Hi all,
i think there is a high change of not getting root after offical 5.0 update. My phone is not rooted or flashed but i want as soon as any good rom come.
Should i wait till with the update (when it´s out) till there is a good 5.0 rom?

in my opinion no you should not wait or take OTA's we will have custom 5+ roms why risk being completely stuck on stock .... plus we will most likely have 5.0 before LG release it (im assuming on this from my experience with other devices and the way the community works compared to companies)
Thank you for the information.

Hello,
So everybody is bummed about not getting the 2.1 update from htc. And also for me waiting untill june is to long. So i've desided to root my Hero and instal the legend-ROM. So far it's clear.
I've done some reading before rooting, so I do not have a question about that. But some hing's are not that clear to me. SO if I root my Hero, i will loose the possibility to accept the OTA update. But is is possible to get the official update anyway, when it comes in June?
And will i lose my rooting indefinitely, or is it possible to get the rooting again after getting the official ROM?
These are the last thing i would like to know before rooting.
Thanks in advance!
You will be able to install the official Rom if not by OTA there will be an RUU on the HTC website.
If you install that you will lose root and chances are never be able to root again.
If you wait like 10 minutes or so after its release there will be pre-rooted version available on this website, so just install one of those.
Awsome! Fast and great reply.
Didn't think of that.
Everyone working on developing here are getting my thanks!
I wil start rooting my hero imidiately!
Hey everyone

Please let me know whats goin on here.

It's new KitKat rom. Very fast and stable, alot better than 20X roms. Suprised noone mentioned it yet, it rolled out in Russia a week ago...

While I can't answer specifically, maybe it's something to make the upgrade to Lollipop more smooth. Lollipop isn't out for my VS985 but there was another smallish/medium KitKat update within the past month for us, don't know if this is similar for you, just an idea.
If you're rooted and not planning on taking the Lollipop OTA then I wouldn't sweat it if you're just going to flash Lollipop from a customized stock ROM. Any fixes for KitKat to update to Lollipop would probably only affect an OTA update.

Thank you. In fact, I'm going to stay a little longer before upgrading to lollipop, to see how it works on other devices. I hope this new update could make the battery last longer.
Cheers.

Well, lollipop is available via lg pc suit but I'm going to wait a little longer to see if theres any bugs and malfunctions and then switch to it.
Thanks for the reply though.
Btw, is there any changelog for updates out there?
Maybe one off the devs can do a flashable zip out of it
Found the link via google:

they promised official update by end of the year but there is no actual official update yet yeah there are two soak tests i installed both of the them i was waiting for fastboot flashable stock rom which is usually uploaded to file factory after release of official update i'm currently on cm 14.1 thanks to dev community for this mobile you guys worked really hard and one more question when official update arrives i want to flash it via fastboot from pc rather than downgrading to stock 6.0.1 and downloading OTA update. will this brick my device because there maybe a case in which they may have updated the bootloader again which can cause issues or even brick the device i don't want to risk
There is something called a "period". You should try it sometimes.

They did not "promise" that we would have the upgrade by the end of this year. They said Q1 of 2017 I thought which still runs another few months and that wasn't even an official release notes I thought. Yes grammar would be helpful.
Well

Joyfully Agreedd!! :fingers-crossed:
It is already mid April and no fix date on the release of Oreo update. I am not very concerned about the security patches but I would love to try out new features before purchasing another device. So, is it better to root and try out new oreo based ROMs or just wait for the update?

hi..if device still under warranty better ignored it..
You should wait for the office release if you are not experienced with flashing and root.
Btw think about the following questions:
1. why do i need a new phone after 2 years?
2. which feature do i really need that my current phone isnt capable to handle nearly the same?
3. If you get a phone 4 free via your provider: Couldnt i save money if i had a cheaper mobile plan?
Regards
Wait for the Oreo update then root or install custom rom. Oreo might be the last major update for S7/edge.

Even if you root your phone, you will be always back to stock, cause stock rom is the most stable fw less bug(for me)
Im suggesting you that you dont need to be rooted, wait for the official release,if you are looking for feature rich phone and can afford to buy latest flagship then go for it,but think about it,technology becoming more advanced and high-tech,so every year upgrade doesnt worth it,id rather wait for s10 or s11,im sure after some years we will have a new technology for mobile phone ?
Thank you all for the replies. Anyway, my phone isn't under warranty and I don't care about securities. Last thing I wanna know is will I be able to receive updates after I root and go back to pure stock.

You won't get any OTA updates. You'd have to download and flash any future updates, in which case you'd have to re root again too.
If you want OTA updates again flash Stock
Hey all, i heard that Oreo update will change the Bootloader of the phone. Does that mean that i won't be able to go back to MM after updating to Oreo, even via Odin ?
I'm using a G935F

I like having the choice, i like changing OS just like on my computer, for example going to Oreo then going back to MM to enjoy the old TouchWiz (running under MM rn). So having a newer bootloader that dosen't allow me to downgrade is a problem for me.

Sorry to hear that, you are just like me in the past years, but im tired enough to modify and flash all available fw,as i saw, official latest fw is the best performing system for me,im tired of all bugs in custom roms, but in official fw i can still customize phone through my needs and wants, just dont want to go back om trial for other os

I didn't tried any custom roms tho, i dont want to trip knox and there's still Oreo on the horizon nevertheless, but i gotta admit that customs roms like lineage or newer samsung experience ports are really tempting sometimes,to give a fresh new look of this "old" phone
