I'm using MS Exchange account and after a new contact is created or names of an existing one are changed the "File As" property is changed to LastNameFirstNameMiddleName (without interval or coma). Existing contacts' File As property (set to FirstName LastName) is not respected.
I tried looking through Android's SDK to write a small program to fix this, but couldn't find a way to access the field. It looks like the SDK doesn't know about that kind of field.
The consequences are:
1. Contacts in OWA are not displayed user friendly as Paul Smith Anderson is displayed AndersonPaulSmith?!
2. Birthdays are also added as AndersonPaulSmith - Birthday
Editing contacts in Outlook/OWA leads to another problem - picture size limitation. They scale the contact's picture down to 90x90 or something like that, which on 1080p screen looks... Also changing the File As from within Outlook/OWA removes the contact's birthday from the calendar?!
Is there a workaround for these problems?

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on my problem :
I use PI daily for work, adding in (future) clients to visit for the week, but one problem i have is not having a field to add the clients telephone number in the appointments field.
As these are possible future clients, i have no need yet to add them to contacts to retrieve there number, so basically what i am asking is, is there a field to add a telephone number in the appointment secton, or am I forced to add them to contacts first ?
TIA
Any contacts needed for that appointment which are not in your contacts.... I just tend to add the contact in the notes tab for that appointment. If then that contact is needed, then I add them to my contacts.
Is another alternative to create a contacts category "potential clients" or similar as then you can filter them from your normal view of contacts if you wish?

Hello fellow users
Is there something like email to "Distribution List" or "Category" that I've assigned a whole bunch of Contacts to??
I have been using my T-Mobile MDA VARIO for several months now but still can't workout if there is a way to simply email using a POP3 email account to more than one recipient.
:?:Are POP3 Email Distribution Lists possible?
thanks for your wise words,

Interesting...I didn't realize the feature was missing until you pointed it out.
Here's a temporary workaround (don't have much time to sit and search for a freeware addon):
1. Create a new contact named as the group name you'd like to use (say "Development Team")
2. Enter all the e-mail addresses for your distribution list within the "e-mail" tag of this new contact, placing a semicolon ( ; ) between all addresses.
3. When you go to create a new email, enter the group name you just created and the email field should automatically fill with all the addressees (I tried with two, there may be a limitation)
glhs509,
Thanks for the TIP.
I've found there is a limit at 247 characters which works out at 6 - 7 email address' for me so not much scope for large distributions.
For more than 247 characters I've ...
1) on my PC created a temporary email to the distribution list
2) Expanded the name to show all email address
3) Copied into notes section of a new contact.
4) on my PPC I can sink the new contact and it just takes a copy and paste of the contact notes into a new email 'To' box.
Not great but a lot better than adding one at a time. So thanks
I would really like to sync my contacts with the distributions in outlook on my PC so if anyone knows how to, please fill us in
Hello
I have found the way to create a shortcut to creating a new sms:
1°): On PC: create a notepad document with this content:
00#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to "" -body "
2°) On PC: save with .txt
3°) copy from PC to PPC (phone)
4°) on PPC: change extesion from .txt to .lnk
5°) use any launcher to link to this small file it will create a new sms
Now here is what I would like to do in the same way: create a link to a new contact in one click. What I have found so far is this:
20#"\Windows\poutlook.exe" contacts -new
but the problem is that is does not directly create a new contact, but first asks whether it should be in Outlook or on the SIM card. So how can I modifiy the above in order to have it directly in Outlook.
I have tried every possible logic I could think of (adding service "Outlook" for instance) with no luck so far.
Thanks for your help.
Olivier
I checked my HTC Action Screen settings
as it works exactly the way you want and your code looks correct.
In the standard Messaging App, do you have the tick box checked for showing the Account Picker? (Messaging...Tools...options)
sorry, I guess I was not clear: it does not do what I want. I need a direct access to new contact within Outlook, not a link to creating a contact, and then having to select outlook or SIM. This is the last part i could not figure out so far. I'm sure there is a way similar to SMS (which is sub choice of tmail which includes sms, mms, email...)
Thanks
Hi all,
I've tried a search for a solution, but couldn't find it immediately:
I've a lot of contacts divided over subfolders in my Outlook. Apparently activesync does not work with subfolders: huh!?
Is there a new version I can download?
I really need the different maps, I can't work with categories
Regards
Koen
I don't think this is possible. I had the same problem as you.
What I did is to organize my contacts "by category" so instead of using sub folders assigning each contact to a specific category in Outlook. You can then view them in Outlook "by category" and filter in Windows Mobile by category.
I agree that this is a serious problem. With some of my contacts I've gone into Outlook (that I sync with) and placed a zz_ at the front of the "File As:" entry.
Then at least all of these contacts will be at the bottom of my list.
The other thing I've done is created an excel spread sheet (or even an html file) with a list of contacts that I don't want on my main list and copied that file to my phone. Sometimes I open that to find names and then copy and paste it into my phonebook.
Welcome to Activesync! This goes right back to the first Pocket PCs, Microsoft have shown no iterest in adding this functionality.
The only way you can do this is by using different sync software, which maps folders in outlook to categories on your phone. Works well for me.

Which alternate sync software are you using?

Hi All
Yes I know this answer is a little late... But it might help others
If you want to Sync MS Outlook's Contact Sub Folders you need - Chapura PocketMirror Professional
I've used it for many years and excellent bit of kit (only used with office 2003)
Just checked online and they have gone 'bust' but I still have the software & in daily use - PM me if req'd
On my pc i have set up the main contacts folder and a subfolder which contains all my mobile numbers [all nicely ordered etc!]
Is there anyway I can make the activesynch see this mobiles-sub_folder to sych with rather than just the main "contacts" folder of email addresses?
I tried importing from SIM and the process is screwed up:
What was "John Smith" home number on my SE (backup to SIM)
imports as "forename" - blank
Surname - smith; John/1"
So I don't think I could even use the re-sorting cab file to re-order them first name/Surname and would have to edit >180 contacts unless I can synch with the Outlook Folder.
Help Appreciated!
I didn't even know you could make additional folders in outlook...
You should merge the contacts, as in so that mobile and e-mail address for the same person are in the same contact - as it's meant to be.
If you want to differenciate, use categories.
If you don't want to / can't merge, or they're simply completely different people, I'd assign let's say a "phone" category to all your phone contacts, a "mobile" category to the mobile ones. Then move all the "mobile" ones into the main folder.
You can always filter by category afterwards, both on outlook and on the phone.
Okay thanks
Reading around, I see that ActiveSync can't synch with sub-folder.
It is rather poor that MS software will not do something with MS software than a 3rd party App [that Ericsson provided] will do.
