[Q] blacklisted s5 question - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys not sure if this is against xda policy but i got fooled into buying a blacklisted s5, it worked fine for a few weeks now its blacklisted, my understanding is there's not much one can do about it but i got a broken s4 on the same network (sasktel) is there any way that i could swap the imei's?

Contact the seller and tell him to give you a refund. If you can't get in touch with him you're stuck.
I don't think there's anything else you can do besides that.

Maybe he got it from craigslist? Never buy anything from Craig's list. You were better off buying your nexus 4 from Google play.

It all depends on how you bought it. If you paid cash, you might be out of luck. If you used a credit or debit card, then perhaps your provider offers some kind of refund policy. If it was PayPal, then you can likely get the refund.
Bummer...hope you used PayPal.

Lol sorry guys i probably shouldve added more details..
Ok.. Heres the story... Transaction took place on Craigslist..
So I had a blue color galaxy S3 and didnt like the color, traded it for a new nexus 4.. Nexus 4 was fine, and I was really wanting a titanium S3.. Found the S3 and bought it.. Sold the nexus 4 to a guy for 310.. The nexus 4 was working great until yesterday.. Guy calls me up thinking i sold him a stolen phone.. As far as I knew it was a good phone, i check the imei and it says its been reported stolen, so i offer to give the guy back his money.. Now im stuck with a blacklisted N4.. Need help. Anywhere I can go to revive the phone? Or anywhere I can sell it to? What are my options? Is it possible to flash a ROM or do something when rooted to change the Imei..? At least make it useable because the guy i originally traded with decided to change his number and now im out $310.. whats the best thing to do? I cant go to the cops, they will tell me im associated with the theft, asked tmobile they want to fill out a bull**** report..
is there a way to flash a Rom or something to maybe hide the Imei or something? Use a different carrier? unlock it even though its unlocked?
Or should i get my mini screw drivers and start to disassemble it to sell for parts? Man i feel ****ty doing this.. I mean im so against stolen things and i just hate to deal with it ugh

That's unfortunate
Buy an N4 with broken screen for cheap and replace the mainboard. Installing other roms won't help you. Or replace the screen with your phones screen. Do wat is the easiest to replace.

You can buy stuff off of CL, but you have to be smart. I've bought dozens of phones off CL (and sold) and was only burned once. I bought an Atrix 4G with a wonky touch screen. Actually, I bought an EVO 4G with a wonky touch screen too but that was just my fault, I showed up to meet the guy a little intoxicated lol. Anyway, when I bought my Nexus 4 (new) I had the guy bring the receipt from Google Play and give it to me. I also asked a lot of questions....

Those are both rather silly remarks.
You're a victim, why would the police be anything but sympathetic to you? And it's not a bs report, it's a report detailing the crime. Maybe they can track the original scammer down with that report. Maybe your insurance co will reimburse you with that report. Don't lose whatever small chance you have by being too lazy to fill out some paperwork.

You sure the dude just didn't "buy" the nexus 4 and then give you back a non working Nexus 4 and you give him his money back. Did the nexus you get back match up with the one you gave to him. Like serials and stuff

If this helps... I'm from Belgium and I bought my phone off someone from England.
Got a pretty good deal too (as it was new)
The catch was that it was blacklisted too...he sent me the reportcard and apparantly that stated that it was only blocked by 2 providers. None of which I am using.
So maybe switching providers could work OR since Belgium has no (or nearly no) providers linked to the phones as they don't come in deals the phone just works, blacklisted or not. So try selling it abroad and buy buy yourself a new one.
I doubt that you can unblock it.
Is it blacklisted by T-mobile or Google? If it is blacklisted by T-mobile it should work on AT&T and it will definitely work overseas.

No it won't as all the major US carriers started reporting to a national blacklist database as of October of 2012.

The database is launched, but the carriers are not sharing IMEI's yet. Bad ESN Verizon phones work on other carriers and blocked T-mobile or AT&T phones will still work on the others network. The thing is, not only does the IMEI have to be entered into the database, but the carrier manually has to apply that to their own database to effectively block it from their network.
And, a blacklisted phone will most definitely work overseas.

do the report... you may be able to have the phone you traded blacklisted after all the person you dealt with is the one that has committed a crime not you

Rent a center locked galaxy note 4

Hi guys!
I have a galaxy note 4 that is locked by rent a center. I'm pretty new to flashing roms and such so I wanted to get the opinion of someone more skilled than me. My note 4 is on the straight talk network, I need to get the lock off and also need to know if it's possible to switch this phone to boost mobile from straight talk thanks in advance for timely responses

No not possible I bought the phone from someone else not knowing it was from Rent a center. They locked me out about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I called rent a center and they won't do anything for me.

Didn't know it was stolen when I bought it, but tough break I guess
The phone is toast as far as it being used as a cell.
The imei is blacklisted which means no matter what network you use it on (sim unlocked) it won't register. As-is right now, there's only one solution, and you are not going to find it on here as it's illegal (that's the only hint I'll give out)
off topic, why would you even go through rent-a-center, besides the obvious monthly payments?

Will this new root help me unlock my weird t-mobile GS7 edge?

Hey guys,
i got this legit t-mo gs7e which came for free through this promotional agency. it is clearly branded as t-mobile and only works with t-mobile US sim card, but t-mo hotline keeps saying it is not a t-mobile phone. longer description in this thread which i accidentally posted in the GS7normal section: (i asked for the thread to be moved over here to avoid double post but nothing happened)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/unlockable-t-mobile-s7-edge-t3572986
will this new root help me making any use of this phone or do i have to just buy a new one? i been on the hotlines for about 3 weeks now and about to give up and just try to sell it and buy something else, so you people are really my last resort.
also willing to tip if someone can guide me through the process.
definately a legit, not-blocked, paid-off phone, just nobody can remove the sim-lock and i need to use it both in foreign countries and on diff networks in the US.
thanks in advance,
b

I don't think there is any hack or anything to sim unlock the phone. I believe it hinges on getting your imei into the tmo database, or using a paid service. Check this post and maybe try and contact that TMobile rep: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/unlocking-sim-tmobile-t3241032/post65795953
It will not help you unlock the sim lock.
I have been watching your comments since your firdt post about yiur phone and i hate to say it but i think you are going to have to use a pay service.

thanks guys, pretty sure a paid service won't be able to unlock it, that thread yrrch mentioned also has a couple people in it w similar phones where the paid ones didn't help.. but i'll def try call that higher level t-mo rep that is mentioned in there. it is one of these "partner purchase" programs i believe.
edit: matter of fact i reached out to unlockradar.com couple days ago, they can't unlock it either.

Yeah, I guess a paid service requires that your phone be registered in the carrier's database. Then if the unlock app doesn't work, you could choose to pay. So hopefully you can reach that woman and have her help! Good luck and keep us posted
OK, so I have a question. I'm Trying to move from t-mobile to Verizon but I'm trying to keep my same phone. So no matter what I do im better off getting a new phone?
To unlock that device you'll need to find a store that has the equipment to do it. There are boxes out there that unlock immediately through a connected cable.

Are you sure of this statement ? I've read that T-Mobile App SIM lock is impossible to hack.

The models that have unlock device apps can only be unlocked (Tmobile metropcs possibly others?) will have to be unlocked thru the app (AFAIK) other models (certain models, which vary accordingly) can be unlocked instantly thru cable.
Now, is it "impossible to hack"? I dunno? I don't think anything is impossible to hack.... (don't read into that, I'm not saying it's been done, I'm merely making a statement that's all)
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy S7 EDGE on Android 7.0 Nougat, here's the instructions how to do it!
I believe the device was purchased from Samsung.com and only those devices are not recognized by T-Mobile unlock app.. I heard that you've to call T-Mobile business support instead of technical support for this issue.. I had the same wth an S7 and was discussing in S7 forums

S7 edge blocked imei

I recently bought an S7 edge however the dodgy guy who sold me it since blacklisted the handset. Is there any way of reversing this without the provider as they won't help me. Cheers.
I'm not positive but just the other day I saw some root app that supposedly could change your imei and couple other settings. Does it work for the s7 edfe? I'm not sure. Do I know what it was called? No. But I thought I'd tell you so you could maybe search around and find it. I'm fairly sure I saw it in the xda labs app section on the phone.
I'm 99% sure there are no apps, even for rooted users, that are able to change the IMEI number. Also, we cannot discuss it here @ XDA

It can not b discussed because it is a black listed device which someone has reported stolen to their provider.
Blacklisted device are published so that all providers will not touch it.
Since the person who bought may have purchased 2nd or 3rd handed stolen device even though the seller was upfront about it being blacklisted.
Changing imei on device that may or is reported stolen is considered illegal and breaks XDA rules.

The discussing of changing IEMIs is not allowed on XDA! Changing it is illegal in most countries. And most countries it is considered equivalent to a felony and punishable by prison and fines.
Thats all there is to it. Thread Closed

Blacklisted

Hi guys, my G6 was recently blacklisted in Canada due to non payment...
At this point, is the phone locked? So it will need to be unlocked.
Or being blacklisted is another story? Like it will work again only if it had a new (different) iemi?
If so, can I change the iemi by myself?
Thanks
Only way it will work now is with a sim from a different country. Otherwise you have a fancy WiFi brick.

If so, why when I asked phone repair shops they said it can be fixed... They ask a lot of money for it.
Only way the owner can get the IMEI unblocked is to pay the network what you owe and ask them to revoke the block.
Discussion of IMEI is banned on XDA as it is illegal in many countries and the site doesn't want to be shut down.
The repair shops offer to replace the motherboard, which comes with a different IMEI number and costs a lot.
Hello,
the imei can not be changed, and if it is it is perfectly illegal.
why not pay what you need and find in exchange a functional phone !?
It would be too easy not to pay off your debt and help you get around your operator's punishment
Thanks guys for the replies.
Actually the phone I'm paying for it but I have made an important delay on one of my bills, personal issues... This is life
Now I'm paying for it but the carrier will unblock the imei in months... So nothing is illegal here.
But I understand and respect the fact that's we can't talk about it here.
Sorry!
