I have not seen or heard what the micro usb will be used for on the NP....
The ADT-1 has a USB port and all it can be used for is a keyboard/mouse currently. I'd kill for OTG support. That said though, the ADT-1 also comes with a splitter for the power that adds an additional USB port to connect to your computer to access it via the SDK. So, it could be very much the same setup, or something completely different.
Interesting... You would think they would list the use for it.. maybe these OTG cables i have will come in handy..
It's been said that usb to ethernet adapters will work.

You can connect an OTG cable to it. I connected a USB 3.0 HUB + Ethernet adapter to the OTG cable and connected my keyboard & mouse to the hub and a 64 GB micro SD card for extra storage. I also used the the ethernet port so now I don't need to connect through WiFi

I'm using a Ugreen OTG cable. I bought the 2 pack. The usb 3.0 hub is from Inateck. Links are below.

there is a MHL adapter that gives you a male 11 pin micro USB to female HDMI so you can just plug a standard male to male HDMI cable from adapter to TV.
see:
Samsung Galaxy S III MHL to HDMI adapter
Does anyone know if this new adapter will work with the Galaxy Nexus, as well? Also, does it charge the phone--or at least keep it from being drained--when USB OTG is being used? I've been looking for a way to use USB OTG with a flash drive on my GN while also charging/powering the phone. USB OTG is a real power hog.
It should, but on mine it doesn't.
I've got a new MHL cable and a USB OTG cable in the hope I could plug my MHL into the SGS3, use a powered USB hub connected to the Micro USB on the MHL and then connect a keyboard and mouse into the USB hub, then connect the HDMI to the TV.
For me it doesn't work. I thought this was the whole reason they changed the MHL cable to the new type. Can anyone else confirm?
Logicalstep
can we get an update on this situation here? How
can we get MHL AND USB OTG?
My reading of the link is that the micro USB port has been repinned to provide USB on the go and not that the cable allows for this.On the mhl cable there is a female HDMI port and a micro USB ( both female) which must be used by the charger.
If the usb connection is also female type, we have to use a usb otg cable to get it work. But at the moment my phone also wont recognize any devices -.-' only mhl and nothing else.
I bought this adapter for 25 euros and want to have it working.
I also asked samsung on facebook 'bout this problem, and everything the told me:
Go support site...
very helpful.
I hope the will enable this feature in a future update.

I have my NP coming next week! Now I need to know what I should order to go with it. Should I get a USB hub for it? Can I use the Logitech k400 if I wanted? Can I plug a 1TB HDD in somehow to play my movies? My computer recently died so my plex server is down :/
I'd like to change ROMs on the device too.. So please advise. Thank you!

Get an adapter cable from micro USB to USB female. Then get a powered USB hub - the passive ones probably won't be able to drive your HDD.
With Kodi, you won't need the PC-based server!
Lots of choices for a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. I use my Logitech diNovo Mini.
I would recommend the Inateck HB4003 Gigabit Ethernet & 3 Port USB 3.0 Hub. It has the micro usb adapter built into it as well as an ethernet port & a hub. If you want to use your TV remote instead of the nexus player, I would recommend getting a FLIRC usb adapter as well.
Thanks for the ideas! I'm really pumped lol.. Kodi sounds like a perfect fit for me. Are there any restrictions on hard drive size that can be connected?

One thing I noticed with the HB4003 it looks like a regular USB end not a micro and the cable doesn't detach. Where you saying get that and the micro USB to USB female adapter? Thanks!

My mistake, you are right. Its has been so long ago since I put together my setup. I forgot that I also have a HooToo (HT-CT01) Micro USB OTG + 4 port charging hub as part of my setup (used to charge my cell phone, tablet, & game controllers). You will need a micro usb OTG cable if you go with the HB4003.
Regardless of which OTG cable you go with, make sure that it is a straight cable for OTG. If the otg device is a right/left angle cable or a short adapter, it won't work because of how scrunched the cables are.

I've been thinking about this, and in this case it's better to get a powered usb hub, and plug a usb-ethernet adapter into that hub.

For me, it hasn't been an issue that the HB4003 is not powered. Then again, all I have connected is a FLIRC adapter, mini usb receiver for my Lenovo N9502 keyboard/mouse, & a thumb drive.

I chose the adapter to reduce clutter & reduce my millions of wire behind my TV. The way I see it, having one less USB connected device is one less thing to diagnose (I am always flashing roms & plugging & unplugging devices to the USB hub.
Hmm is this a viable option?

Yeah, but now having a ssd to increase userdata space is a valid method, it changes a limitation of the NP. For me personally I'll just hide away the clutter.

This is what I have. Click here for my review on XDA. However, there is only 1 USB port that is connected to the OTG. The remaining 4 ports are for charging purposes only. If you need more than 1 USB port fort OTG purposes & possibly an ethernet port, I would get the HooToo and the Inateck.
The way mine is wired is:
Nexus player ---> Micro USB Cable (provided) ---> USB extension cable (OTG cable is short and wanted to hide the hub) ---> HooToo Hub (back HooToo USB OTG port) ---> Inateck Hub (Front of HooToo Hub)

Hehe...that's your setup? How is that reducing clutter?
If anything, removing the HooToo hub is reducing clutter, unless you need more than the OTG ports on the Inateck hub.
So micro to USB female > inateck hub with Ethernet is probably the best choice then.. I just wish I know it'd push a 1TB HDD and a Logitech K400.. Thats all I'd hook up to it.

Most probably not as the 1TB hdd will require a powered usb hub.
Unless it's one of those that has it's own power source.

There is a method to my madness! It makes more sense when you see my setup.
My setup:
1x Harmony Smart Hub (USB Powered)
1x Winegard LNA-200 Boost XT Digital HDTV Preamplifier (USB Powered)
2x Micro USB Cables (Charging Tablet & Phone)
The Hootoo hub allows me to charge/power all 4 devices using 1 power brick instead of 4 individual power bricks. Having a functioning OTG was icing on the cake.

Yes, that sounds right (make sure it says OTG). Is your 1TB HDD self-powered or is it powered through the USB port? If it is self-powered, it should work. I just plugged up my spare 1TB Fantom Self-Powered (power brick) HDD to see if it works and it seems to be okay. If it is not self-powered, it may be ymmv.
I have two HDDs actually. Both 1TB but one was in my desktop and I'd just order a powered enclosure for and the other is a western digital mobile drive without power.
So I'm pretty sure I'll go micro otg > inateck> powered HDD and Logitech K400.. That's really all I can see I'd use really. My TV is on the other side of the room. So not like I'll be walking over there much.
I'm stoked!

Why not plug the hdd into your router? It'll be accessible everywhere, easier to add/delete files on it.
My router is an older N 300 Cisco.. Sadly I've got no USB support for something like that atm. I'm looking into a router upgrade though. But the one I have has worked well for about 2 years now.

Certainly something to consider.
But seriously, if all you're going to put on that hdd is media, plugging it into your PC and sharing it works the same as plugging it into a router (only bad point is that your PC needs to be switched on for the hdd to be accessible). If you're going to be plugging/unplugging your hdd from your Nexus Player just to add files, it gets old pretty fast.
I bought a type-c adapter for my Z1 to use OTG cable and Usb key. The key does not power on. I tried the adapter to charge the phone with a regular usb cable and it works.
Is this problem related to COS or is OTG function not supported on the Z1? Or is there a way to enable it?

I don't know if that has changed but for cm you have to use an app like StickMount to be able to mout the USB stick.
Ok thanks, I guess I have to root then.
I used only es file Explorer and it worked for me. I testet Ext hdd, mous, keyboard and controller
Same, no root required, just an usb C OTG and a file explorer. Be aware that the OTG or the device could be uncompatible...

What speed did you get to ?
Lenovo Zuk Z1
I tried Xiaomi USB typeC adapter with a SanDisk micro USB memory and it doesn't work
I have the same problem. At my oneplus 2 with adapter working normal but at Z1 not working.
No solution about that ? I got 2 adapters now (noname and Victsing) but still no otg, and usb storage options are unavailable !
Does it support in twrp recovery.. i mean does otg recognising in twrp...???
Strange, it should work out of the box on COS 12.1...just received my second Zuk1 and hooked up the Z1 to my car to read out the ECU, it worked without an hitch! Did not try a USB stick though...
I have 2 cables, one is with the micro USB for which I use a micro USB to type C USB adapter, the second USB OTG cable already has already the Type C connector and connects straight up.
I never used my "charging cable" as the idea is to plug your USB stick straight onto the OTG interface cable.
i have rooted/unlocked zuk z1.
tried every possible stuff (es file explorer, stick mount, usb troubleshooting etc), tried changing the otg cable, tried changing pendrives, nothing helps.
can anyone please help me?
xda is my only hope
I change my phone to xperia x compact recently, I find the type-c USB is easy to use.
I have a otg usb drive with micro usb, which is working on samsung s7, dell tablet. I wonder if it can be used on XC.
Thanks
Not sure about your micro USB OTG drive, but I purchased a separate OTG type-C adapter which connects to my USB card reader just fine.
I tried to use a type-c to micro USB adapter, it doesn't work. Maybe I have to buy a type-c otg adapt first.

Even this doesn't work for me. My phone seems not being able to act as USB host and not recognising anything plugged in the type-c port. My phone is rooted, not sure if it's the cause.
I use the sony type-c dual flash drive and it works flawlessly
Still not working. I used a voltage reader and found that there is no voltage coming out of the USB port, no wonder it won't detect anything. No sure if my phone is faulty (doubt it, as the port works perfectly when it is USB client) or due to setting/rom/kernel...

Thanks! Finally i got it to work. Sorry that I had been trying type-c usb reader instead of a true type-c otg adaptor + reader... so, it fact it would work with a type-c otg adaptor.
