To enter the bootloader: with the phone off hold volume down and press power. Use the volume rocker to scroll through the options
To enter Recovery: Once in the bootloader screen use the volume rocker to bring up the Recovery Mode option and press the power button. This gets you to the dead Andy with the red triangle. Now press volume up and you should have the stock Android recovery.
I'm guessing the bootloader is locked? :X

Once at dead Andy, I (at least) had to press power and vol up to get to stock recovery. Vol up alone did nothing.

This has been happening to me too. Vol up and Andy just lays there, red triangle in hand, laughing at me.
EDIT: Nevermind............ I was missing the point. All good now.
Weird. I'm not able to get past the dead android.
I get into the bootloader fine, can select Recovery Mode, phone reboots and I get the dead Andy with "No command".
Tried pushing vol up... nothing. Tried pushing power and vol up... nothing.
I'm just trying to wipe the cache partition... which I've done before... but can't get past the dead guy.

in the dead andy screen press vol up + power for 4 seconds. if nothing happens try again, is a little tricky.
I have found that mine seems to work better if I hold the vol up for a second BEFORE I press power. Hold vol for a second then continue to hold it while you push power and let both go. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks guys, I'm in.
Man... that's a fine line between holding the buttons long enough to get into recovery, and holding them too long so as to shut your phone off!
X_man, that trick of holding vol up first before pressing power did actually seem to make it easier.

No prob. Glad to help. I myself actually restarted a couple times by accident before I figured out you can hold the vol first. lol
You should only need to tap power while holding the volume Up button.
1. At the bootloader screen, select Recovery mode.
2. Wait for the dead Andy.
3. Press and hold volume Up.
4. Tap power and release (still pressing volume Up).
5. Recovery should show in a second or less.

Correction!

@Moondroid, I tried what you suggested many times, but to no avail. Finally I figured out that you had steps 3 and 4 in the wrong order! So for anyone that's still trying to figure this out, press and hold power button, then tap volume up button and release .

So holding the volume down button while powering on the phone does not get you into download mode? I thought that always worked.
volume down is Odin Mode. You want boot mode.
Volume Up. Home Button. and Power.
When you see the tiny blue writing in the top left corner. let go of the power. continue holding volume and home until it resets again. You'll be in Recovery Mode.
Be careful in there. Id suggest going to "Reboot Now" by pressing the power button.
That outta do the trick.
Hope it helps.

How do I do this? The phone is stuck at the boot animation and i just cannot get it to do anything else, no button combo seems to work, i casnt even get it to power down properly. Never had this much trouble with a phone before.
Hi,
Power OFF your phone then:
HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY
Method 1: Hold the power button + volume down button until the LG image appears. Once it does let go of the buttons then immediately push and hold them again until recovery boots.
NOTE: The method above will arrive at the "hard reset" area, but when choosing hard reset, it will take you to CWM (without actually resetting).

Thank You, what a fiddly process!! Now restoring from backup.
^obviously doesn't understand that you cannot power your phone down properly..
Lg is a little tricky.. But.. In order to hard power down, you must hold the power button until you see the phone power off, but don't let go or it will reboot. Keep holding the power button until you see the lg logo and it will then power down completely.
To get to recovery, hold vol down+power until you see the recovery mode loading. You will see the lg splash screen first but just keeping holding the buttons.. No need to let go and then try pressing them again as the post above me stated...

Are you sure it doesn't actually reset? I'm curious ... because Ive got TWRP and just to avoid that I always reboot into recovery from the rom ... and I've just been scared whenever I see that white screen
I can't for the life of me figure out how to boot into TWRP... I followed the how-to on the cyanogenmod wiki hoping that it would work, and I've tried googling this, but I can't figure it out. Cyanogenmod's wiki says hold the power and volume down simultaneously, then click them both when the LG screen shows, then click the power button three times. I've done this about ten times with no luck. I need to boot into twrp to install gapps as I've just flashed a rom on my G2.
Hold Power and Volume Down buttons and when LG screen shows, release them for half a second and press them again. It should show screen for factory reset. Go for it pressing Power button. It will take you to recovery...

I had the same problem and what I have to do is power the phone off, then hold the volume down button and power button at the same time, when the lg screen pops up release the volume down button while keeping the power button pressed. A splash screen will pop up and it will say entering recovery mode. It will then boot into recovery.

Power + Volume down or Volume up? I've always had to use volume up but I guess I can try volume down next time.
With the method I put it has to be volume down. I couldn't get the traditional methods to work for me.

Hi guys,
I'm facing a issue that is kinda new for me.
When I was restarting my xt1068 to Bootloader menu and then selecting recovery option, it gets stuck at bootloader warning logo. As this already happened to me so many times, I've tried to restart the phone using the lock and volume down button. BUT this time this doesn't work. Now I can't restart it and my phone is now stuck on a "forever" warning logo. What should I do to solve this?
Which firmware are you on? If you are on lollipop, the buttons have changed. If you see that "dead android" lying on his back :
on Lollipop:
Press Power and while pressing it tap Volume Up
on KitKat:
Press Volume UP for 5 sec while pressing Volume UP press Power button.
(don't release Volume UP before pressing Power)

Tried it, but still no good results
Lemme be more direct of what I've done
Rebooted into Bootloader > Tapped on Recovery > Shown Warning Bootlogo > (GETS STUCK) > Can't restart using Power and Volume up nor Down > (STILL STUCK)
Try to hold the power button for about 5 minutes. Can you reach bootloader? Maybe you can flash twrp again.

I got it. But not holding for 5 minutes.
It happens that I have no idea how it went through this bug.
But as my last stand of it, i've let my phone stucked to the bootloader until the battery dies.
Then I've pressed the power button with the phone charging and everything seems to work fine now.
The problem is fixed, but this bug god knows why
I would like to appreciate your help @Wolfcity, long live!
Cheers.
PS: Requesting a mod to close this thread, the problem was solved.
You're welcome. Great to hear that your problem is solved.?
Hi all
Phone has been a laggy mess since updating to 8.1.0 so am trying to wipe cache partition in recovery. Managed to get into it once on previous update but cannot get into it now. Have got as far as powering up with Charing cable plugged in and holding power button, volume + and home button and getting to the dead android with 'No Command'. Have tried different solutions to get to recovery from here such as:
pushing vol +
Pushing vol + and power
Pushing vol +, home and power
Nothing works. Am I missing something? Honestly this phone has been a constant let down from the word go and this is starting to get to me.
Cheers
When "No command" appear,Press Volume UP & Power simultaneously, then release Volume UP button to get into recovery menu, you should made it,its easy.

Thanks for the reply. Tried it and nothing. How long to hold them together before releasing vol up button?
Thanks
[EDIT] Got into it finally, can't have been holding the button combo long enough. Thanks @Marius.Petran
