Do we have success any stories of activating the Sharp Aquos Crystal 306S with Ting.com (Sprint MNVO)?
If so, which Device? Sprint-Prepaid (306SHASB) or Boost Mobile (306SHBBB)?
EDIT: The Sprint Prepaid version of 306SH works with Ting.com!!!

Well, I just went ahead and bought the Sprint-Prepaid version, Model # SH306SHASB, over at Best Buy this afternoon.
It activated with Ting.com without any problems, Voice and Data 4G/LTE is working fine; have not tried MMS yes, but SMS works.
(Did not have a chance to give it a full run, but will tonight.)
The wife absolutely loves it! (Her Epic 4G Touch was starting to bore her, and I will absolutely NOT buy her the "Fruit Phone").
#happywife=happylife
Actually, I do like the phone's look and feel. The design is very eye catching. It does not feel too light or "plasticy" in the hand, the screen is a good size.
Now my S4 looks like an old man with a grey beard...

Does the Sprint prepaid version have the built-in tethering or a mobile hotspot app pre-loaded and does it work? From what I read on another site, those are missing in the Boost version.
I'm seriously considering getting a Crystal for my next phone, just waiting on some decent cases, hopefully Lolipop, and I'm already on Ting.
Haven't tried tethering; will have a look at it when the wifey gets home this afternoon ...

Did you also check under the Settings > Wireless & Networks > More ? That's where the Moto G on Sprint Prepaid has it, and it's also running a fairly stock android load.

What I did, was just open the box and went straight to Ting.com to activate. No Sprint involvement whatsoever.
sprint version works, extra steps
Bought a sprint prepaid version (SH306SHASB) from Amazon.com during their $130 sale.
Followed reviewtechnica instructions for activating the boost version on ting.
It would not automatically activate through Ting until I turned on WiFi and updated the PRL and Profile (Search "ting Initiating a PRL Update")

No prior activation; took it right to Ting.
Doing a review of the phone right now.
The way I understood it...is that for a newly released phone to be compatible with Ting... it must never be activated on Sprint Post Paid. Otherwise you are going to have to wait about 1 year until Sprint white lists the ESN for Ting/MVNO use.
Not 100% sure if that would apply if you had activated it on Sprint Pre Paid or Boost, but it is very possible. So if you want Ting, do not activate it anywhere else than Ting first.
good. Thanks for share !
Just looked into their plans. They would cost me more money. I only pay $40

Me too. Got mine from Boost Wireless and activate it with Ting. I am enjoying the $65 phone and $100 credit now.
Network Provider shows Chameleon instead of Sprint
Activated Boost Mobile Aquos in Ting.com, phone works, but the network provider shows Chameleon instead of sprint. Updated PRL and Voice setting, no change.
I found that the same problem has been reported by others for Aquos and other phones.
Anyone here has the same issue? How to solve it? It may not be an urgent problem, since I can still get voice, message and LTE connection.

I don't think it is an "issue", who cares. You can root your phone and change it to everything you want.
As soon as we get root, that is.
Meanwhile I'm here to offer a few words of caution. The Sprint Prepaid/Boost versions of the Aquos Crystal don't seem to support off-network roaming. If you'll be in areas where you might need to fall back on Verizon for voice and text, you'll need to buy the postpaid model, which costs a bit more.

Story:
Last Saturday (11/13/10), I had gone into my local T-mobile store with the intention of purchasing a galaxy tab. The idea being that with a whole lot of help from the great devs and everyone on here that I would soon have a fully functional phone. The only way to achieve this is to use a plan that has voice/txt/data. I currently have the unlimited even more plus plan with my G1. The representative that I had spoke with on saturday assured me that all I would have to do is pull the sim from my G1 and use it in the tab. So I proceeded to purchase the tab *at full price*.
Got home, changed sims out. The only website that I could go to was the t-mobile site and the main google page. I could send/receive txt msgs. Wifi worked fine.
Today (11/15/10), I had called and set up an appointment with the same representative to help me fix the data issue. Got there after work. They were trying to help me when the manager stepped in, told the sales associate to go in the back and that he would take over. From that point on I was verbally berated and talked down to by said manager. Ending in the manager saying that everything that I was told by the sales representative was a miscommunication or that things that I was told, in front of other sales reps, never happened. At that point, I calmly said that I was well within my period to return the Tab at full price. The manager said fine in a huff. That went smoothly until he told me that there would be a return/restocking fee. And I'll admit it, that would be when I lost it, said somethings I shouldn't have. Finally paid the fee, got my money back, and jumped on here. Suffice it to say I am still furious. And I will never use T-mobile again, none of my family will ever use t-mobile again, I will tell everyone I know not to use T-mobile.
Good luck on getting the phone option to work. The webconnect data plan is the only option you have for a plan and t-mobile is actively blocking voice on it.
That's too bad because someone on here from T-Mobile claims that non-contract $600 T-Mobile Samsung Tab with Even More Plus plan with data portion provisioned for Android works. Save me time and money as I was about to go this route.
Unlocking doesn't help
Confirmed. Also, to my experience, unlocking doesn't help. If you unlock, you can use an AT&T card, but a T-mobile SIM card with an "Even More Plus" plan (voice + unlimited data) will only go to Google and T-mobile. What is wrong with T-mobile?
Well, the real question is, does a SIM from SimpleMobile (on the T-Mobile network) work. I thought I'd seen a report that it did, and only the software was a problem currently.
yes, if your tab is unlocked, and you flash the euro firmware, it works fine, other than running on edge. i am using it myself.

The one thing I advice you to do is have direct comms with your knowledgable rep. Ask him when he works with no managers. That way he can work your account and have no one to question what he is doing. Its your device, its your money! Just dont ask the rep to do anything crazy.keep in mind too if there are alot of customers, let them go so you can have more time for hacking.

read the post wrong sorry
Confirmed.
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile Customer Service.
Without providing alot of detail to the Rep. giving the IMEI, He confirmed that they only allow tablets for data only.
to the respect that it is 'their' Infrastructure, and they can do what they like. There really isn't any sensible reason to even have this line of separation unless you consider they are trying to control 'phones' and 'tablets' as seperate commodity.
The recent post from a Store 'rep' pretty much confirms this. It's a manual human intervention. Which now recently looks like they have all known IMEI of certain tablets to filter for people trying to use their tablets as a phone.
Still lame. This adds another notch to jump ship in November to Sprint.
To WhiteBeau, i can confirm that i have a regular phone plan on my device (GALAXY TAB GT-P1000). The way I was able to acquire this was by not providing them with my IMEI # (the less info you give them the better), and I JAILBROKE my table to totally REMOVE MY TMOBILE SECURITY PAGE (SPLASH PAGE) that pops up asking for your info. However the downfall to this is that it wipes out your IMEI #, but this is something I can deal with. Now i get with my $30 a month plan is 100mnts talk, unlimited text (pics & vids) and unlimited internet (first 5gigs @ 4g speed). So now i dont feel like Im getting molested by Tmobile... lol.......
I recently was looking to upgrade my phone, which currently is a LG motion (For those of you who care) running metro PCS service.
My question is, does anyone know if MetroPCS service allows for a Google Nexus 4 to run? The phone supposedly (according to threads on the internet) can actually run LTE even though it doesn't claim so. Some say that it's signals and services also can run with metro PCS. I wouldn't mind only having Phone and Text with them, so if the cost of data is necessary that could be arranged.
Thank you all!

Wrong. MetroPCS is now with T-Mobile and they plan to merge the networks together.
@OP: More details here,
We knew this day would come and thanks to a trio of screenshots leaked to the boys at PhoneArena, we know an actual date. Beginning June 12th, MetroPCS customers will have the opportunity to use compatible unlocked GSM phones which include iPhones, Android, Windows Phone and certain feature phones. There’s no telling just how many devices out of the Android lineup Metro customers will be able to choose from, but it’s clear T-Mobile and MetroPCS are moving fast to offer the latter customers with more options. As of June 12th, Metro customers will head to www.metropcs.com/keepyourphone to find which unlocked devices will be available.

MetroPCS is still CDMA so how am I wrong? They have a boat load of CDMA phones out there in customers hands that would need to be traded in. What they more than likely will do is eventually force those MetroPCS customers onto T-Mobile as MetroPCS has no infrastructure, just customers. And just because MetroPCS will be offering T-Mobile devices doesn't mean they will also offer prepaid bring your own phone plans for T-Mobile service. Their business model is to sell you a phone at full price and then you get a no contract month to month service plan. It would be cheaper to just go to T-Mobile and get a no contract plan than to have to buy a T-Mobile phone at MetroPCS, sign up for a plan, and then switch sims over to the Nexus 4.

Come on man you made the guy seem like he gave a bad answer when you typed in Wrong like that. Hey OP MetroPCS is cdma and we all know that and no you can't bring your phone to MetroPCS to get it turned on but hey when they finish the merger with T-Mobile then maybe the Metro stores (new T-Mobile) will be able to handle that for you. But if you are looking for prepay choices look into Walmarts plan, Simple Mobile and T-Mobiles prepaid since they are all along the line of MetroPCS.
Also dont get caught up in the LTE hype for speeds. If you are lucky enough to live in a HSPA+ area there is nothing wrong with 18 - 25 mbps download. Anything over a constant 5mbps is good enough to stream HD in most cases. Also LTE gonna destroy your battery life... Just my opinion guys
http://www.tmonews.com/2013/06/metr...ogram-opening-up-network-to-t-mobile-devices/
Told you so.
The program supports AT&T and T-Mobile iPhones, and the iPhone 5 from Verizon and Sprint. Also supported are GSM-based Android phones and Windows Phone devices, but not BlackBerry smartphones, or any tablets/mobile hotspots. MetroPCS customers will choose from the company’s current offering of $40/$50/$60 rate plans to use with the devices. In the end, the program is basically a way for T-Mobile devices to activate on the Metro network.
There are some limitations to the bring-your-own-device program including: “MetroPCS does not assume any liability for the lack of effectiveness for non-MetroPCS devices,” the carrier wrote on its website.

Go to the MAIN metro store in your local area to do it..on the phone all the reps said no but i just went in to the main dealer in my area and they got it to work..the small stores most likely cant do it because they have to program it for some reason..its not just putting in a sim card like tmobile or att..metro pcs is even taking any unlocked phones from att and of course tmobile (getting my sis an iPhone from eBay because of that)..they are now a hspa+ network so it should work everywhere.. I was actually very surprised they were able to activate it but inside the store they had a notice saying they are changing all their phones to T-Mobile's hspa and to upgrade phones soon. And their price was actually cheaper then the 60$ they advertised for unlimited everything

In my area, the update has only just rolled out sometime last month. Go too your MetroPCS store and ask if you can, they should be able to give you an estimate. In my case the update was a substantial improvement too speed making the release obvious.
METROPCS is GSM now so any unlocked phone or tmobike GSM phone will work. They no longer sell CDMA phones but will support the network through 2015 before it goes full GSM.

Anybody out there with the Google edition running on AT&T have LTE speeds working?
Here in the Atlanta metro area, we are supposed to have LTE on AT&T, but the phone HSPA connects with only about 1Mb down and 0.1Mb up speed tests
How do we make sure the phone is ready to work on AT&T LTE? AT&T rep says "check settings" ..... ummmmmmm she probably has an iPhone.
Does your current data plan actually support LTE? Have you had an LTE phone previously?
It usually only comes down to 2 things.
1) APN settings. You can verify by going to Settings (she was right, sort of), More (under Wireless & Networks), then Mobile Networks and APNs. You should be using one named AT&T LTE with an APN name of just "phone".
2) Make sure your data plan specifically says 4G LTE for Smartphones. If it doesn't say LTE, you need to get AT&T to change it.
I've used this app in the past on AOSP roms and such, and it works great.

Did you just swap your sim from one phone to another?
I am curious because on another forum LTE is not working.
Your phone has the LTE icon in the status bar?
thanks
Had the same issue yesterday when I received the phone. Spent an hour at the att store swapping Sim cards, changing imei numbers and trying different apns. Finally did a factory reset and it worked. We felt stupid. Not sure if thats the case with yours but give it a try.
EDIT
Also came across another thread with the same issue and another person said they had to change the IMEI on the account to a demo model. We also did the same with mine just before the reset. Here's the quoted text.
Solved. I went to the ATT store copied down the IMEI of a demo LTE phone. Called support, gave them the IMEI and that allowed them to add an LTE plan.

We tried all sorts of APN settings, but there seems to be a larger issue here causing problems on many or all Google Edition S4 phones on AT&T's network, and that is the IMEI numbers of these Google Edition phones register with AT&T as not supporting LTE and therefore AT&T's data plan doesn't have LTE enabled for those devices. Many owners of Google Edition phones are having this issue, and are solving it by getting the IMEI number in the system to register as a demo with slightly different numbers. Not all people with Google Edition phones are having this issue, because they are just using a SIM card from a previous AT&T phone that was already properly registered with LTE capabilities.
Seems like AT&T just isn't ready for these new Google Edition phones, and the customer service reps are not usually tech. savvy enough to figure this out.
I might add that I myself am on the T-Mobile network (this post was for my friend on AT&T), and I generally get LTE speeds in excess of 30Mb down and 20Mb up here at work where I get 3 out of 4 bars of signal. In the AT&T store nearby, I got 2/4 bars signal and my speed tests still beat the pants off the demo model AT&T had, which got 3/4 bars signal. I say this because I am paying only $100/month for unlimited everything on TWO 4GLTE phones with T-Mobile, while my wife was paying $120/month for the same with AT&T for only ONE phone. The way AT&T garners exclusive deals on phone model variants that we should all be able to purchase and jacks up the prices of service to double that of the competitors, it's time for people to jump ship and force them to become more competitive.

I'm in the same boat. My previous phone (Galaxy Nexus) was not LTE-capable, so after getting a new SIM card for my new i9505g, it's only connecting at HSPA speed. Online chat with AT&T rep wasn't very fruitful. They are saying that the phone is showing up as "unrecognized device" and is causing the issue, and there's nothing they can do about that.
I am about to take a trip to an actual store to see if they have more knowledgeable staff there. Any tips or tricks (or super-secret handshakes) I should know about while talking to them?

Yeah put your sim in an LTE capable att device, have them add the imei and you'll get the LTE plan. You should be good after that. Othwerwise, have them add a dummy imei or one from a display phone. Good luck at the store as this will probably blow their mind.:good:

Thanks for the tips!
It went surprisingly well. The rep knew exactly what the problem was (he figured it was a phone shipped from overseas) and went the dummy IMEI route. Within 10 minutes I had LTE.
Nice one. Glad you got someone that knew what's up!

finally got LTE on AT&T
Hey all! I have been scouring the internet trying to get my LTE to work for the past two days I have used every APN I could find as well as downloaded ther notification toggle app to try to enable LTE.
at one point I did have a LTE data plan but I guess not anymore...
anyways I went on the my att.com account and I somehow got to two different technical support chat windows. The first time I gave him my real IMEI# from my I9505G and he couldn't add the LTE plan because it was not recognized as an ATT phone. I then got a friends ATT phone she is no longer using that has/had LTE on it and after telling me it didn't work, then finally on the third time using 'technical support' she didn't ask for any IMEI number at all just told me it worked.
(I think it was the live chat I found on the support section of my AT&T or something) I am only mentioning this because of the three times I was on live chat I got one texct survey this morning (I was on live chat last night 3x)
I gave all 1's out of 10 (worst possible) but mentioned the chat person was friendly and that I was just unhappy with AT&T.
AT&T then called me this afternoon about the survey and asked if I wanted them to fix the issue..... Was this a real question?
I said yes and now I have LTE working great using the default phone APN that was on the phone from the factory.
Hope this helps some ATT users!!!

Hey guys, to all who are wondering... T-Mobile stores do have some stock of the blue Nexus 6 32gb today, didn't have an issue getting mine. I do have an account with a single line on T-Mobile that I do not use, so I used that account and paid for device in full ($650). Out of the box, it works great on Verizon. Voice quality is much better than Droid Turbo and iPhone 6+. Data speeds are strong (75mbps down & 30up) on LTE.
All I had to do to activate on Verizon was either let device self activate with Verizon SIM that takes about 5 minutes, or by going into Settings - More - Cellular and toggling Global mode.
The reason I made this thread is incase somebody who is like me and got tired of waiting for Google and Moto to have stock and wanted to purchase it via T-Mobile and use on another carrier. My friend works in a retail store and he said that even if you do not have an account with them, you can still buy you at full cost.
Does that mean its sim unlock?

Yes, it works too.
can you try terthering?
if this works i think i will ask one of my boys who has t mobile to get me a phone out right.. i want the 64gb version tho..
My question is. Will Verizon whitelist the numbers from tmobile later down the line doh and block it from working on their towers. ?

Why would you do that? I have it set to LTE and it seems to keep onto an LTE signal longer compared to "Global" mode, which I would use if I was traveling overseas and inserted a local SIM into my device.
But wouldn't it lose signal if you leave lte coverage and drop to 3g? Since Verizon is CDMA.

No. Even my current moto x is in global and it switches between LTE and 3g just fine

Wait but you just said that yours is in Global and switches just fine. Would it switch fine while on LTE?

I changed mine to LTE, using this way for 2 days, swiched to CDMA couple of times.. mine is a Moto store N6
Does hotspot work or is it blocked like AT&T?
Sorry, I don't have an ATT Sim. I only tried it for a few minutes when my friend was here to ensure that the device worked.

I have a t-mobile nexus 6 with a Verizon SIM. Hotspot works on Verizon if you switch the cellular mode to LTE. It didn't work for me when in global mode which was the default out if the box.
Does it do voice and data at the same time on verizon?

No. Same radio as iPhone 6. Unfortunately we lose this until VoLTE is a more adopted thing.

Just tested it and I cannot get simultaneous voice and data over a cellular connection on Verizon with the Nexus 6.
God I love you right now lol, I am sick of the play store **** so I am probably just going to buy mine on prepaid online tommorow and have it shipped.

Hey guys. I've been highly considering this phone to replace my note 3. I currently have unlimited data on Verizon, don't plan on losing it. Have a few questions.
-Are there any limitations using this phone on Verizon?
-How do I get a sim card for it? 3rd party retail stores?
-Any significant things I should be aware of?
-If at some point I want to switch to Sprint, can I use the same phone?
Thanks guys appreciate the help
I am currently on Verizon and have had no issues. I used same sim card that I had in the Note3, just had to trim the card to fit.
Hi, I use this phone on Verizon and as far as I know you will be able to get a sim from any of Verizon's retail stores. It activated on the first try using the meid and the sim's iccid. This phone will also work on Sprint without any issues.

saying that there are no issues isn't exactly right, I have mine on Verizon and for one the visual voicemail does not work.. There's also no way to get it to work.
There are some work around you can do to get visual voicemail with Google Voice, but if you want to use HD voice you have to turn those off.
The My Verizon Mobile app does not work on here, and the Nexus version that they made for the Nexus 6 does. Or at least it would if you are willing to go and change to one of their new plans. They actually have now pay wall the Nexus My Verizon Mobile app behind a plan change. If you don't want to change your plan, you cannot log into the app anymore.
Other than that no problems whatsoever for me. You can go get a SIM card if you want at any local Verizon or you can call Verizon explain to him what's going on and will send you one for free.
This is really a world phone, you can take it anywhere. I took mine with me on vacation to Belize earlier this year and used it just fine down there.
I'd rather not cut my card, because I don't think I'm that graceful where it won't get messed up. But at Verizon they can activate the sim, and I should still be able to keep my plan?

The majority of this post is correct and exactly my experience, except that you CAN have HD calling and Google voice for voicemail. I use it daily and have no issues. This was originally thought to be true but has since been proven to work.
I got my sim from a company owned Verizon store. They did give me a little grief saying if its not recognized by their system they can't activate it, but I verified on their site before-hand that it is recognized and they looked it up to find the same thing.
So you have Visual Voicemail working with HD voice also working?
How did you do that?

No he said HD and Google Voice.
I actually prefer GV over Verizon VVM.
I get a text with the VM contents. No need to even check VM.

Exactly right. Seems to have a better grasp of the content over the VZW option as well.
I prefer Google Voice visual voicemail too (getting the texts/emails), but everything I saw when trying to get HD voice to work said that they don't and can't work together. So again I ask, how do you get those working together? I know what it is, I had Google Voice's version of it working fine before.

I had no issues when I activated my 5X onto my account with unlimited data. My plan went unchanged. I simply walked into my local Verizon store and they activated a nano sim for my 5X. I moved over from a Verizon GSIII.

There's nothing special that needs done. Just do the normal setup of GV and done. I've had Google voicemail and HD voice since day 1 when the phone launched.

This! I did standard setup and it worked fine for me with HD calling
Same here, Google Voice and HD calling, no problems. That's on all three of the family 6ps with unlimited data.
