Hi guys I am having trouble updating the firmware, it gets to around 25-27% and the little green robot falls over. my phone used to be rooted but I unrooted it and checked with root checker and it says unrooted. I brought my phone off amazon and it is unlocked. here are further details https://imgur.com/YpQh6dv (it is the same image as the attachment).

Well anyhow if you do an OTA update, you will have to reset as it causes a lot many battery drain and optimization issues with random force closes.
And yes it is safe.
NON ROOT BACKUP METHODS
If you want to backup everything..there are many apps to do that..even whatsapp texts.
Whatsapp backup is nothing..just do a backup from the whatsapp messenger..
then go to myfiles->sdcard->whatsapp->databases. The backup gets stored there. Copy that folder in you extsdcard.
And rest there are many apps on the play store to backup text messages and contacts. Example easy backup.
For contacts press the option button->import/export->export to sd card and it will make contacts_x.vcf backup there.
For images in the internal memory, download quick picture backup by linever corp. And in the extsdcard you shall see a folder named linever and it will have all your photos that were in the internal memory.
Rest what? Game data? Download helium from the playstore and it backups all the game data.
Game Apk? Download Apk extract and save them all to sd card.
And? If I may know any specific?
And if youre already rooted..forget all this..TITANIUM BACKUP.
And it is not necessary that you choose the UK rom. You can flash any, except the ones which have a carrier written nect to them.
Example : Download Brazil instead of Brazil(Xyz)

BTU is the area!
It is the product code.
My CSC is Turkey as of now. On a russian firmware. And I live in India.
You can flash. Because not all areas make optimized firmwares. And a firmware and kernel runs the phone.
If you get any receptivity errors (highly unlikely) , you can flash any modem of your area.
Dont be scared. Just flash.

1.flash the kernel from secure to insecure through ODIN
2.root the OS with S2Root_1.5.1
3.reflashed with original kernel to remove yellow icon while booting(optional)
Referred the instructions in this post for previous steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
4.Install Spooffw from market( it requires root access.the reason why we root before doing this)
5.Open Spooffw app and select Nordic region preset ,follow the steps in that app (which change the phones internal files to make it look like its from Nordic countries)
6.Connect to PC ->Open KIES found that it shows 2.3.5 XXKI4 update is available .
7.upgrade the firmware.
But i lost the root access . Gotta root again (follow first three steps) if i need root access again
Why not flash 2.3.5 using Odin? Alot less steps and twice as quick.

Thanks for mentioning that app. I'll follow that method next time I wanna upgrade.
PS- Changing the region won't delete my data, right?
No, Kies does not wipe data.
Can anyone else confirm?

Note that, You will have to do the same when Official Indina version gets released !!!
Steps you did will update your model id ... which makes is diificult to get official version from Kies ... So in order to restore that footprint you will have to again update your Model ID with SpoofFW...
I tried this a lot with My Galaxy S....
I would simply prefer ODIN method ... and You can easily detect if ROM you are about to flash will Wipe or Not. ...
1) Single File , No Wipe
2) 3 Files , Full Wipe.

You should not do that ... Dont know , What will two files do !!!
But When you flash new ROM, theses two points can detect Wiping... ROM Will never have two files ... !
Flashing two files might work or might not work ! ... Normally PDA holds Wipe details ... if i am wrong.

Why? Titanium backup Rox.
Dude, whats the point in updating to XXKI4 via kies? , ITs still an european firmware. also its already available here in our forums, you can simply flash it via mobile odin.
I guess it makes sense in one way: for someone who wants the latest "Indian" firmware via Kies but can't get it because he/she flashed a firmware via ODIN before.
Of course, this is assuming folks in India will actually get an updated firmware soon :-D
Basically the SpoofFW app enables Kies to recognize your firmware as something that is upgradeable. Not particularly useful for most of us on XDA, but great if someone wants to stop screwing around with flashing firmwares and go back to Kies-enabled stock.
the app using an spoofing is easy an i had done it for sgs1 but had to reverse it wen official fw arrieved...an odin dint wipe my data (untick the partition)but some fw did wipe my data....i say odin is good an fast..dont exp wiv sgs2...but u got a no of custum roms to flash....cheeerz

If you did the trick with imei in dialer and you dont have the DBT as an option, you must download an open europe full rom,eg xxlc1 and flash it with pc odin

Hi,
An additional question, if one does this swap, besides completely wiping your phone (isn't it?), does Kies recognize it or does Kies consider this as a "custom" rom?
In other words does my phone become a "real" Open Europe GNote?
Thanks (from a confused newbie on Android )

Now, I dont know what the Kernel is used for.. but do I need to get that also? After I have the 1.6 GB sized Stock Firmware (aka ROM right?), I can start installing?
I'm downloading I9505XXUBMF8 (first one on the list, most recent one) than from the Official Rom Collection (Thread).
I've got myself Odin also (File name: AndroidJinn.Com.Odin307, Size: 1,15 MB) like you said. (Please confirm if its the right one)
If it's not to much asked, could you write within a few sentences, the steps on how to get trough the installation and what I need to do before starting, like: do I need to backup anything or does my phone have to be USB plugged to my pc the whole time etc.?

Can someone tell me why again XXUBMF8 is better than XXUBMEA?
I mean what are the differences compared to one another,
the only thing I know is that they both support App-2-Sd.
Which is actually ofcourse the most important thing to know,
but what other <better improved> features does the XXUBMF8 (DBT) have than XXUBMEA (DBT)?
And how are overall user experiences with both versions?
Hello! I rooted my S4 today and installed the CWM recovery and flashed my new rom which is the Foxhound 2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303239. I have had my older device rooted and i have flashed couple roms with it (huawei ideos x5) and i didn't want to lose all my files and apps from my S4 while flashing this rom, so i didn't do the factory reset thing. I wiped my cache and dalvik cache and then i flashed my rom. As soon as i got it working i was hyped and so on but i noticed that the Settings app was missing. I looked via root explorer and it wasn't in the folder /system/app/. I looked from the magical internet and didn't find anything. Nothing at all. I tried installing some setting.apk's but none of them worked. I downloaded the stock android 4.2.2 rom and copied the settings.apk from there but no, it didn't do anything. I tried also installing those setting apk's but it says 'app not installed'. I had my backup of the android 4.2.2 in my phone but when i tried to restore it to my phone, it said something about m5 sum thing or what it was i don't remember. If you have any clue, please help. I'm lost and i need guidance.
Sorry if there is some bad English, i'm from Finland.

The sammobile.com/firmwares are for all Samsung phones. Fill in N9005 in the fw search box to search firmwares.

There is no returning to 4.3 once you have upgraded your bootloader to 4.4.2

You mentioned nogo to 4.3 due to bootloader however i dindt check the bootloader option in odin (see screenshot). Should i tick that as well next time?
Well there is some debate as to if you should check the bootloader or not.
With the leaked Polish firmware it came in seperate files. You needed to check to upgrade the Bootloader.
With the XEO single .zip firmware you don't need to check it as it upgrades automatically - plenty agree with this. -- There is a few people who say that by not checking it, it hasn't upgraded for them and some just recommend you check it for good luck sake.

Normally after the odin flash, all apps/data etc are there? If not what is the best/tried method of backup without root?
Thanks

Does this rom suffer from any battery drain issues? or in general any issues? this isnt beta so i suppose none should exist.
No drain issues no, pretty decent build tbh.

MEGA is country based per account. So if I upload to my MEGA it comes from a UK Server which is slow to Asia/America etc, trick is to set up your own MEGA account, and then import it from the download MEGA link and it'll switch to a server in your country and you'll get faster download speeds
