Now I'm sad to get rid of Wireless Tether for Root Users. It got me though so many months of unauthorized tethering, but it doesn't have a toggle in Extended Controls.
Edit: Is there any way to make it remember my SSID and security? Every time I turn it on it resets to null and open.
Which built-in hotspot?
Are you referring to the built-in hotspot in CM6 or the official hotspot provided by Sprint? I just used started using the official hotspot today because so far wireless tether for rooted users app is not working in 2.2
I must say it feels comfy knowing now if my internet goes out I can just call up Sprint. Plus I think it opens up more COM ports over 3G.
My S4 is on it's way and the one thing I think that's better on my old phone is the tethering options. I have an inspire 4G with AOKP 4.2.2 and I use bluetooth tethering for my nexus 7, I also use USB tethering for my laptop. Very rarely do I use Wifi. But I want to know how can I do bluetooth and USB. It's very important that I'm able to do this because I work online and sometimes my internet is less then reliable and have to rely on my phone occasionally. Once I root this mofo, How can I do this? What works what won't work. I'm tempted to do the alteration to wifi tether I saw in another forum using the S4's stock wifi tethering but I'm not sure if I can revert the phone back to normal. I mean if I **** it up can I just flash a stock rom in odin or what?

It has to be rooted fisrt
Enable WiFi tethering
Stock Firmware I337UCUAMDB
As some of you may know yesterday i went through he!! getting my Razr M rooted. I did it. The reason for the root was the built in tether on the Droid Razr M doesn't work with my Droid tablets both running ICS. So I figured if I root and then get a tether from Google Play then it might work. Problem now is I've downloaded all of them seems like (accept FoxFi it sucks now because it makes you install a screen lock password that can never be removed.) I set these things up start the tether and no device can see them. My laptop, tablet destop all nothing. As if it weren't there. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong if anything. I've used wifi tether on my rooted Droid X and it worked great. Now not so much. There seems to be extra settings like select lan network. The choices are ip addresses. 192.168.1.0/24, 192.168.2.0/24, 192.168.3.0/24, 172.20.21.0/24, 172.20.22.0/24, 172.20.23.0/24, 10.10.1.0/24, 10.10.2.0/24, 10.10.3.0/24 what do they mean? Is this my roadblock? Frustrating as hell. Using 3rd party tethers for rooted devices has always been simple and effective. I used them on my Droid X because the built in version would drop out after 5-15 minutes and I'd have to turn it off and on to get it back. Now I just want to use my tablets. A USB tether would be fine with me if I could find one that worked on my tablet. I used to use PdaNet but it's bundled with FoxFi now. Suggestions?
Broke down installed Pdanet and Foxfi. Installed pdanet for tablets on tablet side. Made a connection to the phone via foxfi. The hope was foxfi would talk to the tablet where the stock tether wouldn't. No dice. Apparently the problem resides in the way to phone negotiates internet traffic. There's a connection there but no communicating is going on. I've spent too much time on this already. I can get us online through the phones via connectifyme installed on my wifes laptop. It seems a router between the phone and the tablet fixes the issue. Problem is there's no way to connect a router to a phone. While not perfect, it's better than nothing. It's just my wife likes being online during trips and that isn't possible now.
A co-worker had mentioned one of these apps to me a while back and I am investigating using them now. I have an AT&T S4, no root, stock ROM with NovaPrime Launcher.
Is this right?
-PDAnet was a USB only tether app, now it is combined with FoxFi
-FoxFi is a WiFi tether app
-ES File Explorer NetManager tool - this just turns on the builtin Android HotSpot
My Experience so far:
-FoxFi (free) did not work well for me. It worked breifly, I was able to download SpeedTest app and then lost connection and haven't gotten it back since.
-FoxFi today popped up the Android host spot setting and a message from AT&T that I need to call 611
-So I found out about ES FileExplorer NetManager and it seems to be working great, 2Gbps download and works while my phone is in standby(screen off)
-ES is also popping up the call 611 message now though
Remaining questions:
-does the 611 message mean that AT&T is going to start charging me for hotspot? Or do they even still charge for hotspot?
-I have AT&T unlimited data, has anyone determined if there is a limit on how much data or time you can use hotspot without AT&T detecting it or making you pay?
-Is there a widget to quickly turn on/off the setting in ESFileExplorer?
I own XT1060 and I don't live in US. I bought this for the sake of having a world phone and when I found out that wifi tetheing locked by Verizon and bootloader cannot be unlocked I felt doomed.
Tried many things and found a bug/exploit, I do this in order and able to reproduce the result
1. Use Easy Tether root edition, and tried tethering
2. Use Foxfi, and tried wifi tethering, it will complain error, ignore it
3. Use PDA.net and turn on wifi tethering, it will complain error, ignore it, then turn on bluetooth tethering, then turn it off
4. REBOOT, the phone will complain about unknown sim, just press OK
then go to settings, tethering and VPN settings and turn on the wifi tethering and voila it works and no root needed.

Good job. Maybe someone can use this to obtain root? Lol!
Where did you find Easy Tether root edition? I tried this with the Easy Tether from the play store and it did not work. I also live in the US and use Verizon though.
can you explain more clearly?
Ditto...

Do you need to do this everytime we want to tether? Or do we only need to do it once?
Did it work for you?
Has anyone confirmed that this actually works on the Verizon network?
My XT1060 doesn't do an Entitlement check with other SIM cards. It only checks for a subscription with a Verizon SIM for me. When I use my T-Mobile SIM, I can enable Wifi tethering through the system without a 3rd party app. But once I put my Verizon SIM back in, it checks my account for tethering.
i just use easy tether pro, connected by USB, and it works great for me

I did this 3 times, sometimes when the tethering fail, I did it and i get wifi tether again. I have no idea yet what can make the wifi tether get protected again. It works in SmartFren network in Indonesia

I think the title of this thread should be updated to state that this only work for the Verizon model WHEN it's not on Verizon's network.
