My phone is getting old, and because of that some problems are emerging with age.
It turns out that whenever my phone starts to behave in an unsatisfactory way, I do a factory reset.
My question is, what is best, do a factory reset or reflash the rom? Or there isn't any difference? I'm on stock 4.4.4, without root or custom recovery (I like Android this way ) and never unlocked the device.
Would a fresh install solve occasional problems caused by the OTAs?
Sorry for the bad english.
If you haven't gotten your answer already, the best method to reset your phone to fix various issues is to factory reset your phone. This returns it to the complete default state of software, where all apps should be working. Flash a rom simply replaces the system partition with the system partition of the rom, and thus is not as complete as a factory reset.
Basically, if you're having issues with a stock rom, just factory reset it and it will get rid of most, if not all, issues.

i have a friend who did the OTA gingebread update, he didn't know any better....
I'm pretty good with rooting and I know there's no update or way to do it yet for that (GB), but if he did a factory reset does that revert back to the old OS? Or does it keep the current OS?
Thought we'd check before hand and this is the only place I could think of to come and ask.
Doing a factory reset only deletes ALL data on the phone; it keeps the current firmware, ie, he'll still be on gingerbread.
So I had been running the unnofficial 5.0.2 CM lollipop on my phone for a while when I finally decided I would do a full wipe and flash the latest version of it (1/26). Prior to the full wipe, the phone had been running fine. But since 1/26, it started depleting battery rapidly and it had tons of input lag. So... I wiped again and went back to what I previously had... only, my problems did not go away. So then I decided I would wipe and go back to CM11. Now, it is a little better, but still is having odd lag / behavioral issues.
My question is this.... I did several full wipes. This doesnt seem to be resolving my issues. I am guessing that wipes dont really get rid of strange behavior. Is there another step? I tried the "repair" option in TWRP but that didnt help much. I am using the latest TWRP. Should I odin a factory ROM then re-root everything? If so, does knox become removable, or am I stuck with it?
Hi,
I have read several threads on rooting and downgrading. I guess I just want to know if I understand the correctly.
Issue: Did OTA update and now the phone drops calls and spontaneously restarts.
Goal: Fix the problem, maybe by downgrading back to 5.02 maybe?
Research: Downgrading not an option because of the firmware has been updated with v5.1 and going back to 5.02 may brick the phone.
Questions:
1. Is downgrading still not an option?
2. What can I do to resolve some of my issues? Try factory reset? Wipe phone and start from scratch?
3. I'm trying to help a friend out, they are with AT&T. I have usually dealt with T-Mobile and SIM cards with my Nexus 5 which has served me wonderfully. What nuances with re-configuring the phone once I either downgrade(if that becomes an option) or do a factory reset will I potentially run into.
Thanks in advance!
Because of the risks, I advise to NOT Downgrade. There is a thread link in my signature that FULLY explains why.. Its is a good read, especially since I'm sure you're going to get some posts here saying "its safe to downgrade"
If you are having issues, best to factory reset and erase cache. DO NOT restore apps/data. Manually configure the phone.
NOTE: keep in mind a factory reset will wipe the phone's /sdcard contents so you'll lose pix, music, downloads, etc.
I factory reset it and it stay pops up constantly!
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?!? Im willing to try anything. Ive tried all the ones on youtube with the "solution" but it does not work.
I am also running stock too
I also have this problem. Phone is stock, no mods
Is there a way to restore the phone without the built in factory reset?
I think the recovery files built into the phone may be corrupt...
Tried a factory reset and it didn't work

Hey there! I fixed this problem by actually rooting my phone! It went away right when I rooted it. It seems that it cleared the cache.
Hello,
my LG G6 phone in the last months is getting very slow, especially when the battery is very low, under 20%.
I want to factory reset it, I have no custom rom, just stock firmare.
I tried to flash H87020h_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0110.kdz with the REFURBISH option but it does not allow me.
Is there any gain to reflash it or should I just do a hard reset?
You do not need to reflash anything. Just go into the settings and choose factory reset.
