Ok guys, have been on these forums for hours but I am still lost.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, ATT, 4.2.2, I337UCUAMF3, rooted.
I am wanting to flash the 4.4.4 (or whatever the latest android version is) google edition / pure nexus ROM if this is even possible in my case.
From what I have read, I know that I need to flash a custom recovery first. Do I use safestrap? I am not sure how to do this.
Can anyone please link me to the guide that I need for my phone. Thank you in advance.

So I am at this step:
Which version do I need to flash?
Took NI1 update --> ATT_NI1_modules.zip
Took NC1 update --> ATT_NC1_modules.zip
ODIN NB1 (rootable) --> ATT_NC1_modules.zip -- NC1 Kernel was added to Odin file in order for Towelroot to be compatible.
ODIN MK2 (running KitKat ROMs) --> ATT_MLD_modules.zip -- MLD Kernel is Odin'd as part of the Magic Tool process.
ODIN MK2 (running 4.3 ROMs) --> jflteatt-MK2-modules.zip
If I currently have MF3 bootloader, does this mean I have to upgrade to the latest android software first, and then proceed?

At this point most ROMs are 4.3 and up so yes. They'll have nicer features anyways. I'd say update to NC1 and then root and Safestrap. You could still get Safestrap on MF3, but you'd have to download older versions of ROMs and you'd get no support for them.

thanks for replying but is it save that flash 4.4.2 via odin and after flash will I receive the official update from samsung?
And one thing, after flashing to 4.4.2 I have to root the phone again or not.???
Thing is, odin 4.3 or other old firmware and then OTA to 4.4.2 , or odin 4.4.2 firmware in the first place, it's same process you have to do but with different firmware.
Yes, if you leave newly flashed firmware untouched.
You will probably have to root again.
You can also choose odin flash recovery and then flash pre-rooted ROM to have everything done in less process
Hey guys, I'm still running MK2 and an older version of the Goldeneye rom, android 4.3. I downloaded the latest version, but before I go to install it, should I update to the NB1 bootloader/baseband etc? I know I can use the MK2 deadly venom kitkat magic tool and the MLD modules, but would it be better off for performace/battery life etc if I just skip that and have the NB1 base. (or even NC1)
I just rooted a friends NB1 base last night with towlroot and installed the latest GE 38.2 rom and everything worked perfect.
What do you think I should do? Keep MK2 and flash the MLD stuff, or update to NB1 first?
If I update to NB1 id use the rootable tar
"I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Rootable_Stock_Odin_tar (This version is rootable with towelroot)
These are "All-in-One" files, extract the .tar file and flash in PDA Slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+)."
Hello,
I'm trying to help a friend who has an S4. She just wants it rooted and debloated...not sure if there is an Odin tar for that specifically, but if there is I'd appreciate a link.
This phone was a warranty replacement and came with the 4.4.2 NC1 base.
I've looked over some instructions here and I just wanted to be sure I do this correctly.
Specifically under the "NC1 ROOTED WITH SAFESTRAP" instructions it says I should Odin back to NB1, then apply a zip to get it to Stock NC1...Since this phone is already at Stock NC1 are the first 2 steps even necessary? Unless I'm missing something why could I not just go direct to Step 3 "ROOT AND INSTALL RECOVERY"?
Thanks in advance. As I said this isn't my phone and while I have decent experience from flashing my i897 (Cappy) and i717 (Note 1) I haven't played with Safestrap at all.
Regards.
EDIT: Is this what I'm looking for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52167774#post52167774 ?? Is NC1 the latest OTA release or should I be looking for a root NI1 method?
EDIT 2: Or is the easiest path here where I have her take the OTA to NI1 and proceed from there? I'm assuming NI1 is the latest firmware, so she would want that all thing being equal? Thanks again
Just root with towelroot. Go to towelroot.com and download the latest apk.
Install Custom Recovery Samsung Galaxy AT&T S4 SGH-I337 Ver 5.0.1 Non-Rooted. OK2
Hello, I Want to do some modifications to my Samsung Galaxy S4 and Have so many questions that I am not sure were to start? Yes I'm a noob but learning. I have a SGH-I337 phone that is unlocked so I use it for T-mobile. The phone came with KitKat 4.4.2 NB1 firmware but I managed to update it manually to the latest firmware OK2.
What I would like to do is install a custom recovery and install a clean non bloated Rom. Maybe a custom such as CyanogenMod? Questions: Is there any recovery software that will work on my present upgraded phone such as Safestrap, TWARP,PhilZ or CWM and in doing so I am guessing I need to root my phone first? When you root a phone does that unlock the boot loader? I have read articles saying you can only install custom recovery on the older firmware such as kitkat 4.4.2. or unless a update comes out. I also have read articles that I cannot downgrade and am not sure what that means as I have read articles that I can use Odin and reinstall my stock firmware NB1 is that true? Is there a way to downgrade your upgrades?
I see a lot of articles how to install recovery software but they do not always say what firmware version they are installing it to so I wont even try it. I am guessing-it is the older firmware 4.4.2.
I have read I can flash my kernel to an older Kernel such as NB1 then root it install a custom recovery then upgrade the kernel again? Not sure it I can upgrade or downgrade kernels that are for my phone?
I did manage to root my phone awhile back when it had kitkat 4.4.2 NB1 but had problems later on with my touch screen going crazy as if someone was in my phone so I brought it back to stock by using Odin and reinstalling NB1 firmware hoping to fix the problem. After installing stock firmware I decided to upgrade to lollipop 5.0.1 OB2 and that is were I am now. About my touch screen going crazy I have been reading it may be due to cheap USB chargers which I am using but that is another story.
Well any-help or leads would be appreciated.
Maybe if I wait long enough someone will come up with a custom ROM for my latest firmware as well as rooting it?
Steve
I was rooted, running sacs custom rom v5.6, an android 4.3 rom on mk2 baseband and firmware. It's been on these BB/FW for a long while now.
Sounds stupid as I type it out, but I want to play pokemon go. It requires 4.4.2 or newer android.
I went to sammobile and downloaded the newest stock, ok3.
I flashed it with Odin and it took, booted right up. I go to check BB and FW, still on mk2. Using the menu to try and get it to update the BB and FW doesn't do anything other than tell me I have the newest version. I can't flash this custom ROM I want unless I am on one of the newest firmwares.
Wll, I got angry and flashed stock mja. It's currently sitting on the yellow Sprint screen, it's only been about 5 minutes so far so I might give it a chance for the next few minutes... (25 minutes later I gave up and reflashed ok3)
How bad did I mess up?
Can I go back to stock mk2 and have it update itself to ok3 (or download and flash manually with Odin)?? I briefly looked but I couldn't find any ok3 modem only, and I was under the impression that I needed the full firmware to get the newest TW ROMS working anyway.
Download mode shows knox is 0x0.
What can I do to get it updated fully? I can root and flash again after updating if needed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I flashed ok3 in odin again and am now on ok3 baseband and firmware.
