[CLOSED/Q] Sound from in built speaker

Somebody PLEASE tell me the audio from these two new devices is better than its predecessor?
Sure you don't really listen to music on the phone but when catching up on the latest news and watching streaming video it's nice not to have to use the headphones.
One of the biggest let down's for me with the Desire is the diabolical sound quality, so I wonder if this has been improved with the Desire Z (and HD but I am more interested in the Z).
Anyone had a hands on and can confirm / deny?
Offtopic : but i can watch videos & listen to music just fine with my desire's speakers :O
Or maybe it's just me? hmm.
Here's a little hands on review that quotes of the sound of the speaker. Though I dont know if it means anything.
"The speaker sounds loud and clear, although not that distinctive in the hubbub of a busy room... but then again, when are you going to use it in that environment, unless you want to be glared at on a train? That's right, glared.

The D'HD has dolby sound which should be Ace (Pun intended) :d

I can only assume you haven't heard the sound from a Nokia 5800? It's my current phone and I've been seriously spoiled by this aspect of it :-/

This is my concern, loud does not necessarily mean good quality - although many reviewers seem to disagree.

I would be surprised (pleasantly so). Do you have a link to this please?
Agree with xspyda the sound from the Nokia 5800 is among the best I heard from any phone (loud, rich & clear) & miles better than any of the HTCs I've experienced.

What is the main genre of music you listen to through "Beats"?

Hi All,
Just curious as to what music is best suited to the Beats functionality.
Do you need the Beats headphones to get good general listening?
Or is it just for the Dre-ish types of music?
I've tested it on my setup: good pair of Audio Technica closed headphones, some top-produced prog rock albums and pop albums (using RCMix 3D Runny).
So.. what music do you listen to?
Cheers,
Dan.

+1 here,
also another note am using Sure SE115's
Beats is OK but SRS so much better for sound,
but what tops them both is CM7 and DSP, talk about sound repoduction and tailored just how you want it, have been a cm7 convert just because of this
Listen to R&B
But I prefer SRS through ear phones, better sound IMO.

I'm wondering whether it's only good through Beats headphones!
If so, Dre will be making a fair dollar!
IMHO DSP is far better than anything else. Beats is the lowest of the crappiest out there. The only thing that Beats audio processing sounds remotely good with is beats headphones.
I don't have beats... DSP manager + PowerAmp, even $20-ish headphones would sound like a $100 headphone with those two on
I listen to metal primarily, so I'm not in need of heavy bass.
I knew it... Beats only an EQ curve?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18412181&postcount=6241
Anything but country haha
I use PowerAMP and i listen to : Hardstyle, Hard Trance, Dark Electro , Industrial, Hard Techno ( known as a Shranz ) Happy Hardcore's and softer version of above.
And some Rock/Metal/Punk
DSP is the way to go
I listen to house, electronic house, dubstep
And I find that with earphones in SRS is that way to go and using speaker phone, beats. (runny3.0)
rock and metal
Some dubstep and rock, little bit of house
To be honest I like it. It may just be an eq curve on the Dhd but what did you expect, its not like its gonna change the hardware is it. dunno about anyone else experience but for me its much better than srs or dolby with stock headphones.
PS anyone saying its just an eq curve, its been proven not to be on beats enabled phones by Engadget.they've tested it with no beats on and with beats enabled with both regular headphones and beats headphones and that there I'd most certainly a difference, maybe not enough to justify the pr drive that HTC are doing, but its certainly more than just any old equalizer settings
How do you set DSp settings? As in what setting should i use lol I use poweramp

wolfson chip or not, the s4 sgs3 has great sound quality

I know there is a big question as to whether the American gs3 has the wolfson audio chip. I can tell you right away that using poweramp with the rock preset produces some of the best audio I have heard out of any media player. Just so you understand my level of audio history I currently own Shure e500 pth, Phonak audeo pfe 232, klipsch x10, velodyne vpulse, ultimate ears super fi .5 eb, klipsch s4, shure se535, klipsch image one, audio technica m800. I have owned cowon d3, j3, ipod touch ipod classic, toshiba gigabeat s60. I am just giving you guys a heads up that it also is powerful enough to drive all the headphones (except for th Audio technica) without an amp. Hopefully this post helps a music fanatic like myself.

That's good to hear. My exynos version is very soft driving my Akg monitors directly.
Yes it sounds great except the noise floor is high. A lot of noise on quiet music. Great dynamic range though.

Yeah, it's almost obscenely noisy. With rock music I'm not sure I'd ever notice, but anything with quiet parts drives me batty. Hopefully it is an internal amp setting that can be tweaked in software (my volume level is often at 2 or 3 so trading volume for reduced noise is an easy choice).
Even the speaker is nice and crisp! Also the APT-X on this phone and my Bluetooth dongle...is great!
I do like the audio output, it sounds great in my car. I didn't realize how bad my SGS2 was until I tried this! I'm actually NOT disappointed by the earbuds Sammy bundled with the phone! They deliver a surprisingly punchy bass. They are a warmer tone I think, so they don't sound as crisp as they could. I just don't feel like the music is *right there*, it's like it's behind a small film or wall. It's close, just not going directly into my ear. It's like it's going through a filter. Anyway. Good quality output in my opinion, as least much better than it could have been.
With poweramp and my IEM's (Earsonic SM-3) I don't notice any background noise at all. This is the best portable digital player I've had, and I can't wait to get a 64gb card for it. Definitely beats spending $200 on 64gb of permanent storage from apple.

I agree the included headphones aren't bad at all. I installed awesome beats app on mine via the diet ics rom and the music sounds wonderful!
I used my Sennheiser HD280s with and without my Fiio E5 amp and it sounded relatively the same. But for some reason, it sounded somewhat empty, lacking body... Almost translating what I noticed with the earbuds to the headphones. Maybe the DAC really isn't that good.

See I'm the opposite. I noticed more background noise (mostly during quiet parts of songs) with poweramp than the stock player, but the eq and interface in poweramp is just so much better that I can't leave it.

You're making me want to pull down Samsung's kernel source to see if I can identify what is bound to be an initialization problem...
Actually, just tried the phone on a less-sensitive set of earbuds, and the noise is much less noticeable. I'll have to give the in-box earbuds a try for comparison.
My iem's are relatively efficient and with aiff files the sound is fantastic. I'm using poweramp with eq off. Clarity, resolution, inner detail and fidelity in spades.this is going to make me buy a 64gb card. Or four.

poweramp with DVC (direct volume control) enabled gives distortion, especially with the tone adjustments such as the bass control, so far the best sound i have heard is the stock player with the rock setting or custom with the rock settings and bass turned up a bit, i hope poweramp devs resolve the distortion as i really don't think the problem is the phone itself, and for what its worth i am very picky with my music and have tested the settings with high end audio technica headphones and my competition subs in my car.

turning off DVC did help some
sure turning dvc off helps but at that point using the stock player produces better sound so as of now poweramp is a no go for me.
Could be lounder
The sound quality is great, was pleasantly surprised with the included earbuds and fit kit. Big improvement from the S-II.
One gripe is the volume. While louder than the S-II it is still a little quieter than I refer. Anyone know how to boost the volume?
I still slightly prefer the GS1 with voodoo sound, but this phone does better than I was expecting and absolutely rapes the GS2 on audio quality. Great for what I use it for.

Earphone sound output/quality discussion

So there's a lot of discussion going around about the device, minus the sound output. Can the users (if there are any audiophiles out there) please share your reviews about the music quality output from the device. This is purely with earphones plugged in and not the boomsound speakers. How is the bass, treble, mids, highs, etc. How is the earphones quality that is provided with the m8.
The z2 seems to be getting mixed reviews, hence i am eager to know about the m8. I know gsmarena has posted a review but i wanted more inputs from actual users. Will appreciate any inputs.Thanks.
The M8 reviews all say good things about the headphone output. Personally I think it's fantastic, highs, lows and mids are all very clear and well balanced. The M8 drives a lot higher voltage output compared to the M7 too, I read someone who measured it.

I can confirm that the output quality is amazing. Partly due to there being a 2.5v amplifier next to the headphone jack, is this correct regarding the amplifier?
i don't miss beats much as the m8 has sound just like it and due to hardware not an equalizer
Yea the m8 has an amplifier for both headphone jack and loud speakers

I, too, can confirm that the sound output quality on headphones and speaker are phenomenal on this device - even without any sound mods flashed.
Tested the HTC in ear buds and as well as a sennheiser headset and a pair of pro Beyerdynamic headphones. All sounded absolutely clear and nice, even on Google Play Music All Access streaming.
So far, I am VERY pleased with audio quality on this baby.
i purchased and use regularly a set of jaybirds bluebuds (wirless stereo ear bud type headset) when at work. i havent used these since getting my htc m8 (used them with my htc one x) only just paired them. reading this thread i decided to try the included wired headset that are usually rubbish. long story short, they are incredible. i can honestly say that they sound like im in my lounge room listening to my harmon kardon amp and denon dvd player with the bass of my 15 inch sub. they sound that good. just a shame about the wire.
wow so many good reviews... htc seemed to have nailed the sound department with this phone...
Perfect speakers, useing earphones is very good the loudest output I've heard.

Does anyone have a slight hissing sound when playing music on low I can hear it. Or after music is done playing its there.
Also, if I'm playing music and I turn the volume off I can hear hissing through the loud speakers
I have a small dead pixel, and I didn't want to return it just for that.

I use a Pair of Logitech ue900 (399bucks on Logitech), with Quad Drivers (and those are pretty sensible on bad outputs, or too high output impedance).
I hear absolutely nothing which lets me wich for a better quality. You will probably have to buy in-ears/headphones for around 700-1500 bucks so you might complain.
I read on head-fi.org, that viper4android is just an Equalizer which mostly raises the amount of bass (NOT the quality of bass), and most people think "more bass = better soundquality". So tonality gets changed. A bit like when you activate "Boomsound" on the settings with headphones plugged in. This raises bass, treble, and the volume level, and in direct comparison (mostly with bad/cheap headphones) it might sound better.
But its not, the soundquality gets worse with that.
I personally use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39672554
But i cant tell you, if it really improves the audio quality. I only tried a half song with my ue 900, and i didnt really heared a difference. Maybe because the difference is too small, or that you HAVE to have a 2nd device to compare both at the same time, to hear any difference.
i also didnt heared any hiss or any distortions.
But i think.... Alot people are not turning "BoomSound" OFF, so the Treble is way too much, and this can be that hiss, people are complaining about.

+1 its similar to the beats on the one x... it just increases the loudness... of course the bass itself is not that bad but are you saying that boomsound is amplifying the sound similar to beats??
I only had "Beats Audio" via Mod on my desire HD like almost 2 years ago. So i cannot give you an exact comparison. But yes, it should be pretty similar.
At least, on my headphones (Beyerdynamic T90 / UE 900) with boomsound activated, it was un-listenable, because of TOO heavy treble (due to boomsound). Without the treble changes on that setting, it might even be nice, to make the sound on neutral headphoens more fun when needed.
I haven't tried the earphones that come with the device ('cause I already had a pair I use and I've never used a pair of packed-in earphones in the past), but the audio quality through my Sony earphones are fantastic. I switched BoomSound on and off and it does make it noticeably better if you're comparing them "side-by-side" like that, and despite what others say, I didn't notice it raising bass all that much. It felt like the audio got a bit less tinny and...hollow, and sounded like it was more surrounding my head, instead of sounding like it was coming from the sides and slightly farther away. A very...untechnical explanation, but that's the way I heard it.
Some extra tinkering in PowerAmp and having moved from an iPhone 5 to this baby, the pure giddy bliss I dive into every time I listen to music with this device is unimaginable.
Earphone sound quality-wise, you can't get much better than this.
