Could it be possible to create a section for Developer Devices. I had an S4 Developer Edition and now an S5 Developer Edition and it can be very confusing when methods for root, flashing roms etc start to flow for the Note 4. For Dev Edition owners, flashing a retail version of something can be disastrous and much of what works for the Dev Edition will not work for the retail version. I know of at least 6 Dev Owners that locked their bootloaders because they misunderstood instructions and locked their bootloaders. If we could keep things separate it might help many users, retail and Dev owners, from doing something that winds up bricking their phone. Just a thought for consideration. Thanks.

+1. Dev Edition is on the way. Locking the bootloader would make me sad.
I contacted a Mod Kenny about this, I'm not sure if he didn't understand but he kept saying he created a forum in General. I 100% agree I really think we need a focused area for Dev Edition only to help people new old understand there are 2 versions of the Verizon phone and though they are on the same network they are different phones! Try messaging Kenny or other mods, this is a must!

It would be so helpful to have something like
**Verizon Note 4 Developer Thread - Model: SM-N910VMKEVZW**
Developer General - Talk away
Rooting / Recovery Information How To's, Etc. - Instructions whats going on, future root etc etc.
Roms - Developer 1
Roms - Developer 2
Roms - Developer 3 Etc.
This would keep all the Developer Edition Content contained so Regular Note 4 users aka noobs don't get confused and this and that.. and at the same note we as the Developer Edition community could keep our goals, questions, ideas, and developments focused.

I happened to stop in here looking for the stock build to get started on a kernel, and I figured I would throw down my $0.02
If the chatter in the T-Mobile section is any indication, a lot of first-time owners are buying the developer edition because they saw it listed on Android Police or some other Android news site and want to avoid having to unlock the bootloader and such to install custom builds. Creating a developer edition section is only going to end up leading to these "noobs" with developer edition phones trying to figure out which versions of things they should install.
If you are just looking for a section restricted to actual developers, there is http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/galaxy-note-4-developer-discussion-developers-only

Dev Edition definitely needs to be completely seperate from the regular device posts. Too much of the content is mixed, thereby making this section look unorganized. There may be a "Developers Section Only"; but not all related posts are posted here. This would include general and troubleshooting posts. Make the change moderator!

We heard from a lot of users and moderators on the issue of whether to put all Galaxy S forums under one roof or to offer separate forums for them all.
For the sake of keeping confusion to a minimum plus ensuring that XDA stays as organized as possible, we've officially decided to launch forums for all four variants of the Galaxy S. We expect these four devices (plus the unlocked Galaxy S) to be very popular devices once they're on sale.
Here are the links!
Sprint Epic 4G
AT&T Captivate
T-Mobile Vibrant
Verizon Fascinate
This forum will be for the unlocked European version of the Galaxy S that has been on sale since June.
Thanks to everyone!
Edit by Chainfire:
Please note various Q&A from the i9000 (unlocked European version) FAQ may still be relevant to your device:

Is there any way for them to be all under the same parent forum on the tree so that we don't get heavy fragmentation in discussions? It would make it easier for people to find threads that were for other Galaxy S derived devices that also affected them, but were posted in the other forums.

The Themes and Apps sections will indeed have some redundancy, and we may remove those forums except from the main Galaxy S I9000. Then the trouble becomes that people will post about themes and apps with the OTHER forums like General, etc. So, we'll have to play it by ear and see how things go!
Keep the forums separate, but how about having a universal Themes and Apps topics all linked to the main one here?
can we have all the varieties themes and apps page link to the galaxy s one? Accessories and ROM dev. is nice to have separated but general and apps do not. If a thread poster feels it is phone specific he can just state the variant in the title no?

sorry.. but bad move to create separate forums... we now have to check 5 forums to find what we want.
this reminds me of the G1/Magic32B/Magic32A forums where nearly all development and modding was posted in the G1 forum (dev device), leaving the Magic forums abandoned, or full of links to G1 forum posts for those with 32B radios.
I predict that the Vibrant & Euro unlocked S will be the most used devices, leaving the other forums as good as empty or posted with stuff like "I found this on the Vibrant/S forum".
what about the forum search? will we now need to search all forums? increases the load right?
anyway.. last time I checked the poll regarding this, most of the users voted for seperate SUB forums.. did this change so drastically in the last weeks?
Separate forums of the SAME device by US carriers??? WTF?

Precisely.
I see no reason for 5 separate forums. I think a much better idea would have to have a single GalaxyS forum, and add subforums for specific variants as the need arises (if it ever does).
Having 5 forums just wastes everyone's time. It even makes searching useless .

I think it would have been best to make them all in 1 forum and then have a sub forums for GSM and CDMA...
or make a sub forum for each device and a main forum for all of them to have a General...
cause there are many issues people are talking about in the Vibrant and the I9000 which are EXACTLY the same...
not to mention we need some stickies with common issues and questions..
On a similar note. The Samsung Vibrant or Galaxy S similar to the european version has 4 haptic buttons whereas the latter has only 2 and the
Big plastic intergrated middle button. Is this something people would prefer and would it be beneficial in the long run of android where it would
have been if the phone was to run windows 7.
BTW.... I Am not pleased that the American market also shipped this with the Avatar Film pre-installed...LOL!

I'd be okay with merging the Vibrant, Captivate, and that Verizon model, but I feel that the Galaxy S is too different in both hardware and software to merge it. Do we really want to be dealing with people who flashed the wrong ROM that was in the same forum?

Please make this happen!
*Flashed back to the Hero forum before they where separate* Horrible Idea wanting to put CDMA and GSM phones in the same area - many a Hero where sent to an early grave by mixing the Dev boards for these 2. Someone posts a GSM radio update and a CDMA guy gets it thinking "Hey, what the Hell, couldn't hurt!" and there goes their $500.00 phone. Then they something about having insurance replace it and a huge debate starts over insurance fraud. And I've been told that insurance on the Epic is a one time use, then they drop it and you are Ef'd on a second one.
So consider this my vote against a huge forum of all GS devices. Also, with the hardware differences on a kernel level I have to think this would be a developer nightmare. As active as all 5 boards are already, there would be no way to keep up as a community to help each other out. Your thread would be buried in 10 minutes and we would have to deal with 5 times as many people asking stupid "Which rom is the best" or "How do I root my phone" questions without searching.

Demanding a response from a mod isn't likely to be met well. There's a lot of exclamation marks going on there. I think you might've forgotten a couple of 1's.
Why does it need to be split, are you confused from the huge selection of roms and development that's going on
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
galaxy tab has no movement (compared with desire, nexus, galaxy-s and others).
divisions are not needed, imho.
the thread titles are explicit.
Not until the source for honeycomb is released.
I personally agree with the OP. I think the section need to be split. I don't think the titles are always explicit and can be confusing. They are less confusing when you've been around for a while because the Tab forum has like no movement as was said earlier. I'm just not sure how they can split since some of the euro roms work on CDMA devices.
I have to say that I too agree. Nothing is more frustrating for a CDMA SGT owner looking for goodies, than to have to scroll through countless GSM posts. Not all posts are clear, some say only (ROM) which works fine for any other topic, but as long as there are 2 versions of the product, there should be 2 versions of threads. Just my 2 cents...
Sent from my EVO using ESP.
I see no valid reason for this forum to be split, it would do more harm then good. What it infact needs is some sort of mandatory tagging scheme like the HD2 section has.
Devs need to tag their releases clearly and informatively to a set standard so users of their work have a clear and expected way of getting that info.
Example...
[10.MAR.11][ROM][GSM/CDMA] Release Name/Version [KERNEL]
This way you can clearly see the date and other needed info just by checking titles of topics.
You guys should visit the HD2 section and see how organised things are there, Yes there is waaaaay less dev work in the Tab section but better to start as you mean to go on.
I agree with both Grim and the OP.
I think what is desired is an easier way to find what will work with your device.
I moved to the Verizon version of this device from an original Moto Droid. With phones it seemed easier. If I was in the MotoDroid area, I knew that everything worked... (yeah, right) at least it was supposed to.
Here, it is much harder.
So either a consistent method of tagging a file posting or splitting. Either way solves the real goal.
Just my 14 cents...

The merge was initially done because we had high hopes that everyone would play in the sandbox nicely. Sadly this did not happen to the level we hoped for, although do not misunderstand, there was a lot of carrier-independent collaboration going on. It also ended up being a nightmare to keep clean and [relatively] free of clutter due to threads not being labeled correctly.
The Accessories sections have been merged with the International section, so clicking those links will take you to a one stop shop for advice on what to buy for your newest toy. Of course the Development and Original Development sections will continue as well.
Let's make the best of this situation. With some help from everyone, we can get everything sorted in a day or two. In the meantime, new threads should NOT be created in this section. It just increases our workload.

So nothing is "dead".
The Z2 tablet is not a best seller, it is a high-end Android tablet with a very limited user base. Of course devices which have sold an order of magnitude more like the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 attract more developers, but then look at the forums for the Galaxy S5 Mini, where there is hardly any development at all. Compared to such devices we do very well here.
I personally am glad that we have good developers supporting our tablet and a range of custom ROMs to choose from and I am thankful for the ROMs we have and for the work the developers spend in their free time.
Finally, this is XDA here - if you think there are too few ROMs here feel free to make your own one instead of alienating the developers we have by complaining about their work.

OK, sorry... I take it all back.
Did not thought my post would suggest such vehement reaction.
In fact, what did I wrote ?
Simply that on the whole channel dedicated to "Z2 Tablet Android development" there has not been a single post in over 3 weeks...
Which makes me fear that development is not really alive for a device I really like.
Does it deserve such reaction ?
Maybe. But I beg to differ...
I am not whining, I am not complaining... I was just stating.
That makes a difference to me. Maybe not to you...

See, CM12 and Lollipop AOSP were updated just 2 days ago, on 2015-01-10. PAC was updated today, before it was updated on 2015-01-05. Yesterday, a new pre-rooted stock ROM for the SGP521 was posted.
Yet you ask if development is dead.
In my opinion, this is insulting the developers who do the work for us - for free, mind you!
I do not want to start a flame war or a non-technology-related discussion here. I merely want to point out that I do not share your view and that I am thankful for the ROMs we have.
Also I want to point out that I appreciate the work the developers do - we already have 'lost' a developer here in this forum who was alienated by some comments from certain members, and I think this shouldn't be repeated.
Hence I felt that I have to reply to your post to make the developers know that there are members on this board who do not share your view. Usually I simply ignore such posts to prevent spamming the forums, but I think your repeated complaints (no Apps2SD, no 4.4 AOSP, no new developments) warrant a reply.

See, CM12 and Lollipop AOSP were updated just 2 days ago, on 2015-01-10. PAC was updated today, before it was updated on 2015-01-05. Yesterday, a new pre-rooted stock ROM for the SGP521 was posted.

you are both wrong, aosp daily builds are well, everyday, same with the official cm12 since, we get official, p.s. the current recovery in cm12 doesn;t flash, you have to downgrade the boot.img every time to the one from cm11 before updating
