I have been struggling with this issue for long time now and this is my last shot here. My phone is rooted, stock KitKat and I use Nova launcher.
The issue:
When I turn my phone on there is not navbar in the home screen. When I open some app the navbar doesn't appear like it should. However if I press power button when some app is open (phone screen goes off) and press it again (lock screen appears) and slide to open my phone then the navbar is there. So now when the navbar is there it also stays there (even in the home screen) as long as press power button in the home screen. So every time I press power button in the home screen navbar disappear and every time I press power button when some app is open I get navbar back.
If I change back to TouchWiz everything works great. I mean navbar goes off when I'm in home screen and come back when I open some app. So far I have tried to fix this with these methods:
- Tried Apex launcher: No difference to Nova
- Installed "SoftKey Enabler" from Play Store: No effect expect when I disable it I lose navbar for good
- Manually change qemu.hw.mainkeys value 0 or 1 in build.prop: No effect expect when I put value 1 I lose navbar for good
- Installed Xposed and "App settings" module. In the "App settings" I choose Nova and then tap the option "force full screen" but there is not any effect
- Installed Gravity Box and Tasker: I used this guide here. Now navbar goes off automatic when I go to home screen and come back when I open some app but if I press power button in the home screen I lose navbar. I can get navbar back only if open app and press power button again. When I get navbar back it works great as long as I press power button home screen. Also this method is little bit laggy and Opera mini browser keeps crashing when expended desktop is on.
The reason why I want to use Nova is that with Nova my phone works very fast and smooth and I can custom many things. Also Nova support to rotate home screen in landscape what TouchWiz doesn't support. I use Sliding Bluetooth Keyboard with my phone so mostly I use my phone in landscape. I would be happy even I can get solution to keep navbar there always (even in the home screen) but best solution would be navbar to automatic disappear in home screen.
I really hope that someone could help me with issue.
help!
Anyone?

Install a app such a zmooth. It puts a little touchpad at the bottom of your screen, where you can use 3 gestures for home, menu and back. Works in all windows, such as fullscreen games or apps.

thx to you~!!! dude, it's working~
Menu> settings> cyanogenmod settings> tablet tweaks> disable fullscreen
Choose the other softbuttons you want here too, like a home button on the notification bar!
Otherwise, choose power buttons menu and add a back button... Home button is on the power screen by default.

Be aware that disabling fullscreen may cause UI issues on some games and apps where the controls and text get mashed together. Real Racing 2 on mine had the controls and menu selections all mashed up on top of each other until I re-enabled fullscreen.
Another way is to add back button to power button settings

I really like this here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smart.swkey for a few reasons. I can have it almost completely hidden (I watch a lot of videos and want the least amount of distraction) and you can also long press on them (which also works with cm's mods) so if you have the option set to kill foreground app via long pressing back button, it will work with button savoir, another example would be... I have holding menu button hides/shows the status bar via cm settings, that works with button savoir (actually that does not even work with cm's built in soft keys) I'm thinking about buying the license key so i can remove/customize the buttons but I haven't yet. I'm kinda holding out for cm 9/ICS. My experience with the unstable builds are that navigation is very well done and I might not feel the need for any third party navigation method.

That would be my choice as well yes, I've had it running on my KF since day one. Havn't bought a license key more for the fact that the only time I need it is when I need a back or menu button from within a fullscreen app
1. Can I still slide along the notification bar to change brightness? I recall loving this in my old Captivate. CyanogenMod adopted this feature later on.
2. Can I customize what the soft buttons do? CM10 on Galaxy S3 was completely customizable (i.e. button press vs double tap vs long press).
Can Touchwiz customize any of this in stock?
My ideal button behavior is:
long press menu= recent apps
long press home button= voice search
double tap home button= disabled (i.e. just takes you home like a single press, no lag)

1. Not on current TouchWiz. U would need custom mods for that.
2. Not on current TouchWiz. U might want to try out Nova Launcher. It lets you customize actions for those buttons. As far as the lag in home button, you can disable this in S Voice in settings. Once you do that there is no lag when you press Home button.

Delete/Ignore - It was Home2 Shortcut. I always have it set from the start, and didn't even think of it.
I'm on US Cellular, but heard our phones are very similar. I have this annoying problem when I press the Home button. It appears to happen with both the hw button and an app, like Ultimate Dynamic Navbar. I press it to go to my default screen (Nova launcher, not in foreground), and the Recent Apps pops up for a split second before going to the home screen. Not sure when it exactly started, but happened on both Vanir and CyanFox ROMs. I'm on KT kernel and tested with default settings and the Hydra profile. Thanks for your help.
Edit: When on a different screen on the launcher, it'll show the Recent Apps, then remain on that screen.
Edit: Before I have any recent apps, it'll just flash a black screen for the same amount of time. Something's causing a delay. In Accessibility, I changed the Touch & hold delay from Short, Medium, Long with no change.
Here's a video of it: https://www.copy.com/s/icgfFx0BnwUt/SCR_20140104_044403.mp4.
All I got to do is hit home once and the button responds, with this setup the home button responds on the first time period, eveytime( you need nova launcher) If i hit home button from the home screen my 3T sleeps & hibernates my phone. Get a app called tiles, it has a density tile, set (right side swipe up) in fling settings to brings up (settings panel) and put your most convenient tiles in the bottom right so you'll be able to change screen size quick. Get opera browser & set in hardware button (long press brings up search assistant) now you hold home down and it brings up Google search & the keyboard automatically opens, now your searching quick. It's operas search page but is Googles engine and the exact same search suggestions as Google. With this setup there's no lag with the home button either, just don't assign a third action. So you get 3 functions of the home button but with no 1 second lag, cause one of the functions is set in Nova

Fling comes with roms like resurrection remix & AOSP extended. You need greenify installed on your phone to get sleep & hibernate, you'll see the option when your changing your buttons

I don't take ownership of this, but the website Gadgeteer did.
You are suppose to be able to access system UI tuner by swiping down twice to get the entire device settings menu, then
tap and hold the gear icon for 5 seconds, then release. If that doesn't work, the workaround is:
Download and install Nova Launcher...(I use Nova Prime, but the free one is suppose to work)
After install, make Nova the default launcher. Then, open the Nova Launcher settings.
Go to gestures & input. Tap Home button. Tap Shortcuts. Tap Activities. Scroll down and tap
on System UI. Scroll and tap demo mode. Tap the home shortcut at the bottom 3 button screen.
Then tap the home button again. System UI tuner will pop up.
If you want to revert back to how it was, open Nova settings, gestures & input, home button, none
and that will revert it back to how it was.
