AOSP-styled stock rom - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Might as well do a thread, can you theme the stock rom as closely to AOSP as possible?
Can you have the AOSP dialer working? It seems stock rom has the telephony service inside the dialer, so replacing it should either break the phone function and/or disable the data service.
How about changing the LG-look into the holo-look? Anything to change the white background?
How about dpi? It seems 360 (75% of 480) breaks a lot of LG stock apps, including the phone ones. 380 on the other hand does not, but breaks knock on. Any personal experiences?

Samsung Stock apps. Phone and messaging apk

Hi friends.
I've been mooving around so many roms and now I finally know, that stock and stock like roms (IN MY CASE) will always end up messed up and laggy and buggy and unstable and and and...
So now I stick with MIUI, which in fact satisfies me. Except the notion, that I really like the messaging, and moreover contact book that go with the stock.
They have some really nice UI features that I love.
So the bottom line: Is there a way, I could extract those apps from Stock and install into MIUI?
If so, then how?
Installing is easy. Harder is extracting.
Any hints?
You can extract it from any CWM ROM based on Stock, but I do not think it will work -> missing Samsung frameworks, libs, etc.
Oh, that easy. Will give a try.
Yeah,I know that it will probably fail

I'd be very interested to know if you had any success with this. I've just flashed CM9RC2 and loving it, but I'm finding the dialler, contacts and calender apps to be a real let-down compared to the stock Samsung ones (so much so I might have to go back to stock ROM)
No-one has ported them - they 100% work.
I too miss these features (and the music player) enough that I went back to stock roms.

In the Theme & App session there is a MMS.apk modify that look very similar to Samsung default version.

S View Cover does not work

Hello, i just bought an S View smart cover and it does simple nothing.
I have tried google-ing this but no help at all, many people say that i need to go to settings - My Device and so on but my phone does not have that option.
Could this not work cause i have my phone root-ed with Resurrection Remix v5.2.8 - Android version 5.0.2 ?
I can see the cover unlocks the phone but the glass is useless it does not work, nothing shrinks, it does not post notifications or anythink.
S View cover was made with touchwiz and gpe roms in mind. I don't think aosp roms have support for it.
The phone unlocks due to the magnet inside the cover and the sensor inside the phone. It will unlock with any other cover which has a magnet inside, it happened on my phone with a cheap flip cover which had a magnet lock.
Yeah ok, is there any app that i could use ? or should i just change the ROM ? I had CM12.1 but it had some many problems that i had to change.
You could use GPE or maybe a touchwiz based custom rom. I know the GPE changes the screen with the cover since I've saw it myself. But I don't know how the other features work.
What is GPE ? is that a rom or ?
I thought this should work with everything no mater the ROM.
GPE or Google Play Edition is a rom based on the Google Play Edition S4. This is basically the same rom you find on a Nexus device. Pure android by Google. It's very basic. Of course, the GPE rom I'm talking about has a few customization options. Like center status bar clock, and battery text or circle icon, internet traffic in the status bar, and some others.
I think the S View cover function has to be implemented into the rom. I don't know. I haven't seen many posts about the S View cover.
Yeah ok that is interesting, yeah i tried onve the Google Play Edition, i think it was the Lite version and i had to many problems for me so i decide to change.

LP ROMs and pixel density (dpi) 320 / 360?

Currently on KK 4.4.2 (WorshipROM 8.2+) with "dpi" (or lcd density more accurately but will call it dpi as that's the term most people here use) of 360. Anything bigger and it's just looks like a kid's toy to me (i.e. an iPhone).
Anyway, I have tried a few LP ROMs and also MM ROMs but the problem I have is that unlike the KK ROM I use now, most of the LP and MM ROMs require loads of apps to be set to 480 in xposed / app settings which kind of defeats the purpose. (Also, some FC even when using app settings.) I could carry on trying a few more, but I was wondering if anyone has come across any LP (not MM - I don't like CM because it has poor battery for me) ROMs that particularly work well with such low dpis without using App Settings for loads of them.
TIA

What stock apps and processes can I safely remove or freeze?

I'm swapping most of the apps with google ones, but I need stock rom for the stability so I don't want to flash cm. Also can I change the dialer/call app, or the lock screen without losing any stability? I mean, for them to behave like stock one without any minimal bug or problem.

Describe your perfect ROM

I ask because I'm always on the hunt for my perfect ROM and I have yet to find it.
My perfect ROM would contain only what was needed to boot the phone, connect to the network and connect to wifi, and it would contain a good phone app as well. Nothing else, the bare minimum.
I don't need an SMS app, I use PulseSMS and I like it a lot.
I don't need an email app, I use Nine Mail.
I don't need a music player or an equalizer, I don't listen to music on my phone.
I don't need a browser, I use Chrome.
Everything else I do need, Contacts, Calendar, Camera, Clock etc etc, can be installed from the Play Store.
Yes, I know all about the ways to uninstall apps. The problem is if the ROM I am using upgrades, all of the apps I uninstalled come back so I have to uninstall them again.
Yes, I know how to disable apps I don't want. Several reasons why that doesn't satisfy me.
First, some ROMs include apps that can't be disabled. So if the SMS app can't be disabled and I install Pulse, now I've got two SMS apps on my phone which is a waste of space.
Second, even if the unwanted apps can be disabled, they are still there. Still taking up space that can be used by things I do want.
Yes, I know I can build my own custom ROM. I've tried it and I don't understand the process well enough to debug the myriad of problems I always run into.
Yes, I have a bare minimum approach to things like this. But consider how small the download would be for a ROM like this.
So far, Slim ROM comes the closest to what I want, but even that includes some apps I'd prefer not be included. Also, I'm not sure how active Slim is these days. There hasn't been a lot of activity over the last few months.
So, that's my perfect ROM. Active and minimal.
How about you?
What type of platform/base are you looking for? In terms of bare mobility versus stock? I can take most ROMs strip them down to the point of being functional is easy. The hard part is keeping up with kernel and platform changes.
You might want to try Velocity Rom... it's almost as bare minimum as possible although you get a messaging app(you can't avoid that since all roms out here will definitely have a messaging app and it's fine). On top of this you get all the customizations. Though I'm not currently on it, but you will like it's bareness:silly:
Just Google for Velocity rom.
Cheers!

The base doesn't matter much, as long as it works. Maybe aosp, if such a thing is possible.
For the platform, the latest and greatest, of course.

Yes, I tried Velocity. It looks good but the SMS app can't be disabled. At least in the one I tried. At least with Slim it can be.
