I know the responses are going to be biased, but I just want everyone's take on my situation.
I was just able to pre-order the Nexus 6. I was so close to ordering the Z3 yet I had the chance to get the N6 today. Yet, I still want the Z3 instead! Am I dumb for wanting the Z3 instead?
I also like the fact the Z3 (d6603) is available from Sony's US site and they offer the extended warranty.
Any thoughts? Would anyone trade their Z3 for a N6? I've had all the Nexus devices and I guess I want a change but I do like Z3's features. Any input would be great.

I think the biggest thing is the phone size for me the z3 is almost the perfect size. I would have prefered a 5 inch screen size instead of the 5.2 and the z3c is smaller than I like. If you're comfortable with the n6's screen size then go for that.
I kind of would like the smaller size. I think I'm jumping on the Nexus/stock android bandwagen. I like the Z3s waterproofing, double tap to wake, insane battery life and awesome looks! Damn I think I made up my mind already, ha

I would say give the Z3 a try before the N6 arrives and make your decision from there. I would like to try the N6.
I came to the z3 from the n5. I considered the n6, but like it was mentioned before, its too big for me. I also like some of the extras included that just makes the near stock experience that much better, for me at least.
I prefer the Z3 despite getting a few defective ones from a bad batch eventually I got a good one (4th). The Z3 has expandable memory, is thinner and unlike AMOLED no need to worry about burn in, last but not least the Z3 has great speakers and excellent battery life without even Android 5.0 just imagine how much better it will be with 5.0.
I'd try one first. It does have a lot of problems. The camera is very temperamental and takes absolutely rubbish pics on Auto, and is only really good on 20mp manual in my opinion. It's slower and laggier than competition, on simple things like loading wallpaper when you turn it on, coming out of Apps like dialer when you finish a call takes forever, and it's a little unwieldy.
Add to that the screen is much too blue, and you lose the brightness when you adjust the white balance.
Personally i'd stick with your old phone and wait it out.
I prefer Z3 because of the size. Nexus 6 is too big.
I prefer the Z3. I had the Nokia 1520 so I know the size of the Nexus 6 and I also have the Nexus 5. I went with the Z3 over the Nexus 6 because of PS Remote Play and the water resisitance. Also, the phone has expandable memory which is a BIG plus, since I would prefer not to use the Cloud services because I travel a lot.
I pre-ordered the phone from T-Mo and did not know or expect what the phone would be like until I received it, but as for size the Z3 is definitely in the sweet spot. Its large enough to surf and watch videos but not too large as to not being able to fit in your pocket. I had to take my Nokia 1520 out of my pocket from time to time just to sit down without it digging into my hip because the pockets were not deep enough.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Z3. I definitely want a change. Like I said, I've had all the Nexus devices before, and as much as I like stock Android, it does get a bit boring. I used the L preview before i sold my N5, and I just wasnt impressed like i was with gingerbread, ICS, and KitKat. Also, this point in my life, I just don't have time to flash ROMs/tinker with my device, which is something I'm always tempted to do with the Nexus.
Regarding the size, I like how other OEMs have features to deal with the size. Such as one handed mode with the Note and LG G3. So that makes having a big phone more practical. The N6 isn't like that. I would feel it would be difficult to handle the phone. Especially when I have my baby daughter in one arm, I couldn't use my phone, ha.
The camera seems like a hit or miss as well. That's ok with me. I'm no photographer, but it looks like it takes decent enough pics.

I have Z3 and I am considering to order N6. Main reason is the camera which is a let down. But there is one thing which I love about Z3 and its the battery life. I really don't have to worry about running out of battery with this one. I have heard some news that N6 wouldn't be that great and I really don't want to go back to charging by noon which I had with M8.
If the N6 has the same camera as the Moto X then you wont be seeing any improvement over the Z3 as far as I know.
Nexus 6 is way too big for mere mortals. I'm glad I didn't wait. I can't believe they only released one size of the Nexus 6, that size being frigging gigantic.

I think the one big up the N6 camera has on the Z3 is optical image stabilization.
I will go for the Nexus 6 because of custom ROM support. There are more ROMS available for the Z2 than for the Z3, period.
f.
Its barely even 2 months since official release, and a large number of people have only got it since mid to late october when it released in their areas. How can you campare it to the Z2 development, which has been out for much longer?

don't forget, nexus 6 will only have android 5.0 (and above)... it probably won't have a kitkat backport
for the nexus 5, it took a while for custom ROMs to port their changes onto the (then) new 4.4 kitkat sources... for the Z3, you'll probably get a couple of different ROMs once a working CM11 port is created

I have to admit my eye's been caught by this little beauty. The screen is the big attraction for me, particularly the size and the proper multitouch.
For anybody who's had experience with both the Galaxy S and the Nexus One with Froyo, would it be a good decision to trade in my Nexus and get the Galaxy?
I own the nexus outright with no contract, and I'm due an upgrade so could get the Galaxy for minimal expenditure, although stuck then on a 2 year contract.
I'm slightly disappointed about the lack of a camera flash on the Galaxy, although it's not something I ever use much.
Any thoughts?
I'm in exactly the same boat as you.
If they say it'll get froyo soon, or if I see some comprehensive dev going on, I'll probably get it, but I'm still very worried about Gingerbread. Samsung track record on updates is abysmal, right now I'd be shocked if we got it.
There is a lot of talk over the lack of a flash, although as a keen photographer I really don't understand why. Having a flash right next to the lens is the worst place for it anyway.
Besides, it all detracts from the fact that the lens and sensor on the Galaxy S are remarkably good for a mobile phone class of camera, the colour and exposure are very good, and produce very usable results. The lens itself goes down to F2.8 so works well in low light situations, and the screen is bright enough that you can see what you're photographing in bright sunlight, these are far more useful to me than a little LED thats going to put horrible highlights on peoples faces and in their eyes
This is a pic I posted in another thread, taken on the Galaxy S, and is completely untouched apart from a 50% reduction. The colour and exposure are exactly as they were captured. The white balance is spot on, the saturation is good although a little heavy in the greens. Its in focus and reasonably sharp.

Although if you plan to be photographing drunk mates in the pub late at night, then yeah you probably need a flash and dont care so much about image quality, because such pics are never very flattering
Right now, if you have 2.2, you might miss some of the extra features, but the Sammy is gonna get 2.2 soon too, and then there'll be no comparison. I dont have a Nexus One, but I've used the Galaxy S and an HTC Desire side by side, and there is no comparison, am soo glad I waited

thanks for your impressions and image.
from the shots ive seen the camera quality does indeed appear to be above most mobile phone cameras. for me, the pictures are quite nice considering it is a phone camera and readily available at all times.
the flash would have been a nice addition, but the same as trav, i wouldnt use it all that often, and agree that phone flashes are weak to begin with and dont add all that much.

I'm pretty sure we'll get 2.2 on this phone... Samsung said they'll do it, but their word counts for very little obviously after the Behold 2. But market pressure should make them upgrade it. The question really is about Gingerbread. I know the Nexus One is going to get that, but who here can say they expect Samsung to rewrite Touchwiz for an update designed for UI upgrades? That's the real problem here. I can't be sure if this phone has as much future support as the Nexus One.
The Nexus has a flash camera, which is important, but it looks like in every other hardware regard, the Galaxy S wins out. It's all about software now.
youtube. com /watch?v=xAqZ5Hk96QY
I don't know whether I'm being naive, but I'd assumed that by the time gingerbread comes out, the galaxy will be well and truely rooted and it'll be a matter of the necessary community existing to put new versions of android on it.
I do have a slight suspicion that the Nexus One is the better bet in the longer term, but the Galaxy looks so tasty right now!
However, given the shelf life of phones these days, the question will probably be irrelevant in 6 months time when we'll be looking at the latest 2ghz dual-core multi-camera behemoths.
What I'm really wondering is - if the Galaxy S is a significant enough upgrade over the Nexus to make it worthwhile - to be a noticable improvement day to day.
Very good question austinchimp!
If you are hesitating about buying this phone, I would suggest you to wait because if it does not have the features you've always wanted on a phone, sooner or later you'll continue to search for a different phones. That is an expensive strategy. I've waited pretty long for a phone as the SGS, and I don't regret buying it. I don't care about the hype of Iphone 4 or HTC Evo 4G, I love my Sammy.
Hmm interesting, looks like there is no touchwiz 3.0. Although all other samsung apps are there. Is it going to be end for custom UIs?
here is a photo i took the other day indoors with no flash just a light on.. great photo with this camera.

Does anyone speak enough Italian to understand what they're actually saying? Is it not just showing a hacked-on "Froyo style" launcher thing rather than a Froyo update from Samsung?
It's not froyo. It's Eclair running without that much of the touchwiz interface. The notification bar still has the touchwiz though.
I want to buy cheaper smartphone so I need help to choose between Sony Xperia S, Google Nexus 4 LG, Samsung S II or HTC One S
I doubt between Sony and LG
I don't like the fact that Xperia S has not responsive buttons, bad view angle, not enough support by android updates, low quality of camera shooting at night, i hate the lg nexus because it is made of glass and easy breakable, low quality camera, low internal storage without card slot, I think that LG is not quality brand
N4.
Definitely the Nexus 4.

wrong comparison, should be N4, GS3, Droid Dna and Note 2
Nexus 4.
if you are ever going to drop your phone and dont believe in cases... then you need the at&t or international verson of the gs2.
Nexus 4 by a long shot. The other phones can't even compete on many levels
I wouldn't be put off just because it's LG, it has easily one of the best build qualities for an android phone
The camera isn't bad by any means, it's in fact been praised by many professional photographers for producing realistic photos which you can edit yourself. Plus it's not as easy to break as you might think from reading some of the threads on here
Top of the line current generation hardware vs previous generation hardware, which I think would be the middle of the pack currently.. no contest.

HEY buddy ! I am a Nexus 4 user from India, Got my phone on 1st Dec although ! No wait for me, It is a fantastic deal man !!! Nexus 4 is a pure Android phone man ! Sooooo Smoooooth ! Benchmarked it with Antutu and scored 15545, when i was on stock ! Then flashed Faux123's mako kernel 002beta4 ! and now it scored 17k ! There is zero lag in the phone man ! I am in love with this **** ! LOL
what about camera of nexus, i heard that it does not have not sure if digital or optical zoom?
if I buy silicone case and a bumper would that prevent from breaking the glass?
which one has longer battery life xperia or nexus?

I don't have the phone yet, but I digress...
Unfortunately, nothing to my knowledge besides Japanese 'super phones', as well as some other concept phones, has optical zoom, yet. Miserable, in my opinion, as the technology has been there for years (look up 'origami lens').
As for digital zoom, in my not-so-humble opinion, it is an absolute farce and one of the most misleading advertising 'perks' to ever be baked into a product. It does nothing but stretch the pixels on an existing photograph, decreasing quality and limiting what you could have caught in your shot. Post-processing (ie. cropping) can often yield higher-quality results than can on-the-fly digital zoom, so to me it is largely pointless.
So yes, to my knowledge, the N4 has digital zoom...but I strongly encourage you to avoid using it all too often, unless you need to effectively crop a picture that you will be emailing/texting or such...then it has a bit of a point.
(okay, admittedly, it does have a bit of a point on phones, but I just can't stand it when I see a camera advertised as having some ridiculous level of digital zoom, as if it is some amazing thing...far too many times have I heard people who are shopping for a lower-end camera get caught up on comparing digital zoom factors)
---
Edit: As for the bumper bit, from what I have read, the phone *does* break relatively-easily, if you were to drop it, especially on a hard surface. Having a case/bumper does, per my reading, significantly decrease the chance of this happening.
The n4 is in a different league compared to those two. Its not even comparable.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 4 is by far the newest and most powerful of the bunch you listed.
so neither of them offers optical zoom?
I can't buy the Nexus 4 from google play store, because still my country is not listed, what do you think what will be price to buy from somewhere else after December 12 ?
Which one's battery last longer, every site has different results
I just came out of the S2 to get the N4 and I have to say that the N4 beats it out of the water by far. I've flashed AOKP and CM just to try to get that stock android feel and it just doesn't compare. The endless bugs drove me insane. Go for the N4, I'm positive you won't regret it at all.
can you give the buttery life of each one from experience
I don't like long goodbyes, so I'll be brief. I got myself a Google nexus 5, and so i'm stopping with testing and flashing x10. A lot of thanks to this community which have helped me since 2009. Since 2009, my x10 has gotten three lives thanks to some great developers, and it still is running great.

Keep us/me updated about how good/bad nexus 5 feels than a sony flagship. I'm thinking to change device as well
And also good luck mate. Was pleasure reading your results...
Hi all,
You really can't compare a 2009 Somy flasgship with a 2013 Nexus.
If I'd compare the Nexus 5 with the current Sony flagships (Z1, Z2, etc.) than i would definitley choose the Nexus 5.
Reason for that is that i like the pure Android experience. This is what Google has meant. LG has made the hardware and they've used the exact samen hardware for their own LG G2. So, no difference there.
But in the software they have added their one stuff. And all the others (Sony, HTC, OPPO, etc.) are doing the same.
But Android is complete already. Google itself has all the stuff i need.
Sure, other brands have somy nifty stuff build in. But all the populair stuff they create will be ported or recreated very fast. So other devices/users can use it also.
But (IMHO) most of the stuff they build is marketing. The intended and needed functionality is already on Android.
As for performance. You can't beat this device. But should you?
The HTC One, or the LG G2 are also really fast! I sure cannot notice the difference in their performances.
And if i add up the price you pay for a Nexus..... Choice wasn't that hard for me.
Best regards,
UltimateGeppie
By flagship, i meant the Z1, Z ultra etc. I heard from a lot of people that sony devices are underpowered. Read on reviews also that the 20.3 mp of Z1 could not win over wide functionality of nxs 5 and note 3 camera. Sony has good hardware but they lag on software side. Like you see, S4 is packed with sensors. Even though they're gonna copy the idea of water resistance and finger detector in S5 but people are still gonna prefer it over Z2.
Nxs 5 outnumbers all the flagships out there and that too in a reasonable price.
Iphone is expensive sh*t. The best, but useless....

Yeah I've got a Z1 and a note 3. I've found myself using my note 3 on a daily basis. Everything seems better with it.
But the Z1 has a better feel to it. Although I'm starting the like the leather feel on the note 3 more each day.
It's a shame. Sony have a good ui and build, they just can't seem to get it right. Even with the camera. my note 3 takes faster/better pics.
BTW selling my Z1 if anyone's up for an upgrade to their X 10

LOL This post pretty much explains which device you prefer.
Galaxy s5 looks more promising than Z2. Sony have got the potential but their ethics to keep everything ORIGNAL are letting them down. Samsung, cheating and stealing other brands' main things are growing so high. Nexus 5, being simple and cheaper yet more powerful is gonna ve my next choice.
Sony devices have low resale value. Samsung, iPhone can be sold in price comparable to brand new

Hey Guys and Gals
The Z3 Compact's specifications look very interesting, sharing many of the features of the flagship Xperia Z3, rolled up into a smaller package. The screen resolution is considerably lower, but with the smaller screen size, it still manages a reasonable ~319 ppi. With the flagship devices getting ever larger, its refreshing to see a manufacturer pack high-end hardware into a "mini" form factor. Great for those who don't want or don't need a 5"+ screen. Throw in PS4 remote play, its a tidy little package. Who's getting one? Would anybody consider this over its larger brother?

I just hope Sony releases the phone in North America timely, I hate when manufacturers announce new and exciting products but make us wait months and months unending till all the euphoria dies.
But the good news is that it is currently listed on both the US/CA Sony online store as "coming soon" though UK store already has it for pre-order.

Im getting one, going from a htc one m7.
I'm definitely getting this one too.. Going from my 3 year old Galaxy S2 to this and I would prefer the Z3C any day over the Z3 itself. Even if both had identical pricing I would go with Z3C only as I have a strong preference for the smaller and the right footprint of Z3C. I want an android phone that can be comfortably operated with one hand and yet offers top of the line specs.
I currently have a GS5 but don't like Samsung, i am waiting for the iPhone announcement just to see what it brings but the Z3c is looking awesome and i am seriously considering going for it. My only annoyance is i think timescape ui looks a bit outdated hope they refresh it with the Android L update.
I can't decide between the Z3 and the Z3c. Just to put things in perspective, the screen on this thing is almost as large as the HTC One M7 and the rumored iPhone 6 but the overall device size is much smaller!
I Hope So... This Smartphone is Very Interesting for Me
I got a Z1 Compact, 6 months ago. Z3 Compact is definitelly worth upgrading to.
Plus, same res but bigger screen?
No.
Definitely, as soon as its available in India, but I'm confused between the white and the mint. White because the front is white too and mint is just adorable

I know and it is possible, however i would like to keep it stock, Sony has the ability to install theme's on top of the UI and i can install nova and change alot and make it look good but there are a few elements which look really outdated like the floating apps menu, just would like them to make the UI fresh again Android L style would seem nice.

But then again that's an opinion. There are many people that won't agree with your points. So in the end they can't please everyone.
I don't think they will rush anything Android L, not even just a theme/skin. They will come with a skin when they bring out Android L for Sony devices.

Like i said will see what Android L brings for the Xperia Z3c, and will wait to see what Apple has for the new iPhone 6 and the changes of iOS8 even if i never really liked Apple pfoducts.

No, I'm from Poland. We have preorder aleady. Mint is coming.
Yes it is!
I can't seem to desire any other phone. I love the display, I love the size. Speed is good. Battery is very good (running stock CM). Not to mention the price.
Also - I love the hardware buttons (I think software buttons - like in the nexus 6p for example - are a waste of screen real estate).
Anyone upgraded and was happy doing so?
I'm in the same boat as you, my phone is almost 2 years old now but i feel no need to upgrade. Unless you live in a area with faster than 150mbs lte, want a finger print scanner, or a crystal clear screen, i would just keep it until the op4.
Had the One for just over a year now and don't feel the need for an upgrade. When I do end up upgrading this phone, it will not be another OnePlus device. The 2 and X have shown little improvements as successors to the One. There will be better options when the time comes
The OPO really opened me up to the modding capabilities of android. As so many people had grabbed the phone and experimented, there was lots of support. CyanogenMod was a key factor in my decision to get it, and I agree with @kenboyles72 : The 2 and X haven't improved enough for me to want to upgrade.
Also, there's nothing wrong with the OPO, even two years old. It still outperforms most of my mates devices
will be a better unit. BUT not that too soon.
opo will be still outstanding unit at least few more years.
Used to handle HTC models prior to opo
really appreciated opo unit.
appropriate in many ways.
I'm going to wait for the OnePlus 3 to see what it has in store, and if the price is high or it doesn't impress me with it's design and such, I'm going with the Xiaomi Mi5. I mean 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820, Fingerprint Scanner, Marshmallow, Good Camera, Awesome design and 64GB of storage for ~700AUD, I'm sold.

Is it bootloader unlocked? Or do you plan on staying on stock for several months hoping for some AOSP support only to switch again? Most of the time it's better to wait and see how popular a device is before buying as the more popular a device is the more likely it is to get a good development scene

Boot loader is locked and honestly I don't care. I don't care what Android skin I use, everyone makes a big fuss about oh I can use this and ew Touchwiz and what not and honestly I don't care. I use Google Messenger for texting, Snapchat, Reddit and Facebook Messenger. I'd be lucky to make an hour of phone calls a week. I install Google Now Launcher on the device and an icon pack, the main interaction I have with MIUI is the status bar and recents apps menu. Like looking at this, you wouldn't even know it was MIUI underneath.

OP3 or whatever ~5" Nexus device(s) come out this year.
Went to a Nexus 5x already, but keep leaning back to the OPO that's still lying around.
After The opo will be useless at 2018 i will looking into new battery techs
i was thinking to Nexus 6p, but I've see now the 820's snapdragon devices.... So I think I will wait for sure the next Nexus, if it will be nice i will buy that... And obviously, have a look to opo4
I'm waiting on the note 6... after it gets a custom recovery.
One plus 3 ( if specifications equal or above opo ).
Maybe mi5 when price drops or Next Nexus, opo is still uncomparable as price/quality ratio
Using this thing until it is too slow to use day to day...did this with my HTC g2 and m7. When they start to lag behind too much and battery dies too often, it was upgrade time. I always make sure lots of memory is free for performance.
Sent from the one and only Oneplus One
thus is cool but i am worried if there is hope of android o for us with this one or any good custom roms or any new holy **** kernels as i donot see dev with opo2 then what with opo3 opo 4 will dim
S7 Edge on Tmobile's buy one get one free deal.
I was just browsing the subforum and happened to come across this. I personally own the X which is essentially a more compact One with an AMOLED screen and expandable storage.
I would say keep the One. It's a great phone and if you compare performance of the X to the one, I'd say that there isn't a reason for you to upgrade to anything at all. If you must, go for the X. It's really a side grade if anything as both devices level one another out on terms of HW, but in all honesty, keep what you have. You guys have the best ROMs, the best revision of the 801, and the best kernels after all. Enjoy what you have.
I've had inconsistent performance with the GPS on my OPO. I'm really tempted to get a 5X now that it's $200 (plus that first month of service, right?). Didn't know how important the GPS would be to me.
