NO 5.1-channel surround audio in TV Shows and Movies.
I just bought a Mad Catz M.O.J.O. and now i see that i have
NO 5.1 audio, when you put on your website:
Hear thatcatchy background music or those killer sound effects loud
and clear, with support for 5.1-channel surround audio.
http://madcatz.com/mojo/en-us/
http://madcatz.com/pressroom/m-o-j-o-android-micro-console/
So you are lying?
Because i also do not see Enable Passthrough in Settings/Audio.
I hope you can help in some way, i tried XBMC 13.0 ALPHA11,
and used MX Player with the 5.1 audio codec and Archos
Video with Codects, and i only hear and see Stereo sound or
Multichannel sound on my Receiver and not 5.1 audio, tried AC3
5.1 audio and DTS 5.1 audio.
I also have a MeLE M9 and there we have with XBMC Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD and DTS, DTS-HD Master,
and with TvdVideo Player Dolby Digital and DTS, and that Android TV BOX cost only $110.64 and with the
Mele F10-Pro Air Mouse it cost only $134.55.
I bought the Mad Catz M.O.J.O. as a replacement for my MeLE M9, but know i can do less with the Mad Catz M.O.J.O.
then with the MeLE M9.
UPDATE: With MX Player and DTS Codec we have Dolby Digital and DTS (not Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master) on our Mad Catz M.O.J.O.
So it is getting better and better, but still not perfect.
MX Player
DTX Codec
We don't support DTS or Dolby surround natively (although Dolby Digital should pass through automatically if received) but we do support straight multichannel 5.1 sound which is likely what you're seeing when you see "Multichannel" on your receiver.

Then why put on your website that it supports 5.1-channel surround audio, because that was the main reason i bought this device, and that means Dolby
digital and DTS, you cannot get multichannel 5.1 sound without does audio codecs, just pay them for the sounds just like MeLE has don, and there device cost
only $110.
So if you get no 5.1 multichannel then i sent it back to the store, because to pay that much money and not get 5.1 sound support is absurd, and very cheap of
you guys, then just say on your website ONLY Stereo and never 5.1 sound.
Even the Playstation 3 has Dolby digital and DTS, and that one cost the same as this device.
DTS and Dolby aren't the only 5.1 audio codec options! It's often a misconception that if you're not getting DTS or Dolby then you're not getting the best - look at all the discussion about which output option to use on PS4 at the moment and you'll see many people recommending Linear PCM over Dolby or DTS because it's uncompressed. Do that and your amp will only show "multichannel", but it's still 5.1 or 7.1 (depending on the source material).
You ARE getting 5.1 sound if it says Multichannel on your amp. If you're unsure, many amps have the icons for each speaker channel which only illuminate when that channel is getting output - if you have them, see if they're getting lit.

I see MULTICH and PCM and in movies i only get 2.0 audio.
I have used allot of sound test files and i never hear my back and center speaker and subwoofer in movies.
But i hear in the Google Play Music App 5.0, but not in movie players, so how to get 5.1 sound in movie players?
I used does 7.1 and 5.1 24bit/48kHz multichannel wav files:
http://www.jensign.com/bdp95/7dot1voiced/
But TV shows and Movies don't have Linear PCM codec, and the Playstation 3 and 4 can do the decoding true Linear PCM, but what i can see is that the Mad
Catz M.O.J.O. cannot do the decoding, so you're answer is a little bit still don't you think, but what i can read is that you cannot hear the difference
between Linear PCM and DTS(-HD Master).
But why can't you just buy a license for Dolby Digital and DTS, just like MeLE and VidON has don?
Could you try one of the files here?:
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/technology/home-theater/dolby-digital-plus-download.html
The basic surround test is a good one.
Edit: I just tried the 5.1 test file from that link of yours and it works fine - I get audio response in all channels.

That may be but i do not have it in movies, and sorry to say but people do not buy it so that they can listen to some (and i mean almost non) 5.1 music,
they buy also you device to look at movies with 5.1 sound, not only to play games on it.
Same for Xbox and Playstation, allot of people also use it to look at movies with it.
And it is ****y to put loud and clear with full support for 5.1-channel surround audio, on your website, because that is bad advertisement.
So i called the store and tomorrow they are gone take it of my hands, and get my money back.
Now i just gone use my MeLE more also for gaming, gone use my Logitech cordless rumblepad 2, and Mele F10-Pro Air Mouse.
I hope you all good luck, but if you are someone that likes to look at movies allot then stay away from this product.
Well, that's your prerogative but I have to point out for anyone reading this thread that I've proven to you that Dolby Digital works and 5.1 PCM files are also fine.

HAHA yes of course, but still it's bad advertisement, If you really want to be honest you put on your website that it cannot play movies and TV Shows in 5.1-channel surround audio, then you are honest.
As long as the TV shows and movies you're watching are outputting Dolby Digital or PCM then you're fine.

Come on will you, ALL TV shows and Movies are Dolby digital and DTS and more, and Dolby digital is not 5.1 on the Mad Catz M.O.J.O. only Stereo.
Did you try the test file I linked you to on Dolby's site? I assume you did and found that you got 5.1 sound from it. I certainly did - just like I did from the PCM test file that you linked. If you did then that shows you that Dolby Digital sound is working on MOJO - the next step is for you to confirm the exact audio that's encoded on the files that you're using. If they're DTS then you will get stereo, but if they're correctly encoded in either 5.1 Dolby Digital (remember that there is also such a thing as Dolby Digital 2.0!) or PCM then you'll get 5.1 sound.
For DTS encoded files where you're only getting stereo I'll bet your amp features an option to enable Dolby Pro Logic IIx on the stereo signal which, in my experience, creates a surprisingly effective surround effect.

Strange because the MKV movie(s) i played that had AC3 5.1 (is Dolby digital) played in Stereo, and yes i have Dolby Pro Logic IIx, but DTS or DTS-HD Master sounds MUCH better then Dolby Pro Logic IIx.
But it doesn't matter, i do not have the MadCatz M.O.J.O. anymore, it went back to the store.
But why do you sell a Android TV Box that has no video players installed on it, with Codec packs so you can hear sound if you play Movies with Dolby
Digital, Dolby TrueHD and DTS, DTS-HD Master, that is very strange.
All and i mean all the Android TV Boxes out of china have them already installed, so that it works good on there Hardware.
Like the very popular MINIX NEO X5 and MINIX NEO X7, and MeLE M9 and MeLE A1000G.
And yes gaming on then is the same as on the MadCatz M.O.J.O., you buy a PS3 GPS3CT01 (Gamepad) for $14.00 at tinydeal, and can play all the
games that has Gamepad support, and more with a air mouse, that comes with the Android TV Boxes.
MOJO is a completely open system onto which you can install any media player that you like. We do make recommendations (such as linking to the apk for MXPlayer on our getting started site, linked on the homescreen of MOJO) but ultimately it's your box to do with as you wish.
Regarding gaming being the same, well that's already not true with a lot of the latest games coming out and the gap is only going to get wider with some of the apps we know are coming this year.
Update: we've been talking to the guys at XBMC and this looks like an issue with the pass-through function in XBMC on Android. We'll update once we have a solution - in the meantime the pass-through function works fine in MXPlayer.

Ok then, but can you please buy a DTS pass so that we can hear all the audio codecs, just like MeLE and VidOn has don?
Hey all.
I found a rather dirty hack that seems to work better than Bluetooth audio for listening to private audio from the firetv.
Installing bubbleupnp works good on my phone for audio casting to xbmc, so I tried the same on the firetv in reverse.
I had the xposed installer already on the firetv for llama support, so all I needed was to install the bubbleupnp app and bubbleupnp module in xposed.
Experimenting, I played from xbmc to my bubbleupnp app on my phone and it worked. There was a little delay, but it was more constant than the delay that BT headphones have with the firetv. Adjusting the delay on the xbmc app, and I had my private audio. I hadn't tried with any of the other video apps on the firetv, but I'm thinking the delay will be there. At least I can use it for xbmc.
Just wanted to put that out there. Hopefully a better option for sending and listening to audio will come out soon.

so with what you did is, you basically had the audio stream of a video playing on your phone? I have already installed bubbleupnp on both my note 3 and the fire tv (xposed module on both devices too)but im clueless as to how to make this work. all i have managed is to cast audio(but only music and not video) from my phone to the fire tv, or initiate a video from the fire tv to start playing on my phone, making the fire tv a large remote and my phone the video player lol.
thing is I've never used bubbleupnp before so this whole casting thing is new to me. Maybe you are able to give more details as to what you did? what you set the renderer and library to on both your phone and the tv? Would gladly appreciate it as this is the last piece of the puzzle for me as to configuring the fire tv. would really like xbmc to play the video while my phone plays the audio!! thx!!
Exactly as you said it.
Set bubbleupnp to audiocast to my phone.
Listen on my phone.
Get frustrated because bubbleupnp won't ever change their design to be able to sync. Apparently, the delay is inevitable. Not sure why, as allshare seems to have it figured out.
I'm going to give up on this, as I've had no luck from this method. Will wait to see if a BT ad2p(?) Receiver Profile can be used with phones.

You know what im doing now? I play the movie using xbmc, but also start the movie playback on my phone using mx player. But mx player has the capability to only play the audio with the screen off, so thats what im doing now. Its easy enough to get the audio synced, and the batt drain isnt too bad, 16% for 130 minutes movie (DTS downmixing). a 40 minutes itunes web dl would consume about 4% if its on AC3, but i presume it would be very similar even if it was just AAC.
Until a more seamless method comes out, this is what im gonna be doing, as its easy enough, and no extra purchase required

I've played around like that in the past. It does put more load on your network and hard drives though. Tolerable but unfortunate.
I'm giving BT another try. Picked up a car mp3 3.5mm out unit from amazon for $8.50 or so that I'll be able to sync up easily enough. i can plug my own headphones up and plug it into the USB chargers at my bed. I'll see how that works. Hopefully this will be an option.
How nice would it have been if they just gave the headphone out thru remote capability like the roku 3....sigh
Do update on how well your new plan goes. Thanks!

Any update or progress on development of using bluetooth headphones without sync issues?
When you guys described the worsening audio offset which cannot be corrected because it keeps getting worse over time, how long does it take to see it noticeably worsened?
The reason i am asking is I finally was able to install Settings.apk and paired my bluetooth headphones (Noontec Zoro wireless BT headphones).
When I played a movie in XBMC, I didn't think the audio offset was that bad. Better yet, I didn't notice that it worsened over time. I watched it for over 20 minutes and didn't notice any change. I did a manual offset of .4 sec to compensate and it seemed fine after 20 minutes or so. Will I notice it after more time?
The only thing on my config that might be different than others is that in XBMC 13.1 Gotham stable release, is that I have Hardware acceleration enabled but I unchecked both Mediacodec and libstagefright (it is the only way that I can watch xvid without stutter and doesn't seem to affect mp4 h264 movies). Maybe someone else can try this?
Also, movies I played on Plex shows the same...small lag but somewhat tolerable and it didn't seem to get worse over time, but I only did this for about 5 minutes.

Have had pretty good luck with xbmc 13.2 beta rc1.
Am using this BT adapter but only have a few issues now. This syncs up to the fire TV and the audio stays in sync with xbmc.
As I stated in my review, the channels are reversed. Not a real big deal as I can switch my headphones manually to the other ear. After checking my son's BT headphones too, I'm beginning to think all the Chinese imports have their audio connections backwards.
As I watch the show tonight, I can say that the BT alternative is working pretty good. I've had it set forward about 0.2sec ahead and it was quite tolerable. Seems to be getting better. Maybe next update will fix it.
Anybody else had any better luck?

Its a simple little BT receiver that allows a 1/8” headphone jack or jumper to plug into your car aux. It has a battery which lasts three or so hours with headphones plugged in.
To sync, turn on the switch and search with your phone, firetv or whatever you have with BT audio. It automatically connects. Simple. Cheap.
I actually use a pair cheapo 2.4ghz headphones I got as a gift. None audio sync issues I had using a bluetooth transmitter. I just plug it into either the headphone port on the bedroom tv or on the av receiver when I watch in the living room when I can't sleep.
these look nice

My bedroom TV has a headphone port the side and no av receiver. That tv is technically a computer monitor with hdmi and a tuner. So that may explain why it still has a headphone port. However, many larger TV's still have an audio out (line level, red and white RCA) that can be used with wireless headphones. There are also toslink to analog convertors or HDMI audio extractors that you can get for about $25. You could use one to achieve line level audio.
I have been researching TV's since the living room tv is old. My living room TV is ridiculous it is HD but it is a 50" plasma from 2004 and it was built before ASTC HD tuners were put in TV sets. The last owners left it because it was a pita to move, I can't imagine how much it would have cost in 2004.
The headphone I mentioned appears not to be a good choice in the line level audio output scenario.

Then I am not sure how this approach would be different than using bluetooth headphones other than you getting lucky with this particular unit compared to others. It is bascially a bluetooth headphone without the headphones.
It's great that it works for you though.

You're right. They are no different. What I did notice is the audio did not seem too out of sync if at all with the newer version of xbmc.
Of course, it could just be a coincidence with a movie that had it audio set out of sync already...I don't know. I may have been more tolerant of the prep work in order to get it to work, pause the video, adjust delay forward, unpause and verify.
The point for me was that it was easy. The BT receiver could have been a more expensive one or cheaper. I don't think it matters too much right now as the BT audio is just an unintended positive side effect.
Amazon may enable a better fix soon or someone may mod a custom image with support if the bootloader opens. Its possible. Either way, I'm happy with the amazon TV. There a bunch more options and capabilities available on this xbmc box than any of the others I've had.
After seeing a post on reddit about someone wondering if this is possible I decided to try if I could get this to work. Could be useful if you could listen to the audio by headphones plugged into your phone and watching on the big screen. Found a solution quite fast in BubbleUPnP and using it's ability to send the audio to a DLNA renderer, this feature is called Audio Cast. You will need:
-Rooted FireTV with Xposed installed
-BubbleUPnP and the license, or you will be limited to 20 minutes audio streaming per app Launch.
-Mouse plugged into your FireTV, or droidmote/wukong/etc
Install BubbleUPnP and the license on your FireTV and enable BubbleUPnP in Xposed, then reboot your FireTV. Next you will need to install BubbleUPnP on any other DLNA renderer app on your phone/tablet/whatever you want to stream the audio to. Open BubbleUPnP on your phone so that the version on your FireTV can find it. Then open up BubbleUPnP on your FireTV, open the sidebar and as the renderer select your phone. Next to the renderer you can see a switch which you can use to turn Audio cast Off/On.
I would recommend first starting your movie/episode in XBMC before enabling Audio Cast, this seemed to give me the best result. So play your media in XBMC, enable Audio Cast and go back to XBMC and resume. You will notice there is a delay in the Audio. Use the Audio offset to correct for this. I needed to set the Audio ahead by 1.8 seconds to get it to sync up properly. However this can vary quite a bit between plays and it can be tricky to find the correct offset to fix the delay.
If you experience audio drops try increasing the audio buffer length in the BubbleUPnP Audio Cast settings on your FireTV. Not a perfect solution but seems to work well enough for the occasional movie when someone else is sleeping in the same room.
This is the response I got from bubbleupnp back last year when I was trying to get this to work.
Hi,
Audio Cast cannot technically be used to send synced audio with video. There is no way around it.
The only valid use of Audio Cast with videos is if you are only interested in the audio part of the video.
Cheers,
Bubblesoft

Tried as much as I could, it wasn't a solution. Ended up with better results with xbmc and audio delay with BT headphones. Until a real.solution comes ....
If you have bluetooth headphones there is obviously no need for anything like this. I don't have any so listening through my phone can be useful at times.
There will always be a delay if you stream the audio to your phone while watching on the FireTV. However XBMC audio offset works well and it usually doesn't take too much effort to get the video and audio to sync up.
So I've never really noticed before until I was setting up my amp and speakers at a new place but my YouTube seems to be only doing stereo on the Shield. Netflix has the 5.1 working but I can't get surround to work in YouTube. I have hdmi out to the AVR and then hdmi to tv. The AVR is set to Direct, meaning that it will do whatever the signal is coming over the HDMI cable. It's saying that it's PCM. Checked settings but didn't find any specific output settings on the Shield or the YouTube app.
I was just wondering if this was normal. I don't REALLY need 5.1 in YouTube.
afaik youtube doesnt support surround sound... same thing on mine also.

That would be good. It sucks that running the 5.1 test videos on youtube just plays in stereo.
Hi
I bought the tv box for 3 month ago. Just problem with different streaming apps. One app was complaining no Google play service app, but it was there. Using AIDA64 I could see that service was not registrated . Updated Google service framework and then that worked.
Now a streaming service for my free local tv have started sending all new series and movies in dolby digital format but older in standard stereo. Older movies and news has audio but all movies using dolby digital has no audio. If looking in audio settings all selection för digital audio is grayed out and cant be set. Have tried everything as using older versions of my app. Nothing works. The seller of the box has no technical knowledge att all.
Any idea? I have now bought a Google Cromecast home tv box 4k and that works perfect on dolby digital audio
