Maybe they have been working on this the whole time to fix any of the bugs that are left on the tablet!
Excellent!
I am staggered to understand that we are getting Lollipop this month.
This puts us basically in-line with the Nexus line, but for a cheaper point of entry price and arguably better features with stylus and other things like wifi direct controller.

Also it seems that unlike the Shield Tab the Nexus 9 was not built with very good cooling and it throttles itself at some point where as I have not got the Shield to throttle itself yet no matter what I have been playing.

The nexus 7 2013 suffered from this as well. The teeny-tiny mainboard on the left of the screen got scorching hot and topped out at 79 Degrees Celsius for me before throttling started happening. I've not seen any throttling on the Shield Tab on the same games. The max I've seen the temp get to was about 40 degrees.

Yeah Nvidia is quite good at keeping chips cool, one of the best even so it is not surprising. That was a big factor in me picking up the Shield even though I knew about the N9 coming.
Is development for this device likely to pick up along with the Nexus 9?

No not really, you realize 5.0 has been announced to be out this month on this tab. Ever since launch everyone has been looking forward to it, people don't want to waste time on a KK ROM.

Will lollipop be able to be rooted? I've read different information and I'm getting confused.

Chainfire already rooted the Nexus 6 so im assuming it can be done with Nvidia as well.
If the RMA I'm getting doesn't fix my LTE/signal issues, I'm really hoping that the Lollipop update fixes it.

I went through and fastboot erased all partitions then flash stock and took all the OTA updates when the last update came out and my 5GHz has been close to on par with my 2.4GHz band from then on. I also use the TP Link Archer C7 and its been nothing but fantastic at pushing 5GHz to my stuff but I hated the 5 band until the recent update.

I am no expert but I think we would need a custom kernel to root on 5.0. I am not going to take 5.0 till exposed and other root apps I love are compatible though.

Chainfire rooted the Nexus 9 running Lollipop and im pretty sure he didnt have to use a kernel. BusyBox is also updated for Lollipop.
I'm not sure why it surprises anyone that Nvidia would be quick out of the gate to update to Lollipop. The K1 is one of what, 3 or 4 64-bit ARM chipsets out today?
I will admit, though, that I was somewhat unsure when I bought the Shield Tablet as to Nvidia's commitment to keeping it updated and their relatively small presence in Android devices. But given the processing power that is unlocked with a 64-bit OS and games that are optimized for 64-bit, it doesn't surprise me that they are committed to it at least for the 5.0 release. After that, we'll see. But honestly, 5.0 is such a major release that I can see not getting another major update for another two or three years, at which point most of us on XDA will have upgraded anyhow.
As for the question of whether it will be rooted, Android will *always* have a root exploit, and with 80% of the mobile market, there are so many eyes poring over the code to find it that it really isn't a question of "if" but "when".
Just to be clear, the Tegra k1 in the Shield tablet is not 64bit. Nvidia confusingly makes two versions of the k1. A 4 core arm7 (32bit) and a 2 core arm8 (64bit). The Shield tablet has the former, the nexus 9 has the latter.

Folks when to expect Android L on our devices! Lets discusse
No idea, but there's no way I'm updating from 4.3 till I'm sure I can use my SDcard the way it's meant to be used (without any restrictions). That, app ops, and battery life. Even then, I'll wait and let others be the guinea pig first and once the problems are ironed out, I'll upgrade directly to 5.0.
Hmm! Thats smart one! But i think aur sd card issues are finnaly solved in kitkat!!

To be honest, I'm not convinced Nvidia is going to bring L to the TN7. They seem to have all but forgotten it since the release of the Shield Tablet. Also, to anyone having battery life issues, have you tried a factory reset? I've had no battery life issues, and I'm running the latest update as well as the custom kernel on the dev page here with the tablet overclocked to the max.
If That happen then i will throw my tablet! I was too excited about it ! Therefore nexus 7(2012) model will get that update and in less time.
Till now im not having any issues with my battery . I havent rooted my tab yet.
I have seen several news sources that have stated the Note 7 will be getting 5.0. I'm really wondering how long it will take.

Knowing HP, its going to be 6 at least months after nVidia releases their Lollipop Update to their TN7, before we get ours...

The NVIDIA Shield tablet facebook page states that the shield tablet will get the update first, then the Tegra Note 7 will be done later. Hopefully, it is not too much later.
Placing my bet on TN7 Android L release just after Christmas. Else it be the nVidia middle finger at us!
Either way let's hope the TN7 runs it better than my wife's Nexus 7 is at the moment.
Nvidia has said that they will surely update TN7 after shield tablet but no specific date is given!
Still no update? My tablet wants to update to KitKat, but I won't do it unless I can get lollipop. I've 20GB of apps on SD card so KitKat is not an option. Is lollipop going to be any better for this scenario?
Cheers
FYI guys, as cool as lollipop looks it may be a bad idea to DL it once it comes out.
I did some searching around to see how nexus owners liked it and it basically renders the 2012 version unusable and severely hampers the 2013 FHD version.
From what little info out there about how it runs on the Shield it sounds mostly positive.
My wife's N7 has been spot on since itngot a proper hard reset, I'd say its actually better than it was on KK now but that could be related to the fact its had the hard reset and some unused apps may not have been installed.

I've also heard many people report that their 2013 N7 is running fine; it seems the people having trouble with the update didn't do a full reset, which is always a good option for anyone having issues with any device. As for the 2012 N7, it's running a Tegra 3 while we're sporting a Tegra 4, so I'm sure it won't be a problem for us... frankly, the Tegra 3 was kind of a mess anyway.
I have the Tab Pro 4 10.1, Tab 3 7" and the Nexus 7 2012. My Nexus 7 2012 had gone through all the updates to Lollipop but none of my Samsung devices have any updates for months while the Nexus 7 the oldest of all the three have all these updates that just keeps on coming. I'm getting frustrated with Samsung because until now my Samsung tablets are stuck at 4.4.2. If Samsung can release a new phone/tablet every 3 months with the latest OS then why can't they update the OS of the older ones at the same rate? Why do we ever bother reading the news about Android's latest Lollipop if we can't even get them on time? All I see is - it's coming, yeah right! What kind of software developers or engineers they have in there? Maybe they only have one guy working on it that's why it's taking so long or never at all. With all that money that they have, they can't even do this simple things. I guess that's why they couldn't beat Apple at their own game. Anyway, I'm out. Thanks for reading!

Just what do you see on Lollipop that makes you want it so bad.
I have purposely turned off OS updates on my N7 as don't want it. The device has not enough power to operate more and more memory intensive OS.
I let my N4 get updated and now regret it. Had no problems prior but now the battery drains overnight if left on standby. I used to let it go for several days before charging now I have to ensure it is plugged in and recharged nightly. This battery drain is being experienced by others. I don't want to have to do a complete factory reset and load everything again which is what some people recommend when doing these updates. Lollipop to me offers nothing that I want and it removed the ability to quickly close all apps which now must be done individually a pain. That plus the chance of other problems makes me want to leave my tab as is.
Google makes the Nexus line.
Google makes Android.
It's to be expected that a Nexus gets the Android updates first.
I'm under the impression the TabPros are getting Lollipop in Jan/Feb sometime with the rest of the year old devices, is that way out to lunch? If they aren't, I will be jumping to CM12 way sooner than later!

Whats so good about lollipop..... wellllll, on my phone after lollipop update I went from a 32k antutu to a 48k antutu, after lollipop im getting noticeably better performance in browsing and gaming, after lollipop im getting MUCH better battery life, after lollipop my phone runs like I want it to. As for being more memory intensive better look again. In its initial release lollipop had a memory leak, that was fixed so now it is easier on your device than kitkat. As for the close all in recent tasks which has been renamed...its still there. As always brand specific features will overwrite stock features though.
So in short why would someone want lollipop? It is simply better in almost every way. One of the few updates I have thought worthy of taking.

Dude, yes. This a hundred times. I was going to return this stupid tablet (10.1) because the TW ROM is so horrifically bad and sluggish. With CM12 it flies.
Yup, it'll either be out this year, next year, or the year after that. Trust me. Don't worry about it. Keep buying Samsung tablets, they're great.
I see a thread just like this one on every single device I've ever owned. A spoiled baby crying that they don't get updates right away. If you want updates so fast why would you get anything but Nexus? Go install CM12 & be happy.

lol seriously? 4.4.2 is just so out of date, it makes sense everyone is complaining.
not to mention, there's so many dumb bugs on the official GTP 8.4 firmware that it's pretty obvious this model is an "afterthought" for samsung
i actually don't expect ANY further updates for this model, it's pretty clear that when a company replaces a product with a newer product just 4 months after the product comes out (Tab S) they consider the first product a failure and don't care about it anymore

It is not that out of date cmon man. If/when 5.0 drops you will see a new thread dedicated to how bad it is on the tablet & asking how to go back to kitkat. If you want loli so bad why not play with cm12? If updates are such a priority to you why did you get this device? It has been like this for pretty much every non nexus device. Some get updates pretty quick, but most have to wait months.

in CM12 for tab pro 10.1 if you set an unlock pattern. does it appear on the first screen after pushing power button(like stock) or do you have to swipe for it to appear? (which means additional screen/step before unlock)

Are you really happy with that Lollipop on your Nexus 7 (2012)? I also own a Nexus 7 (2012) which became useless after Lollipop update.
Guys, go and visit the Nexus 7 sub-forum here and see how frustrated are those people after they got Lollipop.
I am really happy with my Samsung's (especially with 8.4), I wouldn't trade my milliseconds lag for a 30 seconds Lollipop lag and I will wait some good time when the update will become available.

Hi everyone! I created this thread to collect any info about getting a Marshmallow update on our beloved Note PRO.
Did Sammy say anything about it?
Greetings!
Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

Considering the tablet is less than two years old, and Samsung has a pretty good track record of providing OS updates during the first 2 years, I'd say chances are good. But, it'll probably be next fall when the "N" release is ready to drop. haha
With that said, the one factor that I think works against the Note Pro is the fact that it probably didn't sell very many units. It was incredibly expensive, and most people simply didn't want a tablet that big.
Time will tell.
I doubt it we haven't even got lollipop yet so the chance of marshmallow is 0%

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm on 5.0.2 right now, which is lollipop. The only feature I care about on Android M is Doze. My tablet drain about 20% overnight or when not in use for a day and I feel like Doze can bring that down to 5% or less so it's comparable to Ipad's standby time. I've tried Greenify and other similar "sleep" applications and they end up not saving any battery.
Idk our hardware is quite similer to Note3 hardware which wont get M !!
Just dont get your hopes so high guys since this company wont listen or even care about us loyal customers !
Trust me i've been in a situation like this before with my Note2.
Anyway i don't use my tablet as a social media device as they are the most reason to drain battery so quickly especially viber also turn off location completly.
So i really dont care about google so called doze or whatever sorcery they keep throwing at us as some marketing s**t !!!

Still on 4.4.2 here in the UK so no we still havnt recieved lollipop yet and 2 weeks ago Andriod L was realesed a year ago most google devices are using marshmallow now If you take Samsungs time scale as a factor google will have upgraded all there machines to 8.0 by the time we would recieve 6.0, so like I said I doubt very much they will upgrade an old tablet that didn't sell well to Marshmallow. If by some miracle they do, it will be 2 years out of date so again no real point to.
I've been researching about an update for my Verizon p905v for several days now because I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and they don't sell this tablet so I didn't trade it in. I just added it to my account and put T-Mobile's sum card in it but the tablet won't recognize the sun card and still thinks it's a Verizon tablet, but that's off topic, just said that to explain why I couldn't update through the settings. Anyway, through Kies I was able to update to 5.1.1 a week or two ago. I read somewhere why researching this that the p905v WILL be getting the 6.0 update! It listed a few Samsung devices and the Note Pro 12.2 was the last one on the list to be getting it. I'll try to find where I read that and post a link here if I can find it again. FYI, you can't judge the update or timeline by comparing to any Nexus device, that site also said all Nexus devices will get the update first since they are Google devices. Hope this helps answer some questions, again I'll post a link to that site if I can find it.

Verizon is CDMA and TMobile is GSM. The two are not compatible. It will not work unless the tablet has both radios. Not sure if the note PRO has a GSM radio. If it does, then you will need to turn the radio on. Probably by loading a custom ROM.

G8gle being not "aware" of the way its "os" is used and delivered to customers...sucks as well as the chinese or even more...[ i understand why chromeos had no success...]
they are BANKSTER$ , turning something well working and free into a private and :silly: thingies..
to sum it : android by samsung is like posting a reply here with "g8gle chrome" : IMPOSSIBLE
when it come to check the "Robotologie"...image Verification pop-up not showing....Verification expired...
android - g8gle$a$$ung too : bunch of has-been
posted with FireFox...the one that made browsing the web free : POSSIBLE...
beside that : anyone uses the addblock-browser made for android$ ?
addblock , a nice extention that makes browsing " free of g8gle"$ add$ "....

Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

I just bought the galaxy note pro 12.2, barely used for a good price. Even thought it's old, it should do what I need. I would hope to get at least 3 years out of it and the update to marshmallow would be nice. This is my first samsung tablet. I had previous iPad. Is it not likely Samsung will update this tablet? What's the big difference between lollipop and marshmallow anyway? Maybe it won't really matter.
Everyone tells me I should buy the iPad pro instead because of newer tech.
I think that the only way we will get Marshmallow for this tablet is if a dev cooks it up for us. I'm also wondering why there is no news of a new version of this table (or any Note tablet) in the works. I'm wondering if Samsung has abandoned the Note series of tablets. If they have that would be a shame. I use an iPhone, but the handwriting and multi-screen are of importance to me (so no change to an iPad).

I too am wondering why there isn't news of a new tablet. I was in the market for one, and didn't want another iPad. I have an iMac as my computer, but don't like apples phones so have galaxy note 3 and thought my iPad was limited in function so wanted a galaxy tab. I had to buy used. I know with CES being around the corner, if there is something in the works, they should announce it then. But I couldn't wait. I hope to at least get 2 years out of the note pro.
if nothing else, maybe someone will make a cyanogenmod 13 rom for it. that would be really nice.
Techradar marshmellow
"Android Marshmallow update: when can I get it?"
They mention the note pro.
I think it is a good idea for Samsung to do this asap as the market for large screen stylus powered devices is growing quickly with the iPad pro and tablet 4. The already with the note pro have a foothold device in that sector so they can launch off the back of it. Keeping the note pro relevant is important for now.
BTW, I've used both the iPad pro and windows 4 tab at work and still prefer the Note pro 12.2 even though it is a year old and less powerful. At the price point of the Note pro it is a fantastic device.
...Thank you Samsung now I know which manifacturer never to buy again!

True. Samsung sucks on updates.
Having said that, the only thing I miss from lollipop on my tablet is the smart clip feature. Almost everything else is available through third party app, root and Xposed. It's still one of the greatest tablets on the market. Which is the good thing about Samsung - the hardware is majorly future proof.
I wish they'd update the spen and snote features independent of system updates. Would make life so much easier.

Do we really need another thread on this?
If you are unsatisfied, then say something to them. Doing so on here won't help anyone. I have lollipop on my 607T and wish I never downloaded it, as I didn't have issues with the Bluetooth audio skipping. Lollipop may be a better OS overall, but it still comes with bugs even though it is 5.1.1

nexus (singular), nexi (plural)
Samsung has way too many devices out and therefore does only support the ones that have the biggest impact. Though I like to see at least 5.1.1 officially supported I feel it is wishful thinking and also made me turn my back on Samsung all together and I will enjoy the rest of it's life with a community ROM. (Although I did notice the developer just announcing he is stopping). It does run fine with 4 4.2 as well so 18 more months and I will allow myself a better supported tablet
I love this tablet, it is great in pretty much every aspect, except internal memory. I wished it could've been available in 64 and 128 GB variants, but it is what it is.
UPDATES though is the point where Samsung sucks. I'm running Marshmallow already on my Nexus 7 tablet (it's great by the way, smoother and faster than Lollipop) and only about to get Lollipop on this tablet. What the F... Samsung?!
I think it would be great to get Marshmallow to this tablet but I have a gut feeling that it is never going to happen

Yes it will, when pigs fly square circles around my living room....
But seriously, this tablet is now 2 years old(close enough), the agreement was to keep updated for 18 months... Be thankful we got 5.1.1 and not the less desirable 5.0 with its memory leaks and other problems...

Great! And I thought our tablet was dead to NVidia's eyes. Glad to be wrong.
Johny Hongkong - I dont understand the question, What product are you talking about with the K1?

Actually it's the second. Galaxy S3 LTE went from 4.0 to 4.4. And if it wanna get even more picky the Xiaomi Mi3 went from 4.3 to 6.0, along with the nexus 7 2013. Which would make it the fourth.
Plus the k1 is younger than the og shield

Nexus 7 was realesed under 4.3 ?
I'd certainly buy Nvidia again, they offer great driver support and the absolute best software update support, they have outclassed Google as they seem to be constantly trying to become Apple, forcing support limits on OEMs similar to what happened to the Z3 Nougat update
Yes but the k1 is technically the same tablet with no stylus and no included charger. Chances are when the k1 gets 7 so will the og pyro tablets well at least the replacement tablets will
I really hoped they would announce a new shield tablet, when they announced those new shield tvs....

It seems that Nvidia is not going to make tablets anymore, probably because they are producing the Nintendo Switch Hardware (which has capabilities similar to a gaming tablet). Not sure where I read this anyway.

It seems like they are taking a year off to work on the Switch (and they probably signed something that says they won't compete). The hardware inside the current Shield Tablet is so powerful it doesn't need a refresh anyway.

It's not all peaches and cream though, there are compatibility issues with a lot of apps, some don't run right or at all. Also some titles require you to re buy them for the x1 even though you own it already.
