[Q] The age old question - SMS to MMS - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I know it's a question that has been asked many a time about Samsung phones but a slightly different tack.
I don't actually want to receive or send MMS at all, EVER!
Can I completely disable MMS on my Note 3 ?
I've looked at my APN but it doesn't seem to let me change any settings, they're all greyed out and non editable. Do I need to set up an new APN or something without MMS settings or something....
Any thoughts anyone ?

Make a note of your APN details before doing this, delete it, then just recreate it but make sure the MMS details are missing or the APN type is set to Internet rather than Internet and MMS. You need to be rooted.
Oh, and you posted this in the wrong section.

Mobilicity MMS

Hi I was wondering if anyone here knew about MMS settings for the new cellphone carrier in Canada called Mobilicity. They are similar to Wind Mobile. I read the forum on the O2 MMS settings, which helped a lot. However, i still cant get the Mobilicity MMS to work. Anyone have any suggesstions? Thanks
i'm gonna guess that this is you if not take a look lol
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1652256-Mobilicity-MMS
o yea
O yea, its me, i'm askin in both spots. The O2 discussion earlier does help a lot, cause it goes in detail about the MMS menu. But even after putting in those settings from the howardforums help, it still doesnt send or receive
Have exactly the same problem as OP.
same problem .. i have samsung vibrant and i can't receive or send mms
i double checked my mms apn setting and it's all good
what is the solution ?!
Simple solution
Copy the settings from mobilicity webpage mobilicity.ca/uploads/phone-manuals/NexusOne-Guide2.pdf, the only different thing that you have to do is under Authentication type select NONE, by default says not set or something like that, that's what they forgot to pinpoint in the configuration, by doing this I was able to send mms without problem, hope it helps
Hi I just wanted to add that I also had the same problem and what solved it for me is that I was missing some info on the data side of the settings, but I still had data working regardless. My phone is HTC Sensation and I used all the settings provided by mobilicity on there web site on how to set it up.
http://mobilicity.ca/support/phones...MMS-picture-messaging-will-function-properly/
if the link above is followed correctly with both the data and mms settings put in exactly the same then there shouldnt be a problem. Oh and also on the HTC you have this setting asking for the authentication type which should be set to none.
Go read my post on how to fix it !

[Q] Android MMS Settings

I am trying to find two things:
I run the HD2 on ATT. I dont need the settings, cause I already have working settings. What I am trying to find out is:
1) Where in the files, is the setting to change the MMS limit, and before you point me to the setting on the phone, thats not what I am talking about. on ATT the limit is 600k, but on the phone the Max I can choose is 300K so I want to know where is this info located and if its easy to change?
2) Can anyone tell me what in the kernel controls the data / MMS settings? The reason I have tried different kernels and the only two kernels that work are DFT on their released rom, and Projections, if I try to use M-DeeJays kernels, my MMS fails to send or recieve, so can someone tell me what module or what file I need to replace?
Thank you.
Anyone?
I found a thread about changing MMS values, but it only works for SDCard Android, not NAND, so again, anyone have any input? Members? Dev's? Fixer's? Anyone?
Again ANYONE have a CLUE?

i cant help with the 600k part, but i can say that i use cyan nand rom, and the mms settings are screwed for my provider, first i have to go in and select the correct active data account, then remove two duplicate but erronous default/mms accounts, that think theyre for my network, but dont work, and prevent the almost-but-not-quite-correct real data / mms ones from working, , then i have to alter the username to get them working, and the new settings dont work till you reboot, and you forget and test it and think its not working, and tear your hair out screaming till the missus tells you to grow up and get rid of that damned phone for the love of christ!
my point being its probably not an actual fault as such with that release, just the APN settings that are created that interfere with each other..
Actually no, the APN settings are exactly, I mean EXACTLY, I have 1 apn setting before updating the kernel, and after its the same apn setting, I triple checked and all the values are the exact same.
Mind you I am on ATT's network using the phone in 2g, which shouldnt make a difference since the apns dont care what network your on.

Cannot send/receive MMS

I finally have my Atrix (and love it), however there is something I noticed today that did NOT work: I cannot receive or send MMS.
It seems that in their eagerness to lock it to AT&T, motorola have removed MMS settings from the messaging app, and have locked the MMS settings to use only AT&T. Which is a bit of a problem, with me being in Singapore.
I already tried doing the access point setup and everything, but it just will not work.
Has anybody else outside US got MMS to work for them? If yes, how?
Never mind guys, I solved it. For Singapore M1, the settings need to be as googled, with two APNs:
1) "sunsurf" (no mms settings!), APN type "default"
2) "miworld", APN type "mms"
It seems the phone switches between the APNs for MMS sending / retrieval, which may take a few seconds. I thank m1 for their messed-up MMS settings... NOT.

have you tried setting the APN type as "default, mms"? (Wihout the quotes, obviously)
*edit* from another forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-625061.html ), it seems your settings should be:
1) apn internet
mcc 228
mnc 03
apn type: default
2) apn wap
proxi 192.168.010.002
port 8080
mcc 228
mnc 03
apn type: mms
i m trying now i will give u a feeedback asap
no. it doesn't work still searching....
Yeah, it surprised me that there is no MMS proxy or MMSC... there needs to be. Look at http://www.activexperts.com/xmstoolkit/mmsclist/ , maybe that helps?
>> MMSC http://192.168.151.3:8002 <<
I already tried all the possible combination for a correct apn make me crazy the only things now is trying to root the phone perhaps it helps
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
no, i allready rootet the phone and it is not working.
I'm on Swisscom.
I try Go SMS with the extra settings for MMS ... nope, not working :-(
The MMS is basically setup via APNs. The MMS settings there (MMS center, MMS proxy, etc.) need to be correct. For me, there even need to be two separate APNs for MMS and web. You could ask your network provider to push them to your phone, maybe that helps. Just say you have an Android one.
I am sorry to hear it does not work for you guys in Switzerland. I am not there, so a bit limited what I can do...
No prob buddy thanks to help,
i do a second apn just for the mms but it was what i tried from the beginning... i don t know , this phone isn't be regonnized from orange to be set.... i don 't know.
And i m back in us so i must wait 2 months before trying a new solution but still thinking...
If you can post some picture of your phone setting nobody knows,
Ok one more possibility... GingerBlur comes with its own apns-conf.xml . You could try pushing that to your phone without installing gingerblur. Make sure you back the previous file up first, though!
yeah perhaps but i still locking deeper where att set the phone's apn not so much time this week but i m trying ...
hi i found sms and mms configuration, but becareful change will effect after restart the phone

[q] cyanogenmod mms problem

I'm going crazy with the question of the MMS in this build of American Android. I'm from Spain and my phone company Telstra (yoigo). I tried everything I've read but can not send or receive MMS. The APN is correct. Not if the problem is the build or in Spain we have to change any line of buildprop. I would appreciate answering me to post it in my country.
Thanks
make sure max message size is not set above 300k
ROM default mismatch some APN data.
Try correct your APN data.
For example, in my case: MMSC rom defaul was h t t p://202.222.042.204:8002
but MMS only starts to work using h t t p://202.222.42.204:8002
Follow and type your APN data.(the correct one for your country and carrier etc)
Look carefully for any differences betewen rom default and carrier request.

The APN is correct. I have no problems with other builds. I come to think that only works in U.S.A. so I tried to change the DNS in the buildprop. This has not solved the problem. I connected and disconnected and have exclusive 2G connection on and off wifi as I read in a previous post. Neither works. Thanks for the reply. Can you think of something else?

i dont just mean teh message is actually smaller than 300k, i mean that the setting 'max mms size' is set to 300.
I cant find this particular setting in my rom, lol, but ive seen it given as a solution twice recently, I suspect the roms in question are using the tmobile 1000k default size, and those threads have reference to a max mms size setting in their mms settings screen.
reference one two

Sorry, I found the option in GO SMS, but not in the messaging program of build
Any other ideas?
I love this build. The only problem I've found are the MMS. Maybe it is a problem that must be solved by CyanogenMod guys

MMS requires Mobile Data on
Hi,
I can send and receive MMS as long as Mobile Data is on. However, adding a MMS APN does not work; when Mobile Data is off, MMS can't be sent or received.
I've verified the Netcom Norway MMS APN settings to be correct, and this works on my LeeDroid 2.2.1 configuration. For Cyanogenmod, this does however not work. I've verified this both on my DHD (CM 7.0.0) and HD2 (CM7RC4).
Too bad, as I configured the HD2 for my gf, but she does not have a data plan...
Thor
I can also confirm on hy Desire GSM on Telstra running CM7 stable that you can only send/receive MMS if mobile data is enabled.
Can anyone say if this standard/expected behavior for Android roms on Telstra?
Today i had a problem where i couldn’t send MMS messages using my SGS Android phone. Im currently running Cyanogenmod nightly 181 so i went looking for a fix.
This is what worked for me:
1. Download root explorer (It costs a few $ from the market, but well worth it) or an equivilent and give it root priviledges.
2. Locate the following file, telephony.db: /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
and
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
3. Rename the file. (e.g xxtelephony.db.xx) or delete it (I deleted it)
4. Restart your phone
5. Now try sending an MMS.
That solved my problem and i can now send MMS messages again. This fix may also work for other roms, so give it a try if you’re experiencing problems.
I had the same issue in my Desire S (Saga) with CM7. Send/Receive MMS only with enabled Data APN. I tried to delete the telephony.db and restarted my phone. After the reboot mms works fine, but they set my Data APN back to default (i renamed the apn to be sure that the data connection is disabled). I renamed it again. After the reboot also the telephony.db is back.
My first test was positiv, i now can send / receive MMS. Hope that this will not change.

Internet and MMS APN both working - Do I need to keep switching between?

Hi There,
Sorry if it's been answered but thread searches yielded only similar but not
definitive answers.
I'm running American Cyanogen 7 ROM April 10 version on my HD2.
Everything works perfectly except for the fact that I need to switch between MMS APN and Internet APN when I want to do either task.
I seldom send MMS' but would like to know whether I'm doing something wrong or is it just something we have to live with?
eg. I've got my data connection on, running the internet. If I want to send an MMS at that time, I then need to enter settings and change my APN to Optus MMS.
note: Once again, nothing wrong with my APN settings individually but wondering if I've missed a step where they both work in tandom?
Thanks in advance,
zee
Look at "apn type"
In the data one, it should be "default, supl " or perhaps "*" or maybe just "default"
It should not say mms in there.
Now in the mms one,(and the prob is likely to be here since you shouldn't be able to select an mms apn manually) it should ONLY say "mms"
When you change it to just say mms, the radio button showing it is selected should vanish.
now the phone will know to use one for data and one for mms automatically.
Thanks a million samsamuel!
