I found there are a lot of "debug" apps in the firmware for Z3,
and I'll introduce the most interesting one - "Tech Mode by Sony"!
With "Tech Mode by Sony", you can check what band you are connecting only with your Xperia.
I only confirmed "Tech Mode by Sony" aka TechMode.apk is avairable in the firmware for Z3 / Z3 Compact 23.0.A.2.98 / 23.0.A.2.105.
Here is extracted files from Z3 D6603 23.0.A.2.105: Download
[UPDATE]
You can get Tech Mode for Z1 or Z2 by flashing/downloading Customized UK ftf
How to check connecting band
1. Dial
Code:
*#*#*386#*#*
or
Code:
*#*#*585*0000#*#*
2. "Tech Mode by Sony" will be opened, tap what you are connecting.
e.g. If you want to check LTE band, tap LTE and if you want to check W-CDMA band, tap UMTS.

3. Check "Serv EARFCN" for LTE or "UARFCN" for UMTS
4. Open LG Space or some other apps such as EARFCN Calculator
e.g. Type number of "Serv EARFCN" to "Earfcn" of LG Space and click "Frequency ...".
Then you wil get band info like this:
For UMTS, click "UMTS Frequency" tab.
This is very useful if you are interested in network or unlocking bands.
Great! Tks for sharing this....
Anyway, tested on Z1 4.4.4 .133 firmware and all show N/A on the app. Some are display like IMEI......
Very helpful for me, T-Mobile would intermittently switch me to LTE Band 4 where signal was low instead of keeping me on Band 12 which gave me full signal. After disabling Bands 2&4, I am always on Band 12 now with full signal.
Not working for 5.1.1 on 6603
Great found!
Thank you so much my friend!!
It works on the Z2 with 5.1.1 ROM 264
Download the apk file, place it in system apps as 755 and reboot.. (you need custom kernel to write in system folder, or deactivate protection)
Thanks a lot
All other apps I've tried failed to read the earfcn Nr.
Hi @AndroPlus, I'm trying on a Z3C running stock MM 23.5.A.1.291 (booloader locked) D5803.
Both strings don't work. I mean, when I digit the last character "*" all the text I have digit (in the text dial number) is automatically deleted.
Is the apk working in this case?
Thanks

Hi,
I switch yesterday to Nougat from the last CM13. I try many Nougat build, and i get the same problem on all, i can't get the LTE band information.
In CM13 i used tool like "LTE Discovery" to grab it, but in any nougat build i was unable, app tell me some impossible info like Band 1 (2100mhz, this band is not in used for LTE in my country) or stay on unknow band.
I try many tool like LTE Discovery and the result was the same.
Someone know why ?
Did you upgrade your modem to the latest version before switching Android versions? If your version is too old, issues like this can result. Also, when you flashed the Android 7.x ROM, did you start from scratch, i.e. wiped system, data, and internal storage, before flashing? This is pretty much required when changing from one Android version to another.
Off course, i did all of this, i also tested the last 5 modem releases with the same result.
So what happens when you use a different ROM, such as the JDC Team's AOSP?
I have test LineageOS official, unnofficial and the optimized lineage by JDC, all based on lineage. I have download the JDC AOSP but not tested yet.

Insted of the 4G logo normaly this is the band number, sometime i'm on band 1, an impossible thing because this band isn't in use in my country ^^
Also i can say i have no problem to make a phone call or send sms.
I have try to roll back to CM13 and all was working normaly.
The real test is to see if you can get onto the Internet since some carriers route calls through the 3G network. However, have you checked your APN? This sounds like a configuration issue.
Yes i have check my APN and i'm sure it's ok.
I'm sure to be in 4G for data (see the screenshot) and for call i'm also sure to be in 2G or 3G because i don't have VoLTE for the moment (but it's another problem ^^)
You're getting high speed data, which means the LTE radio is working correctly. I believe your issue is related to the hardware drivers being used in the kernel. The problem isn't with Android itself or LTE Discovery, as I installed LTE Discovery just now on my Nexus 6 which runs Android 7.x. It's still being supported and thus includes up to date drivers, and my LTE radio reported the band number. You can try a different kernel and see if that resolves your issue, but you may simply have to live without the band data.
Thanks for your answers, maybe i can report the bug somewhere ?
LineageOS I believe has a Gerrit for bug reports.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ were recently updated to Android Oreo, and among its new features includes a full band selector (replacing the old service menu that was disabled with the security patch of November / 2017)
This mode lets you choose a specific network (as does the test menu in AOSP) and also choose a band specified within all supported.
Now, the only known way to enter this menu is through an activity manager (Nova Launcher or Quickshortcutmaker for giving examples) and look for the com.samsung.HiddenNetworkSetting app
When you find the activity, you must execute it and the next window will appear:
https:// imgur .com/a/61DJo
Where you can choose the network mode. If you open the side menu, you will see the other 2 options (Band Selection and 5G SA Mode) then select "Band Selection" and the following will appear:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here you can choose the available bands, and then activate the slider that says "Selection". In this way, the band chosen as the default (Remember that if you select only one of the bands, you will not have CA)
I remember again that this method only works with builds based on Android 8.0 Oreo (RAP or RB7)
I remember again that this method only works with the builds based on Android 8.0 Oreo (RAP or RB7) and I do not know if it will work on other models besides the international variants of the Galaxy S8 or S8+ (SM-G950F / FD and SM-G955F / FD)
That is all! For now, I will be alert to possible doubts, but I remember that this app is only available through a hidden activity within the Oreo update, and I do not know if it will be maintained in successive updates. I will continue informing.
Thank you so much
Thank you very much for this useful info and for some unknown reason I am not getting Band 40 in band selection menu even when I am 100% sure this phone support TDD band 40
Hi,
I have new unlocked Axon 7 Mini and after Nougat upgrade there is a new VoLTE option in the menu. I can turn it on but nothing happens. My carrier is Vodafone Czech Republic and it supports VoLTE, for example on my second phone, Nubia N2, with the same sim card, when I turn on VoLTE, the icon appears in statusbar and everything works. On MTK phones there is also hidden Engineering Menu (*#*#3646633#*#*) where are some IMS settings, and is possible to set "operator_code" and "mncmcc check" to get VoLTE working.
For Qualcomm Snapdragon phones, I found this guide here on XDA:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/guide-volte-vowifi-german-carriers-t3817542
But when I open "PDC" app in my QPST start menu folder my device is not listed and there are no options to change.
Is here someone with an european carrier and has VoLTE working on Axon 7 Mini? If you know how to get it working, please share your experiences.
Any help will be much appreciated. :good:
I did a modem image backup from my phone - the file NON-HLOS.bin can be opened in WinImage and what is interesting, here is the directory structure:

There are modem configuration files (mcfg_sw.mbn) for different operators in different countries. It looks like that Vodafone VoLTE is supported in these european countries: Deutschland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and UK.
And other interesting thing are these "secret" codes:
*#*#6266344#*#* – SW MBN Configuration.
*#*#3266344#*#* – HW MBN Configuration.
*#*#33266344#*#* – setMbnAppState: false
*#*#76266344#*#* – setMbnAppState: true
- The last one enables hidden application "MBN Test" which allows select particular "mcfg_sw.mbn" files mentioned above and activate specific modem configurations for particular operators in various countries.
My idea was to activate MBN configuration file for example "VoLTE Vodafone Italy" which may contain similar configuration as Vodafone Czech Republic. But when I try to activate it, phone is immediately restarting and after restart the settings are gone and the default MNB file is loaded, which is, in my case, OpenMkt-Commercial-CU.
Here are some screenshots from the app MBN Test:
Also I have tried to add the IMS APN but it has no effect at all.
How can I start the 'MBN test' app after enabling it via *#*#76266344#*#* ? It's not listed in my app launcher.

The "MBN Test" icon should appear automatically in your launcher once you have activated the app using the code.
And *#*#33266344#*#* code hides the app shortcut.

I forgot that I'm running LOS14.1 which does not support VoLTE and doesn't have that test app. Too bad. I want VoLTE and LineageOS!
My mobile operator not support VoLTE (Poland Play)
SM-G950FD missing GSM850 band
My S8 is missing GSM850 band. I probably never noticed that, but the problem is that this is the only working 3G band in the area I live now. I forced to use my older SM-G850W to get my service. To my understanding, GSM850 just disabled on this Russian variant. I have already tried to Odin similar ROMs from South Americas (same CSC: FOX) with no change.
Device Model: SM-G950FD
AP Firmware: G950FXXSBDTJ1
CSC Firmware: G950FOXMBDTJ1
CP Firmware: G950FXXSBDTJ1
Firmware Country: SER
Is there any way to get GSM850 enabled? Is flashing with G950FOWT9DTF1 possible? Will it help?

Technically the S8 with Exynos (like your device) should support GSM 850 MHz.
You can try to set the mobile network mode manually to 3g or back to auto - see my screenshot.
I did everything but it seems like the band is physically disabled (please see my initial screenshot)
The only way now I can imagine is to change modem/country...
As in android 11 i was able to access
Com.example.tmo.bandmode
Using activity launcher
And i forgot to reset the bands and updated to android 12, now i am stuck with band 1 of LTE, and now i no more have access to band change activity
Anyone can upload the com.example.tmo.bandmode apk from their android 11 build? Or a solution to change band, as i badly need it in my locality.
Without root.
