So I posted a thread here asking for help (the phone was functional at this point) and one user suggested a root method to try out in the comments there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379833
After running this root method my wifi is now dead. It's killing me! Someone please help me out here.
My phone model is a Japanese Softbank 201 M with the 4.1.2 update. It's not rooted but is unlocked. The phone is the developer edition if that helps any.

Ouch. Your WiFi is broken because he told you to flash a US VZW (XT-907) firmware.
Okay. First, you should try to find a 201M restore file. That will get your WiFi back. Next, since you've got a Dev edition, you can bootloader unlock and install a custom recovery, then flash a root zip
EDIT: Found it

While the link I gave him was unidentified as to warnings to non vzw users (now fixed) , the flashing of vzw sw comes in step 8 clearly he would have had to have pulled it from a xml himself if he even got that far. And if he did it would have been from reading the rzr op. As the bare motochopper has no vzw sw inside.

I didn't get the system img at all. I just wanted to flash the superuser files to /data which I thought would set me up to flash the whole thing with Rom manager.
Anyway, thank you for the help. I am downloading the firmware you linked to now. This guide tells me to edit the XML file and remove the getvar text from it, should this apply here as well? (Edit: Cant post outside links, but I think you get my point)
I'm going to use RSD 6.1.4 to restore the firmware. Any further instructions would be appreciated as I have never done this before.

Don't think you'll need to since it's designed for your device. You can try without the edit and do it if it doesn't work. I'll try to find a guide for RSDLite (been a while since I used it myself - fastboot is usually what I use now...

Dear sir,
I'd like you to buy a ticket to Karachi right now because I'd run all the way to the airport to KISS YOU until the police dragged me away.
The process worked. My wifi just turned back on. Thank you very much for the weekend stress relief!
I think I'm gonna give up on the idea of rooting this thing until there's a more reliable method available. Also, if anyone has the same issue then take note: I did remove the getvar commands when using RSD.

I am glad SC took care of you & I am sorry I lead you in that direction.
Please fill in some details for others?
How do you have a path to the newer sw? Is it your carriers ota? If you can obtain the same in the xml form there is an easy root using a modded ver w/ unlocked phone. The ota.zip could also be useful if you take it while you have root. It resides in /cache.
Thank you

It wasn't your fault for trying to help, so it's ok. I'm glad a solution existed.
I'm more than willing to answer the questions, but I am a layman here so please explain some things for me: What do you mean by SW? I just installed the update by going into about phone -> system update on Wifi. The carriers here don't even support 3G, much less 4G (So now you know why Wifi was important for me).
The phone came unlocked day one when I bought it from a friend's friend. I don't know if he did it that way or if it comes unlocked because it is the developer edition.
I installed CW Recovery using Fastboot. I installed the incorrect superuser file using Motofail which wrote the superuser file but failed at all other steps. I was then unable to either access or remove this superuser apk file.
Since I am back on 4.0.4. now, what's the easy way to get root access and superuser permissions that you mention? I wish other XT902 owners would post here too, generating interest would really help in getting development support for this phone.

Lol no problem, glad to know it worked. Getting root is actually really simple since you're unlocked. All you need to do is flash a custom recovery and flash a root .zip from there... No exploits required
I can try to write up a guide to that if you want

I tried that, and while it did install superuser, it seemed to have no effect. I couldn't get permissions for any app and using ROM manager's functions would just freeze up that particular application. Any ideas?

Once you root on 404 you can grab your update.zip & copy it to your sd . Any rooting exploit would evolve from that Or the newest xml ver of the 404 you just flashed from rsd. You may be able to request it from your carrier.
---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
You can paste the mods from my vzw restore (no vzw software will be used) into the 404 xml & obtain root from a preinstalled cwmr! Then maintain root with voodoo for your ota.
I will help you just read the op. Link is in my signature.

They can't officially release it, just like they don't officially release any beyond the Dev Editions (which happen to also work on the "retail" versions of those phones).
It getting "leaked" or "found some place" which would later get posted to -> http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0 is another story, but we have to be patient. As soon as they find it, I'm sure it will be posted. Just have to wait for them to get their hands on it.
I ask him about why are others software images can be found, but not receive any reply.

You completely missed what I said. I said that Moto has released images for the Developer X's..
Technically speaking, you did not get the "T-Mobile Retail X Firmware" from Moto. Their web site clearly says you are requesting "MOTO X, GSM Dev Edition: KK-4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.25_MR3 (Retail)"
It just so happens that the GSM Developer X and "T-Mobile" or "GSM Unlocked" versions of the X are all XT1053 and use the exact same rom. Just like the Developer Edition X for Verizon and Retail/MotoMaker X for Verizon are both XT1060 and use the same rom.
So yeah, moto has released the Developer Edition roms by request at -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images But they have not made the roms available for the "Carrier Branded" Moto X's, like the XT1058 from ATT, or the XT1056 from Sprint, or the XT1058 from Rogers, or the XT1055 from US Cellular, etc..
And Moto does not own or operate http://sbf.droid-developers.org

Under the Development thread there is a Mac Toolkit. The guy who made it isn't supporting it anymore, but it includes mfastboot. You can manually flash the files with it. I haven't searched for the exact commands, but they should be easily procurable via a quick search.

There is a Mac version of Fastboot... but I'm not sure what all is involved to use it. (drivers or anything else??) -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/X-STUFF/Mfastboot-4.4.zip To flash this way, you'll want to unzip the SBF file, open the included .XML file, and convert the operations to fastboot commands.
For example, in another thread of someone trying to flash a Claro 4.4.2 rom, when we opened the XML we came up with -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52051769&postcount=18

I don't think so.
The only difference between the developer models and the MotoMaker/Retail X for Verizon and ATT is the unlocked vs locked bootloader.
As far as using things like RSDLite and mfastboot, as long as you are flashing a ROM that is digitally signed by Moto, you should be able to do the same things.
Now, any rooting, flashing custom recovery or custom rom, etc wont work. But RSDlite or mFastboot to flash a Moto Rom will.

HuH? How does having the ATT 4.4.2 SBF help/allow you to root?
ATT has a locked bootloader, and 4.4.2 breaks/plugs the exploits used by SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo. So flash this and you can't root or disable write protection.

I'm on Verizon. I used Safestrap and the Safestrap stock-rooted ROM over on XDA to retain root. It has literally no downsides to me. Once the SBF was made available for AT&T, someone on Rootzwiki said they would put together an AT&T version of it. Hence, I can root her phone. She's still on 4.4.
I have a Droid Maxx, and Razr Maxx HD and perhaps some beer cash for the answer to root...
I was thinking flashing twrp, then let it root, or am i way off or require an unlocked bootloader? I tried sunshine, but no go as it requires root.
So if i understand, you can get root without an unlocked bootloader, or is an unlocked bootloader a prerequisite of root? I am thinking not, but i am a Windows/SharePoint guy and pretty dumb to linux...

You need an unlocked bootloader to flash TWRP (which flashes SuperSU). There is no known root method available yet because the phone has only been out for about 8 hours.
The Sunshine team has apparently said they will not be supporting Motorola devices for 4.4.4 in their 3.0 release, only HTC, so unlikely it will work there.

Also vroot during the root attempt installs 2 apps on your phone and who knows what it installs on Windows without running a regmon, if you do decide to try it make sure you uninstall the 2 chinese apps when your done trying. Also like I mentioned above I would highly not to install vroot or Kingo on your daily driver windows machine. Leave the testing to people who have virtual machines they can install these apps on.
I have used vroot and kingo in the past to successfully root so I know they do/can work, they just haven't been updated yet to work on the Droid Turbo. Hopefully they will.

I keep checking the other Moto forums for root options. I'm banking on anything that will root a Moto 4.4.4 phone will work on ours. The Moto G 4.4.4 update has a later build date than our version.
Hello, guys!
As you know, Motorola smartphone can be repaired if something was wrong while flashing ROM's or doing smth with your device.
Here is the original service firmware KDF21.128-15_15 Blur_version.21.21.15
download
Just flash it through RSDLite or via BAT-file into archive!
Good flashing
Thank you! This will be very useful once we find some exploits!
thanks

Has anyone been able to get RSDLite to recognize the Turbo? I'm having some problems. I can access ADB fine, but when rebooting to the bootloader, it's not recognized by RSDLite.
Still no luck with RSDLite, but the batch file worked without a problem.
my Turbo is perfectly recognized.
Check well your driver installed

Because the Droid Turbo isn't rooted or unlocked. So flashing ROM's is fantasy for now.
Yeah, they are flashing roms, oem roms.

The system dump is just for people to pick through, but this can be used if your device gets bricked.

I also have this version. Ive seen the update available for 21.21.15 but was unsure if i should take it in case a root method is found. Not sure if it makes a difference staying with this one or what the update brings.
Had to use this just today to save my phone. Worked like a charm!
This is for turbo?

Stock roms are there.
I am trying to use the XT1602 files to remove ads on the Amazon version. But no luck yet. The bootloader.img flashes to the XT1607 with no issues so far.

That link comes up with a big flag for porn and illegal activities.
How did you arrive to that conclusion?
The site might have other stuff (I found it by googling), but it also contains a mirror for the Moto roms. I even downloaded and extracted one ROM.

Do you have to unlock your bootloader to flash this? I'd like to take a more permanent approach to remove the amazon ads and bloatware besides the amazon-remover.apk but don't want to void the warranty just yet.
Thanks.
so..i hv a doubt.. will i be able to get official update after changing to stock rom
Guys how do we flash these stock roms ?

Can you please let me know if I flash stock rom, then will the Unlock Bootloader message will disappear or it is permanent ?
It will appear, but you can then flash the logo from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4-play/themes/boot-logo-stock-disable-bootloader-t3492336
Somewhat related: My attempts to relock the bootloader on the XT1607 have not been successful after many hours of flashing the stock rom. I do not know if simply that model cannot be relocked or if the XT1607 rom files have a problem (checksums are vaild to the flashfile though).
Hey guys I'm struggling to find the stock ROM for the XT1604, retail GB (Great Britain), can anyone help me find it? Thanks
It's the single SIM, 1gb ram, 16gb storage Nfc model.
