Camera shutter sound and app list lag - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am trying to disable the shutter sound without rooting but i can't get it to work. Even in silent mode the camera still makes noise.
Do you guys have lag any lag when you open the list of apps that you are running to go from 1 app to another 1?
Thanks!

My recent app takes 2 seconds to load lol it's so slow and the shutter sound doesn't go away when it's in silent mode
910F

On the tmobile version there is an option to disable the shutter sound. I also experience lag with the recent apps.

Bugs in stock 2.3.3

Hi
I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread with found bugs in the 2.3.3 software for the X10. Please report other bugs here.
Audio Stutter
Missed calls on lock screen (But there is no missed calls, something else triggers this message
998 MHz: Full processor speed.
Camera menu doesn't rotate in portrait
Anyone more than me with f**ked-up calls? You can't hear the other parts. Just some strange noisenoise. Happened yesterday, and today.
The camera works only in landscape mode.

Your camera does not work in Portrait mode?
Or you mean the menu does not rotate?
In my X10, camera DOES work in Portrait mode...
Even Upside down, it will work...
But the menu stay in Landscape mode only...
Why not just say the menu does not rotate...
Instead of saying camera does not work?
Is your camera stop taking picture in Portrait mode?
It might be a feature and not a bug...
bugs for me:
- unable to open any https webpage in any of the browsers (dolphin,stock,opera...)
- when going to m.facebook.com and clicking any external link it does not work, tried all the browsers
These 2 features used to work perfectly on 2.1
Yes, you are right. The menu of the camera is not rotating from landscape to potrait. for me it feels like a bug.

I don't have any issue accept RAM. Although it's low but the phone run smooth.
there's a similar thread here fyi
Ok, the camera menu seems like a bug.
continuing in that thread then. Thanks
I personally think this is a better thread with the bugs in the first post. I'll read the other One though. Not all issues in the other thread are bugs...
- ugly looking UI & apps,
- one way camera UI,
- music app much behind from Mediascape (o.k., equalizer, but the rest is crap)
- calendar like from stone age, useless
- not any connection between UI of stock apps, like they were doing a car from different company spare parts
- ...
I'm still on 2.1.B.0.1, rooted and JIT.
Regards, Zagor
Im closing this cause there is already a 2.3.3 issues thread

[Q] Turn off camera shutter

Hey guys.
I'm having a slightly annoying issue.. Namely the camera shutter.
I can't turn the shutter noise! And I'm not even using the original camera app. If I do there's not even an option for it. In MX Camera, there is an option to turn off the shutter sound, but it doesn't work. I'm guessing this is LG's fault.
It is not illegal in my area to mute the camera.
Anyone know how I can do this?
This doesn't work?

Nope. It keeps making the shutter noise.
Can u turn it off with stock camera?
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Is it the default shutter sound? If so, try renaming 'camera_click.ogg' (and 'camera_focus.ogg') in the /system/media/audio/ui folder...
Try these...
Try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oss.mcam&hl=en
Or this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hantor.CozyCamera&hl=en
These two works silently well in my G2...
On the stock phone app if you put your phone in silent mode, the shutter sound is silent. At least it is on my at&t phone with the Aeon 2.1 rom which has a Korean base.

Right, I have a LG G2 on Wind Mobile.
Hardware: LG-D801
Software Ver.: D801V11b
Tried several 3rd party camera apps such as Camera MX / Line Camera without success.
Setting to Silent/Vibrate and manually toggling the volumes within the stock system was unsuccessful.
Tried Glen's Camera Mute and was unsuccessful even with toggling Enable/Disable and with a tester version with built-in volume adjustment.
I think rooting may be the only solution, but I'm new to this game so I'm still trying to figure out how to root and how I'm supposed to make the camera silent after rooting.

I am rooted. Haven't checked since I installed AOSP though. I can't imagine the issue is still present.

So... before you had this issue and after rooting no more issue?
Is AOSP a rom?
I guess Verizon did one thing right, you can turn the shutter sound off on the VS980.

AOSP is "pure" Android, with no custom UI etc. It seems like the issue is gone now yes.

There is an option for it in the stock camera on the 802, it just doesn't work. Most likely a bug or something like it.

AOSP Means Android Open Source Project. It's the basic Android that is launched on for example Nexus phones, without a new UI from say, Samsung or HTC.
It is not something you are going to install simply to get rid of the shutter noise, however I (And many others) greatly prefer these versions of ROMs over the bloated ones from the phone companies.

WIND Mobile D801 here. Can confirm that the Camera mute app doesn't work, silent mode doesn't work, no option for disabling shutter sound from in the app, and renaming the file with ROOT does nothing.
The audio must be within the camera app somewhere, but I can't figure it out. Please help! So frustrating.
I have Verizon and I can turn off the shutter sound for camera, but not for video. :crying:

[Q] N910H Camera Shutter Sound

Hi,
Does anyone know which country N910H ROM has native option to mute camera shutter?
I am hoping to avoid root. While taking pictures of birds and animals I would like to turn of shutter sound. So I would like to flash such official ROM
you can mute it with enforced stream silencer.
Thanks for the reply. I would still like to know about the country with that option available.
you can mute it on all models of the note 4.
To my knowledge, there is no option to mute camera sound in any note 4 version in default. It's only available in custom rom, or custom camera software. Or you can just silent your phone, and the camera will also silent

Do you see his question? He is asking that if note 4 has native option to mute the camera sound or not. He is not asking what application used to mute the camera sound. I believe you that you can mute the camera with enforced stream silencer. But once again, check his question man!
I included screenshot of the option if you still doesn't know what he meant.
i know what he meant. he wanted an option to mute camera sound. enforced stream silencer gives you that option. you can turn sound on. you can turn sound off.
what is so difficult to understand ?

Not true. My stock Verizon Note 4 (SM-N910V) has an option to mute the camera shutter in the settings. It didn't at launch, but a subsequent update added it in. Some carriers in the U.S. had it in the settings for the Note 4 at launch. I didn't have to download any additional or custom software.
It's not included by default on all versions of the Note 4, but it is on some.
My understanding is that in some countries is illegal to take silent pictures (S. Korea? ) and there is no option to turn off sound in camera settings. My tmo version has ot included. I think that easiest way is to just turn off phone sound from notification panel right before taking picture or press and hold power button and mute phone from device options menu. It is not permanent solution but will do the trick.

EVERY note 4 can silence shutter sound. there are some which do not have the option IN THE CAMERA MENU. in those devices you download and install this application (attached) and click to silence it. in the others you click on the camera menu which does the same thing.
there - how complex is that to understand ?
you do not need root to silence it.
you do not need to go to silent mode.
you do not need to flash a rom.
you do not need to change countries.
all you need is to expose the enforced stream toggle option. which you can do without root by installing the enforced stream silencer app.
While I appreciate everyones response. I would still like to know CSC of 910H variant which has this option available as default. Any 910H variant user who has it, kindly reply.

Buggy/Laggy Camera App

Does anybody else find the camera app a little buggy/laggy on occasion? Sometimes it works quick and flawlessly, but other times It stutters to take photos or takes a while to process them before the next photo can be captured and stutters even when I'm rotating from portrait to landscape.
exactly the same here...i'm disapointed.
someone else or is my unit faulty ?
I've yet to encounter any lag in the camera app and I have been using it very often. Even shooting multiple HDR shots I don't notice any lag in the camera app while the HDR is still processing for previous pictures.
I am usually not running other applications when using the camera though. Camera lag may be the result of having too many apps running at once.

That's what I'm assuming is going on, but I expected the phone to do a better job at killing apps to give priority to the Camera app. I came from using CyanogenMod so I'm not sure if memory management is handled much differently in stock Marshmallow. I also experience stutter loading Google Play Music, Facebook and activating Google Now on a few occasions. I'm a heavy multi-tasker and switch back and forth between dozens of apps in just a few minutes.
Could this also be 810 throttling?
I'm noticing this as well. After double-tapping the power button, the camera app sometimes takes a few seconds to launch. This happens even if you set the gesture to open up a third party camera app. It also sometimes pauses after capturing a picture and lags when you switch from portrait to landscape. I had a Moto X Pure Edition that I returned to buy this phone, and although it had other faults, I never experienced this issue on my MXPE.
I've had similar trouble, usually when switching to the gallery to view a video and rotating the screen. It's frozen up pretty bad a few times now, end up on a white screen for media player, swipe it away in recents along with gallery and camera and eventually it comes good. Early days still I guess
same here and sometimes stop working
I had it constantly force close yesterday, had to reboot to fix it.

I have the same problem. Camera freezes up when I move out around and it lags when u tried to take a picture. Music stutter on Google play when rotating screen. Any solutions?

I believe the music stutter when rotating the screen is caused by the L and R stereo channels switching speakers. On my N6 (probably true for 6P as well), the top speaker is L and bottom is R when phone is in portrait orientation.

Front camera laggy

Since after an update (b184) my front camera is super laggy and not smooth like before. This happens only with the stock app and not always, with google camera it is smooth. Clear data and cache of the app doesnt help, I haven't tried factory reset. Any other idea that might solve it ?
I haven't tried other camera apps. But the lag you say is the common problem BUT it is not that big issue. When you record video, it becomes 30 fps. However to take a picture, you need to keep phone steady as possible as you can
I have the same issue, just use google camera
Yeah but stock apps are always better than 3rd party. I need the integrations it has, swipe from lock screen, double tap volume down, direct link with gallery and I don't want to use another gallery app for that.
