anyone going to switch to the newer acer devices? or the nexus 7? because tegra 3 is out and it seems very good, also might get the nexus although it would be missing external sd slot but that can be fixed if you root it, and the newer acer's seem to get hot but are getting fixed with software updates, what do you guys think? is it worth to upgrade to tegra 3? or wait for tegra 4 in 2013?

Already bought a 701. Still keeping the 501 though.
The hot processor is due to it being a high performance tablet. There's no way yet around this, but hopefully some newer updates will lower the temp down a little.
It all depends on 2 things.
a. Do you want it?
b. Do you have the cash?
If you answer yes to both, or yes to one, but unsure of the other, then go out and get it.

Well, the interface is ok. ICS. I really didn't get a good chance to play around, as it.... ahem.... bricked. (no comment, but you know me, testing a tweaked kernel. Seems the recovery author screwed the pooch on the recovery. Not only wasn;t tested because he doesn't own a 70x, but was based on the 510 recovery, which the author of course later found it, it bricks the tab when you restore Lesson learned. Well, should get it back hopefully in a week. About time I bricked a tab
I wrote an initial review in my rom thread.
Basically, the only complaint I had, was 2. Hot processor (supposedly an update has either been released, or promised by acer), and the screen sensitivity is in my opinion, not as sensitive as the 50x. Sometimes had to press a little harder. But I think both can be fixed with an update. It's a first release after all.
Overall, a good upgrade I think. But if you can get the 51x at a better price, and can sacrifice the HD display, you might be better off. But that display...... Daaaaaaamnnnnn.
EDIT. On a sidenote, the TF Prime also has Tegra3, and it also runs warmer than normal under load. And they don't have an HD Display. But if you OC the TF Prime, to 1.6 and give it a load, it runs hot. Mine, out of the box, was 1.4. Strange. But it never rebooted after 30-40 min of Shadowgun. But was pretty hot. 90c maybe. I would probably advise 30-40 min of solid HD game playing, then let it cool. It cools down really quick when you let it rest for a couple minutes.

You know, being a techie with means, in a way I am very much tempted by Tegra 3s and all the new hardware, but I stop and ask myself, why? I don't play games on my 500, and I run reflexxx, so it does everything I want it too, and smoothly.
I think for me, personally, it's less of a question of whether I have the money or the desire, and more of do I have an actual need? I mean, Chrome, Perfect Viewer, and Moon+ don't exactly need much horse power. Perhaps if I sat down with a Tegra 3 workhorse I'd think differently, but short of putting on a T3 game and saying "oooh" for five minutes, I can't see any real benefit beyond a slightly better battery life.
I have to

Welcome back Erica. Good to see you. It's been a while.
I also saw that there might a kindle fire 2 in a ten inch version on Aug. 6th and the galaxy note 10.1 inch so I might wait till then and see If they start making nexus 7 in 32gb but I doubt it

I bought my a500 last December when Target had them on a fire sale. I'll probably do something similar this coming holiday season. Truth be told, I'm incredibly satisfied with my Iconia, but I'm always interested in the next best thing, and Tegra 3 has the right mix of performance and price for my income.
I won't get a Nexus 7, however. No SDcard, no HDMI, and no USB host are all deal breakers for me. The Iconia has spoiled me in this regard.
I'm thinking about getting myself a Nexus 7 to go alongside my a500. You can never have too much tech.
I have had a a500 since about July 2011. I really like it and with ICS it got even better. I replaced my rooted Nook Color with it but for reading I find the a500 to be too heavy so I picked up a Nexus 7 last week. LOVE it! Super light and great for reading on and I haven't touched my a500 since. I do really like JB and the smoothness of Tegra 3 compared to the a500. I think I will still prefer the 10 in tablet for web browsing but for $199 the N7 just can't be beat. Can't believe I was recommending the Kindle fire to friends just a month ago.
Used a nexus 7 for a few days, passed it along to my parents. No hdmi, no card slot, that's a dealbreaker. I'm waiting to see an A700 in person, but the Nexus 7 will be a tough act to follow. I'm hoping Google will follow up with a Nexus 10 that fills in the gaps of the Nexus 7.
hopped on teh nexus 7, I have been wanting a smaller tablet, plus my step dad now has the a500 which helps while he is waiting for kemo, for some reason it takes like hours just to get into treament
No more tegra for me. Im waiting for an cheapass tab with an high quality screen and a nice resolution cause thats really the only thing I need and in my eyes mather these days. Since all cpus are strong enough for most of the tasks. For example; my Desire Z with an 800 mhz cpu can play all the latest games like gta, maxpayne, dead trigger just fine. It even runs xbmc with navi-x totally smooth. I can even say it handles the most important tasks like browsing and playing video much beter than my dual core crappy tablet, especiely video decoding. And since xda officially gave Nvidia the middlefinger I do the same.
EDIT: The desire even runs dead trigger with tegra 3 graphics tottaly smooth...
After the A501 I will never buy another Acer product and I recommend anybody that asks my opinion on the matter to stay away also..
I just picked up a Nexus 7 last week. Got tired of being behind for AOSP ROMs. Didn't realize about the lack of USB hosting or I might not have bought it. Having a slight screen issue so it might go back to Staples.

Hello XDA!
I would like to announce that on November 13 Nexus 10 will be available with $ 399 16GB version, as you know.
I had this money and I expect it of course!
But I'm not sure if it would be good ..
Worth picking Nexus Nexus 10 rather than 7? I love Nexus 7, especially that is 7 inches, but I would like more of a tablet so "strong", with many improvements, but little bad design.
What do you think? Wait?
I think that would be the best purchase!
What do you think?
To me, it really depends on your phone's screen size, if you have a big phone - (Larger than 4.8 Inches) then I would not even consider the Nexus 7. I am actually selling mine, because the screen is to small for me.
If you have a smaller size screen on your phone, 4.3 for instance, i would consider it. I have a GS3, and the difference of 2.2 inches really does not justify the need for the tab, just my 2 cents.
Hmmm.....the N7 doesn't have a rear camera, which is kinda a flaw. The N10 is awesomely big (I haven't got one yet ) with a front and back camera. The N7 goes to 16GB, and The N10 goes to 32GB........I have an N7 myself, plus I will get notified for a Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 (I save my money...ALOT) I'd go for a N10, but if you want a cheaper option, grab the N7.

well i have a note2 and the nexus 7 and even tho it's only 1.5in larger i find myself using the nexus a lot, ill get the 10 aswell.
I am having a lot of trouble deciding between these two devices, particularly because the nexus 10 is not available to try out at any physical store in my area so I'd be going on just online feedback alone. I made myself a little pro/con list. I am hoping that by seeing what I see, maybe someone can help me tip the scales in one direction or the other!
Galaxy note 8 (not considering ipad mini, i like the note better)
Pros
-I am a physician, the size is perfect for carrying around the hospital in my white coat. As a former owner of an ipad 3, carrying that around was annoying.
-Colors look bright
-S-pen. I don't use it a whole lot on my note 2 phone, but i also dont take notes on my phone. I hope to be able to use my tablet for reading pdfs, highlighting and even following along in lectures. This provides that opportunity.
Cons
-Price, very difficult pill to swallow the price for half the resolution and processing power.
-Lack of XDA support (can this tablet even be rooted? Huge concern for me if not), I'm sort of a flashaholic.
-Havent had a chance to watch an HD movie yet.. can someone comment on what I might expect to see quality wise compared to my old ipad 3 and even the nexus 10?
Google Nexus 10
Pros
-Easily the most beautiful display available, I am a techie who wants the best and brightest
-Always updated by google blah blah, stock android
-Amazing developer community
Cons
-Size, I do like that tablet to fit in my whitecoat and not be cumbersome in the hospital all day
-I'd be buying blind, I have never seen a galaxy 10 tablet in person (ive seen the 7 but i know theyre very different)
Personally id go for the Nexus 7. I dont know how big your lab coat is but it can fit into a suit jacket snugly. I dont think you will see a big size difference between a Nexus 10 and a Note 8, and like you mentioned they are charging an arm and a leg for a vastly underequipped device because it is a "Note"

i thought about the nexus 7 but i found that extra inch pretty clutch for doing practice exam questions and viewing imaging. The 8" also would fit perfectly in the pocket (obviously 7" would too)
Nexus 10 On the Way
I recently purchased the $139 refurb deal on the Nexus 7 and while it's a nice tablet I found that the screen size was too small. I already have a Note 2 as my phone and found that the Nexus 7 didn't offer enough to justify using it over my Note 2. I ended up giving it to my kids to use. I next considered the Note 8 and the Nexus 10 just like you. I ultimately decided that I probably wouldn't be happy with the 8" screen size either. The reduced size Android tablets are designed mainly for vertical orientation and so make you feel like you are just using a scaled up phone, which doesn't appeal to me. I also think the Note 8 is over-priced. If Samsung made a Note 10 with a high-res display I would definitely get it, but they don't. I just can't see dropping money on a tablet that uses a 1280 resolution display. So I decided to go for the refurb deal on the Nexus 10 in the 32gb model. Like you I haven't ever seen one but like the idea of the high-res display and the Nexus brand (get updates right from Google). At $429 with free shipping I figure its worth ordering just to try out. Mine should be arriving tomorrow. Here is where I ordered from:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330899402811
I bought the Note 8. I also have / had the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Nexus 7, and iPad 3.
The Note 8 is for people who need to use it to write handwritten notes. None of the other tablets I've used come close to the Note 8 if that is what you need. The size is perfect for note taking. It can take the same amount and size notes on its smaller screen as the iPad can in zoomed mode. However if you do not need the note taking aspect of this tablet, you would be right to think it's over priced. I liked the Nexus 7 size better, it was just more comfortable to hold. The original Samsung 10.1 tablet is slow and the screen is not that great, but it is still my preferred device for videos, mostly because it can display them on the largest screen due to its aspect ratio. The iPad has a beautiful screen which made it a pleasure to use, and I didn't mind its weight at work, but I rarely use it at home because it's too big and heavy. The old 10.1 Android got more use, though now that I have the Note 8 it probably won't be used much any more. My recommendation would be to buy the Nexus 10 for home, and the Note 8 for work if you need it for note taking, but if you don't need the s pen, I would wait a month and see what the next Nexus 7 or 7.7 or 8 will be. It should be announced at Google IO.
my sugestion its that stay out of nexus 10 regarding its multiply issues with build quality until you are not testing the device to the blood before buying.
good luck

Go to any tablet on XDA and you will see just as many horror stories people returning their device 6 or 7 times due to some QC problem... Some people are just never happy. There are some legit problems but a lot of what you see is from people who get their jollys off complaining about a product they bought...
The only problem the nexus 10 has that others don't is a software issue... The thermal throttling is WAY too conservative... This can be easily fixed with a custom kernel... And as this guy says he is a flashaholic a custom kernel shouldn't be a problem...
All tablets with LCD screens have light bleed issues... If they has put an Ambled screen on this bad boy it would have raised the cost and people would have complained...
The one thing I wish is that they stuck to a 1080p res screen... There really is no reason to go above that... 1080p looks AMAZING on my 42" lcd(which by the way also has huge light bleed lol) it would look awesome on my nexus 10 especially since they probable could have gone with an AMoled screen at that res for the same price
As far as the OP goes, I I'd pick the nexus 10 lol
PS sorry for the rant lol
I just got the Note 8 today (attempting to making the switch from the Nexus 10). Both are great devices, but I just needed the S Pen feature work, so I went with the Note 8. It's too early to know which one I'll like better at the end.
I can tell you that I love the screen resolution on the Nexus 10. The Note 8 has no comparison when it comes to that department.

And its developments too.. Good luck.
I ended up buying both tablets today since I can return either in 15 days. SO far I'm undecided, but I am bummed out that there is no root option for the note 8.
On the flipside.. the nexus 10 is already seeming like a pain in the ass to carry around. Also, whoever designed the note 8 deserves a swift kick in the nuts for making the camera stick out on the back.
I picked uo the Galaxy note 8, 2 days ago. I am using it while on the road for work while at the hotel on the network I am watching the wifi signal strength drop ever time I cover thetop right back side of the tablet with my hand. I mean just the corner of it could any of you guys that have it check. I can post a a video if needed. You can not miss it.
Another issue is the battery life, it just goes too quick. Maybe I am not giving it enough time. If all I am going to get is 5 hours on this battery. I will take this tablet back.

I don't have any wifi issue with mine. I just tried to reproduce it, but I see no change in signal strength or Internet speed regardless of how I hold it. Check at another wifi location to rule out the hotel being the problem instead. Exchange it if it still does it.
I agree the battery could be better. It gets me through a work day, but needs to be plugged in before I'm ready to put it down for the night. The iPad does do much better with battery life. I'm not sure whether my other Android tablets are better though. Possibly, but it hasn't been noticeable to me.

Just because your single device had issues doesn't mean everyone elses does My Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 arrived just fine without any huge glaring issues (only "minor" issue my N7 had was screen lift, which was common during early models; none on the later model I bought).
If my device has problems that means that the quality control its bad . if a single device has problems it could havebeen yours , others and others . It could probably happen to you in the future also .
don t you think?
i think 50% of the nexus 10 units has problems from the number of complains onthe forums .
I want a clean product , like my money are . I need the perfect quality control from google and samsung togheder because i dont pay half money when I do .
Dont worry Ravanous ... nexus 10 has also 5 6 hours of battery. Buy note 8 or wait for ipad mini 2 if you can eat IOS.

There are thousands of Nexus 10 owners on these forums, which we can see from ROM and kernel downloads. Of those, there is at best only 10% of owners who actually post here. Of those 10%, only 2-3% have problems with their tablet. 2-3% of product that has issues is on the upper end of "acceptable" for most companies these days.

Nexus 10 is a great device but sometimes I wish I went with nexus 7 for its portability and it easier to hold. If those aren't issues for you I say go for it.
Hold out for supposed N7 successor to be announced at I/O?

I would also hold off for the next gen Nexus 7.
The Nexus 10 just doesn't have anywhere near the support or community the Nexus 7 has and I am willing to bet the next gen will be just as popular as the original N7 based on the potential price alone.
I have thought about ditching my N10 if the next gen N7 has a 1080P screen, micro HDMI port, and hopefully better audio.

+1 here. I wouldn't even come close to buying the Nexus 7 again now with a refresh supposedly around the corner.
Then again, I'll be purchasing the Nexus 10 in the next few days - I would personally probably still go for that myself. That's my own preference, though.
I have both, my 4 year old inherited the n7 and all I use is the n10. Unless you are a hobbit the size isn't an issue. Can't you do both? RMA and get the n10?

This. If you look at the bezel of the "bigger" tablet, it's exactly the same as the new Nexus 7 as well. I seriously doubt a Nexus 10 would have such a large side bezel.

The point I was trying to make is that the picture shows two Nexus 7's and a Nexus 4.
Look at my (Crudely) drawn edit from the photo above. Using the specs from Google's tech specs page.
Basically unless the Nexus 10 is as wide as the Nexus 4 is tall this image just shows two Nexus 7's.

I can see that, but the point I was trying to make out is the time on the clock instead of it being an actual next gen Nexus 10, Google sometimes leaves hints things with the clock. Judging from the screen on the back tablet shows it's the Nexus 7 anyway, it's just a silly error with me saying bigger instead of back.
