I hate the hiding of the Action Bar in most of the updated apps here on the Note 4 / KK. What gives the screen is freaking huge why would you hide these vital things when someone starts scrolling? I hate it!!!
What do you mean? can you post a screenshot?
So after some digging its Android 4.4 / Kit Kat's new Immersive Mode. The action bar and all the on screen controls are hidden when you're scrolling down, you need to scroll up for them to be seen which is insanely annoying.
For me Android 4.4 is looking like Windows 8. Skip it.

Hello I have this problem that my navigation bare just keeps on being there even though I'm on the homescreen see attachment. I'm running AOKP build 4, how to disable the navigation bare on home screen.
it makes not much sense my friend. you want to disable the navigation bar, like hiding it completely including buttons, for your homescreen alone? why would you want to that? if you meant that really you wanted to make it transparent but youre left with the impression of a bar then thats because you have shadows activated in your launcher, you must switch them off.
ahh
ahh edit
Links status bar and navbare was enableled in general setting and transperency under aokp rom
I have a Nexus 4 and after playing with stock, CM and PA ended up with a little "wish list" for my perfect ROM:
- ability to auto-hide both statusbar and navbar
(I mean they have to show-up only when needed, with a swipe or some sort of trigger)
- ability to customize nav-ring targets
(to add something more than Google Now).
For what I gather Slim Bean has these features, but would like to ear from more experienced XDA heads.
Thanks a lot guys!

Hi Mate,
Try Carbon ROM, Its pretty feature rich and runs slick.
Cheers, SUmit
CM has the first feature to auto hide status and nav bar it's under settings/system/expanded desktop to turn it on/off hold down the power button and you'll see the option.
Not sure what you mean about nav-ring controls, U mean like pie?
CM's Expanded Desktop doesn't let you show statusbar or navigation buttons with a swipe up/down; to view a notification you have to exit Expanded Desktop mode.
Navigation-ring is the ring which pops-up when you swipe from the bottom, the one normally used to launch Google Now.
For the nav ring in cm 10.1, you can add 2 more targets for a total of 3 and customize them under system->settings->quick launch shortcuts.

Yep, I know about CM customization options, but what I'm looking for is a ROM with BOTH the features mentioned in OP.

Do a nandroid and install slim bean and see if it works, if it doesn't flash another ROM to try and restore your backup.
However, on carbon (and presumably other ROMs) you can enable Expanded Desktop and use PIE for navigation and then, by enabling the chevron targets in the pie settings, flick up to either side from pie to show quick settings or notifications, depending on the side you flick up to.

Hello pals, wanted to share this
Its great for recovering some precious screen space. It works wonders for me
Its called GMD Auto Soft Keys, for me, its the best alternative to all the other soft button mods.
Hope you like it
Link is here
Tried it, horrible option if you like to play games.

How is it horrible when playing games?
Smart Statusbar is one solution. When in a full screen app / game, drag down from top of the screen as if checking a notification. You really only need to do this very slightly, just enough to make the status bar appear, and you will notice the GMD Auto Soft Keys indicator will reappear at the bottom also.
another option is button savior, but i prefer GMD,
GMD can hide the statusbar and the nav bar, without any build prop editing.
gaming is ok for me, just remember where your hotspot is and swipe there, y leave the hotspot in dead center so i can put it small and wouldn't interfere with games.
I also like GMD. It seems to be almost the same as ultimate dynamic nav bar xposed module but for me GMD is better because you can turn off the notification that stops a pull down on status bar going direct to my quick setting.
Here is another mod to free up some screen space.
Hidden but expandable Status Bar
If anyone makes this for Moto G, be sure to post it in 'Themes and Apps.'

I use GMD on other devices and only have praise for it
I purchased GMD last night and it was definitely worth it! My phone looks great now! I also have most apps set to fullscreen mode with Appsetting in Xposed so that hides the status bar. A quick swipe down from the top of the screen will reveal a semi-transparent status bar for a few seconds.
Some images for comparison (1st: Normal, 2nd: Swipe up from bottom, 3rd: Swipe down from top.):
GMD plus Pie Controls for me
Don't get me wrong, I love the app and the idea. It's just the description in the Google play store seems stupid to me. Here is what I'm talking about;
Code:
KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
Unfortunately, XDA isn't God. As such, we are limited in what we can and cannot do. Please read this!
- There is no way to make a space for the pill
- We cannot detect the presence of a keyboard
- We cannot directly detect changes in full screen mode
- Screen off and screenshot actions are only possible with root
My problem is with the first two "restrictions" which I feel like there are ways around.
First off the space for the pill....
Instead of disabling the nav bar with this adb command:
Code:
adb she'll am overscan 0,0,0,-202
You could leave it there and disable each individual button on the nav bar. I know this can be done because this is a feature of Custom Navbar app (Screenshots for proof). Then you could display the pill Navbar overtop of the empty space. You can display stuff over the Navbar. Rounded screen corner apps do this. If you did this the keyboard would display above the Navbar, and then you wouldn't have that issue either. It just seems like they don't want to try it....
And what's up with "this app doesn't work on Android P Dev preview? The command I listed earlier works fine when you turn off the gesture Navbar. Have they changed the way overlays work in Android P? I don't think so because all in one gestures still works.
I am honestly thinking of using Tasker scene to create my own pill Navbar above the blank Navbar as a proof of concept.
I tried to use it and these are my openions
It also overlapsthe screen content
Having a pill is pointless, it exists now only as a step to the no pill nav gestures that are going to be in Android Q. Can't alienate casual users by changing too much too fast unless your Apple after all. However that may be there are a half dozen apps on the market that do what they say can't be done; OnePlus gestures for example that costs you a buck fifty. Color me unimpressed with the XDA gestures.
Also got it to ignore that I was on Android P and let me set up the app. Screen shots of it working on Android P
Is there a way to swap the recents and back button on the OP6T? There was a way to do it on my 5, but it is either not present or buried deep in the settings on the 6T.
On a related topic, is it me or are the navbar gestures completely pointless? For example, the back button is supposed to be "swipe up from left or right side of bottom edge". The time I use the back button the most is in Chrome. But if you are reading a long page in Chrome swiping up from the bottom just scrolls up. Either I am missing something or the design and implementation of this is very poor.
There's an option to swap them under navigation bar customization
Ah, bitten by lousy modern UI design once again. It is darn near impossible to tell nowadays what is simply informational text on a screen and what is a clock able /touchable item. Thanks
