Verizon Bootloader Hack? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is Verizon opening up their bootloader a reality or is it even possible to hack it? I'm just wondering.

What if moto is waiting for bootloader to get unlocked

what if moto is waiting for unlocked bootloader to give out hsupa update? Think about to what if they made the bootloader locked so people could unlock the bootloader and they could use a new encryption with the update to relock it. This would be smart because if we unlock the bootloader and they make an update we wouldnt update it would be no point because we could get what ever we want with the phone through roms. but if the bootloader is broken and then they come out with HSPUA after then we would still need to update just because. Maybe devs know thhat and thats why they want to keep bootloader info under wraps and they assassinate anyone who leaks bootloader info because its a chess game between them and moto.... just a fun Easter conspiracy theory
Well.... i've been assuming for quite some time now that maybe it's actually AT&T that has their hands in Motorola keeping the bootloader locked due to AT&T supposedly wanting to test their HSUPA network to make sure it will be able to handle the massive influx of smartphones before they enable it on the newer phones. That would kinda make sense since if the bootloader were unlocked, people could just find a way around it and use HSUPA anyway. Whether or not that's the case is anyone's guess.
Very good theory you got there... :d

Ya they do, just have to flash the Telus radio.

True. But last I heard the phone isn't selling well D: .. No?
Xda app via atrix
i don't think the unlock BL can be fixed by moto.. as it's more like a hardware basis job which moto's android software update can not do anything to the bootloader.
for sure there will be more problems come out after the BL is unlocked, like: moto block the way of unlock in future updates; how to find the drivers for future android that moto will not provide.
but first of all,, bootloader need to be unlock and we can worry about all other things later.

this is because the atrix has been released only in 2 or 3 countries.
this thread makes me chuckle. wait for us to crack it and then patch it? Ha. I mean sure that works for root, but the bootloader? The DroidX has been on sale since July of last year, and that hasn't been cracked, what makes you think we'll have more luck with this phone?
plus it was AT&T taht promised the HSUPA update. If motoroloa was holding it off for their own personal reasons that would have to piss off AT&T since it means more bad press for them.
If the bootloader was cracked and hsupa was out dont u think the devs would be able to package everything together. And what idiot would update their unlocked phone knowing that the bootloader was going to be relocked. I agree with cegna....the dx has been out for sometime and the bootloader has not been cracked. There are prob more dx devs than atrix devs working on it also. If moto hadnt done a good job putting this phone together it def would have gone back already

Any unlock news for latest Verizon update?

I updated my RAZR m to the latest release from Verizon, and since I had not unlocked my bootloader yet, I know I cannot unlock it at the moment. Even if I rsd to the original 4.1.2 I still will be unable to unlock, correct?
Is there any work being done on a new unlock? I'm relatively happy with stock for now, but once cm10.x is more stable, and motors stops updating the RAZR m, I'd like to be able to flash something cool.
Thanks,

Yeah, here's your news; the new update blocked the ability to unlock. You can't unlock, even if you downgrade, but you can still root. The unlock exploit came out in April and people were told to do it, before it was locked up. Dan also said he probably won't ever run another exploit. You can root and use SafeStrap to run older SS compatible ROMs. You're SOL for the AOSP stuff, though. Don't say you weren't warned.

If your on Verizon and got the phone through Verizon do what I did before the time runs out... call them request a replacement device go through all the trouble shooting for your "issue"( I said the ear piece speaker intermittently goes out, yet works on speakerphone thus indicating its hardware related) after trouble shooting and problems still occur you get the green light for a replacement. request that they make a note to the warehouse to send you one without the update (I said because the new update caused data drops that didn't happen prior to update)... I hated having to give up my brand new device for a "like new" one but its better then having a locked device... the CSR in the chat said all devices in the warehouse will be updated 2-3 weeks after the update push so... act fast you may still have time left... if you get one with the update call them tell them your phone is working fine now and send the replacement back... or say something like the replacement is defective and again request a note to the warehouse... where there's a will there's a way....good luck

Not feeling like doing that. And i am not a Verizon user, I am with T-Mobile on the RDS/RadioComm Mod.
So I am just gonna suck it up and use it on stock, nothing wrong with it it works i like it. (Bugs me a little bit that i f up =( )
Next phone will be a stock Unlocked Phone so i don't have to worry about this, Been eyeing the HTC one Mini.
Or the Razr I. We will see... too many projects at the moment not enough money to buy a new phone.

What up with carriers locking bootloaders?

Are us At&t custom ROM users going to have to move on to greener pastures with this Knox bs or will someone unlock the s4, note 3, and s5 (when it comes out) bootloaders at some point? Just curious if anyone has any insight on this, cause if we can't unlock it I'm definitely moving on to another carrier, personally. Or at least I'll buy international unlocked or Google editions in the future. Thanks and f at&t and Knox!

Bootloader being locked has nothing to do with KNOX. And AT&T has already released an official statement a while back that said they plan on locking ALL carrier branded phones in the future.
I understand that they are locked. Now can you actually answer my question on whether or not someone will figure out how to unlock it?

How would someone know that? There have been Bounty threads out for awhile and no luck. If they are still active you can follow them--

They lock them to keep people from hard bricking their devices. If it stinks...buy a Nexus or GPE device
I think we have to wait a while till the s4 becomes old news. Then att will care less about it and there will be less updates and more time for someone to find a crack or leak for the bootloader unlock and the carriers will care less
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
I think I'll just be done with at&t then probably. It's too bad that companies won't allow you to do whatever you want with YOUR phone. That's why I never got an iPhone! I actually don't mind running stock TW but I don't want to be stuck with it forever. Thanks everyone!

Sad part is until it's paid off it not really your phone. Since they have a warranty for a year to cover issues it only makes sense. Now if they would provide an unlock after that warranty is up and the contract is settled then it would make sense.
Att will never have a unlocked device again, watch and see.....
And these are the reasons I'm going to be moving over to T-Mobile or nexus devices. Just tired of AT&T all together.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Another view:
I will stay with ATT as Verizon is too expensive and TMO in my area has sh**ty reception. ATT has been perfect for me in that area.
Also, I have been a heavy flasher for almost 4 years. The phones now are powerful enough that flashing roms is not that important to me as it once was. If I can get root with Xposed/Gravity Box/3Minit I am good. Plus there are fairly good backup apps now that Nandroiding isn't that critical.
I don't see much more coming my way, after this year, in improvements I am interested in. Something like a Note4 or S5 would be as far as I care to go.
All IMHO of course
:good:
I thought that I read somewhere on a T-Mobile thread that the latest update locked the bootloader on the S4. Was that incorrect?

The i337 bl was always locked but the loki-doki exploit bypassed sig check and allowed us to flash recoveries and kernels. With mf3 they closed that loophole by "blowing the Q-Fuse", whatever that is. Googled it but forgot what I read.
And now you are limited to flashing mostly TW roms <4.4. No custom recoveries/kernels.

Unlockable Bootloader?

In a conversation with a verizon salesman he told me this http://imgur.com/WlmNyl3
he probably doesn't know what you mean. he probably means like global unlocked.
the past few samsung devices have locked bootloaders, and verizon doesn't go around that. that, plus KNOX means the GS5 WILL have a locked bootloader, and we'll have to do some loki stuff to get around it like with the GS4/Note 3 etc
Knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader.

That is also a Nexus phone.
The catch being Samsung and Verizon want enterprise adoption of the device, so like the S4, it will very likely be locked by same design.

That's not the point Knox is used for those secure businesses. It any way does it mean with having Knox means the bootloader is gna be locked. A bootloader can be unlocked with Knox still present but there is the Knox warranty that you would want to avoid of course.

I appreciate you sharing, but answers from a Verizon sales rep are about as meaningful as those from rolling a magic 8 ball. They very rarely have even the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Actually since you have made the effort to visit this forum, chances are you already know more than they do.
I fully expect the VZ bootloader to come locked up tight. Hopefully we can get it unlocked as fast as the M8 did. I could care less about Knox or my warranty.

Hoping and wishing ain't going to make it happen - look no further than the VZN S4 / Note 3. If not for the loki exploit on the initial S4 release, AOSP Roms would be unavailable. Check out the Original Android Development section on the VZN Note 3.....that is most likely the future of the S5. Be happy with TW or get a Dev Edition - probably your only options.

Bootloader WIP
On the alliance rom page for the retail gs5, i saw a reply on a WIP bootloader. Idk if im the only one who saw this or some****, but I am extremely phyiched for it, and even that there is "progress" gives me some hope. CANT WAIT!!!

Any progress on bootloader?

Like the title states, I was wondering if there is any progress on unlocking the bootloader. I am okay with the way things are, but I would love to run CM11. I appreciate all the work devs do around here. I am just curious to know if anyone is still working on the bootloader, and if there is any progress.
nope. no update that is.. not sure if anyone is working on it behind the scenes with newer devices out there
Sole reason I will never buy a Samsung device on Verizon ever again.

Sunshine worked on the Ultra/Maxx up to 4.4.3 but 4.4.4 is locked down tight, that includes the Turbo and Moto X 2014 as well. The options moving forward are HTC, LG (still able to "unlock" by downgrading firmware) or dropping the $$$ on a dev edition Samsung or the N6.
