Has anyone been able to use Sidesync with a rooted Note 4?

To Root or not to Root, that is the question

I've had my Nexus 7 a few days now and I am noticing ads all over the place. So, I am thinking about rooting my device so I can put one of the ad blockers on there.
1. Do you recommend it?
2. When Android brings new updates to their OS, does the root stay there or prevent you from upgrading in the normal way? Do you have to reroot each time they do an update?
3. Can I preserve all my data on the device as it currently is or will it get lost on my rooting escapade?
Thanks,
Jon

You might want to read this OP POST and all user Questions and answers without this thread.. All of the above and more have been asked here. This Thread was STICKIED To avoid to many of this type of thread you just created.. With that said we all sometimes post without thinking.. Please go here where your Questions are already answered..

Good Luck
Erica Renee. Questions should be in the Questions and Answers Not General..
1 - I surely recommend. For me, root is the best thing you can do in Nexus 7, mainly because 3 apps i can´t live without now:
- PPP widget (3g modem working on Nexus 7) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.draisberghof.pppwidget
- Stickmount (Any flash drive working on Nexus 7, i use it to keep all my emulators roms, and videos and it´s perfect!) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
- USB/BT Joystick Center 6 (it works with almost EVERY gamepad in the market, be it USB or wireless) and the best thing is that you can map buttons and analog sticks to use as touch controls, so it works with almost all games and emulators for android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy
2 - There´s a way to keep your root before updating, search for ROOTKEEPER, easy as walk...
3 - You can preserve all your data. JUST DO IT NOW!
Without adding toooo much to the spam on the forums I'll answer some of your questions.
Should you root? imo yes, if like me you want to use otg and be able to dim the screen enough that night time use doesn't blind you.
Do updates mess it up? yes but with the likes of Wugs toolkit it's easy to root again.
Your user data is easy to back up and easy to reload if for any reason you lose it.

Normally I wouldn't respond to redundant threads, but I don't like to see misleading information like this post left around to confuse people:

1) Rooting is an individual decision, but there is no real reason not to - outside of personal preference. Sure you could do something stupid and break your device, but 99% of the time it's easily recoverable. If you want to use some nice and very hand apps like Titanium Backup, you need root. If you want to run custom software (kernels, etc.), you might not technically need root, but you will need to do almost all the steps necessary to get there (unlock bootloader, install custom recovery, etc.), so you might as well root it to. The fact that the OS updates come quickly on a Nexus device is irrelevant. While the stock OTA updates will remove root, it won't undo the other things, which makes restoring root (especially with a "root keeper" tool) take about 10 seconds.
2) Yes, OTA updates will remove root. But, as I mentioned above, the fix process is trivial, so that alone shouldn't make any difference in your decision. Having root by itself will NOT break OTA updates. However, modifying other files on the system (framework, system apks, etc.) will. But you can always just reflash the full newer version or make backups of the modified files.
3) The first step of the "rooting" process, or the process to do anything custom, will require you to unlock your bootloader. If you have not done this yet, it WILL force wipe you tablet. No way around that. But once you unlock your bootloader the first time, you're good to go and don't need to worry about it in the future. Additionally, once that's done, using tools like TiBu and custom recovery nandroid backups make restoring your data MUCH easier then stock options.
In my opinion, rooting is a definite benefit, especially on devices like the Nexus7. I would recommend it for anyone who likes to play with their devices and maximize their capabilities. But it's up to you. There really is no downside, and it can easily be undone if you want later.
But as the other poster said OP, you need to read the existing threads/stickies in the future before asking questions that were asked and answered already.
The OP question was about whether to root his device or not, then you shot him down by saying he should have done a search and provided a link to how to root his devices. Some thread spun off to other topic but from the thread heading you will not know if you do a search.
I know that search should be done first, but not unless I can't comprehend the English language, that thread will not be the goto thread to answer that question.
I myself try to search for things I have seen before and find it hard to get back to the same thread, we are all here to learn and discover from each other and you don't need to put people down on how you answer their question, not unless they're Apple fanboy (pun intended).

I agree, while it may be a bind for the regular contributors to answer the same questions over and over people like me learn a lot from others asking questions.
I could use the search function and learn for sure, however how would I search for a question that hasn't arose for me yet? Just reading posts is the best way to learn general knowledge, if people didn't ask questions then I'm unlikely to go searching random things in stale posts.

As simple as if you want root apps like ad block, then root it.
There are no risk and you can always back to stock.
For me, a non rooted android is useless.

There are plenty of sociopaths on forums. I just ignore them.
Asking questions is what makes a community. Fresh discussion is where it is at, else we would all go to blog posts and read articles on a topic. "Hey, why don't you Google your answer?" Nutters.

Root Uninstaller?

I was trying to use root uninstaller to remove some of the bloatware, and it errors me out on every try. It just says cannot be uninstalled. It's almost as though it does not have root, but root was installed correctly and granted.
Any ideas?
Titanium backup. Maybe that app doesnt work with the s4 yet?

Why not just use Titanium Back Up? That's what everyone uses to uninstall bloatware
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4
No matter what, don't uninstall. Use Titanium Backup (or other) and freeze the apps. You'll hurt yourself if you uninstall - there's no reinstall until a stock image gets uploaded...

Root Method Found for VZW Galaxy Tab 2 (I705VRBMI1)

Please link this to all the development threads in the Galaxy Tab 2 7'' section. This is my first XDA post and it wont let me post to a developer thread X.X
Anyways, I found through some digging a root method that works on the most recent build for the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2.
The original thread where this was discussed is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885558&nocache-1
but it is no longer up to date, and the OP doesn't own the device anymore.
The current Saferoot method works and the version I used is right here. All credit to developers, I just found the link on an S4 forum.

I really hope this helps guys, and I know there are others looking for this too; so please spread the word!
hi @videogamehawk79
i know this thread is old but I just got one of these devices for free and would like to update it to at least 4.4.4, 5.x or 6.x for my daughter.
you mention you successfully rooted using the method in the 2nd link.
Were you able to successfully install any version within the first thread?
Do you happen to still have any of the required files by chance as the links in the original thread are dead.
use kingo root for windows... it works link a charm (kingoapp.com)
is there any bootloader unlock for VRBMI1 firmware? i recently got a free tab, but seems like most stuff is already outdated.
Did you ever get the boot loader unlocked, so that you could install a new rom on your tab S2?
If so I'd like to do the same!
Thanks for any reply

Nope.
Ok. Thanks for confirmation ?
I breathed some new life in mine:
I stripped away unused apps;
Uninstalled all updates to bloatware (& turned off automatic updates in play store settings to prevent them from gobbling up app space again);
added a lightweight launcher (Holo);
lightweight browser with security features I hope are still worthy (dolphin);
Disabled both battery-saving settings;
and added fresh wallpapers which spruce it up too.
It's a fair bit snappier now.
I'm open to any tips others have employed on this device to pick up it's speed for some general use.

[Q] Just upgraded software on Galaxy S5 SM-G900V to 4.4.2, and my Root is now gone.

As the title said, I was rooted perfectly fine until I did my software update to 4.4.2. I had used Towelroot, and it was incredibly simple. But now when I try, Towelroot says "This phone is not compatible."
I reset my phone to factory settings, but apparently it doesn't roll back the software updates because I am still getting the same error.
Is there currently a root available for this? Preferably a program that is simple to use?
I am inexperienced with all of this, and if there is a step by step guide as to how to safely re-root my phone I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything that is exactly like my case and a lot of the threads aren't step by step they assume that I know how to do a specific thing (such as flashing kernel etc).
I am hoping to hear from someone with a solution, and I greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me out!
Thank you!

Solved!

It is absolutely incredible, I'm so glad I found it. It walks you through flashing your kernel and reinstalling root access. Made the entire process easy to follow, and I had NO DATA LOSS!!!

[Q] Stock email apk needed, please

Greetings!
I apologize for my first post being a request, but i have long benefited from the knowledge, creativity, and insights here at xda, and I am hopeful I can come here for some help with this as well. I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. It's incredible. Only glitch is, for some reason, the stock email app (which I like very much as it is "identical" to what's on my Samsung Galaxy S5) is only version 4.1, even after all the updates, and not version 4.4.2.0400 like on my SG5. My main gripe is I really want to be able to a) use the stock email app on my tab pro; b) to swipe away emails. It's this latter point that I'm trying to remedy.
My tab pro is NOT rooted, nor do I plan to root it. I've done some sleuthing online for a while here and found information about JAR files, etc., all of which is beyond my knowledge. I am hopeful it will be as simple as someone being able to pull the stock email apk file from the SG5 and posting it up so all I need to do is install the apk file over top of what is already on my tab pro. If someone can help me with this, so my tab pro stock email version is updated to 4.4.2.0400 and I have the ability to swipe away emails, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

..
Thanks for this reply. I have indeed found those very same sites you link to (my thanks, regardless). The reason I asked was to see if there was a way to get it on here without having to root. Apparently that is impossible, then?
I may do some reading on rooting, but I'm not interested in deleting everything and starting over again. I rooted my old moto droid years ago without issue, but I've become a bit intimidated by the front end process setup on the computer to get that set. I'm sure there is a super easy 1 click root option or something. I'll do some sleuthing, again, but I welcome any help.
Still learning, and glad to be here.
Thanks!
..
Fair enough. But to clarify, I don't need to root the S5 but the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 to get this app on. Not sure if there is an "easy" root method for that that would allow me to not delete everything and start fresh again.
I'm honestly quite puzzled why this, even with the 4.4.2 update, doesn't have the same email version. And I really wish I had the S5 calendar and email widgets not a part of the magazine ux on the tab pro. I'm aware rooting can give me all this, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble, especially when I read up and see other people having collateral issues.
Thanks!

Sorry my bad, didn`t read the whole post and thought you meant the S5 . As said above you need root to install/alter system files.
