[help] nexus in car, auto power on? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys
i got my nexus 7 today to mount a card dash system. i have no problem with the power source because i have usb in the glove box. my question is, is there anyway i can make the enxus turn one when i turn on the car?
the tablet will be all the time conected to the usb cable, so, my idea is when i turn on the car/power, the tablet will power on instead of going only to the charging screen...
thanks in advance

If it is off, that is - powerd down-, it will not switch on. On standby, you can use 'tasker' app to switch the screen on, or start car-mode or any other app or function. Also you can try the docking - function in the day-dream settings. When worried about battery life, 'tasker' can switch connection off, set screen - timeout and kill running apps when power is switched off.

I am pretty sure the tablet will wake automatically every time power is introduced or removed when in sleep mode. (by default)
This is how i currently have mine setup to do. i use a push button toggle switch to wake the tablet.

I have just recently bought tasker and am trying to figure it out for my needs.

Automation screen on off help

So i placed my galaxy tab 7 in the dash of 370z.. its amazing i love it and i would never ever switch away from it. the only issue that im currently having is that when i turn the car on the tab gets power for a quick second then loses power while the car is turning over then has power again. Since the car gets that power for that quick second the screen turns on then quickly turns back off (i use screen off util) and doesnt come back when car is on. i need to find a way to make sure the screen is on when the car is on and the tab has power
Can't you wake the tab up manually
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Is there some sort of ROM or app that allows front soft keys for wake functions
Sent from my rooted Nexus1
Not that I know of

Im Sure there is.
BOCA or unofficial beta cm7 port should have these options
Ill also look, as my car radio was stolen last week, and I might need the tab in there now
im trying to avoid manually having to wake because well frankly that would be annoying... i can see it come on but when i crank i need it to not shut off.. i was hoping if i could find a delay on the screen shut off maybe
If it's not already, if you wired the outlet your charger is plugged into so it is hot at all times it might not do what it's doing, but it still might because when you crank the car the battery voltage may drop below the point that the charger cuts out. In that case a large capacitor like many use on big stereo systems may solve your problem; just ask your local stereo shop about them.

[Q] Nexus Car install test & FI mode question

Is there a reason why the tablet cant go into FI mode (Fixed Installation) without an OTG cable attached? I want to test out the rom but I don't have an OTG cable and I actually don't need one for my car install. I don't have any plans to usb host drives, etc.
Also, this is a stupid question but how does the ROM/tablet know that it is a OTG cable that is installed versus a regular 12v usb power source?
If I have to order the OTG cable that means I can't finish my install until it comes because I won't have access to the power button to turn it on/off. I can use tasker for the time being but would like to use the Kernel.
I have tasker set to two Events. power on and power off. If it detects any power source, it will a) turn on Wifi b) turn on GPS c) open Spotify d) Use Secure Settings plugin to make the tablet stay awake. If it detects no power, it will do the opposite and turn wifi/GPS off, kill Spotify and turn the display off in 7 seconds. This will work when I turn on/off the ignition.
I have a question though.. How can I get it to go to Deep Sleep using tasker? I understand Timur's USBrom's FI mode will make the tablet go into deep sleep when you disconnect power source. Mine is just killing GPS/WIFI/Display. Would turning the CPU clock down and killing most apps and alarm/wake features be essentially the same as deep sleep?

[Q] N7 only detects power when diplay is on???

Hello! I am running cyanogenmod and Timur Rom on 2012 N7. I have tasker to detect power on and power off but here's my trouble..
The N7 will only detect power when the display is on!?!?!?!
If the display is turned off or times out or is locked and I give it power, the display doesnt turn back on automatically. I turn it on manually with the lock button on the side and the battery shows no charge coming through.
With the display still on, i unplug and plug the power back in and it works fine!
I tested it on the PC. PC detects the N7 fine and sees the HDD. Even with the display off, the PC will detect the N7 and I can explore folders but the N7 still receives no power until I manually turn the screen on and unplug and plug the charger back in!
This is preventing me from doing the car dash install because I cannot depend on the N7 to turn on display automatically because it does not detect power with screen off. Only with screen on!
I have went through all settings a million times, tried every 101 troubleshooting step, and I cannot figure it out.
Please, please, please help me figure this out. It's driving me crazy! :cyclops:

[Q] Power down when charging stops??

I made a car dock for my Nexus 7 (2012, running SlimKat ROM, on Lollipop).
It works great, except that if I don't drive for 2 or 3 days the battery runs down to zero while it's sleeping.
Is there an app that will shut the tablet down (completely) when the charging current goes away (when the car turns off)?
I tried "Autosleeper", which claims to do it, but even if you set "power off" it only puts the tablet into sleep mode (at least on Lollipop).
Alternatively, is there a way to really minimize the power draw in sleep mode automatically (turn off all radios, timers, apps, etc. until it's woken up by power coming back to the USB port)?
** solved **
OK, I figured it out.
Autosleeper works fine (shuts down the tablet) if the tablet is rooted. Not otherwise.
** NOT solved **
I spoke too soon.
It works ONCE. If you boot the tablet, set Autosleeper to power off on loss of USB power, it'll do it once (and prompt for permission to root).
Even if you say "permission granted always", after it reboots it goes back to just sleeping, not power off.

How to turn off/reboot Xtrons (GS) unit?

Hi,
I have a 10.1" octacore Xtrons unit, the first one I had would shut down completely when I turned the ignition off. It died so I replaced it, and the replacement (identical) goes into sleep mode instead.
Plugged into the same wire harness, so they are hooked up exactly the same way. Any idea how I get this to shut down completely, or just reboot it? The power button just puts it into sleep mode, and I can't find anything in the settings.
Thanks!
Should be in factory settings under "other" there should be a option in there for you to have it shutdown or power off when you shut ignition off

Thanks!

I’m going to factory menu on “ other “
But i can’t found the option For turn off the device
Help pls that device drain car battery
To be honest, it would take months for it to drain your battery in sleep mode, assuming your battery is not bad

Had you ever found out how the shut the unit down completely. I am having the same problem. I have a DVR Front camera installed on mine and the camera is on 24/7. Mine is draining the battery after 1 day.
