Glad there's no finger print scanner - Nexus 6 General

Spotted this article http://www.phonearena.com/news/Court-ruling-Police-can-coerce-fingerprint-to-unlock-iPhone_id62374 and it is another example of the court system knowing what best for us. And there will be news stories of the insane or the bad ass criminals SNIPPING OFF A FINGER to get at the big money... I like all ten of my digits - thank you very much. Honestly, can you convince a manic junkie that you really have diddly squat in your credit union account when you are carrying around a $700 phone? And then all the top cops are crying foul and seeing red over the move by apple's and android's software incorporation of the new 'pass code' system as part of the os. You can be sure the top cops and the courts will negate that one too.

tbh if my work email on my phone (that requires 8 digit pin unlock) would be compatible with fingerprint sensor. that would be one thing i wouldve liked. buuut...i dont see that happening at all so, idc for it either

You could just refrain from using it but having the option would still be nice for a lot of people.

I read that those scanners 'mostly' work but then 'mostly' is not good enough for me. I'd be over reacting on the ten percent of the time when they go fubar. And I am just as grumbly as the next guy at constantly unlocking the phone with a swipe... Being old does that. But then I read somewhere the new lollipop os will allow you to toggle the lock OFF when you tell it that the current location is safe. Now there's progress. Apple will copy that too.

I can say from experience and not reading that android scanners really don't work that great and iPhone scanners work unbelievably well. Certainly can't sum them all up as the same right now. Apple is on top in the mobile fingerprint scanning world currently. I'm hoping it picks up on android hardware, too. I definitely like using it and/or at least having the option.

Fingerprint readers on phones are just gimmicks, I for one am glad the nexus line hasn't gone the way of gimmicky features.

I wish more hardware would incorporate it. I've come to love it on my iPhones, but I'll be fine with my nexus 6 not having it. Scanners certainly have some conveniences when it can be used with apps and such for security. Though, on topic, there will always be issues when it comes to forms of security on a phone and the legal system.

It's a gimmick until you actually use it. The iPhone touchid is incredible and worked without flaw for the 48 hours or so I used it. Once you put in the original pin code at first boot I could easily unlock apps and the home screen with perhaps a half a second longer pause because of the fingerprint sensor. That being said, I would trust a pattern lock much more than I would a fingerprint sensor and with the VA judge's recent ruling I would be hesitant to trust having my phone locked with my fingerprint (except for first boot) ever again.

Yeah, I just hate hate when extra features are added in and I'm given a choice among options. Pin unlocks are stupid too. Oh and password unlock. Oh and those tapping passlocks. I always wonder why SMARTphones didn't just stick with being able to make phone calls. Anything else is just ridiculous. And don't get me started on texting. Such a gimmick. Why not just call?!!?

I too think the finger sensor is fantastic. It's the only feature on an iphone that I'm jealous of!

I love my fingerprint reader on the note 4 which works well 98% of the time for me and I love my fingerprint reader on the iPad air 2 which works 100% of the time for me....

absolutely disagree with this topic, and wish to have fingerprint protection in my phone to easy unlock, wakeup it.
something like Apple did or even better.
and Motorola did awesome spot for it on the back of their phones and nexus now as well.

yep i rather fancy the fingerprint thingy. it works very well for me on the the one max.
i have a finger swipe that unlocks the phone and opens up a music player.

Did we join the conspiracy theory website? Nobody is going to "[snip] off a finger to get at the big money". A person could far more easily be convinced to give up his or her password, with much less pain. Or they could just knock you out and stick your finger on the phone. I don't get this argument that a lot of people seem to make.
Either way, having a feature doesn't mean everyone has to use it. I don't use TouchID security on my iPhone, but I'm still happy it's there for a variety of reasons. It would still be nice to have something like that available on the Nexus. Anyone believing your nude photos, financial information, or felonious activities were safe just because you have a fingerprint scanner on your phone needs to do a bit more research on "How technology works". The people believing that deserve to have their stuff stolen.

Anyone who thinks data is safe or secure anymore hasn't been paying attention to the world recently. I bet half the people complaining about not having fingerprint scanning don't even encrypt their phones...

Data hasnt been secure since the first human who learned to write a letter. Sometimes, its amaizinng how people are fooled into trusting AntiVirus apps or programs or apple's figer print sensor.

my wife has the note 4 and my brother has the iPhone 6+ and i can say for sure, that the Apple ID works better, but not that much better. The note works like 90% of the time where apple seems to work a bit more than that. Overall i think what's most important about the scanner is what it can be tied to. Apple pay + scanner is a good idea and if implemented similarly for google wallet (can it? my wife doesn't use wallet and i didnt try) i could dig that too.

If it's implemented properly, a fingerprint scanner can be amazingly convenient. I use TouchID on my iPhone 6, and really wish my Moto X and N5 had it too. It's seriously awesome.

Gyroscope?

Do you think we can get Gyroscope on software firmware or its hardware limitations again?
Its cool and helpful
no way... it's hardware matter
The most amusing bit really is that accelerometers do the same thing as a gyroscope. Unless you happen to be in space or pull heavy G's as part of your daily life. For the purposes of figuring out a device's orientation accelerometers do the job just fine.
Apple have a nasty habit of adding old features and hailing them as revolution just because they make them sexy. "Look here, you can do videochat...it's a revolution!" Problem is that it's not over the phone like people have been doing for years but only over Wifi, and you can forget chatting to people with devices other than the iPhone. So they've taken a feature people have been using for years, cripple it and then sell it as the second coming. Brilliant marketing.
Or I'm wrong? I saw something on a phone can't remember. that the phone can see Shops/Restaurant using its camera somewhat like a scanner or and the display shown looks like Matrix something really cool and help.

Sure, it's been in the Android market for a long time. Just do a search.
The OP simply asked a question, which I believe the posts that I left standing pretty much answer it. There was no need for flaming.
@iead1
Consider yourself warned.
may be we could use g sensor with the compass to make thing like gyroscope
I think there are aspects of the Apple Gyroscope that will be revolutionary. For starters it will now be used to assist in pin pointing your current location with much greater accuracy. In addition, because it is Apple there will be some functionalities of new games that will only be possible using pitch and yawl. I am not saying that it wasn't possible before, but because it is Apple and their market machine has plastered this feature all over everything, I believe there will now be games and apps created by third parties to take advantage of it. Where as before it was too low key for anyone to take seriously. In the end it is the consumer who will still benefit.
As for facetime. I live in France and first used video chat about two years ago. It's a great feature, but cost way too much to use day to day.
The Iphone 4G might actually be on to something. Take the telephone company out of the equation. Ok, I understand this limitation was created more out of necessity than anything else. But there are several great products that came about out of some limitation or another. And, wouldn't it be great to move towards eliminating phone companies once and for all? This might prove to be a reason service providers switch to a flat fee for world wide service. Who knows what benefits could come out of this beyond the free video chat.
There are boat loads of people that will benefit from the fact that this is free to use. Ok, you won't use it in it's current state for every phone call. But if you are a family that is separated by circumstances you will certainly find time to use it when ever possible; maybe even every day. And, with the number of hot spots exploding, it will be easier than the detractors would have us believe. Oh, and did I mention it will be free to use! In addition, there will be plenty of third party apps created to offer services for this feature that we haven't even considered yet.
And, let's not ignore the absolute fact that once this product is out, it will be the best built device in the market.
Plus, the image is suppose to be mind blowing. And, the pictures and HD video at 5.0 are suppose to be much superior to the 8 mega we currently have in our X10's. Hey that sounds good to me.
I will surely be following the device. I will give it a month or two just to see what the feedback is. And, if it is half as good as it looks right now I will buy one for me and my lady.
Don't get my feedback wrong. I am no fanboy. In fact I have never owned an apple anything! But, it sure does look like I will be buying this device,,, times 2!

[Q] Are you returning the phone?

After dealing with all the delays, non-existent support and updates and failed promises to ship the phone with next day shipping, I decided that I had tolerated enough and demanded my money back. Hopefully that is easy.
Here's why Dell Venue Pro sucks:
1. Too big. Usually big is a 'good' thing according to the trend of 2010. However, when it's big but also thick, it reminds me of my iPAQ from 12 years ago. With the Otter Case it gets even worse.
2. Horrible Camera. It's slow to activate unlike the Focus, and it takes blurry pictures even in just slightly dim light. I know that no camera phones can take pictures in dim light well, but DVP's camera is blurry even in a room during the day. My T-Mo G1 can do better than that.
3. No 4G. Just a UI change is not enough to switch phones and pay more per month as I had been using Android, and all the newest droids out there have way faster speeds that can even do video chat.
4. Keyboard is not that well integrated. Turns out the "fn" key and "shift" key are highly unpredictable, since it doesn't have any indicator that it's simply on or locked on. I mistyped more password than I did with the soft keyboard. Therefore, it's not worth the bulk.
5. Thoroughly unhackable. No SD Card slot access. No tethering trick. No screenshot trick.
6. Bottom buttons are capacitive. Looking back, the dev phone was perhaps the only great phone because they have hard buttons for Back, Windows and Search keys. Using touch buttons for these important commands make the OS experience finicky. For example, it's too easy to hit the Bing button accidentally while taking photos. It was also way too easy to got kicked out of a game - and having the resume afterwards makes things worse.
7. No confidence left for Dell Mobility, or even Dell in general: They folded the mobile division already. Their updates for Dell Aero and Dell Streak took months and months to fulfill, so how will the DVP be any different? We had already suffered through the lack of information on shipping, and I would expect firmware updates not to be any different.
8. This thing crashes. Unlike some other users here, mine crashes even when Wifi is off. The crashes are all random and not confined to Marketplace or 3rd party apps. If Dell was not so irresponsible, I would ask for an exchange instead of a return, but this is a dealbreaker to me.
One thing I am glad about it is, I had waited long enough to find out about Samsung's Omnia 8, and probably better phones to come in CES and Mobile World Congress.
Thanks, Dell, for being awful, and ruining what would be a good phone.
I plan on giving Dell one more shot. I've been waiting a week now for my replacement. I'll wait for that replacement (even if it takes another week or two) and if the replacement is unstable or has any other problem then I'll return it and pick another phone.
You are right, this phone could be near perfect. It just seems that Dell rushed it.
I'm in the same boat. I love the phone except a few major problems.
1- WiFi Crashing
2- Bluetooth not staying connected
Below are WP7 issues
3- Cannot sync with Outlook
4-No mass storage
5- Cannot connect to hidden WiFi networks!!!!
I miss cut and past but can live without it I need the rest fixed if I'm going to be able to keep it.

I don't know....my WiFi lags but doesn't crash. My BT is fine. Outlook syncs fine, but I've been syncing cloud stuff fine. Storage, I have 16gigs. Will I use more..who knows or cares. Hidden WiFi...something strange about that. Its hidden for a reason, if dvp could see it, ITT wouldn't be hidden. Seems like homey reasons to quit to me. But then again , you're not me. I got what I expected. Is it 100% perfect? Nope...but I wasn't expecting it to be. I wonder if iphone4 people are returning it because of the alarm...to me the best reason to return a phone is...i don't like it. All other reasons show up on most other phones too... Just my opinion
this phone has more problems now that i think about it. but mines a keeper. i like the windows UI and the look of the dvp. its rare and you cant just buy it at, say, tmobile stores. =D
I love the phone but you know as much as I love it I can't use a phone that doesn't work. When I pay $550 for a phone I think the least it can do is work so as much as it kills me I called them last night and told them I want my money back. I gave them a week or so to see if they would give some responce to the problems posted on the forums but nothing which means they're not going to fix the problems or they're going to be real slow about it. And the whole 30days thing you guys have over here means I cant really wait around to find out so I'll have my money back thanks!
The problems I had with the phone were numerous:
- WiFi crashing constantly
- bluetooth constantly disconnecting from car kit
- 3G signal loss and complete network loss
- white noise in earphones
...and then to top it all off, and this is a WP7 issue more so than a DVP issue - however the marketplace works and because I used my old windows live id to setup the phone, M$ basically still think I'm in Ireland for whatever reason and as a result I can't download any of the good stuff eg: Netflix, LastFM etc... and some apps I download are for european region instead of US and so are completely useless to me.
Anyway all in all I had no choice but to get a refund. Bummer!
This venue pro will be going back for the same reasons which have been found in this post.
1. No 4G. Just a UI change is not enough to switch phones and pay more per month as I had been using Android, and all the newest droids out there have way faster speeds that can even do video chat.

I no longer feel confident with DELL. Furthermore, I dont like how we were treated throughout this launch, especially in a economy when spending 500+ dollars on a item is a luxury. I have purchased phones outright before and have never gone through a process like this.
I wanted to believe that this phone could of been more but if I wait until my 30 days are up I will be s### out of luck. I'll see what CES has up its sleeve.
This venue is definitely going back unless something miraculously happens with DELL or Microsoft regarding the phones OS. I doubt it though.

The phone syncs with Exchange not Outlook, 16GB is good for storage if all you want is music and videos, forget if you want other files and there is no explorer to find files anyways.
My company hides their SSID as many companies do, if you have the settings you can connect and my WM5 phones would connect but I can't with the latest and greatest from MS while people at my company with Android and iPhones connect with no issues.
For the money I spent I wasn't expecting a beta unit because this thing was not ready for primetime.
I'm keeping my 8GB model. I don't have any crashing issues whether or not WiFi is on.
It would be nice if the cam were better and there wasn't some slight hissing through headphones during quiet segments of music, but neither of these are deal breakers to me. Supposedly Dell is working on updating the cam software, but again, not a huge deal to me.
It it going back.
Dell support is no good and rude, most don't even know what the DVP is. Every step of my dealing with dell has been a pain from getting my phone to the 4 hours it took trying to get it activated with the rep from dell who kept trying to get me off the line so he could "call me back."
The phone is very nice but so not worth the hassle. Dell has given me the worst customer service I have ever had, no way in hell I am gonna be stuck dealing with them for the next 2 years.
Mine for some reason would not turn on unless I popped the battery multiple times. Kept losing service on the 2g/3g switch, photos were absolute trash.
I will miss what could of been, but this thing is going back. On to my iPhone.
Thanks To You All
Hi Ladies and Gents
I'm fairly new to these forums and just wanted to say thanks to you all for the great feed back on the DVP!! I'm from Canada, and as you all know we can't get the device up here unless we provide a US address...I've been working around this issue which I finally resolved, and now for the past 2 weeks or so have been going back and forth between the DVP or a Nexxus S. I soooo love the form factor of the DVP, but have decided that it's to risky to take a chance on getting a somewhat flawless device to work up here...it's going to take a lot of time and effort to get either of these devices, so I want to make the correct choice the first time....I to have had issues calling Dell just to try and figure out how to ship the darn thing, and have been bounced around so many times!!! Their CS is garbage...none of them know anything about the device!! I was willing to get it even with the RAM issues and the no multitasking/cut and paste, but all the other issues are just to great of a hurdle to jump. I know the Nexus S has it issues but it being pure Google, I know the support will be there...
Thanks Again for making a very hard decision that much easier, and good luck to you all whether you keep your DVP or send it back!!
Cheers!!

Thanks for the tip. I was used to Android where the indicator is right at the cursor.
Already shipped it back in favor of my nexus S. Got tired of the constant crashes and decided I didn't want to be an early adopter of W7

think its interesting, well actually I think its funny really, and anyone on this thread with a long device history on this forum can attest, the actual reasons people give for liking or not liking a device. I extend that comment to the iPhone and nexus brands, as well as others. For example:
Crashes: every phone crashes. Everyone. Read the Engadget review about the crash macine....sorry , the nexus s. they all crash somewhere
..period
Camera: they all suck. If you're using a Dell but expect a Nikon , then your expectation sucks. Some are better, but none are good.
Configuration: don't even sit there and tell me what great configuration schemes Android has. The configuration is just as spacey on those devices too. How easy is it to get hotmail on iPhone? As easy as Google maps on wp7?
Cloud stuff: huh, what? Bottom line is it takes understanding and preparation. Once done, its done. Don't trust the Microsoft cloud, but trust the Google cloud...good luck with that.
Support: did someone sat Google support? I call bull****.
Best reason for returning the Dvp I have read so far is, "I tried the Nexus S, and it worked better for me". Great answer!!! Guy just stood up and said it. Cool. Not some bs answer like WiFi crashing...someone will find you over in some other forum posting about your other new phone crashing ...you know its true.
BTW, I heard the iPhone alarm still doesn't work, and what's this I'm reading about the latest undocumented feature on the Nexus. And the Incredible is doing what?? Droid!!! Great commercials.
I just like my Dell. I like my HD7 too. If you don't,that's fine...just watch the excuses...sorry, I mean reasons.
I want the one with the WiFi and most gb's.
Sorry for the rant...check out the other forums here and see if what I say isn't true!

Classic and spot on! The DVP isn't perfect, but its not the first, and won't be the last buggy phone to be released, and certainly if someone isn't happy with it they should return it. I tried an hd7, didn't like it and returned it, no fuss no muss. And I should say, I'm happy enough with mine and am keeping it, worst case scenario I use it for six months then get some other wp7 AWS device, if there ever is one.

Lol, this is your best point? An alarm clock?
How about WinPho 7 alarm not overriding the music volume and not even going off?
As for crashes I can count the amount of time my iPhone has crashed on 1 hand and the amount of time my nexus one has crashed on 2. I apologize if I want something to work when I buy it. The DVP wouldn't even power on in some cases without pulling the battery. I'm sorry but if the phone is a headache just to turn on then I don't want it. Perhaps you disagree, but there is no need to come in here on a high horse trying to dictate what we should expect from a phones camera, or general usage.
Do I expect a nikon?
No I expect something that can take a decent shot ala the iPhone/Nexus 1/Nokia N8. Obviously there are phones on the market capable of taking great shots,so why should I as a consumer expect lesser performance? If you like a half-ass phone then so be it.
It the DVP the worst phone on the market?
No there is much worst out there, but once again there is much better and as a consumer I am going to go with what is best. I returned mine and hopefully another company gets it right eventually. But honestly the argument that there are buggier phones is pathetic.

With this kind of reasoning you might as well be happy buying a Vertu.
"Hey, this thing takes photos, and can read gmail too!!!!!! I just like my Vertu. If you don't like it, you have a problem!!"
All that I said was that the DVP is bigger than I need, and the keyboard is not as advantageous as I thought it to be. The camera is objectively worse than many camera phones out there, and Dell does not inspire confidence on whether there will even be firmware fixes or not. It's all pretty logical, IMO.
Seriously, don't get offended when people compare it with iPhone or Nexus S. I already tried to be fanboy-sensitive by comparing it to Samsung Focus. But if my post induces potential buyer's remorse on you, it's not my problem. This thread is to be shared with those who already had our remorse.
I love this phone but am hoping that they fix the issues. Most of the bugs that people have should be fixable with a replacement device. The crazy thing is that the initial Engineering Sample that I had seemed to have the least issues. The 16GB model I have in my hands now crashes all the time so I am hoping that it is just a bad phone and when I get my replacement it works as expected.
I expect many will return their phones because of the whole exchange process which is frustrating to say the least.
personally as a non standard smartphone user i plan to keep the device barring hardware malfunction
not really a big talker or texter and i dont mind the crashes as long as they only happen once a day
i can see how a person might be upset though if they spent half a grand on a phone they can only use on tmobile that has issues
glad i didnt buy off contract even though ill be stuck on tmo for 2 years i can always get another phone that uses tmo bands at full price

Xperia ARC and future with NFC

I am all about new stuff and gadgets and like to try things when they are available. I know NFC is not something that we can use soon(maybe we can) but do you guys care the ARC doesn't have NFC?
Any inputs would be nice and educational.
Thanks everyone.
PS* I know Xperia ACRO in Japan will have it soon + I know that we can't pack everything in one package.

It's nice to see what you can do with it but i don't see it happening soon.

I am not saying that I can trust the system yet but here in the US some banks will start using it for testing in 2011. + there would be more things coming out of it!
This is probably SC-02C in japan with NFC/infrared and TV tuner (Xperia ACRO)
SOURCE
I live in Netherlands and here is no interstate (yet) and you have to wait to see it succeed. The system has to be secure. Anyways i think that you wont miss anything big with nfc nowadays maybe over a year or two after heavy testing. Just my thoughts

SC-02C has all those but then they said it is only for Japanese market since people use all those features like Infrared and TV Tuner + NFC? but look @ it, its certainly ticker more like X10 but still alot nicer and I wouldn't mind buying it and not having a curvy back might be good(I haven't got the ARC yet but once I get it I can compare it with my X10 and judge it then)
I bet they tried to make it as thin as possible to compete with iPhone in other markets while lots of people are going towards iPhone.
Pardon me for my google ignorance.. but what is NFC ?
NFC.
It's not a Google-specific tech.
Nokia have been sticking it into odd handsets here and there for a few years, the new WebOS devices use it too.
Away from phones, an increasing number of credit and debit cards use it as well as the Oyster card system the London underground uses.

"Google ignorance" as in "can't bother opening google and searching"
Thanks for the explanation !
In terms of financial transfers, I really couldn't give a hoot's monkey; my collegue has an NFC debit card, but if I received one I'd send it back due to my own conclussion of risk involved, but in terms of the future of NFC and what ELSE it's capable of, it interests me, but I don't feel I'm at any particular loss. It's hardly the next Multi-Touch.

Right! haha
To be honest. I know both manufacturers and companies need to make the leap together to start introducing it but really. I would need to be able to use it in more than the train station or Mc Donalds before I would bother
NFC is more than just payments though, the possibilities are endless.
I think that, properly implemented, it'll dwarf the usefulness of multi-touch which, lets face it, is only really used to marginally-improve zooming in and out in the web browser.
NFC tags could be embedded into almost anything and could be used for almost anything.

.... I see you've never played games, used Google Maps, Google Earth, or pinched on the Arc's home screen.
I can't think of a single game I've played on my phone(s) that required multi-touch.
Admittedly, I'm kinda tight-fisted so I've really only played the decent free ones like Angry Birds, Paper Toss, Bubble Blaster etc.
As for Google Maps and a phone's homescreen, fair enough I forgot those uses but it's basically the same as the web browser - zooming in and out.
And I'd wager most people zoom in and out on a web browser far more than they do on their handset's homescreen.
Even if NFC were only used for payments, it still makes it far more useful than multi-touch which, lets face it, we could all live without.
But as I say, the possibilities are endless, it's just a matter of thinking more broadly.

Authentec fingerprint scanner company bought by Apple, could be available in iPhone 5

and here are some comments from apple fanboys
Code:
fingerprint??? OMG
Not bad! I like the idea of the fingerprint home screen button.
if the fingerprint scan is true, it will be plus one for innovation... good luck to that!
Fingerprint scan to unlock is amazing!!
I like the ideaf of scanning a fingerprint on Home button. So natural! I hope this will be really true.
no one even knows that it was available on another phone before
Source
MOD EDIT: Adding more facts regarding the fingerprint reader company to help this thread stay factual and changed title to reflect true contents.
Apple BOUGHT the company that MAKES fingerprint reading for the Atrix, Authentec...
Apple may use this in iOS 6 for their digital wallet 'Passbook' (speculation, but highly likely)
source - http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/08/...ckly-products/
Apple happened to buy the company right after Samsung signed a major deal with Authentec
source - http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/27/app...ntec-for-365m/
Finally as far as lawsuits go, Authentec is the only company with this technology at this time regardless if it's on Android, iOS or an embedded linux box. If lawsuits happen, it's because with Apple as the new owner, they can terminate contracts with Motorola or Samsung, which would leave Moto & Sammy with no legal recourse except to sue for breach of contract... No infringement here, everyone is using Authentec's technology...
Who has patent? Maybe it will be similar like Samsung vs. Apple Anyway, Apple has been always good in "selling not well-knowed, but existing, features". (I have nothing against Apple)
if this is true Apple gonna get sued by Google for that
You all realize Apple bought the company that produced the fingerprint scanners for the Atrix, right? So no, Google will not sue.

Yeah, we all saw this coming. It was obvious. Their so called "innovation" at its glory. Taking products that existed before, re-launching them, and the saying that its entirely a new feature. *cough*notificationbar*cough*
Apple's marketing is unparalleled. They take something and make it popular. #brainwashed

The Atrix was not the first with a fingerprint sensor, my old LG Expo had one over a year before the Atrix, and had the scan to unlock feature.

I don't mind Apple using existing features and even marketing them as something special and unique for the iProducts. They are well within their rights to do that.
I do mind Apple suing companies over features that they did not, themselves, invent. I do mind Apple bringing lawsuits against Samsung over products that look completely different, saying they all look the same as the iPhone/iPad. There was no theft of any kind, Samsung didn't sell an iPhone ripoff, they sold a completely different product that shared some similar features - much like Apple is doing with their new-found fingerprint scanning technology.
They are using existing technology, marketing it (they're really good at marketing) until the world thinks Apple invented it, then suing anyone else who has it. It's a lousy way to innovate the market, if that's what you call it.
iSheep are going to piss themselves like an excited dog.

Motorola is gonna get sued for copying the iPhone 5's fingerprint unlock... They should innovate, not copy Apple's ideas!
Why is this even a thread? This is just some guy's concept about what he thinks would be cool for the next iPhone.
But honestly, I would love it if the iPhone got a fingerprint scanner. Then everyone else would implement it in their phones instead of tossing the idea away like Motorola did. I love the Atrix's fingerprint scanner and it's disappointing that I can't upgrade to something with the same feature.

No, because then Apple would probably sue.
Well Moto might be able to sue them for coping the idea of putting the fingerprint scanner on the phone not the tech itself. Also atrix sensor u swipe when icrap is scanning by just placing the finger so 2 techs are different u can say. Anyways we dont know if they have scanner in the first place but before that have to wait for samsung vs icrap trial about LTE muahahahaha
Mock. Up. XD if this was an Apple "innovation" you wouldn't know about it yet.
Just pray someone else has the vague 'a scanner of some type anywhere on phone' patent.

I'm no Apple fanboy but good for them. Everyone else dropped the ball for the most part. Fingerprint unlock should be a no-brainer standard feature on all portable devices. Why the non-Apple world continuously fails to do the obvious before Apple is beyond me.
Even though this is just an artist's mock but if its actually true.. meh let em.. its not like its going to make me or hardly any of us suddenly jump to ios because of this..
I know the fanboys will start gloating how apple invented fingerprint scanning but i gave up on arguing with them a long time back..

Data sense - lost in action
Kids corner - useless to most people
Ie10 - most mobile websites are programmed to use WebKit.
Rooms - useless unless everyone has a wp8 device
Wallet and NFC - useless
Work flow and voice - been out for years on android
I'm very disappointed in wp8. It is in no way competitive. I have an iphone5, galaxy s3 and htc 8x. The 8x isn't even close to the other devices. And no I'm not a troll. Only someone talking from experience.

The op asked for opinions. Microsoft also asks (even if they don't listen) for opinions. Expressing an opinion different to your own is not trolling.
That said...
I like the kids corner thing... really its multi user mode. I just don't think it is a bullet point for 99% of consumers. I watch parents hand their phones to their kids for entertainment every day. Its a nice feature to have multi user environments but needs a better selling job from ms. Think "risque photos on a girls phone, being handed to dad, to make a phonecall" , yes , there is a win.
The features that other phones have had aren't really a huge selling point, if wp just implemented them. It comes across as 'me too!'
If people dont notice the new home screen, its not "new" enough. Having to point out that a puppy has "really floppy cute ears, see !" Means they aren't a big deal, or aren't floppy or cute, or NEW enough. That part is painful to watch. I really felt sorry for the salesman in the wp videos on youtube.
If noticed though, that the latest youtube channel videos are playing on the "smoked" promotion idea. Sending a text message 3 seconds faster (or other very practiced objectives by the host) is a yawner now. It was funny at first with 'smoked' but the stacking of the deck spoiled the fun, people resented it. Guess Microsoft's advertising dollars are learning, and persistant, even to a fault.

You're delusional. You also obviously are missing the entire point of a mobile experience. They can all have the same features across the board, the implementation is the key focus here. Windows Phone is a joy and ease to use. iPhone is extremely simple to use, but the potential and implementation of it's features are a headache. The ONLY thing that those other two platforms may have over Windows Phone is the marketshare and mindshare to utilize their potentials. Once specific WinPhone8 apps begin to come out, and I mean REAL apps utilizing the new developer features, then you'll see this come to the forefront even more. Android can clean me after a bowel movement, doesn't mean it isn't the most inefficient OS ever created, REQUIRING multiple cores to even be close to the fluidity of Windows Phone. I got honest with myself and said "do I really need the ability to install multiple file explorers on my phone?"

ahhh, "they all can" as in a comparison, not "they all do". sorry, I missed that the first time. gotit.
the rest was "chicken before the egg, which is first" as far as developers go. I was serious in the question as to whether wp9 will be ready when android share starts declining. the developers and mindshare needs to be priority number 1 right now at microsoft campuses.
given past quotes from microsoft, wp8 was in develope
ment when wp7 was released. hopefully wp9 is well underway, tiles have been rethunk, along with opening the platform up and feeding devs everything NOW. (sorry for the run on)
might be a good idea to keep all these wp8 early adopters in mind too... hard to get folks to walk across the same burning bridge twice.

Used a GSIII for about 26 days, it was easily the worst experience I've had on a mobile device. Before you ask yes it was on the stock AT&T ROM. Bloatware everywhere and applications wouldn't be in alphabetical order. It felt unorganized and not uniform to me, I must have OCD and require theme colors lol.
Personally found myself using my phone a lot less when I had the GSIII then when I had my Lumia 920 in just the day to day of whipping it out and messing around with it. Also Skype never worked consistently on the GSIII that was a real pain.
In a side note most reviewers said you have to use two hands on the 920...I single hand it constantly with no issues whatsoever. Guess my hands are freakishly strong or I'm not a little girl.
