I all.
So, i have this guy trying to sell me a S5 that he claims he found it in the cinema, the phone is in mint condition, it has the lether case and no scratch at all, but, i think that the phone is stolen, don't know why, but my 6th scenth says it is stolen.
I do want to buy it, my S2 needs retirement the poor old bastard lol, although, i'm afraind of buying the phone and then for some reason, the operator might block the IMEI, and then there goes 200€ to the garbage.
Is there anyway i can change the IMEI of the phone securely?
I there is, will it saty forever with that IMEI? i mean, if i whant to root, install custom ROMs.
What do i have to know to do the change?
Thanks in advance.
Don't buy it.
Trust your instincts.
could also be fake but the fact that it's probably stolen is enough.
Xda won't teach you how to change imei as any one and everyone could change it on a stolen phone.

There is no way to change IMEI on Galaxy. You can only erase and broke EFS partition with all the consequences...

since everybody knows that changing the imei of the phone is illegal..
how about faking the imei so i can get the most out of the data plan of my grandfathered tmobile android phone
is there any trick out there?
please i need help this is driving me insane to a whole different level that have never reached before ((((((((
I didn't hear anything like this, but I don't think it is possible. Maybe you can modify the Android source to let you set the imei, but I'm not sure
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA Premium App
I think faking imei won't help you. IMEI identifies phone, not the "person". SIM card identifies the "data plan" you want to use.
IMHO you are looking for sim card cloning / spoofing. But both simcards can't be "online" at the same time so it won't work, possibly will get both sim cards banned.
But feel free to try
NO sim clonning that sounds criminal, i dont need that.
i want to make think tmobile that my imei is a different imei because the system
seems to recognize that i have an Android device within their database of
imeis registred.. so they want me to sign up for
their Android Data Plans :/
when i put the sim card on my Windows Mobile phone it works like a charm
so i would like to fake that i have the imei of my windows phone on the android
so it picks the unlimited plan that i have..
it would have to be a build/rom or app for android that does the trick
but it would have to be reversible if i dont want to have the feature anymore
i'd like to know if this is possible?
if that's the case i'm sure other people other than me would be interested on it
too, there are a lof of people that have the tzones and/or the 9.99 plan and are
having to stick to their winmo devices... or a nexus one.
according to my knowledge imei changing is illegal, probably can be done (dunno how), but you won't learn how to do it here.
Sr. that's why i said what i said on the first post
im not trying to achieve change the imei, i'm trying to fake it.. thanks.
sir your first post is invalid because:
"since everybody knows that changing the imei of the phone is illegal."
you are not supposed to discuss it here.
"how about faking the imei so i can get the most out of the data plan"
you know it is illegal and yet - you asked this next question?! how is faking imei to get most out of the data plan suddenly not illegal?
IMEI faking could be used for legalization of stolen cell phones and ofc there is no guarantee you don't want to do the same, even though you will reply to this post and say something else.
há, you think by saying this "even though you will reply to this post and say something else" you are ahead of the game?
get a life..
sugestions please....

Ahhh.... That's a bit weird from tmobile... Do you know if you'll be able to ring them up and negotiate something?
i work picking strawberries for less than minimum wage, but i live in méxico
i go back and forth using my tourist visa.. i was able to afford the 9.99 plan
but can't afford a 30 dlls plan............

This may seem harsh, but you basically answered your own question. Faking the imei is still illegal and dishonest. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it.
You're trying to fix the wrong problem. You don't need a fake imei, you need a better paying job.
better paying job... i know! :'(
i may still have to stick to my horrible windows mobile phone that crashes all the apps :'(

Try and trace the owner or hand it in would be a good start.
Trace the owner, and if you cannot find them, hand it in to the nearest police station to where you found it.
Alternatively contact the carrier who can trace the sim number or mobile number of the phone and find the owner.
keep it, if you drop yours you have a spare one ,
unless the owner calls the phone. than you can give it back >.>
If you dont hand it in you will probably find the IMEI gets blocked by the carrier when it gets reported missing, so wont be of much use as a phone anyway.
Hand it in, if it was your phone I am sure you would wish for the same.
shouldn't be too hard to trace the owner, so do it.
If you can turn WiFi and gps on and leave the phone powered on (Samsung dive) else turn it in.
Step 1: Check the call log and call one of the numbers the person dials often. That's sure to be a friend/family member of the person.
Step 2: Tell them you found the phone and let them put you in touch with the owner.
Step 3: Return the phone to its rightful owner.
Step 4: Enjoy the boost in Karma.
The owner uses Samsung Dive and is tracking you right now. It's a guy, he's 6'4," 250lbs, and read this thread on XDA. Now what are you going to do
I don't understand the question. Is that just me?
There's only 1 thing to do, and that's ring someone (as suggested above) and return it to its rightful owner.
Edit: Alternatively, check the email address of the owner and get in touch with them that way.

What ever you do, never hand it to the police. it will end with them. This should be the last option If all the others don't work. Better it ends with the rightful owner as first option or you as last but one option.
What would you do if you found 5000 dollars on the floor? Hand it to the police? If you can't trace it, they can't.

if u do anything but hand it in or try to find the owner you are a common thief.....why even ask the question,

I dont think you can call the guy a thief, he found the phone, did not steal it from anybody.
Now morally, thats a different matter.
I would try and trace the rightfull owner and return his phone.

I agree with OrionCarl in this case. Just because you find something doesn't mean it doesn't belong to someone else. Keeping it when you know that it does is the equivalent of stealing it.
Cool story bro!
if you can access the phone check for a HOME number, alternatively check the phones own number and contact the provider and report it...

Hello xda
I ask this because my phone was stolen and I reported it to my carrier (forgot to activate cerberus after instalation of PA), but I have to know if there is the possibility that the bastart who took my nexus from me could activate it by changing IMEI by one that isn't reported.
I dont want to know how to do it, I want to know if it's hard to do the change. I like to think my phone is now bricked

If it comforts you a little bit the bastard who took your phone probably has no clue wtf to do with it other than play with it. Besides its hard to do and he probably don't known the first thing about changing anything on a android phone.
Yes, it can be done with the right tools and knowledge.

If you hand it into the police (At least in the UK) after a period of time, 4 weeks or something, it legally becomes yours if no-one claims it and you can go and collect it
Hand it In its being tracked
Not only that, but a local mobile network operator have no right to say you can keep a phone that does not belong to you, just because it was lost
Only the police can do that, and only after they try to find the rightful owner / give them a chance to report it lost and have it returned

If I hand it in - who will give me all the funds i invested? Nobody. Hope isnt at my side.
Yes, I was dumb to replace the broken parts myself. But whats done, its done.
So. Can I use Google Play? Can I use WIFI or 4G?

Wipe data & system and install a new rom via Odin and you're done.
Wipe data removes 99% of tracking apps, wiping system removes the rest.
Use a custom recovery and delete everything than use a custom rom/kernel and flash modem/bootloader files too via odin

not quite
It is traceable via IMEI.
But someone who lost this phone (apparently it looks like this) and phone was bought on contract, there is huge possibility that someone will block IMEI on network provider. After that 2 ways left. Sell it to foreign country or use it w/o mobile network.

oh, yes you guys are right. forgot the old ways now that everything is smart. On "dumb" phoness you were able to change the imei with the right tools, never tried it on smarthphones. And that has something to do with him because ... ? phones don't comit crimes, people do. Let's say police was tracking a phone for some reason, once the criminal sells the phone it will be tracked for an X amount of time until police knows for certain the buyer doesn't have anything to do with the seller. Anyway more than 50% of phones out there have been used in... unapropiate way from prank calling to showing the latest vid of a gf to your friends (and you know what I mean by prank and vid).
Let us not make any more of what it is: a found phone, repaired, end of story. Nobody will come after it and if it does you can show the owner the receipt for spare parts. If he is as honest as wanting his/her phone back at least they can pay for repairs.
Just use it if you really wanted to... The authorities aren't gonna bother raiding your home and arresting you and stuff just for the sake of a lost phone. So just use it normally. If they blocked it then fine just use it as a gaming device or multimedia device. If someone tracked it then give it back to them and charge them the cost for fixing it. If it really came into accusing you of stealing(which has 0.1% chance of happening) then dare them a lie detector test.

Hi guys, as someone of you maybe know, I've accidentally loss all EFS partition of my SMG955F s8 plus phone, I asked a lot of technicians, and all of them agreed that with triped knox, it's impossible to recover the phone, and I'm pretty sure that with root and triped knox Samsung won't recognize the warranty.
Some guy on a paid service, says that if I get the phone to Samsung official service, they can recover the phone for additional charge. And that only Samsung can fix that kind of mess.
I wrote to local Samsung contact, explained the situation and the fact that the phone is rooted, and they say me that have to get the phone to the nearest Samsung service.
But they doesn't even know what root is.
So. I'm guessing if maybe someone of you know if its true that Samsung can fix a really messed up rooted knox triped phone without warranty for additional charge.?
Thanks for your responses.
Yeah their technicians are your regular hackers. They have every rom from every Samsung device, ready to flash to your device. I once had a talk with such a guy and he said he could recover any bad flash.
