Interesting
Nice. Shame they didn't take some calipers to it to give us a thickness measurement
Awesome, looks like an amoled display too!
Well I'm not sure what to make of this. This looks like the smooth finish that was first leaked, so the chain link finish is still a mystery. This looks like a plasticky finish in the last pic though, I'm not liking that.
I agree. These pics aren't the best but it's not looking very modern or premium. Not a deal breaker yet though.

I agree, but I think if you only compare it to previous Droids it is a much better-looking device.
i want it on red.
Not really liking the size of the bezels. I thought for sure they would improve this from now on. Dont take after sammy moto paleeease!
I like the backside Kevlar look. still trying to decide between red (which is sexy/trendy but might start looking old quickly) and black, which is more businesslike.
Def. concerned about thickness... but I've had the DNA and Thunderbolt before that. I dont mind thicker devices as long as easy enough to hold.
I thik the device looks "ok" ... not the best, but not so bad that its a deal breaker by any means.
Concerned about the MGF + Kevlar
+1 to the people concerned about the MGF + Kevlar back. That looks awful reflective, which suggests it might be more like the glossy back on some of the older Droid RAZR models and not like the "soft-touch" back on my Droid Razr Maxx... That would be a huge disappointment for me. I've held off (it was not easy) finally replacing my 3 year old Razr Maxx with the new Moto X because it pains me to give up the battery on the Razr Maxx.
If this is a slippery, high-gloss back it might honestly be a deal-breaker for me. I one-hand my phone a lot and these larger phones make that cumbersome enough already.
Definitely going to need to try one of these out in person.

I'm hopeful that one of them (probably the black one that appears to be woven cloth type material) has a "grippier" texture to it, vs. hard plastic or something.
One thing to note, though, is that renders throw around reflections and glare and shadows to look cool. If you look at this render of the Droid Razr Maxx, it has that diagonal glare across the top and the Moto logo, with the back plate fading to a darker color at the bottom. In reality, it the Moto logo was not smooth (it has ridges, like the Motorola plate at the top on the front near the earpiece) and didn't get a gradient like that, and the back is all one color, and very matte/flat.
I'm interested to see what the metalized glass is, but I think I'd like a fiber/fabric back better for grip.
renders vs. reality

Good point - but the images that have be concerned are the non-render photos at the top of this post. I hope that glare/reflection is a little misleading - and it might well be. Plus as someone pointed out in another thread, some of the renders seem to suggest slightly different models and backs... though I take any render with a coarse grain of salt.
I think we're after the same thing, though... I hope we're not disappointed. I'm not using a case on my Razr Maxx and won't be on my next phone either (especially if it's this beast with the 3900 mA battery.
Some images excite me. Other leave me wanting more. But, no matter what. I'm getting this phone!

Wow that's a huge charger/power supply! Guess that's expected considering what it needs to do. Very cool.
This is great. We are getting close now. Personally I really want to see actual shots of the red back and the textured back being i will probably get one of those two.

By the way, the front looks hot as hell however. It's just that discolored back that's turning me off.

I really like the look of the back.
Also it looks like the DHD is slightly thinner than the Desire!
The Desire has that same gordy brown colour, i think earlier versions was titanium blue, like in solopalmari's early video, the early video also has a noise cancelling mic;(
Starting to like the look of the Zee better
JD
You thinking about changing your mind JD ?
Well it's personal taste really isn't it, I don't really like the look of the Desire, but I love the front of the Desire HD, the back I don't really like or dislike.
Personally I thought the Desire was quite the ugly phone and that the Desire HD is the improvement. Neither are as appealing to me personally as the HD2 aesthetically though.

JD
I like the design very very much.
My only concern is about the non aluminium part and how they fit with the aluminium parts.
I'm a bit OCD in that I like symmetry - so the front of the Desire annoys me somewhat, so I am pleased that the HD is symmetrical! I can forgive the back as I wont be looking at it so much

Couldn't agree more.
Both Desire and DHD are ugly as hell in my opinion, especially compared to HD2 - if only I could get a stable build of Android running on my HD2 - black screens happen more and more often the older any build becomes on mine
I have fell in love with Android since using it on my HD2 which has desired (no pun intended) me to get the DHD - the screen is the only thing putting me off!

Still a bit ugly aluminium...
While I can understand peoples views on the aesthetics of the DHD, surely most of you will not see the back while you are using the phone.
A large percentage will put the phone in a case or gel glove so will not see the colour of the back.
The DHD's aluminum case is a lot stronger than the Desire which is cheap bendable plastic and easier to damage.
The DHD phones hardware and software is better and the screen is larger, and, I have heard rumours, you can make phone calls on it.
I think it looks fantastic actually. Only issue I have is the plastic bits not being flush with the aluminum body, they look a bit off in some video's. Besides that I think it all looks pretty sleek and hopefully that issue is just a pre-release thing.
The black version looks way better than the brown imo. Thats what i didnt like about the deisre, that damn brown color was fugly.

I don't like the brown, but I do prefer the front of the DHD over the look of the Desire.
I'm not sure if I'll prefer the look of the brown DHD over my black Desire. I guess I'll find out when it arrives.
I prefer the brown version in the picture above ^^
I love the DHD looks! I have yet to see it in the shops though !

What's the deal with the two tone? Is it difficult to make the front white, too? And it's not only HTC that's guilty of this:
What is with the two tone? Is there actually some technical reason they can't use white on the front? I wouldn't mind a white phone at all if it weren't for this.
Eh. People just want different colors. The funny part is that these are the same people who will buy ****ty silicone cases and cover up their white back, so you can't even tell what color the stupid pos is.
Bottom line: People like options.

Exactly what I thought when I first saw the white one.
I also want the answer to this. I think its mainly regarding money saving during production.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
As I understand it, the white evo was originally a Best Buy exclusive. So, ultimately it was probably them who saw the two-tone and were like "well, I guess that's good enough. sold!"
As for why it's just the back and not the whole thing, I'd bet it's cost. This way they can keep all the expensive parts the same (including the screen bezel) and just repaint the back half of the phone. That part is just plastic, there's nothing really fancy like a screen attached to it.
I have one of the "two-tone" evos and actually like the look. Only thing I wish is that still had the rubberized coating on it like the black ones have.
F***ing. Hideous.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Not a matter of being difficult, but a matter of cost. Perhaps the pieces that are indeed different in color is sufficiently cheaper for manufactures to see it worthwhile to invest in.

It's interesting that they don't make a fully white one and just charge more for it, though, since people would most likely pay for it.
i have a white evo... i like to be different from the croud.. I also have a case for protection.
case for potection.
some of the white shows through... and looks good.
but if I want .. i do take it off. and it looks nice with the white.
why not the a white front?
1. it could be cost savings.
2. it might also be for the ladies and men that use makeup... it would make white face phone look dirty.
The screen would have to be "black" when off anyways, so I think it looks better to have the screen surround black (including the softkeys).
And to change the front bezel to white they would've had to make the power and volume buttons white, too. All comes down to money spent versus money made selling options.
White on the front bezel is annoying for viewing. (contrast vs. the screen, especially when viewing movies/etc)
-m
I have to say, I kinda like the feel of the white evo. My wife has one and it is completely smooth on the back. Unlike my older black evo that has a textured feel to it.
I have the white Evo, the reason for it was it's a best buy exclusive. Nothing about the phone is different from the black one. It's just different, and i don't use a case to cover it up. However, i wish i got the black one because of what it's made out of the white is smooth and i got cracks from taking the cover off already
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
It doesn't make much sense, I mean...they've had all white phones before.
But then again, I don't understand the concept of white on anything of this nature.
Whether it be a white phone or a white car etc.
It just gets too dirty and marked up and looks like **** over time.
Not a fan of the white, but my wife and I got our evos at the same time and she got white so we could tell the phones apart.

I got my white Evo at radio shack during the $99 dollar special. It was the last one in the store. They actually apologized for not having black. I didn't mind.

I can't really choose between the three. Although, the "white" on the Samsung seems better. Not sure why, but my One X seems a bit reddish.
Wow, Note is bigger than I first thought. Could I trouble you to do a picture of all of them with the same wallpaper as the One X? Mainly as a comparison between SAMOLED and SLCD, or whatever the One X has. You don't have to, but it would be nice. Thanks.

Well I guess I'll have to settle for the Incredible. Wish I could have One X on Verizon.
The S III screen is so dim and has so many problems. Its color is awful. Most of all it's just plain dim. Half the brightness of a One X. No contest there, that is an objective fact. Then there are the tints, ink marks, the Pentile jaggedness, ugh. And the BURN IN that comes later. A nightmare. I really, really wanted to get an S III but I can't see myself straining to look at it outside or deal with ink marks.
I wish S III had the One X screen. Oh man, I wish.
To hold on to my data I will have to have a puny little Incredible. I also hate Sense already and the stupid multitasking button. Settings button would be so much nicer, with long hold on home for multitask.
Are there any other good S4 phones with LCD from VZ? I started looking at the Rezound, but it just seems like such an old phone...but since it's so cheap maybe I'll grab the Rezound and then wait for another phone next year to get off contract.

I've been using sammys samoled screens for years now and have yet to incur any burn in.
Edit: note burn in is definitely possible and I could see this being a factor in your choice, just saying it hasn't been a problem for me. Even with gps use and obviously the screen is on for extensive periods of time, no burn. Although I have heard others, specifically those using gps regularly getting burn in.
Edit2: I do love the one x screen though, traded my girl the one x for her SGSIII and I'm still in awe of the screen.

Hi!
It does appear that the HTC One X seems a tad reddish. I had the HTC One S phone (returned it for the SG3) and found the screen to be fairly bright and the whites looked really white. Would you say that is the case for the SG3 phone that is shown in your photograph? By the way, that is a great photograph you took of all three phones side by side!
I've been Moto x user for almost a year and I have no desire to upgrade. My work issued me another phone which is G3. Guess what? Moto X has some significant advantages over over that phone, even though it's considered high end device. G3 colors look dull and washed out, not to mention auto brightness feature doesn't work that well. Black color is much deeper and white color looks much better on Moto X. It dims the screen way too much indoors. Here are some interesting images. One is at 100%(bottom) another is on 0% (top) brightness. Images are taken using Panasonic mirrorless camera.
If you are thinking about upgrade, make sure you check out your next device in person.

I took it apart once and it's very well built device, I would compromise grams for durability.
Camera is Ok I've taken some decent pictures with it. Most people don't realize that camera is just a tool and adjustments and conditions of picture taking is very important.
That;s the issue of all modern cellphones.
So Moto X users everywhere should be thrilled that you like the phone more than something else? Why should I care who likes what phone and how old said phone is? All that matters is what I like and can make work for me, not random people in the internet with unknown preferences and tastes.

Moto X is the one
I've been using moto handsets for more than 18 years, I'm crazy about flashing ROMs, Moto X is the first handset which made me stop flashing ROMs, only the new CM12 I flashed it then back again to stock so quick.
I cannot live without the smartness of this phone, it's the smartest, dealing with me smartly and differently at home, car and when even touched or talked to.
My next will be definitely the new Moto X 2014.

I really really loved my Defy and Defy+s. Those were the only cellphones that resisted MY wear without breaking or scratching. It's a pity that Motorola discontinued the line (and their hardware is so outdated).
But the Moto X 1 is the best of its time, no questions asked.

Lmao. Me and my friends call the company Hawaii ^^
It's pretty ridiculous that the bezels are this huge with a mono down facing speaker. Even the headphone jack is on the top, there's nothing that can explain the size of the bottom bezel...
The space at the bottom is annoying put something there or shorten the phone.
It is a minor annoyance
It's smaller than an iPhone 6/S/7 Plus, at least. It's shorter and less wide than the Plus, but it's taller and wider than the Note 7. Much closer to the Note 7 than the Plus, though. Thicker than both, but it's honestly such a non-issue with phones these days being absurdly thin already.
The huge chin just looks so out of place. They could have used capacitive buttons or something. Atleast THEN there would be a reason for such a huge chin, and also save us some screen real estate.
for that price, id rather get the iphone 7 plus
the design, the splintering of software features between pixel devices and non-pixel devices, the price ....it's enough to make me consider switching to iPhone if they stay in this direction

Because it's using a (very slightly tweaked) HTC A9 body...minus the button.

Yea, they're very similar.
They are big bezels but they're not exactly hollow. It does allow a bit more space for the battery by moving components forwards and if you don't like that, it's a place to rest your thumb whilst you're reading
According to multiple sources its everything we wanted in a google phone so of course people don't like it.
IMO its awesome IMO who really cares about bezels probably how they got a bigger battery in a nexus / google phone if oyu got the XL at least. With google its all about the software in the phones and the internals. Plus IMO people just mad b/c it looks like a dump iphone who gives a ****. IMO specs beat the iPhone 7 plus so does the price.
People just like complaining because its what they want finally just probably can't get it b/c of price. Well you need a job to get things you want. =)
Also HTC makes awesome phones like the htc m8 and we know how awesome their aluminum is on phones. So we should be glad its not a plastic POS like some other phones. And IMO glass makes it more durable but it is for the antennas thats why upper half on back is glass.
Sorry for vulgarness, just had to put this put there. Btw who cares if it looks like an iphone most people like iphones look.
