Still FREE Today 10/31 - Amazon Plex ($5) App ++++ More - Fire TV General

Hi folks..
Plex $5 app is free today at Amazon along with a bunch of other games & apps (Not all FireTV compatible).
http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=nav_sap_mas_14_10_30_Oct_Bundle?ie=UTF8&node=10221878011 :good:
All 40 Amazon apps should still be free today until midnight PST if I am not mistaken...

Plex app on the FTV is worth less than 0.

Where I don't fault anybody for spreading info, i have to agree somewhat on the plex info. From what I've seen, not sure what benefit that has for anybody that uses xda. BTW, what the heck is all that Plexpass stuff? Why do you need a subscription?

I sideloaded the most recent version of the app. Then, purchased(when it was free prior to this offer) the app on amazon's site, where I selected cloud only. From there, the most recent version of the plex app was on the FTV's homescreen.

You mean sideloaded PlayStore latest Plex app... Added the Free Amazon Plex app to your Amazon account. Now you have a shortcut to the PlayStore's Plex app on your homescreen. Any problems with controls (FireTV control) on the PlayStore version of the Plex App ??

Some games aren't working offline.

I feel like there should be a simple solution to this but I don't know. I found today, in the car, then when I tried to play Angry Birds Seasons and Illusia that I was getting a network error. I've got Illusia on my phone and it works fine when I don't even have 3G signal. I searched and didn't find an answer to this.
Did you get these apps from amazon app market? I had that problem with one app because it was from amazon (sorry for my english)

LOL.. Perfect English.. BTW
Try to avoid the Amazon App store. The Amazon DRM checks every time you start the app to make sure you are allowed to use it. No network = no application.
Not ALL apps from Amazon, but ANY app from amazon.... I guess it's up to the developer to choose to include the Amazon DRM... But there is no way to know if an app has this until you paid for / downloaded it and find out it does not work.
I dont care if it's cheaper.. Amazon is not an option for me.
I got them from the Android Market.

No market access

is it true this can't access the general android market?
i trust xda will be able to add the normal market to it

The Amazon Appstore developers pay no fee for the first year, and have no restrictions regarding their locations (as the Android Market imposes). So, I can easily imagine that many people will want to have their apps listed there. I guess you can check today, how many apps are there that you can find on the Android Market but are not on the Amazon Appstore. Actually, I know of several examples of the opposite.
I know quite a few apps I use regularly that are not available in Amazon Appstore, Dolphin HD comes to mind immediately.

Yeah, that's the downside to having such a customized version of the OS - it's not receiving official Google certification.
The Amazon app store is growing, and if the Kindle Fire sells well enough, which it should, more developers will be inclined to submit their apps.
I just hope amazon improves the app store experience, it's still miles behind Googe's, which isn't so great itself.
I recall reading something a while back that if one uninstalls the Amazon Apps Store from your device, the apps you downloaded from Amazon Apps Store cease to function until you reinstall the Amazon App Store applet.
Urban legend? Sounds a bit hinky but disturbing if true.
I use the amazon app store on my HTC desire.
I'll uninstall and let you know tomorrow what happens with all the apps from Amazon APp Store.
But regardless, I would still keep the Amazon App Store because it gives you one free app every day.

Completely true. I discovered it by accident when I deleted the App Store app, then tried to play my 'free app of the day' copy of Angry Birds Rio a few days later. No dice! Worked fine again once I reinstalled Amazon App Store, however.
Can also confirm: any amazon app store apps must have the amazon app store present on the device to work. Kind of a pain in the butt to be honest but hey, it's their store they can impose those restrictions.
When submitting app to Amazon Appstore you can choose to use DRM they provide - that might be the reason for this requirement. Apps that don't use DRM will probably work without the Amazon Appstore on device. (but I might be wrong)

Google Play vs Amazon Appstore
Thank you for the information, we will pass it on to our Kindle customers.
It would be an interesting A>B to see how Amazon App Store competes with Google Play. Is Amazon trying to be a little more competitive?
This would be nice since Amazon truly has a great product.

This deal was supposed to go till the 31st. I just checked and the apps are back up to full price. However Let's Break Stuff (game) is free today.

Plex app

I purchased the plex app about a year ago to use in my tablet, it appears the version available requires plex pass. Does anyone know for sure?

Yes Plex on the Nexus Player is currently in development so it requires plex pass.
At some point in the future it will be released for use without plex pass requirement.

Thanks for the heads up!
The only issue RIGHT Now is that the app freezes constantly while streaming a video, it's crazy.
I use the app and don't subscribe to Plex Pass. I had the old Plex for Android sideloaded on the NP and when they unified the app, it auto-updated and it works fine.
I'm not sure how one could go about reproducing this, try sideloading an old apk and see if it updates?

True, and with zero acknowledgement from Plex

Hi, removing other amazon apps helped, i finally got underground store working.
Before I had Prime Video Launcher with Amazon VOD running. If I now try to install the Prime Video Launcher including Amazon VOD, I get an error for Amazon VOD.
Is it not possible to run both?
Thanks

From what I've tested... No. Is there a reason why you need the app store?

Some games are free and cost you money on Google.
E.g. Beach Buggy Blitz. Free on both but the Amazon version is fully loaded with split screen 2-4 players and all levels.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic $9.99 on Goolge Play. $0 on AU.
Riptide GP2. Google $2.99. Amazon $0.
Don't get me wrong I love Google and dislike the Amazon Ecosystem but...
How do you run Amazon instant video I can't get it too show all content and it tells me to install something but fails so I click later to bring me to menu of the instant video

It is, you can have a look here.
Otherwise, on my side using the StockRestyle ROM, I managed to have both using the version 2.0.45.1210 of Instant Video. Important: I installed both of them first, and only then launched them one after the other.
The links were removed?
Why does amazon get to remove links from this forum? Can you link to a forum that doesn't have such stupid restrictions? All it was trying to do was help amazons services run better on this device. I guess that it would be in there interest for it not to work because then maybe you would buy one of their tablets instead... but to let them remove links? Seems really bad.
