Options, go down to USB Debugging, turn on. Lastly, go back to the Security & Restrictions option and turn on Unknown Sources.
From there with the Nexus player connected to your PC, 'adb install your-package-name.apk' via fastboot options.
Currently have Kodi (XMBC) 14.0 Beta 1 working on it.
Let me know how well it runs xbmc. I was thinking about getting the NP but was holding off because I wanted to make sure that it can be rooted or have apps installed that weren't meant to be on it.

That's sad to hear. I'm betting tho when the xbmc/kodi developers fine tune it it'll run better. I was hoping to replace my raspberry pi, usb hub, 2 external hard drives and 2 power supplies with the Nexus player.

Lollipop is brand new... it'll take a while for most apps to be updated for the new APIs, just like any other major release of android. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware on the Nexus Player... its simply a brand new OS that most apps haven't been updated for. The current situation is no different on the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and any other phone updated to Lollipop.

So far, damn decent. I am using SMB connection for my movies and played with no errors. The 14 Beta 2 on the other hand I had some playback issues.

I apologize if this has come up before, I did search and didn't find anything. I'm looking for a tool that I can remotely control my phone via my windows desktop. I use my phone all day at work listening to music, etc...
I've downloaded the latest release of screencast, and am able to see my phones screen, but no keyboard/mouse input is working so I still have to control the phone from the screen on the phone.
It appears that other people are having the same issue with this app. Anyone got the screencast app working properly on the vibrant or have any other suggestions for different apps?
Thanks,
Jeremiah
What do you mean you downloaded the lastest version of Screencast? I dont see an app called Screencast in the market, only an app that accesses ScreenCast Online videos called ScreenCastsOnline.

Yep, device is rooted, other people are having the same issue. there are some work arounds other's are using, but didn't work for me. I just tried out vnc server for android and that worked ok, but no landscape mode. And I have to wake up my phone from the screen after it went out to be able to do anything with it, which defeats the purpose for me.
I guess I'll keep searching, the vncserver for android is pretty sweet though.
Been trying to get this, and droid explorer to work all day, with very little luck :/
Any idea if there is anything I can do about this?
I could describe the problem, but the pictures attached do a better job!!
NB: The Last picture shows the on-screen controls are not corrupted, just the video.
BTW... Netflix support were hopeless..

I had the exact same issue and with trying multiple ROMS, the only one that worked was an old one. It is software-build related.
The build that worked for me was "update_mk808b_400j1401" I found via one of these links that the eBay seller sent me:
1) http://www.mk808.com/MK808/en/Download.html
2) http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/firmware-download/
I used flashing software found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070390
It works great, but not their latest Android Build...
I did have issues trying to find Android Phone software working with this device build, but LANmote is a pretty good solution, and the only one I could get to work. I tried like 4 paid versions of apps for this stick, and this is the only one I got to work... Most services(/servers on the machine?) didn't want to start and/or function with this build.
I was thinking about buying another ROKU, but for 1/2 the price and a full-featured Android PC for half the price of a ROKU, I knew what the better choice was!
("Android phone" remote control "android touchpad" tablet control "use android phone for HTPC stick control" MK808B)
Is this build I referenced working for you?
I got sick of the antiquated interface, and tried a build for 1080p...
Works GREAT, until I was streaming Netflix for a while and the screen just went black.
Maybe I will try a finless ROM.
Hi,
I tried finless 1.7, and it works great! An older version of JB, but that's fine, I can live with that!
Thanks for the help.

I have 2 on the way, should arrive by May 2, and I will let you know how those $4.99 10/100 dongles work...
Some guy in the UK bought them for his, and this looks like the same ones, but I will verify before dropping a link to the adapter, as this is public.
I got the 10/100 dongle and it worked OOTB, after enabling in settings, no config, just plugged it in enabled Ethernet, and it pulled HDCP from Cat5.
Here is a link if anyone wants a wired connection: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350766060467
$4.99
I did have some lag in streaming, but this even happens on Netflix via my Roku sometimes, even with my 50Mbps/25Mbps pipe.
BTW I have been running "Stock plus goodies" from here on XDA, and it has been pretty stable...

Hi,
I have same problem with netflix. I bought this device only for netflix and youtube (because Samsung Smart TV is a sucks). My device is a android 4.2. I did read here and on others sites about this problema and the solution is install android 4.1. With your links a found this instructions on this link:
http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.ph...pc-new-factory-firmware-release/#.Ua4K5EBwrqU
I downloaded the files "update_mk808b_400j1401", drivers and flashing software.
I can't perform these instructions because my PC doesn't recognize the device. I have a Windows 7 x64. I plug my device into my PC and nothing happens. On some posts I did read that is necessary to use Windows XP. Oh god, I don't believe this!
I need a help to solve this problem. Can you post to me a way to install this 4.1 rom on my device, step by step, the way you solved on your device?
I tryed to install a oldest versions of netflix, but the problem did not solved. I like very much that device with a 4.2, I would like to keep this version. Is there a fix of Android 4.2 of MK808B to solve this problem? Do you know?
Thanks!

This netflix apk version is the prove that the problem is on the netflix app and not the Android. I will send an email to Netflix about this problem, let me see what they will answer...
Thanks everybody!

It's a somewhat complex process, but there are step by step instructions in the readme file included with the finless ROMs. I found that getting the drivers installed was the hardest part. I also found that using the reset switch was easier if I opened the case.

There is a small bug we are fixing. If the Fire TV was not found in the first scan, we don't look for it until user clicks on the Spark extension button on the top right corner of the browser window.
Try clicking on the button as a work around for now. In the mean time we will fix the problem.
Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

You should have a settings option where we can manually enter the FireTV's IP address instead of searching for it

If u can fix the lag so that the sound is in sync this would be GREAT. so that i can use my Sweeet sound system with this . but so far so good.. the chrome plugin wont "fling" netflix
Edit: can u also make it so it Mirrors in 1920x1080 or higher?

Doesn't find my Fire TV
The windows desktop app doesn't find the Fire TV.
I've tried putting both the laptop and the FTV on 5 GHz, then both on 2.4 GHz, still nothing. I even disabled the firewall. The Chrome plugin doesn't find it either.
I was able to sideload other apps so far even when the laptop was on 2.4GHz and the FTV on 5GHz.
If you add the ability to insert the FTV IP manually that would be great.

Sure. Great suggestion. We will add the "extreme" quality setting that will be full 1080p. Please do check later in the week for updated app.
Also, we are constantly trying to improve AV sync. Its a hard problem to solve. Trying our best

Definitely. Adding the ability to add FireTV IP address is 1st priority right now. Should be there later this week.
My guess is something is blocking the port on which Spark app communicates i.e. TCP port 8990 is blocked.
Any Antivirus or firewall installed on the computer? I personally had bitter experiences with Norton and Adaware.

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem is Chrome won't allow us to add a way to do that.
However, you can easily disable the extension by
1. Right clicking on the Spark icon
2. Click 'Manage' in the pop-up
3. Un-check the box in front of the Spark extension marked "Enabled"
This should disable the Spark extension.
To enable the extension back
1. Click on the right top corner of Chrome where all menu options are located.
2. Click Settings
3. Click Extensions
4. Check the box in front of Spark extension marked "Enabled"
Hope this helps.
Great concept! I love the seamless install!
I have it working on my Windows 8 machine using the desktop mirror app. I get about a 3 second lag between PC actions and it showing up on the screen.
I cannot get the chrome extension to work. When I click the icon, it says "no available devices"
Any chance of releasing a Linux version of the installer? Or just the .apk so we can sideload ourselves?

Sure. Here is a link to the page on how to side load using ADB.
http://www.sparkup.tv/manual-apk-install
The Spark Chrome browser extension works in Ubuntu 12.04.
Do let us know if you think of anything else.
I am unable to find my FireTV. Is it likely because my laptop is wireless and my FTV is wired? If so, would sideloading the APK allow it to connect across the wireless/wired networks?
Thanks!
Your devices must be in the same subnet. Nothing more. No matter they are wired or wireless.

Thanks. Almost all problems on Windows are because of Firewalls or Anti virus programs blocking ports.
Try disabling the programs that can possibly block ports. Spark operates on TCP port 8990.
We are working hard on reducing the lag. Thanks again for the feedback.
So with the FireTV becoming quite popular and everyone modding & customizing them left and right.
Curious to see what some of you guys have done in regards to Addons for Videos etc.. I've had a Apple TV before but kept the XBMC install quite basic and basically just used 1channel and sometimes IceFilms if I was encountering errors.
Over the last couple of weeks I've setup 2 FireTVs and gone a bit further into customizing it. I've loaded on the usual IceFilms,1channel, SportsDevil, NaviX, XBMC Addon Installer. Also, loaded up XBMC Tweaks for FTV that gives me keyMap3, sleep mode on XBMC, installed time changer to reflect the right time on XBMC as FTV is not officially out yet where I am. Also, using Xposed and rbox module to auto launch XBMC.
So, what are some other addons you guys recommend? Just looking for some unique ideas!
In addition to the ones you mentioned I use mashup, xbmctorrent and p2pstreams.
Droidmote is my favorite thing that I've installed recently. For the rare times that I need a mouse to tick a checkbox or click a button, I can just use my phone as a touchpad.

I have to check that out. I found an old wireless mouse I plugged into my Fire TV for now. I want to get something similar to the Flymote I use for the MX2 android box.
So I loaded on FTV Guide and I'm quite impressed with this addons it actually has tons of channels and most of them work.. however.
I am seeing that some channels I click on I can only choose the 'Remind' option and it doesn't actually load the channel.
Whats up with this? Can anyone let me know? Anything like SkyMoviesHD, Sky Sports, TBS etc.. just don't seem to actually do anything
I had the incompatible problem with almost EVERY addon when I recently did a fresh install of xbmc. I fixed it by doing a force refresh of the repository (use context menu on the enabled addon page and click refresh/update) . I waited about 10 mins, played some Quell and came back and then about 90% of the skins/addons are compatible now.
I tried mashup but most of the channels that loaded were SD and didn't work well. 1channel is great for movies/shows. Had almost everything I looked for it.
Anyone try Pluto.TV on the regular fire launcher? It is pretty awesome. It has about 50 channels of its own content. The guide looks very similar to something a cable company would put out and they have a good range of different genres

Pluto tv is on the actual amazon app store that works on the fireTV without root or anything else. Its a APP meant for it.
The App itself is alright, wish I could make the F.T.V Guide work with all channels I'd rather have that

So now that 5.1 offers a restart function without physically unplugging, is there anyone up to the task of making an app that allows one to do this from the launcher screen? Don't know why Google decided to bury it.
I ask because every few days it drops my USB ethernet and the only way to get it back is to restart. My wife and daughter use it a lot so I'd like something a little more family friendly..
Thanks..

I'm still on 5.0 sorry

Just making sure... is your Android 5.1 platform Rooted?
EDIT: Btw, I have been using this shortcut app from the Leanback launcher to reboot LP 5.1 (rooted), but the icon and popup with the boot options don't look as nice as the ones in the app from the Play Store.
It works for me on stock rooted 5.1

Same here.... I just installed it and tested it on stock rooted 5.1
TV Boot works perfectly on my (stock) rooted Nexus Player with Android 5.1.

Updated SU binaries and reboot is now workingâș, however no go with power off.
It's actually a good thing that TV Boot's shut down function isn't enabled. If you use another reboot app like PhongIT's Quick Reboot to "shut down" the Nexus Player, it goes in to a completely unresponsive state until you power cycle it. You're better off letting the device go into its daydream and sleep modes on its own.
I'm still on 5.0 rooted and I'm doing this from my smartphone using Tasker and Auotoremote (lite): with a widget on my smartphone I call a Tasker task which send an autoremote message to my NP; here Tasker intercept the message and restart the NP; I also have a task for only power down the NP; I will also try managing volume in the same way, but I don't know if it will work ...
I made an open source app called reboot is here on xda can't link to it right now but if you look at the threads I've made you'll find it. It works so far so good. I'm thinking about combining that with the open source home launcher app. When I get some time.
