[Q] Question installing custom rom 0x0 for my s5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are so many threads, I am lost. My S5 is G900F ANE2. So some questions as I want root and a debloated custom rom while keeping 0x0:
I want to keep 0x0, what root method is available for my model?
Once rooted and flashed; how can I go back to non-rooted stock rom if necessary?
what custom rom and installation method are there for my model?

You can use Towelroot to root and keep KNOX on 0x0. and install Xposed framework. You could also flash the pre-rooted latest NeatRom http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-neatrom-v1-t2828562 with Odin 3.09 and also keep KNOX to 0x0. Thats about it, most other custom roms need to be flashed with a custom recovery.

Towelroot says my device is not compatible ... for neatrom, which installation procedure should I use?
"Installation Instructions: If you're coming from a Samsung stock NON-Rooted ROM before NG2/NG7/NG9/NH4/NH6 (KNOX 0x0)"??
what is NG2, etc...? How to know if mine is after or before that??
edit: neatrom says it needs towelroot to root the phone but towelroot says my phone isn't currently supported

Install CPU-Z or Phone Info for Samsung from Play to identify the device., but probably its not a fake one.

does not look fake.. seems genuine in cpuz. My baseband is actually G900F ANE2 but build number is G900F ANI3 ... is that normal?

Baseband should be at least ANG8 for that firmware afaik. ANE2 is an old modem. You can download and install new modems from the XtreStoLite thread and flash it with Odin, will not trip KNOX. Was the device new when you bought it?

Yes you can flash a modem sepereatly or flash a stock rom with Odin. BTW if you want to flash a modem you have to flash the latest bootloader first with Odin. BL are also posted in the XtreStoLite thread.

Yup, power down the phone, pull the battery, wait 20 seconds, uncheck Auto Reboot in Odin and flash the BL, when done pull the battery again, wait again and flash the modem and reboot. Place the bootloader in BL and modem in CP in Odin.

Need of guide for how to go pure stock 4.3 mk4 to custom

There are many like me who went stock 4.3 mk4 just to experience it but now want to revert to custom roms again. As far as I understand there is no root for 4.3 as of yet. Speaking of Knox there are many who do not really care about raised flag. I also understand that once on 4.3 you cannot downgrade. Ok. But there should be some work around to flash 4.3 mk4 custom roms. Can our stalwarts help here?
Please @dr.ketan, @wanam?

Why not? just flash a cwm recovery and flash any custom Rom.
I got the pure stock MK4 rooted after failure multiple times. I think it is important to have the right recovery and rooting files.
Please try with philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar.md recovery and Dr. Ketan's Multitool Advanced V5
@abdulm
Please share the steps with links, it will simple for first time rooters....
So what I understand is even though we have Knox security, we can root the firmware. After rooting the official firmware we can flash the newer mk4 roms ?

Downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1.2

My phone have
Custom Binary count: No.
Device status: Official.
In the setting>about device>status>device status:Normal. Now, I'm getting on 4.1.2 from MJ5 4.3. I used the followings
1. flash the respective official 4.1.2 firmware from sammobile.com. after finish flashing , go to recovery mode and wipe data.
2. flash Philz recovery via Odin.
3. install updated 4.1.2 modem (XXDME4 / DXDMF1 / DDMG1) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044937 via CWM (at this step you should get IMEI back.)
4. root the device with CF-auto root.(CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.tar)
5. install Triangle away to reset flash counter.
6. full unroot super SU
7. wipe all data/factory reset .
Check the device status in setting. And then go to download mode to check again.
I'm not sure is this steps working on every Galaxy note 2 N7100. But actually I've been downgraded to 4.1.2 and I can get OTA also (already checked).
I decided to downgrade my N7100 because most of the custom roms use high RAM usage.
When at the firmware upgrade fail status,
1. Just flash "Philz recovery" via Odin.
2. After finished, Long press Vol up + Home + Power button to get into recovery mode.
3. Choose Wipe data/factory reset and "CLEAN TO IN STALL NEW ROM"
All of this step finished, Go to download mode "Vol down + Home + Power button" and flash the firmware (4.3 or 4.1.2 again).
NOTICE.
Dear all,
The latest 4.3 official firmware (MK4 or later ) has KNOX enabled bootloader and can't be downgrade. So, don't try to downgrade If your bootloader is KNOX enabled.

Remove KNOX bootloader to return to stock - using Dr. Ketan Method
Hi Guys,
I just want you opinion before i do this step. Hence asking
KNOX enabled boot loader has messed up my idea of return to Stock either via KIES or via ODIN.
I flashed the official Indian 4.3 ROM on my EU model NOTE 2 over the leaked ROM with MJ5 and it failed. I couldn't recover the phone with KIES either.
KIES will say that firmware update / emergency recovery has encounterd an error.
ODIN says FAIL and "Device Unsupported" appears in Download screen.
Shall i try Dr. Ketan's KNOX bootloader removal method to get my mobile back ? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500823 )
Can i then flash the original firmware N7100XXDMF1 on my Note 2 (EU version) ?
Would appreciate if you guys could help me on this.
I can still access the download mode with KNOX boot loader.
Thanks

I'm able to flash the recovery thru odin, just do it and now i'm able to boot in recovery mode.
But i'm not able to flash the new rom via cwm because i'm not able to mount the sd card (it works only as usb storage, not as sd card mode and so i'm not able to upload the rom file on it).
I can find a solution for this, but i'm not sure it will work because now i have the knox firmware (warranty bit 1) and it isn't downgradable. Am i right?

[Q] how to update to lollipop with odin on locked bootloader S5

Hello Everybody
i bought an s5 on eBay with locked bootloader, it has no logo or carrier ,i have downloaded the compatible lollipop firmware from samfirware, now i am worried that if i flash it via odin than would i be able to boot normally with new bootloader?
can someone help me how exactly should i do?
plz help me friends.
Bootloader will be updated also if you'd flash a full and original Rom. I also updated that way with the first Rom for poland.
If your S5 is in the original status you're lucky. If youre rooted you'll loose root.
Just be sure to flash the right one for your model! Otherwise you might have a bricked device.
1. Download the Rom from Samfirmware/Samdownloads
2. Download Odin (3.09 or higher)
3. be sure the Samsung USB-drivers are installed on your computer
4. open Odin and bring your phone into download mode (vol- & Home & power)
5. Connect your phone via USB to your computer and be sure Odin shows up your phone as "ADDED"
6. Select the extracted file (your-rom.tar.md5) as AP
7. select ONLY "f. time reset" and "reboot after download" with marks.
8. Start the flashing process and wait till "succeed!" appears (there will be a "reset" before)
9. you can disconnect your phone now and enjoy Lollipop

7. select ONLY "f. time reset" and "reboot after download" with marks.

thank you for your help my friend,
will i get the same locked bootloader after flashing?
and what about stock recovery?
i mean will i be able to go in to reccovery mode?
What you will do is an update.
Everything will be at stock if it was before!
You're doing a official update and the Knox counter will stay at 0x0.
The bootloader will be stock (locked), the recovery will be stock and accessable.
This will be a S5 as you buy it in the store, just with Lollipop inside. ☺
I hope you told me everything about your phone. If it's not completely stock sth's might be different in flashing process!!
If you bought a non edited (no flash, no root) S5 everything should be fine. The bootloader is always locked.

I dont know!
I never did this with my S5. But I think the only think that could happen is, that the recovery will be overwritten when it's updated.
How can u are knoxed 0x0 with a custom recovery?

Not a cool thing! Cause it cant write into recovery, kernel and CSC partitions. You need compatible Roms for this. I dont like it.
I think u can do your flash.

[How-To] Update to G900P_OD3-5.0 and KeepRoot w/Knox(0x0)

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
Downloads:
- G900P_OD3_Stock_Rooted_ROM
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Press "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to *"Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the **flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the G900P_OA6_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
*If you are already on the OA6 bootloader, set "Reboot" setting to "Normal" and skip Step 7.
**The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition.
Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Sprint splash screen for about 1 - 2 minutes before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery to OD3. The ROM will not update your bootloader to OD3 in order to allow downgrading to previous firmware versions.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. If you do not already have root access (or to unbrick) you must flash the NE5 full Odin .tar using Odin's PDA/AP slot and root with TowelRoot, before continuing with the above process.
5. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

2. The above process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery to OD3 (for safety reasons and to allow for downgrading to NE5 the OD3 bootloader is not included. However the G900P_OA6_Bootloader is required for the ROM to boot).
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. If you are currently unrooted and on a non-"Towelroot-able" firmware version you must a)downgrade to NE5 using Odin, b)root using Towelroot then proceed with the above process.

Since the ROM will not flash the OD3 bootloader you will be able to downgrade back to 4.4.2, however you will need to Odin flash the OA6 bootloader in order for the ROM to boot. As for sim unlock, I know nothing about how that works on this device.

Okay, can you check if I understood the process correctly?
1. I'm in stock OD3, not rooted so I need to root my device first. (Is root necessary? and do you know how to root OD3?)
2. Get flashfire app.
3. Copy G900P_OD3_Stock_Rooted_ROM to storage.
4. Flash using flashfire app.
5. Flash G900P_OA6_Bootloader using ODIN.
6. I can now downgrade to stock NE5 using ODIN. (can I use the one from sammobile.com?)
Can you check if I understood the process correctly? Thanks.

The point of this process is to keep knox (0x0). Twrp will trip the warranty bit so use towelroot. If you do not know what root is I suggest that you first do alot of reading before flashing anything.

Okay. Let me just clarify if I understood this.
The things that I need:
1. Flashfire
2. G900P_OD3_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip
3. G900P_OA6_Bootloader.tar.md5
4. SM-G900P_NE5.tar
Process:
1. Flash G900P_OD3_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip in flashfire.
2. Flash SM-G900P_NE5 .tar in ODIN. What will happen after I boot this?
3. Towelroot
4. G900P_OA6_Bootloader.tar.md5 in ODIN.
Can you check if I understood it right? Thanks.
Success but I have a question....
I successfully updated to 0d3 using this method. I was wondering if it is possible for me to downgrade if needed to 0A6? I .am rooted using odin and superuser.
Thanks in advance

Galaxy S7 G935F - Recovery root

Hi guys
Just got a brand new, G935F S7, would like to root and install custom recovery to install the dream S8 Port.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/root-proton-x-1-0-t3497772
I looked around, but found a few different versions of recovery and rooting options.
Is there a link i can jump to for the easiest, less risk way?
I have SM-G935F (Black Onix) and i have TWRP+Root and Custom ROM
Download:
TWRP -> Twrp-3.0.2-4-hero2lte.img.tar
Odin -> Odin
1. activate developer mode on the current system and turn on the option 'enable OEM
2. reboot phone mode to 'download mode' and flash using Odin (position AP) TWRP recovery [ATTENTION you must turn off autoreboot options in odin and after flash manually reboot the phone into recovery mode]
3. You can flash SuperSU or if you want custom rom with root:
3.1 go to options and select wipe data format - write "yes" then after finishing wipe necessarily restart phone to recovery mode [ATTENTION this operation will clear the memory of the phone without touching the data contained on the ex-scdard]
3.2 flash in the recovery file no-verity-opt-encrypt-2.2.zip
3.3 reboot phone to recovery mode
3.4 Flash your favorite rom and wait for boot up I recommend Ambasadii ROM..
Have a good day
