Miracast support for all devices with new update! - Fire TV General

Under settings in the display menu it is now possible to mirror any device that supports Miracast to your fire tv. It works amazingly, i was able to mirror movies and games from my nexus 5 to my Firetv without hardly any lag. Its a lot better than Chromecast.
I ran into one problem. I could not get my surface pro 3 to connect to the FireTV. It sees the fire Tv and installs a driver when trying to connect but then never connects.
Can anyone get there Microsoft Surface to mirror to their FireTV, or any other Windows laptop?
List devices that you get to connect to the fire TV and which ones wont connect.

My Galaxy Note 3, SIII and Nexus 7 (2013) all connected great. I've been looking for this feature since I got the FTV, never found an app that mirrored the screen fully, its awesome!
On a downside note I had to roll back firmware until netflix gets fixed.

Great news, now just waiting for a working pre-rooted version of the newest firmware.

Sadly it doesnt work with my LG G2

Is your FTV rooted and does it work without root? Mine is unrooted, how can I mirror my N5's display?

My FTV is unrooted and it works with my rooted S4

Yes it works without root. Go to the settings page, click on display, then on screen mirror.
On your nexus 5 go to settings, then display, cast screen, then click the 3 dots to open aditional options at the top of the screen, click enable wireless display. Now the FireTV should show up in the list.

Seems to bee buggy for me. I only was able to connect my N7 once.

Just tested this feature when I updated to the pre-rooted 51.4.0 firmware. Working great on my One+ One phone. Watching something off plex app right now with no lag at all.

I can't mirror my screen from my rooted Xperia Z1 to my unrooted fireTV. Anybody else having trouble?

I would say that in almost every way its a lot worse than chromecast.
Its laggy, its low quality in both video and audio, it requires that you remain on the app you want to stream.
It also requires that you put the FTV in receiver mode which is a pain too.
In contrast chromecast offers HD/SuperHD video with DD+ sound with 100% perfect sync (because it is not syncing at all its direct) and has no requirement for the phone to be on the same app .. or even on at all after the video has been started.
If you want laggy horrible screen mirroring then chromecast supports that as well, in exactly the same manner and quality as miracast.
...
Its nice to see some things being added to the FTV but this is not one that I will be ever using again now that I tested it once.

hanks guys, found the option in FTV and my Nexus shows it as a wireless display. If I try to connect to the FTW if asks meif I would allow the connection. Selection yes or accept (can't remember now ^^) will not bring my mirror my phones screen. The phone seems trying to connect to the FTV and cancels the connection. Then my FTV disappears from the screenmirroring list in my Nexus 5 and reappears after some seconds. But it seems to be impossible to establish a connection. Runng Nexus 5 with 4.4.4 stock Android (rooted) FTV unrooted. Restarted both devices, still no luck with screen casting.

I called the Amazon service and the first solution which they told me was to reset the fireTV. That solved this issue. Yet I can mirror my screen from my rooted Xperia Z1 and I can tell you that Miracast is only good for pictures. If you want to play high definition audio and video, use Allcast. It's much better! What I'm only missing is a mirror function in the Allcast APP.

I tried this, reset the fire TV. But still no luck with my N5 and N7. only one time i connected my N7 successfull. Maybe its a firmware fault and they can fix it.

Just a reminder... Both the FireTV & Device need to be on the same network for best results... Although not required.

I don't think so. I turned of my WiFi so the aftv and Nexus5 were both without WiFi. I could see the firetv for sharing display and the firetv shows that a device would connect. But not successful. Miracast opens his own WiFi I think. I got an netgear PTV 3000 miracast reciver and all my devices can connect fine, without being on the same WiFi.

Same here. My phone and Fire TV are in the same network (everything else would be silly) and restored my FTV to default settings. Still no luck with Miracast and my Nexus 5

It's so strange, today I have the same issue before the reset of my fireTV yesterday...
I think it's a software related problem. Both devices use the same network with 5 GHz WiFi. I will test later another situations like turning WiFi off on my Z1.

Screen mirroring not working with my TV - help

Hello,
I am trying to get screen mirroring working between my LG smart TV and s4. I am sure people will say it can't be done with non Samsung products, but check this link from YouTube. video
The problem I have is that the TV can find my S4, but the phone refuses to find the TV. Is there anything I have missed somewhere?
The TV offered to open a screen mirroring connection to the phone, but the phone never displays a dialogue and the mirroring fails.
Has anyone managed to screen mirror to a device other than Samsung? The TV fully supports dlna and miracast, but it's the miracast screen mirroring I am most interested in.
Thanks,
Andy

Yes, it does work with a LG Smart TV. I have it too. But only if you use a fully stock Rom or a Google Edition Rom like the untouched one from MakTail with it's default kernel. Also cm10.2 Roms are working great with then called Wireless Display. I love my AOSP browser on big screen

Sorry i should have said it more clearly;
When i select screen mirroring on my S4 the TV does not show as an available to device to mirror to. They are on the same wifi network.
If i scan from the TV for mirror devices then the S4 shows up. The TV attempts to set up a connection but the S4 does nothing.

Cast screen option in display settings

Hey guys I just noticed yesterday in the display options is an option called cast screen. When pressing this option it says no devices found.
My question is with this option available does this mean I can mirror my tablet to my tv? And if so will chromecast support this or do I need a miracast adaptor?
I have the first nexus 7(2012) model on 4.4.2
Thanks in advance

Cast screen works perfectly between Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 and Sony 42W650A... Sometimes, the connection fails while casting but hey, it works
It is supposed to be Miracast. If you have a receiving device that supports it, it should work.
Cast screen isnt only for Chormecast, its for all Miracast devices. I have 2013 Smart Tv from Samsung and SGS4 i9505 with CM11 and still cant get it working. I managed it only one times, and I dont know how :crying: (I had in developer options turned on Wireless display certification, and then in Cast screen option have many more options, but i dont know working combination now)
Anyone can help?

Cast not working on Vivokat 4.4.2 (Incredible S)
My Incredible S with Vivokat 4.4.2 build #4 can't see my WiFi dongle (T516 from W2Corp). This dongle works with DLNA, Airplay and Miracast. The phone can't see my computer with Airplay server running as well. If I use any application such as iMediaShare or Streambels, Airplay works as it should, both to the computer and to my dongle. I am not fully aware of what Cast ought to support. Is it only Miracast or is it both Miracast, Chromecast and Airplay. Can anyone help clear this and have any good idea on how I get Cast to see my devices?

Just an fyi for anyone looking at this thread or the OP this is now available after the chromecast update yesterday
I didn't realise this was supposed to be working with the n7 2012, bit it worked for me this evening! Anyone else?
Chromecast Mirroring support didn't work for me on my Nexus 7 2012 that I upgraded to 4.4.4 last night. It does work on my Note 3 phone however and works well.
The google support page says that it has support for the Nexus 7 2013 version though. I don't know anyone that has one though to see if that is true.
The Wireless Display/Cast Screen under Display Settings is MiraCast only. I just tried it with my Chromecast and it doesn't work. You can only mirror your screen to Chromecast by using the latest Chromecast app.
On some devices, screen mirroring is disabled in the Chromecast app, but you can use this app here to enable it

Not even close. The process is buggy, but it does work . However, using a Samsung GN 2 with Allshare on the same Samsung Smart TV worked as it should, with no picture degradation. I use it almost exclusively with online broadcast apps, so various other factors are at work, like wireless signal strength.

Screen mirroring over WIFI ?

Hello,
Just got the Nexus 6P , after years with Samsung note series... I was wondering , is there anyway in Nexus 6P to do screen mirroring over the wifi ? without any dongle?
I tried the Cast option , but it did not recognize my Sony tv which is connected to the same WIFI network, while the Samsung note had that "screen mirroring" option built in, is there anything equivalent in the Nexus?
Thanks, :good:
Roy
The cast option is designed to be used with a Chromecast. Some TVs and other video devices will register as Chromecast for some things, but not all. For example, my Vizio Smart TV shows up in the list of devices I can cast to in Netflix, but all it does is launch the Netflix app on the TV. I can't actually cast to it and control it from my phone like I can with an actual Chromecast.
Nexus devices on do Chromecast by default. If you want Miracast then you need root and to modify the build.prop file to enable it.
I can verify that if you root your Nexus 6P and add the following line to your build.prop, it will work with miracast devices. I just had it working with my screen beam pro that I bought to cast my Nvidia Shield Portable.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Actually it is built in! I just hooked up to my Samsung TV. Go to "Cast", tap the three dots, check enable wireless display (make sure the mirroring function on your TV is on). Bam! your connected.

I wonder why Google removed this and made it such that users have to root in order to activate Miracast....

I can only think of this being the reason.....
I think the main reason why it is disabled by default is because Wi-Di (as Intel likes to call it) requires "certified" hardware to allow you to mirror your screen over Wi-Fi.
Same for PCs... you need a certified Wireless Network Card to enable Windows 8-10 to mirror your screen to a Miracast Receiver.
TL;DR: Don't blame Google for this..!
Not really the excuse, LG had pretty much the exact same model as the N5 which had it on as default, so the hardware was certifiable in that case. Pretty sure other Hauewi devices are also certified. Far more likely to be Google pushing Chromecast.
Well that sucks that we have to modify build.prop to get Miracast mirroring to work. I was hoping to do the "systemless" root so I could take updates easier. I use ARU Unchained with my Pioneer NEX car stereo to mirror my phone, so I can use all the functions of the phone directly on the NEX. I have a Screen Beam. All works great with my rooted S5. I have not received my 6P yet, but I have a tracking number. Good to know in advance, I guess. Not sure if this is a show stopper for me or not, but I'm sure not happy about it.
I can confirm it works out of the box on a Samsung j series 4k smart tv. I just had to pair with the tv through the wifi direct menu.

Yes, those are your two options. And if you go Chromecast, you can't start mirroring without a data connection. That was the killer for me, I needed to be able to mirror in remote places with no data signal.
That cast is useless. How can google do that?

Nexus 6P and miracast/mirroring

Does anyone know a way for me to mirror my screen of this phone without WiFi?
The phone apparently does not support HDMI over USB-C and I need to find a way to mirror my screen via HDMI.
My car has an HDMI input to the head unit and it was just recently found to have a bypass in it so that the HDMI will work while driving. I do not want to watch videos while driving but I do want Google maps/waze to be shown on my head unit screen as the car's standard navi is terrible.
I have tried using Chromecast but the Chromecast does not work unless the car is connected to WiFi. Using my phone as a hotspot was a workaround up until an update to the Chromecast was said to cause it to crash. So this option is out.
What I would like to do ideally is buy an HDMI miracast dongle to mirror the screen as it uses WiFi direct. If I go into settings>WiFi>menu>advanced I see the WiFi direct menu but it looks incomplete.
I did some searching and saw that there was a way to edit the build.prop on the nexus 6 to allow for miracast.
Does anyone know if this is possible with the 6p and do you think it would be a viable option?
I have asked the question about the build.prop modification, but have not got any response
I can use TCL_nscreen Pro, but I would like a stock option
It is exactly the same for the Nexus 6 as it was for the 6. There are a couple of threads in here already on it, but essentially it is the build.prop modification and then after a reboot, set the allow wifi setting in the setting of the cast screen.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Chromecast can be made to work again by downgrading to the previous version and then switching off auto update.
You can cast your screen while using the hotspot feature. You have to cast using the cast button in the quick settings. I had to use a tablet to configure the chromecast the first time so it knows what wifi network to use (Which is the hotspot)
Has anyone successfully got this working? I have modified my build.prop without success. Screen mirroring to my Fire stick is essential to me.
Yes, I am using Miracast. As well as modifying the file, have you rebooted and in the cast screen gone into options and selected the wireless option?

Hey guys. I am interested in casting from 6P. I have looked into casting using Chromecast and although i have all the equipment to set up today, I am a bit concerned about the casting dropping out if I were to lose data momentarily (BIG CONCERN). As such, before I install chromecast in my car (using with appradio) only to have to rip it out later, I would like to explore miracast. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced miracast device I can purchase (say from amazon or wherever) to cast my 6P? I understand its easier to set up and does not require data to mirror.
Thanks

You need a second phone in order to use Chromecast unless you use an older version that lets you trick it into streaming from the same phone that is the WiFI hotspot. Google didn't not include Miracast by default so you need to enable it in the build.prop file. The Microsoft Miracast dongle works fine for me and has been rated pretty well. Regardless, you don't need a data connection for either if you are not streaming something from the internet, so I don't know what you're expecting to be different between the two options.

Wait. I thought that was the main reason why people are opting for using miracast devices and not chromecast. I have the original chromecast (not the newer ones). But I was under the impression that if you lose your data connection (from carrier), your wifi hotspot goes down, and your phone is no longer connected to the chromecast. I am fine not being able to stream content from the internet, as long as my phone is still mirroring to chromecast and is visible on what I have connected chromecast to. I have tons of content on my device that I can cast, I just need to be able to mirror if my data connection on the 6P goes out. Please confirm because this changes everything. Sounds like if I have the original chromecast there is not much difference between it an miracast devices.

I am talking about the Chromecast application that needs to be an old version, not the device. Otherwise, you need a second phone. I don't know if the mobile hotspot dies when you lose 4G even if you aren't using Internet directly, sorry. I didn't think it would, but I've never had the experience to be able to answer affirmatively. Miracast would be your choice if that is what happens, but again you need to edit the build.prop for the Nexus 6P to make it work with Miracast. Dimming the screen is also going to be an issue (the device is AMOLED so screen off programs will not work) in order to maintain a charge, so you should look into that before purchase as well.
