[Q] Impossible reset after crypting - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I have a Nexus 4 rooted:
Android 4.2.2
Band: M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.48
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-g08bdc71-dirty
Build: JDQ39
I have crypted the phone in order to make it secure for a reselling and now I can not reset the phone. It is impossible to mount SD and to make any kind of update.
Is there a solution?

Install TWRP if you don't have it, select the format all option, it will recreate partitions and will be empty. (say goodbye to your data)
Then download Google N4 factory image and you're good to go.

Thank you! But, is it an opinion or are you sure?
Then, can you please explain me what have I to do? I am not really confident with this kind of things.... I have bought the phone already rooted and I know only how to boot in recovery mode and how to flash a rom.
Thank you again!

Google twrp for nexus 4.
Install fastboot drivers on your computer (google it), run fastboot while you're phone is in bootloader mode (green android lying), flash the recovery with this command : "fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img"
Then in TWRP, select wipe and select all partitions.
Then flash "occam" 4.4.4 factory image you can found it on google "nexus 4 factory image"
I can't post links because of stupid xda limitations.

Thank you for your answer.
I have installed Goomanager following guidelines but when I tap "install openrecovery script" it replies that there are no recoveries compatible for my device....
So, I am blocked here

just do a wipe data on stock recovery
or a format /data if you are on a custom recovery

You didn't follow my guidelines haha
opssemnik's solution is correct but it will be better if you install TWRP, it's almost essential if you want to manage roms and other stuff on your device.

Ok, but I have found that TWRP needs goomanager...

Status 7

I couldnt find any fix or helpful answers elsewhere on the web
Many of you are aware of the status 7 installation abort when trying to install a new rom
Ive been tinkering since last night trying to get miui 2.10.12 on my nexus 7 and every time I get a "Installation Abort (Status 7)
how do I get it to finish installation?
ive tried with multiple roms, CM10, MIUI, Kang all have same result
I have clockwork mod installed, from rom manager
I made sure I wipe data and cache and also davlik cache
any suggestions?
and i thank everyone in advance
I think you will hopefully get more joy posting in the Q&A section.
I have read that it can be fixed by fastbooting stock and then re-rooting though. If you can make backups first, you should, because this will wipe everything.

download TWRP for the Nexus 7 (grouper) Here : http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/103
Since your rooted you can use a simple app to flash the Image. Download and install the free app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790150&highlight=flash+gui
Open the free app and select the option for Recovery Image. Hit Browse and find the recovery image you downloaded and select it.Once finished hit flash image. It will ask you to confirm this image is a recovery image. Hit yes and it'll flash.
Then reboot to recovery, you can do this by using Terminal Emulator from the market issue this command
Code:
su *hit enter*
adb reboot recovery
If that doesnt work.. remove "adb" I forget if you need it or not :S
This should put you into TWRP Recovery.. go ahead and flash your ROM. Make sure you follow the proper procedure. I recommend this
1.Wipe data/Factory Reset
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3.Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Format /System
then proceed to flash the ROM and Gapps. and Reboot.

If you're going that route.. you might as well just use fastboot to reflash recovery instead of the app.
Download the same image i linked to earily. While in the bootloader issue this command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
Make sure you have the Command Prompt in the same directory as the recovery image.
So say its in your downloads folder on your computer open CMD and cd to that directory.
Code:
cd C:\Users\Name\Downloads
Or just open yoru downloads folder and Shift + Right click and select "open command window here" then issue the fastboot command.

Ill write you up a quick tutorial.
First download this zip it contains adb and its .dll's needed to be executed and fastboot.exe for flashing
http://db.tt/EOwGUAPV
Unzip it and put that TWRP image in the same folder.
Then in that folder Shift + Right click and select open command prompt here.
Then type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
This will boot you into the bootloader. Once in the bootloader do this command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
Hopefully your smart enough to realize that means type in the name of the recovery not exactly what that says.. for instance openrecovery-twrp... etc etc.
Then once its finished writing the recovery hit the volume up until the "Start" Says Recovery Mode. Then hit the power button. You should now be booting in the TWRP. Then flash your ROM.

HELP Unable to Decrypt Nexus 4 4.3 rooted

I encrypted my nexus 4 a couple of months ago, and I had no issues until I wanted to flash a custom rom. I installed a custom recovery (Clockwork Recovery), and tried to wipe the cache, find the zip file, but it said that it was unable to mount sdcard. I figured that this was due to the encryption, and tried to factory reset the phone. I was unable to do so through the recovery and through the settings app. I followed instructions from the following thread to flash a stock image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312 , which was unsuccessful. In the end, I still have all my data, and the encryption remains. Any ideas how to get rid of it?
When running encryption you have to side load everything. Try to side load the ROM you want. if that dose not work download factory image and fast boot it over.

I believe to sideload you use adb and place the zip you want in the adb's folder, plug your phone into recovery, and use the command adb sideload (zip file name) or something or the sort and you should be good to go, have you tried
fastboot erase system
data
cahc?

Applying vendor.img after updating Pure Nexus

Hello
I have Pure Nexus rom installed. I updated the Pure Nexus zip just fine. When I tried to flash the vendor .img file form TWRP ,I chose "Install", "Install Image" and then chose MMB29V_vendor.img and it then prompted me to choose which partition to flash image, Boot or recovery. I'm not sure what to choose and why. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You are on an old version of twrp. You need to update twrp to version 3.00. When you do that you will have the option to install the vendor.IMG to the vendor partition.

Wait, stop! Before flashing twrp you should create a pin 4 digit when rom is booted (settings>security). Because twrp will encrypt Upon first boot with "default_password" except you cant use that as a password or decrypt with it. So create 4 digit pin when phones booted in your rom, then use flashify to flash new twrp 3.0.0.0 or .1 (its easy), then boot into recov while useing pin to decrypt data. When you next boot into your rom you can change security to swipe or nothing. So next time you boot twrp you wont get a "can not decrypt data" message. Even when there is no encryption pass word set.
This is from experience.
Twrp latest build has changed a little how it works.
I have installed TWRP 3.1.0-0 and it is still showing select partitions screen and only available options are boot and recovery.

Root N Dev Preview 5

Can anyone here point in the right direction to guide me through DP5 root? TWRP hangs on splash screen when attempting to install. Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
TWRP can't decrypt the N system right now. So it will stay stuck on the splash screen.
The most common way around here, is to decrypt your device's storage. Once, you have decrypted, you will be able to access the recovery, and flash the latest SuperSU zip for root.

Be advised that decrypting will wipe off your complete data, including that on the internal storage. So, backup first.
The first step would be to download the modified boot image for DP5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/stock-modified-boot-img-regular-root-t3306684 (Make sure that you download the correct file).
Next, reboot your device into bootloader mode and flash the boot image using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that is done, you will need to decrypt using the following command (Do not mix "fastboot erase" command with "fastboot format"):
Code:
fastboot format userdata
Finally, reboot your device. Now, you will be able to access TWRP and flash SuperSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/969/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip
This is great but unfortunately no joy - I'm still stuck on the TWRP splash screen when trying to enter recovery, after flashing the modified boot.img - in security it still show's encrypted?

I rooted my Nexus 6P successfully with that specific boot.img and flash TWRP for many times.
1.flash specific boot.img
2.flash TWRP 3.0.0.0
3.get into TWRP-Wipe-format data and type "yes"
4.reboot to bootloader, flash TWRP 3.0.0.0 again.
5.get into TWRP and flash supersu
6.do not reboot or clean cache, get into wipe, and format data
7.reboot to bootloader, flash TWRP 3.0.2.0
7.get into TWRP and flash supersu
8.done

Make sure boot loader is unlocked. I never had the CF Auto Root screen boot loop, it does boot loop a few times when booting afterwards but that's it finishing it up.
Last night I unencrypted my phone and twrp works fully so I could flash a custom kernel. It's sad that NP5 forces encryption and you have to flash the stock kernel with encryption disabled to unencrypted. I can provide a link if you're interested in that. It provides the kernel and step by step process.
Edit: didn't realize that one guy with the Droid Origin signature had the link also, I Googled and found it but this is how I unencrypted and everything last night. http://www.droidorigin.com/decrypt-nexus-6p/ Props go out to that team.

Boot into bootloader (hold power and system on), flash the though recovery through adb, mount your .zip,, flash your .zip through recovery. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I've been drinking with the roommates, lol.
Edit: if that doesn't work, send me an IM and I will help you in the morning

The same thing happened to me also! The whole /data (incl. sdcard) partition went corrupt (showed up in TWRP as eemc instead of ext4) & the /vendor failed to mount.
First I had to repair the /data partition (unfortunately the data was lost, as it repaired to a blank partition). I ended up having to go home (was at work at the time) & hook the phone up to the PC & download the ROM & transfer it onto the sdcard. I'm not entirely sure why/how this happened, but I believe it was because a corrupt vendor IMG. Although that theory doesnt include why the /data partition corrupted, it only explains why the /vendor partition failed to mount.

I have the same issue. The problem is, that my computer will not recognize the phone in bootloader mode or in recovery mode(MTP enabled). How can install usb drivers without being able to boot into phone OS???? I've tried Nexus Toolkit with no success. Please help?

So I did the same thing. I'm sitting in TWRP right now but have nothing on the phone. Will I be able to reboot from TWRP into the bootloader and just use the flash-all command to get my phone to boot back up, then just go through the process of custom recovery again?
Basically I'm worried about leaving twrp without an OS. I didn't wipe bootloader did I? Also, I tried to download a ROM and just drag it to internal memory, but I can't seem to add anything to the internal memory.

Hi... Just boot into recovery and reflash system.img from the factory image of your choice in bootloader with fastboot. Also flash the vendor image from the same factory image. Done...
Or reflash the whole package with flash all (manually is better imho). But you'll waisted time... Let your phone reboot into Android and you'll have your internal storage back.

Yes TWRP has a reboot to bootloader option available. So you can access fastboot via bootloader to flash the necessary images. Just don't forget to re flash TWRP image again in case the stock recovery image was flashed beforehand.
The odd thing was that I did choose that option to boot to bootloader in twrp and it didn't work. I ended up having to reboot to bootloader manually. Not a big deal. All is working now, but thought that was interesting.

I accidentally wiped the OS from advanced wipe option. How do I get my phone to work again. I tried to operate adb sideload from recovery but it failed. I have downloaded the stock rom but I do not know how to install it.

Exactly which partitions did you wipe? system? data? Internal Storage (userdata)? all of the above? Hopefully you did not wipe userdata (all your stuff). Were you on a stock ROM? You should be able to d/l the Google image from the same build you were on, extract system and data and fastboot flash those. Don't flash userdata. All your stuff should be there. Follow the tutorial on how to set up fastboot and selectively flash partitions.
