From original Note to Note 3

I'd like to know the opinion of people who jumped from the original to Note 3. I'm considering buying one, but I also think I have at least two or more years of perfectly acceptable usage left in my original. Or am I thinking that just because I haven't tried 3 yet?

I too came from original Note 1.0 to 3.0
3.0 has so much more feature than the original 1.0

I came from the original to this new one.
Difference, IMO, was night and day. I would barely, BARELY get a full day of use out of my battery on light usage. I.E. if I did even moderate use throughout the day, it was close to being dead before dinner. And I did complete discharges then full charges once or twice a month to try to keep the battery good. With the new note, I get MORE usage than the original, meaning increased screen on time, increased usage of things like BT, and it seems to last well into the next day. I would say it at least feels like double the usage time on increased usage.
The spen has become a completely differnet tool as well from the original, at least to me. I find I pop it out far more than I used to, whether its to use action memo + popup apps, or simply to navigate around websites quicker. And spen + multiwindow is a dream. Drag and drop works like a hot damn, and while not 100% of the apps support multiwindow, alot of the basic daily driver apps do (web browsing, texting, etc).
I had my original note for a little over 1.5 years, and was extremely apprehensive about jumping on board with the Note 3, especially right out of the gate (I tend to try and wait a while, see if there where any problems or hiccups with the initial release). And I can tell you with 100% certainty, I am NOT regretting it for a second.
Do your research however. Find out what people are having issues with, so you can make sure you don't get a bunky handset. I did some testing right away, and found none of the issues others where dealing with (handwriting keyboard locking up, reducing the screen for one-handed use, etc). While I will admit there seem to be a lot of handsets with wierd quirks on them, if you end up with a solid model, you will be extremely happy.
But remember, everyone is different, and everyone feels different benefits or problems have their own weight. I've seen people complain so much about audio from this device as to seem like they would trade it in for an alternate phone. I LOVE the external speaker. It's a lot louder than the original, and that makes me happy. Other people, not so much.
I hope you get a chance to try one, with the ability to take it back if you are actually not happy with it. GL!

My note 1 was falling apart on me and I had been waiting for the note 3 for about 8 months. The first thing I will say is hands down better battery life. Awesome screen, speakers, response, and a whole lot smarter. S Pen is a lot better to but that's not really my thing.
I would say get it but if you can wait a few months then wait because I'm sure the price will drop by at least $50.
All around very happy with my note 3.

I just made the jump from the original to the note 3 as well. I love it! As some of the others said, I get better battery life and the S Pen features are great.
My advice - is to learn all of the S-features first before deciding not to bother with them. That way you know what the phone is capable of, instead of finding out 6 months down the road that one of the features was something you would have been using every day.
Also... It took a while to get used to removing the S Pen. I don't have much for fingernails, and that made it a little bit harder to remove the S Pen than the original note (at least for me).

I gothad the note for a long time, then moved to the s4 briefly & then onto the note 3.
Frankly, the n1 isn't outdated. Screen resolution is pretty high.
Ram & processor more than adequate for n1 usage.
Yes the n3 is a million times better but you can easily buy two batteries to use throughout the day (by charging them both on a dock charger). Which is what I did with the n1.
I got a second battery for the n3 but I haven't needed to use it.
Is it just because my battery is brand new or does the n3 battery have abnormally good life?

I did the upgrade from the Note 1 to the Note 3 and I am glad I did, Here is what I noticed
Good:
Much much faster. Note 1 was SLOW
Better screen, and easier to see in the sun
S-pen is more accurate.
Battery is exponentially better. My note 1 lasted a day if I was lucky and 3-4 hours with heavy use. Note 3 lasts me 2 days with heavy use.
Improved talk quality.
Much better camera
GPS acquires signal faster and rarely drops it where as the old phone dropped it every few minutes.
Headphone output quality is much improved.
Bad:
Much worse signal strength. I used to get 3-4 bars of 4G, and 3-4 of LTE at my house with the Note 1 and now I get 2-3 bars of 4G and only get 2 bars of LTE in my kitchen and none anywhere else in my house. There is also a very low signal area on my commute home and the Note 1 would hold a call through it where as the note 3 will drop it every time.
Bluetooth talk quality seems to be worse. Seems distorted on my end compared to the Note 1.
Overall I am happy with the new phone and I am very glad I got it. Hoping that the 2 issues I have with it are fixed in a firmware update.

I'm still on N7000 as well, and, thanks to SlimBean 4.3, I don't think there is any point in upgrading yet.
I would have upgraded to Note 3 if they released it with the 6.3" screen we saw on the Mega, but sadly they didn't, so not worth the upgrade.
I'm waiting maybe for the Note 4, or hopefully the Note 3 with the flexible screen, praying they make it bigger.

Surprised about battery usage, I'm down to 50% after a day, but I guess I'm not using it as much as you guys.
The issue about radio connection is worrisome.

Night and day difference here also. Some pluses for me:
Speed - Everything opens much faster. There's enough memory to keep apps in the background and immediately available when switching between them.
Spen - Some features are questionable since I find the pen a bit small for clicking but there is now some level of friction on the tip. It's still plastic sliding over glass but now it feels like the friction gives me a greater level of control for signing docs, notes, and drawing.
Battery Life - I can get over 24 hrs with moderate use (6 hrs screen time) and still have about 10% left over.
Multitasking - In addition to having apps available in the background, I can now do multiwindow and have two apps on screen. Some apps allow you to drag text and images between them. The floating windows are also available but with the way I use the device, pulling out the pen, clicking, and drawing the box take more time than using app tray.
IR blaster - I don't watch much TV but the Note 3 turns on my TV and cable box without me having to find the remote.
If the Note 1 is still working well for you then you can certainly stick with it. It was a great device but when the Note 3 came out I put old girl out to pasture. She sits on my desk now and tells me the time and weather.

From note1 to note2 was night and day. So from note1 to note3 is probably different months.

I would be glad to have note 3 as i use have all family note..i would be more glad if there were no issue with note 3 display..pink hue issue which mine suffer now..

You may want to wait before making the jump due to call distortion issue on some of these phones. I ordered two from Verizon, they replaced both, went to corporate store and tried two, so that is six with the same issue. Verizon said they had a ticket with Samsung but no exact date for the fix. I then called Samsung and they confirmed they were working the issue for Verizon but could get no indication as to when it would be resolved. It appears that Sprint which rolled out the phone before Verizon had a Samsung OTA to fix it a couple of days ago.

Just wanted to post an update to this..... I figured out my signal strength issue and my bluetooth issue. It was not the phone it was the case I had it in. The Incipio DualPro Shine case blocks signal on this phone. According to Network Signal Info app its 10 dBm of signal that it blocks. Once I took the phone out of the case It gets just as good of signal as my old Note 1 and my Wife's GS3
Bluetooth issue is a compatibility issue between the phone and my headset. I called the manufacturer for my headset and they said they are having compatibility issues with my headset when paired with the Note 3, the GS4

I waited for the note 3 as didn't see the point in note 2 for the extras it offered.
Anyway. ... Now 3 feels slimmer much better for one hand operation.
Much faster and fluid in use
Superb battery lasts the day with heavy use
Spen is at another level with the features
The multiwindow is propper multitasking... open as many apps at the same time just like your laptop
Screen is great outdoors. .. and very easy to see
Signal and call quality is improved.
Speaker is fine if you remember is a phone and not hifi system.
Camera quality during night is shiiiitty... That's the only downside for me.
Git it rooted running custom firmware and really customised it to my heart content.
Really enjoying the phone. It is the best that's of there for sure. .. and defo worth the upgrade.

Thanks for posting... As we can expect from AT, it was a more technically oriented review and had some of their usual good insights at the component level. Maybe the technical slant of their reviews colored the conclusion, but I felt the review didn't speak enough to the overall strength of the user experience. Not that it was a bad review - it definitely covered the quantitative aspects of the battery, screen, camera and SOC performance - but I think what was missing was balancing that against the experience of actually using the Moto X as a phone.
My plan is to jump on one in another month or two after my current contract expires, so for me there's time to wait for more reviews from actual users to get a true picture.

I tend to agree with you. It is easy to criticize someone on the choices they make but you have to appreciate the effort that they have put in. They may not have made the best android phone but they have gotten a lot of things right. Moto X 2013 was my favorite phone last year since it was a good balance between all the things I wanted in a phone and after going through everything from S5 to M8, I'm hoping Moto X 2014 will be the perfect balance one more time. IMHO, of course.

These battery tests with scripts are not even real world usage, no matter what they say. Scripts running could bring in other factors, like wakelocks, blah blah blah. So it boils down to users, and their usage. I am betting it'll be fine with me

+1, I would be happier with a bigger battery but I'm fine with 2.300mha. According to extensive reviews I saw already I don't believe battery would be a problem but yes I'm worried about the camera. I saw a lot of noise of sample pictures and I take a lot of photos of my children. I'm not saying the camera is bad, it is really great for the price but if I could pay a little more and get a better camera I'd do it right away.
Because of camera I'm thinking about Galaxy Note 4. Great cam and great screen but I had a Galaxy s4 before and I, like many others, dislike touchwiz and the slow updates. Right now I don't know exactly what to do, the price of moto x is extremely appealing and Android L won't take long to show up. I'm fine with battery, I'm fine with the single speaker (it's on front anyway) but the camera is holding me back. Maybe not for so long - but I want to check more sample pictures before jump on the boat.

I feel you. The camera isn't that bad, when I saw pics. It depends on the lighting. But maybe consider buying a small, cheap camera? Moto X + cheap camera = a Note 4 probably. But having two devices is a cause of concern, so I understand
My battery on my n4 is 2100mah and it can't even get half of what Moto X gets. That's pretty good to me, since n4 battery is only 200mah less

You're absolutely right, having two devices is exactly the problem to me. And don't get me wrong, when I talk to much about the camera maybe seems like I want a fantastic and ultimate quality camera but something on par with GS4 that is two years old now or more would be perfect fine to me. I'm complaining but in the end I think I'll do get a moto x. Like we said before, it's not the best android available but when you see the big picture it's a really great and balanced set.

Wow. Thanks for the link to review which I read in its entirety. This is giving me pause and I just received email from moto that my order is in assembly stage. I may cancel the order and wait for Nexus. I also think this phone will be discounted by Xmas like last year. ;(

The thing I found most notable about this review was the complete dismissal of Moto Voice. For me, this was one of the best attributes of the original Moto X, and it worked well enough to impress iPhone users with its text-message-by-voice feature that mostly "Just Worked." Mileage may vary, obviously, for anyone who spends any time in a car this is a potentially very useful feature.
It'd be nice if the battery life reports had come back better, but they seem more or less as performant as the original model which for me was adequate if not ideal. Throw in the turbo charger, which will theoretically provide a useful enough charge of a 15 minute power up and I'm sold.

Pocketnow just posted their review and he got 4 hours screen on time with 18 hours worth of usage and he used it with Moto 360 and all the bells and whistles. He liked the phone so much that he ordered his own since he was using review unit for a few days.
People just find reasons to hate on something. Motorola is like the guru of battery management. I start using my Moto 360 around 8am and when I put it back on charger at 10pm, I still have 50% battery left. I'm sure Moto X will be similar and I am not worried about it at all. You're always around a charging port in car, in house and at work so why worry?
It could have been better, could have been worse too but who cares. It's a great device overall and I'd be happy to own one

If pocketnow tested the battery by actually using the phone and not by scripts (which I presume he did), then that just shows that running custom made scripts brings in some other factors that will kill battery. I can't trust reviews solely basing battery on scripts. I've read many reports saying that the phone was used and lasted for over 10 hours or whatever

Using scripts to test battery life is fine, but were they really expecting? If you keep two phones on with roughly the same SoC and roughly the same screensize, but one has a larger battery, of course the one with the larger battery is going to win.
I'm more interested in knowing how the Moto X is optimized. When the screen is off, how frequent are the wakelocks? How is the ROM tailored to optimize the phone's battery life when it's not in use?
Does anyone know a site that runs those kinds of tests?

I used to like anandtech because they could give real world meaning to synthetic benchmarks. I miss the user experience. Even the verge, which always seems very apple biased rated the moto x 8.8 (vs iphone6 9.0), when they verge likes an android phone that much you know it must be good (even if it doesn't have *the best* camera)

Pocketnow basically concluded. It's no better than the predecessor and I agree. Barely an improvement if any.. I had a bad feeling. Maybe Lenovo screwed this up, who knows.

but... they gave it an 8.9 lol
edit: from listening to the review, they're only disappointed with the camera. and, like he says in the vid, their readers actually liked last years cam. i won't say i like the cam on my current one, but it's not total crap either. it's usable.
edit: and the battery. but he ends it with saying he's purchased it haha.
i personally think battery and camera can be slightly underwhelming considering the package as a whole. my only complaint deals more with the screen but we'll see how that turns out.

Ever since I ported my Google voice number over to a real number. I use moto voice non stop while driving. You can kind of make it work on other phones if you do the okay Google on any screen but you have to have it plugged in and have it set to never turn the screen off while charging. There are apps that will read out your texts but none seem as refined as moto assists features. If the next nexus somehow gets moto voice I'll probably end up with that but I'll probably sacrifice battery to get the next moto x. From reading. It seems it's on par with the 2013 moto x at least.

Anyone coming from Samsung flagships?

Hi all, I'm currently using the Galaxy S5 and looking to upgrade to the G4. Anyone has switched to the G4 from Samsung's high end phones like the S6 or the Note 4? Can you give some impressions and comparisons (Camera (most important), screen, performance)? Thanks a lot!

From Note 4.... The G4 should crush the S5 except water resistance

I did it after one month with s6 edge, battery in s6 edge is so bad, other things are ok and almost identical, no lags on both phones. Camera is identical.

I came from the S5 to the G4 and haven't even had a second thought on going back
Camera is amazing. UX 4.0 beats Touchwiz (in my opinion better than S6 as well, my wife has that). Just takes some getting used to the no "hard" home buttons and the power/volume buttons on the back rather than the side but once you do it's actually more convenient knowing a case can protect them even more and are less susceptible to being damaged

Note 4 to G4 here. So far, seems better in all aspects. Only one it might not beat the Note 4 in is battery, but I haven't had for long enough to really see how it averages. Camera is better. UI seems cleaner and easier to use. Love double tap on, as I was used to it with the HTC M8 and missed it on the Note 4. Only weird thing I had to get used to was in the cam app, the 3 software buttons don't show up (have to hit the back button in the camera view).
LG really did well with this phone

I'll post more as I get to use phone more. Just got yesterday. So far, it's really nice. I had almost written LG off after the Optimus G. Glad I didn't. So far:
PROs for G4 vs Note 4
Lighter. Also noticeably smaller despite screen being almost same size.
Better Camera
UI - UX 4.0 really is nice and light
No Keyboard FCs! Man that was annoying in Lollipop Note 4...keyboard FC but stayed on screen, had to reboot to get rid of
Double tap on and Knock unlock code
Themes
Settings app broken down into proper sections (Note 4 Settings scrolls all day with all settings on a single scrolling list)
Can get a real Glass Screen Protector without the dreaded Halo effect around all edges (Note 4 curved edge to screen caused this no matter which glass protector I used (tried 6).
64 bit processor
Faster in real world use
Cool offers of free stuff from LG
About $200 cheaper
PROs for Note 4

Both have IR blaster, large beautiful screens, expandable storage, 3GB RAM, excellent wireless radios.

Switched over from a Samsung Galaxy S4...I traded it in for $100 to At&T so my G4 only cost me $99 + tax on my upgrade option. Loving it so far, praying for root to get rid of the bloatware. :fingers-crossed:

I did. I have the S6e at home and I intend to switch back and fourth. The G4 feels so much bigger. The camera quality is NOT the same and I have tested them both in the same scenarios. The s6 is brighter and crisper than the G4. Stock launchers is far better and faster than TW. TW began to lag on my S6, so I installed Nova Prime and it was super fast again. Battery on the G4 is 10 times better than the S6. I got 36 hrs on my G4 and still had 25% left.

I came from a rooted Note 3. First non-phone-specific: I REALLY REALLY miss root. The ability to block ads is missed and I have to wait to restore all of my titanium backups that I have sitting till the G4 is rooted.
As far as performance goes, my Note 3 was pretty snappy. I haven't noticed very many differences in performance yet. But I've been waiting for the battery to get a few cycles before I really start pushing performance with games and stuff.
Other than that, I don;t really miss my Note 3. The G4 is smaller, looks nicer has a better (but only slightly smaller) screen. I kind of miss AMOLED screen tech for battery and contrast, but everything else makes up for it. Do not regret it.:good:

I have an S6e as well and agree with you. I had a Note 4 before the S6e and now the G4 and it feels downright massive compared to the S6e. The Note 4 felt smaller to me because it was thinner but it was a big device as well. I got rid of my Note 4 because of it's size, I ride motorcycles almost daily and the damned thing was never comfortable in my pocket, it was just too big and rectangle and flat. The S6e is perfect size for me in that regard but I really miss having a larger display (had a Nexus 6 before the Note). Because of the slight curvature of the back of the G4 it makes just enough of a difference in my jeans that it doesn't dig the corners of the phone into my leg when I squeeze the tank in turns, etc.
Cameras between S6e and G4 seem pretty similar to me but there is a difference but I attribute that to Samsung doing a better job of processing the jpg file that's output than LG with the G4 having the ace in the hole of giving you the raw file you can subsequently edit yourself. I know that's not what most people want to do (myself included for phone snaps), but I think the LG camera is better for that reason alone as you can certainly make a better image in the end. All that said, I believe the S6e will do the same once it gets official 5.1.1 and then a proper camera comparo can be done, though in all honesty it's still a phone camera and they are both outstanding for what they are.
Same thoughts on launchers too, the iteration of TW on the S6e is much better than anything they've done before but it still suffers from the same old problems of lag ultimately. I too use Nova (on both phones) and it solves the issue. If forced to use stock, I would probably pick the LG but I do hate the DPI of 640 and everything is so damned big and there's so much wasted screen real estate. The S6e out of the box with it's adjustable grid sizes and what not better utilizes the screen.
Agree on battery life also. On the stock ROM I could make it through a day (I work 18-20h shifts at times) on a single charge but I would cut it close some days. The built in Qi charging is really nice and I have a charger at work and I can just drop the phone on it when I can make it to my office and the quick charge via the INCLUDED wall charger is awesome. So even though the battery life wasn't great, it's quite easy to top it off. I did run the leaked TMo 5.1.1 software for a week or so and the battery life on it is a completely different animal. I could make it nearly 48 hours without a top off, so again, with 5.1.1 I think the S6e will be a lot better device than it currently is. The battery life on my G4 seems great so far. I've run it down to 10% twice now and it was at about 40h off charger each time. The phone itself supports quick charge 2.0 but the included wall charger doesn't. The wall charger charges it incredibly slow so I've been using my S6e charger which charges it in about 1/3 the time. I ordered a proper quick charge 2.0 certified charger that should be here tomorrow along with a Qi sticker for the stock back. All things considered, the G4 battery is certainly longer lasting but more of a pain in the ass to recharge for now (until my free spare battery from the promo shows up lol!) and for the way/scenarios I use my phone I prefer the S6e here. My Note 4 easily crushed them both in this category, it could go just over 3 days before dying.

Coming from S5 (Verizon) to the G4 (Verizon) ...
The S6 with no SD support was a no-go for me.
Battery life seems a little shorter than the S5. I suspect it is due to the beefier processor on the G4 even though the G4 has a bigger battery. The battery on the G4 seems to drop a LOT less when unused however.
I am kinda missing my fingerprint scanner on the S5, but the knock code and "locked files" in gallery help me keep certain pictures away from prying eyes.
Speaking of pictures, this camera is awesome. Period. Check out the "My LG G4 Photography" thread by alexfoxy. The front camera is pretty good too. A lady friend took a few selfies with my phone and said "damn, your phone makes me look good!"
I don't really notice the difference in the screen (size or resolution). S5 looked good and a the size is right for my big hands. G4 is the same.
This is the first phone that I didn't immediately wish for a ROM. I am missing my ad-blocking that requires root, but the default ROM is clean and fast (maybe kudos the the processor). I did have to change home back to Apex, tho.
All in all, very happy with the upgrade.

I'm coming from the Note 4 and I'm pretty sure the G4 is here to stay with me.
I can basically echo what others are saying;
- the ui is cleaner and smoother
- overall phone seems a lot smoother/quicker I haven't had much stuttering. The Note had its moments where it'd freeze or stutter really badly, even on a custom rom
- maybe it's just me but the pictures from the camera seem sharper.
- It feels better in hand aswell.
- The double tap on screen to unlock is nice to have
- the clip tray being an option when I long press where I would usually paste is nice to see as with the Note, the clipboard only showed up in select places
It just seems nicer overall. I do hope root comes soon as I'd want to disable some stuff.
In terms of battery, I feel like the Note might of done better but then again I had certain crap apps disabled *cough* tmo my account *cough*
I can't exactly judge though since my service at work sucks so whatever phone I use drains quickly. For some reason when I had the OnePlus it did a ton better in the poor coverage areas (in terms of battery drain) but it didn't have WiFi calling which is a big deal to me.
I didn't use the spen as much as I initially thought I would. When it came to taking notes I always went back to typing them rather than writing with the stylus. Although it did come in handy for selecting certain parts of a pic online and whatnot and quickly sharing it to something like hangouts.
Fingerprint and shealth I never cared for.
I haven't "missed" my Note 4 yet. I like having new devices and I'm sure I don't use them to their potential as some others do here but for my purposes the phone is great

Even though I have the HTC One M9 Dev Edition, I consider myself coming from the T-Mobile S5 to the T-Mobile G4. The dealmaker for me were the replaceable battery and removable storage. I'm still keeping my S5 of course. I still need a root-capable device.

Regarding the Note 4I got irritated with it to the point where I paid off half the phone's price to get rid of it. Lollipop was an absolute mess. First, we waited forever. Then when we get it, it really messed up the phone. Issues I had:
1) Constant keyboard FC (where keyboard stays on screen permanent until reboot)...this would happen about once an hour, but only when using special characters ( . , * $ etc).
2) Upon unlocking, I would go to a black screen occasionally, requiring me to press the power button to shut off phone, then turn back on.
3) Trying to open an e-mail from notifications would take me to e-mail APP, but to a blank page with a back button.
4) Sometimes, cellular radio would choose to ignore wireless data altogether despite being in a strong LTE area.
5) Wifi calling would hardly connect, and was as likely to drop mid-call as it was to stay connected
6) Battery life went from 2 days with my usage to about 18 hours.
On top of those Lolli issues, the settings menu was a mess...scroll all day to find the menu I wanted. Missed double tap to wake too.
While I LOVED the look of the M9 and I love HTC in general, I eliminated HTC M9 due to 2 reasons:
1) The camera wasn't a contender with the current flagships and I use it as my primary camera to take pics of my kids.
2) No dual apps on same screen. It's a feature I used on the Note 4, and M9 didn't have it.
The S6 got eliminated due to 3 main reasons:
1) Looks too much like IPhone...sorry, just not my style
2) Touchwiz...granted my opinion is based on the Note 4, but I found it to be overly heavy and loaded with things I don't really use.
3) No expandable storage. I read their point of using high speed EMMC and wanting to keep system fast. What I read in that was "Blah blah blah we want you to pay MORE to get more storage". Again, goes back to too much like IPhone.
I'm not saying the G4 is perfect...I'd love it to have an 8 core processor, but it's really powerful enough as is. It's not overloaded with apps I won't really used or features I don't use. I'm sure I'll find things I don't LOVE as I use it more, but nothing is jumping out at me so far, and considering this has only been out for what...2 weeks, it's still early release, so bugs could be expected somewhat even though I've had none thusfar. I also liked the promotions LG was putting with it considering it's the least expensive of all the flagships out there (at least for us T-Mobile customers...it's $50 less than the M9, $80 less than S6, $180 less than S6E, hell, it's even cheaper than a 16GB IPhone 6).

Note 4 vs Nexus 6p

I was wondering if there are any Nexus 6P owners who came from a Note 4? I'm currently running CM12.1 since TW is just ugly bloatware. I just ordered a 6p with 128gb since I'm used to the SD slot on my note 4 and need plenty of storage. I'm now having doubts if I'm making a mistake after seeing one here at work today. The phone is great but the camera isn't as good as the one with the Note 4. I have shaky hands and IS really helps. I can get used to not having a stylus. What pushed me more than anything else is my issues with sprint. Since Project FI combines two networks I should have a better experience. This would also mean leaving the unlimited data package I'm grandfathered in but if in most places it's a struggle to have a good data connection then what's the point.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I came from a Note 4 with CM 12.1, same as you. I literally never used the stylus so that was a non issue. With cloud storage like google drive, I struggle to see the need for SD cards and it never really factored into the equation for me. Music gets uploaded to google play, large files go to google drive, and photos/videos sync with google photos so I can delete them on the phone over time. I pretty much only used the SD card on the Note 4 to have backup images and rom files so I could wipe and reflash without a computer. With the Nexus, custom roms are unnecessary for me so that's a non issue.
The camera had OIS which was a plus, but the only plus. The 6P's camera is superior in every other way, and I haven't taken many shots yet, but even in low light, the OIS seems unnecessary for this camera. It would benefit in video though...no doubt.
I grew tired of dealing with broken roms. Even CM 12.1 being as stable as it was wasn't without some minor issues. Having the absolute best to offer that Google can come up with as far as OS updates and timeliness was the draw for the 6P for me, and I couldn't be happier with that decision.
Like you, what prompted me to decide to make the switch was switching carriers. T-Mobile absolutely blew for coverage. Verizon's 18 gb plan for 100 was a pretty damn good deal and while I lost my unlimited data plan with T-mobile, I'm paying less on Verizon now and I no longer wonder why the hell I have 4 bars of LTE signal yet can't get the mobile network to send anything. As you said, what good is unlimited data if you can't get coverage, and when you do, can't get the mobile network to work right.

Thank you for replying. Being on sprint there are areas that are real good but others that are just terrible. Then there are areas where T-Mobile is great. I'm hoping being on project Fi, the combo of Sprint,T-Mobile and wifi access points will make a solid improvement. It's still not Verizon but must be better than having sprint alone. Also the positive with the Nexus 6p is that I think I could always go to someone else like verizon with this phone and connect it there. Right now it seems like Sprint doesn't plan to carry the 6p.
The rear camera even with less pixels and no IS seems better to you in your experience? Again thank you for the reply above. :highfive:

Came from the note 4 and completely disagree about the camera, the 6p destroys it as far as I am concerned. Battery life is far superior for me, I could barely make it half a day on my damn note 4. I unplugged my 6p yesterday at 5pm and with it only being my second day with it I am still very heavily using it to toy around with and such, anyways unplugged it at 5 with full battery, by 2am I was at 65 and now at 10am the next day I still have 44% without plugging it in at all yet. Combine all that with the fact that I could not root mine because it was from VZW and none dev edition leaves me with being very very happy with this switch.

I compared my wife's note 4 and mine 6p camera and I think the 6p looks better. We were taking the same exact pictures and uploading it to a computer for viewing.

Same here. When I took this thing off of the charger at 100% & got to work & noticed it was still 100% or maybe 99%, I was amazed. My Note 4 would have been at like 90% or less already. When I leave the phone for the night at say 50% & wake up, it barely moves overnight. Can't say the same with the Note 4. I have yet to fully test the battery, but the first day of use was heavy, & by bed time it was 48%. I also had it unplugged from the wall the prior day since 3 or 4am.
The usb c is nice for the fact I just plug it in & I'm not trying to figure out how the cable goes in.
The non bloat is huge. When I booted the phone Sunday for the first time, I was like.. Where are all of the apps? Oh wait, this is pure Android. The Verizon Note 4 has so many extra apps & processes running, it's a joke. What I have loaded on this phone is what I want. Not what Verizon forced on me.
Fyi, I had a non Dev Note 4. While I did use the pen some, all of these bonuses outweigh the pen.
Plus I feel the phone is much snappier.
Not to mention I haven't even unlocked and rooted yet.
So with that said, I won't be going back. And thats just a few things. I haven't even tested the speakers, really used the camera, or set up the fingerprint scanner.

Just got my 128gb 6P yesterday and I'm also coming from a Sprint Note 4 (with 128gb microSD). I was also runnig CM12.1 on it which was definitely nice compared to Touchwiz. In any case, just from short usage of it its defintely a great improvement over the Note 4. I find that the camera wasnt that good on Note 4 with CM12.1, it was slow. Almost went back to Touchwiz because of it. Battery life wasnt that great either on Note 4 and I would always swap batteries when I got home from work. I'll miss the ability to swap batteries though. Camera is awesome, screen is awesome (better than Note 4). Always felt the Note 4 had a nice screen but after having them side by side, 6P is way nicerrr. Never cared for the fingerprint on the Note 4 but 6P is a joy to use. Bluetooth audio in the car sounds better too.

I moved from a note 3 to the 6p. So far I am happy with my choice. I honestly thought I was going to miss the wireless charging/SD card slot a lot more, but I actually don't.
The type c usb charger with doze make it so that I don't even bother to charge my phone at night anymore. I typically plug my phone in while I am using my computer at work even if it's just responding to e-mails. By the time I'm done responding I already have several more hours of use.
As for storage I haven't really run into an issue with it. The only potential is when I want to save movies on my phone so I don't have to stream them, but then again I still have over 80 gb to work with even after moving my photos and music library. To be honest I could just take the few seconds to delete a few movies once I get bored of them instead of letting them pile up. The transfer rates are quick so it's not a problem if I miss a movie and want to put it back on my phone again.

Lol I am in the same boat from my note 4. I am so used to having to plug in every night no matter what. I actually make a point of not plugging it in and it's honestly amazing being able to do that. Being on call 24/7 I need to know I can depend on this phone to last and so far it is doing quite well. I don't think I will make a habit of not charging it at night because I shouldn't possibly put myself in a bad spot by having not charged and then not being able to for awhile. But for now it's giving me a ton of confidence in it. Hell my battery is now at 42 percent so I only lost 2 percent in an hour with notifications going off and checking the phone.

For your situation I would plug it in as you said, but it's been super nice not having to plug it in at night. Just set it down and off to dream land I go just like wireless charging, but without the pad (my night stand looks a lot cleaner now). All phones should have doze once every phone updates to project M right? And the note 4 also has quick charge? So from a battery beneficial stand point I guess the 6p doesn't have much over the note 4. (The battery is bigger, but the phone eats more).

The only thing I miss about the Note4 are the roms by @ZION959 ; truly an amazing developer! I almost kept the device just because of his rom support. :good:

Hi Guys im sort of in the same situation. Had some issues with my Note 4 so was looking to pick up a 6p. Main concern right now is that on my OnePlus One capturing images is very slow. 4-5 second delay before picture is taken. Im wondering does the 6p have this same issue as well ? Basically is there delay when clicking the button and image is captured. For me the note 4 is almost instantaneous and i like that a lot especially for fast moving subject matter. would appreciate your input.

Using my friend's 6p I find it to be as fast as the Note 4 with the camera if not faster.

ZION did do a great job. Too bad CM12.1 has some bugs that annoy me like the LTE bug with texts. I don't know if my issues with LTE connectivity are also related to CM12.1 or if it's the Note 4 radio. I've also noticed development is seriously slowing down for the sprint's version of the Note 4. Nexus 6p is really picking up in this area.

I'm coming from a Note 4 running firekat and I got a 128GB Frost because I take a lot of pictures and my data is limited (for cloud storage use) cuz in Canada they kill us with the data charges.
When the Nexus 6p was released, I wondered if moving to a Nexus was kind of a lateral move, when looking at a spec sheet it's pretty similar.
But after having this phone for about a week, I have zero regrets. the 6P was an amazing successor to the note 4 which I loved and showed off
Here's what I was concerned with vs how it turned out:
S-pen features, I didn't use it too often but when I did I loved it, being able to share specific parts of the screen via the lasso tool was awesome, and being able to highlight easily words or numbers on chrome or apps.
How it turned out: I just take Screenshots (power button + lower volume button) and because the nexus is pretty fast I can just go into the photos app and crop what I want within a few seconds. and as far as highlighting specific words, the nexus does a really good job at recognizing and limiting the highlight to exactly one word at a time with those extension quotes that can be moved. It also shows a menu right away that lets you copy etc.
Camera Quality - Megapixels and OIS on the Note 4 vs lower Megapixels and no OIS
How it turned out: I compared side by side a few shots before I sold my note 4 and man there was a noticeable difference in how much better the 6P was. the colors were more accurate, the subject was more defined and lowlight pictures were so much nicer. even for the selfie camera, my wife used to complain that the camera made her look way lighter than she actually is to a point where she'd look vampireish but this camera both front and back she loves because it's pretty accurate on color. As far as OIS goes, for pictures, I don't need it. I snap at least 3 shots every time I take a picture and although 1 may end up being blurry, the other two are always clear. For video, I hardly take em anyway but that is a very noticable difference. the OIS was necessary to have especially when I compared it to my friend's iPhone 6Splus. My hands are pretty steady but the 6P still has pretty shaky video.
No Home button or menu/back buttons + On screen navigation
How it turned out: I really thought I would notice this change more because I was very used to having those buttons from having Samsung products for almost 4 years but I got used to not having a physical button surprisingly quick. I'd say in maybe 15 minutes I was already accustomed to using the on screen controls. I think it's because I was actively thinking about it from it being a concern of mine but either way, it's very easy to adjust. I was also concerned that the on screen navigation buttons take up a lot of screen space but it's mostly unnoticeable and goes away most of the time for full screen things unless you slide up from that side to make it show.
The reason I wanted to switch after having a Samsung Galaxy s2>s3>s4>s5>note3>note4 is because I wanted something fast, reliable, big battery, good camera (that can match up to what the Note 4 could do) and to be able to get updates right away and sexy. and the Nexus 6P hits all those marks perfectly. I don't miss the note 4.
Also the fingerprint reader.... I LOVE this thing, it's so convenient and fast!!! I had the fingerprint turned off on the Note 4 because it was inconvenient and I never thought I'd use a fingerprint reader because I wanted quick access to my screen right away at all times, but this positioning and speed for the 6P is amazing. There isn't even an option for changing your lockscreen image because you don't need it!
Edit: forgot to mention some drawbacks, with the Note 4 I didn't have to use a skin or case cuz that thing was pretty rugged but for my Nexus 6P I've spent nearly $50 on skins and cases cuz that mofo is slippery as fk. and feels too nice to put down without a case. Although the battery life is amazing right now I'm sure over time it won't be as good so as far as the USB type-c thing I can see it being a future headache, I can't borrow chargers from friends when I visit their homes, I need special cables that are compliant, and I'd need to find a special charger for my car. My wife still has a Samsung S5 so we can't share chargers anymore either.
Also lmao looks like I essayed this but I guess it's also for personal justification lol. and for anyone else in the same boat

The non bloat is huge. When I booted the phone Sunday for the first time, I was like.. Where are all of the apps? Oh wait, this is pure Android. The Verizon Note 4 has so many extra apps & processes running, it's a joke. What I have loaded on this phone is what I want. Not what Verizon forced on me.
Fyi, I had a non Dev Note 4. While I did use the pen some, all of these bonuses outweigh the pen.
Plus I feel the phone is much snappier.
Not to mention I haven't even unlocked and rooted yet.
So with that said, I won't be going back. And thats just a few things. I haven't even tested the speakers, really used the camera, or set up the fingerprint scanner.

as i am reading your post, i am crying. my note 4, even after under clocking and so many things, the battery dies so fast, restarts and so many trouble. i don't use fingerprint, vibration etc to save battery. just thinking to move to 6p

came from note 4, bought 64gb White 6p for 285 from a friend ( wasn't used at all).
Never looked back (did this 2 months ago)

Just bought one, i am really curios as to how it will hold up. I had previously a note 4 so let's hope that performance are better
and that at least it will give me 1,5 year life (if it is good i will buy at that time the next nexus at a cheap price)

Advice wanted from experienced LG V20 users

Hi folks. I've been on a T-mobile Note 4 for a long time now, and love it- no problems yet and an 8000 maH battery keeping me quite happy.
Thinking forward to buying a new phone soon. Lots of new stuff coming out soon, but the V20 still looks attractive to me (being able to get a 10,000 maH zerolemon battery is a BIG factor). IR blaster and SD card availability is big to me too.
Couple of questions:
1) Thinking about what's coming out, and having lived with the V20, would you wait for what's coming out this spring, or even sit back until the "V30"?
2) I love taking pictures with the Note 4, and they turn out well. Low light, well, not so much. Flowers on a sunny day are great. Are you happy with the main and selfie cameras, or do you find yourself wanting "just a bit more" (for the average user... I'm not a full time amateur photographer).
Your comments would be much appreciated. I just retired, so I have more time to play with things these days- so I'm sure I'll be using the next beast I buy extensively especially for reading, nice photos, and the ir remote (oh, I got a great e-z chair for tv time ).

I like my V20 but unfortunately I do not "love" it like I did with my OG Motorola Nexus 6.
The stock battery is utter crap and I am on my 2nd LG battery after having to recall the 1st one. The 2nd one greatly improved but not by much. Rooting this phone has saved me from returning it. If it wasn't for Root I would of returned the phone.
1. Other than the G6 or the S8 coming out - what other phones are coming out (T-Mobile Wise)? Nothing right now seems to give me that "wow" factor like the Pure Android experience from the Nexus 6 did (yes, as you can tell, I loved that phone) The Pixel phones are a complete joke to me...horrible design....
2. The camera is okay for an average user. I do find myself liking the fact I have two lenses to choose from. Wide angle and normal angle. Very helpful in the Security field that I am in. But be warned the pictures are not amazing like Samsung devices.
If I were you, kinda wish I was right now. I would wait for the Note 8!
But other than that the 2nd Screen is incredibly helpful, to me. The removable battery and SD card is a great addition. The IR Blaster is cool but I do not use it at all. I have enough "Universal" remotes. LG's UI is pretty neat I like it a lot better than Samsungs ugly TouchWiz UI.
To each their own, I suppose.

I think the phone is awesome, the smart phone market has peaked advancements aren't going to be as neat as they used to be.
The snapdragon 820 is about 3 times faster than the 805 in your note 4 (assuming you've got the snapdragon variant).
The camera is snappier than the note 4 and takes pretty good photos (better than the note 4).
If you like the stylus though I'd wait it out 6 months for the note 8.
It's a worthy upgrade and it'll probably be a phone that would carry you through two years if not longer.

Absolutely the best phone I've ever had.
Very well built, great reception, zero lag, large screen....and I have to disagree about the battery. I've had nothing but FANTASTIC life, and this is with two different batteries, one just for backup just in case. Fast charging works great...volume is perfect, removable battery, rootable and TWRP-able...honestly, I wouldn't even think about "upgrading" from this phone right now. Samsung who?

I came from the note 4 also. This phone is much faster (no Lag). I didn't think there was any lag with my note until I got this phone. With that said, I am rooted with a custom rom and that did speed things up a little. My note was also rooted with a very nice custom rom.
When the note 7 came out, the were a lot of people on XDA saying they wished there was a flat screen version, i.e. not the curved screen. You can bet the note 8 will have a curved screen which makes finding quality screen protection tough. The v20 does have slight curving at the top and bottom, but people here have found tempered glass solutions that work.
You can also bet the note 8 won't have a removable back, so replacing the back plate with a bigger battery and cover won't be an option.
The camera takes very good pictures and if you understand the options in manual, you can really optimize it. Is it as good as the note 8 will be? No.
Sammy screens are also the best looking. The V20 screen while it has the specs, just doesn't look as good as a sammy. If you use a kernel with kcal support, you can get close.

I also came from a Note 4.
I personally never used the stylus for anything except taking screen grabs. I fount it easier than remembering the button combo for a screenshot.
My gps stopped working due to a known defect in the note 4. I broke the display trying to take it apart to fix it.
I love my V20 so much more than my note 3 or 4 or 7 even.
I won't buy note 8 as like all Samsungs -
1. The sound will most likely be horrible.
2. You probably will never be able to root it.
3. As nice as the amoled looks - everyone I've owned as well as my wifes, bil's, sisters all suffer bad screen burn in.
4. If they force that curved edge screen again. I hated that on the Note 7.

I'm done with Sammy. LG V20 is the best I've ever had so far

I also came from the Note 4. I got the s7 edge which i gave to my wife. The buttons(or lack of) take a little getting used to, but the ability to root determined my buying the V20 and I think it is on par with my note feature wise(minus stylus\plus FM radio) just faster and maybe a bit lighter. If Note 8 is rootable, i might jump but i doubt it. I could keep this phone for awhile.

Another perk with LG is that the amount of garbage software that it comes with is minimal when compared to Samsung. I know the note 3 and note 4 were filled with Samsung garbage apps.
The other consideration is there is no know so warranty shouldn't be a issue since there is no knox switch that gets flipped when you root it, you can (in most cases) reverse the rooting without any problems.
Of course I turned in my v10 rooted and they didn't even care (T-Mobile) so I am not sure if this is a real issue with warranty or not.
I say go for it, its going to beat the note 4 in just about everything. The only perk for the note 4 is the amoled display which saves quite a bit of battery. Of course you can always get aftermarket battery packs to off set it with the LG v20.
The v20 battery life is much improved over the v10, I typically have about 30 percent battery by the end of the day (this is with spotify and Bluetooth running during the work day).

I really do like it a lot, although it had to grow on me a little bit. In term of pictures, I think it takes rather nice pictures (at least for me). The wide angle lens is pretty cool too. My note 5 broke so this is why I have this phone. The second screen is really useful and I like that it doesn't have a notification light. The screen is nice and big for reading also. I don't use the IR blaster at all so i can't really tell you what its like.

The v20 is OK but my note 7 was far superior. Better camera, screen, battery life, only thing the v20 had over the note 7 was the DAC. Personally I would wait until newer phones comes out. I'm looking FWD to the note 8.

As someone who have had a wide variety of samsungs and LG .... I believe i will be keeping this phone for at least 4 years easily. There are just not way too many cons and there are way to many pros. The battery can sometime be a pain but that's just like any other phone since nothing last forever. But hey, the dozen mode!!! OUTSTANDING! my V20 consumes 1% of battery in 8 hours with screen off and 2nd screen on. so, it might not last more than 5:30-50's+ hours with screen on, full brightness, wifi on, gps on, and a video in 1440p. But,,,, as far as dozen mode goes.... It is outstanding! And if the promotion stills on, you can get the phone for 600+ instead of the 800+ by exchanging any 4g crap phone ($19 dollars at walmart should do lol). Im happy with the phone (sometimes pictures if zoomed in can look like waterpaint style but it doesnt happen that often (At least to me)). And as far as waiting for the V30 or note 8 ... Well, that is truly up to you. However, if you are hoping for root , there is just not guarantee given the fact that they are truly patching up every door from nougat 7.0 and up. So... you could wait for the V30 or note 8 but if you wish for root or developments.... i dont recommend to buy them before someone finds the way to root it.

I was one of the ones that was coming from an S6 edge instead of something newer, so obviously it's a bigger upgrade for me than it was for most others. I am pretty happy with the camera. I miss having the double-tap home button from the Samsung for the camera launch, but that's about it. I took it with me to Colorado and took some quite lovely pictures in the sunshine. Most people will concede that the low light performance leaves some to be desired, but I usually don't take any in conditions that are that bad, where that I would complain afterwards. I kind of figure that in sub-optimal conditions, I'll have sub-optimal results.
My battery seems to be quite fine, BUT, I'm also rooted and running a debloated ROM (the US996 stock deodexed, on my 995 Verizon model). The battery under whatever kernel it's running, is quite fine, and it is removable for people needing more length. I wish it had wireless charging, but that's just how it is. But for example, 8 hours on standby, and I was still at well over 75% today at work. And I can usually get through a good 3 hours of straight video playback at least. But the way people use their phones varies so much, it's hard to say. I do get better life rooted than when it was stock.
It also is plenty snappy, and I've had no issues, no overheating, no weird battery drain, no lag, or the like. I would say that coming from what you have now, it might be a step up but you might feel it won't be a big enough one yet. But the LG G6 being rumored out might be worth holding out, assuming you aren't looking to root. That might get tricky as Nougat (mentioned above) starts getting locked down. I have faith in the community - after all, it didn't take long for the V20 to get opened up, though there are some that worry that it'll continue to get harder as exploits get patched.
For what it's worth, I love mine. I miss a couple weird tricks from other phones, but on the whole, I am very satisfied with my decision.

Random FYI... Double press down volume when screen is off opens camera. (options in settings to open and immediately take pic or just open)
I figure you already know and just miss the convenience of the home button location but... Just in case...

Yup, there is that one. But it's also a little more awkward that way. It's just as easy to double-tap the screen and swipe into the camera app. The home key on the Samsung was perfect, because I could bring the phone to landscape orientation, double tap, and bam, ready to go. It's rare that I need to get a picture THAT fast that I need to, but it was really convenient.

I love almost everything about it, but If this thing had a brighter or amoled screen I would never get another phone.

Do not bring AMOLED INTO IPS!!! Every single phone i had with AMOLED screen (10 to be precise), all of them developed burn in image. LOL I will never buy another phone with AMOLED screen. Unless..... They A) fix the issue with the burn in image, and B) they manage to make it last at its full potential for at least 5 years and then after 5 years the pixels can start dying. Not to mention that many of the AMOLED screens from nowadays have removed soooooooo many important features in a phone such as removable battery and sd card slots. That alone makes me move within an instant to LG G or V series (AKA Large Giraffe as some people call it LOL)

Hahaha Yeah it would have to be a revised version of that hardware. I just find that the screen is way too dim outside. I even used that adaptive display mod which does help, but washes out the colors.

I literally just went from a note 4 to v20 and its amazing. The phone is so much more intuitive . tap screen to wake .fingerprint scanner unlocks phone faster than I can swipe. So much more. All around it just works better. I feel like all Samsung phones are the same. Bc I've had only Sammy past 8 years. I love this v20
