How to flash / install / sideload stock lollipop? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Noob friendly please. I remember on previous releases of android people were able to upgrade early without waiting for the ota. It would wipe their system granted, but I'm willing to do that.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ah so we can't until they release it?

As far as I'm informed you could build it on your own, using the released sdk.

Looking for DEVS to help with Motorola XPRT side project.

Hello everyone!
My name is AndroiddiordnA and I have a Motorola XPRT that I am looking to revive from the brink of extinction.
I am looking for a couple developers that are willing to work with me on three assignments.
1. Getting a stock deodexed rom .zip flashing in recovery.
2. Initial port of any form of AOSP rom (cm7-cm9)
3. Take that port and make it into a form of daily driver.
All three assignments are separate as I will be offering reimbursement for each.
Reimbursement can be discussed over PM *NOT IN THREAD*
Please let me know if you would like to help me with my project. Either message me below, or send me a PM.
Thank you,
AdA

Root

I'm buying a nexus 7 today? Is there a root process for it, and if so, could someone post a link? Also this forum seems to be a bit different so which section would it be posted in? I'm used to the phone forums and its normally posted in original development. Sorry did being a noob to this device. Any help is appreciated.

I see so many types of root available. Very confusing. I'm buying one from office depot.

fastboot oem unlock, fastboot flash a custom recovery, flash either the su binaries or a custom rom using your new recovery, reboot and profit. the method is the same for all nexus devices.
I don't mean to seem ridiculous but isn't there a much simpler method. I'd prefer the easy way out this time of possible. I've done enough with an HTC phone.
I thought they're was a toolkit that made it simple? But I can't find it now.
Oh, and thanks for the responses

I got my son a new laptop. He doesn't want me messing with it. So if I had some small files and deleted them rather than Sdk he'd be happier. Just got to respect his wishes. At least for now..... Will the tool kit work on the new n7 I just purchased and will someone post a url? I can't find it for window 7 64 bit .
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
The toolkit will work if you're still on 4.1.2. Once it updated to 4.2.1 I had to download sdk etc etc

this ^^^^^^ it really cant get much simpler to root a phone, really
if youre worried about the size of the sdk find adb.exe and fastboot.exe and the drivers you need, a quick search will get you all of the above

I would just go to the thread in the Original Development section on this forum, follow the direct link and download the latest nightly - I have experience with other devices but, after die research on here, bought my S4 this evening and had CM running ten minutes after I got home. You can do it too!

Now as far as any OTA updates i want/need, what is the protocol in getting them?
You can't get them on a custom rom
I forget what I read on a custom recovery and rooted--getting older--
I think you need to go back to stock--someone can confirm
I haven't Googled that yet either
There were some rootkeeper apps that were used on my other phones, don't know what works here
I never took OTA's after rooted and flashing my other phones as dev's seemed to have updates faster than my carrier

Generally, the newer firmware versions that get pushed out as OTA updates will be incorporated into custom Touchwiz roms, such as ShoStock and Mint Jelly. However, if you flash CyanogenMod or any other AOSP-based rom such as SlimBean or AOKP, OTA updates will be completely meaningless. It's a different world altogether.
Either way, my advice is the same: Don't mess with OTA's. At best, they could give you the same features as a custom rom. At worst, they could kill the Loki exploit and lock your bootloader for good.

Updating Custom ROMs

I am using Purity 4.4 + Matrix 11.5 right now.
Now my question is how do you guys update your respective ROMs instead of flashing newer versions through recovery? I tried GooManager but it didn't work for me :-|
You should ask in thread about your rom. If devs do not do OTA update you must use recovery to update rom
I think most use recovery

Simple. Set up VM environment there are simple walkthrough video and once your set up you can pull straight out of the devs or any branch. I do my own when I feel I need to add a feature I do. There are a major variety of bases to choose from. Its much easier than many think. In my opinion its safer as I know exactly what I'm getting. Not to mention an addiction lay within too. Lol Have fun bro. Welcome to the machine. Many new devs are so stoked when the first ROM they build is complete they can't stop. Lol peace.

Hmmm...its either bad build or flashing the wrong version for you S4...you need to get in touch with the dev/maintainer of the rom and tell them your problem and make sure you download the right one since S4 has 4 different model....
Thanks for your reply. The thread below is the thread I used to follow, but it has since been locked. So who do we contact please?

They yet to release official PAC 4.4 cause they need to make sure that PAC 4.4 is stable enough for daily use...
I also believe that they are planning to release official PAC 4.4 on all supported devices in one day...

Right, no more nightlies. So once the build on the server changes it's reasonable to assume PAC OTA update will work, and that 4.4 has been deployed, no?
