screen mirroring problem - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all
i have problem to connect my push to tv device with note 4 after i rooted but before root working fine now gives me message "unable to start screen mirroring becouse of a hardware issue" .
anyone can help me to fix this issue .
im using n910u rooted and cwm
im using wanam and xposed
thanks

root is the problem! unroot and try again!

yes
without root working perfect but with root not working how to solve this issue without to remove root

My ex G3(root) ex Z1(root) worked but my ex S5(root) and Note4(stock) dont/didnt work on my Samsung smart TV, go figure.

Any work around on this? What is the best way to unroot and then root... I have twrp using sprint note

I wonder if an app that hides root would allow for screen mirroring. http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-hide-root-access-from-apps-that-detect-root-on-android/
Not being able to screen mirror is the only thing preventing me from rooting

If your device is stock unrooted you shouldn't have this problem. To which device are you trying to connect for screen mirroring?

Im trying to use the built in allshare cast to connect to my samsung smart tv. I could mirror with my rooted note 3 no problem before. But with the note 4 it says connected on the tv then it goes black like its going to load the mirror but never does...and on the phone after about 30 seconds of saying connecting it says device failed to connect. So it sounds like that hdcp issue..but im not rooted so idk how to fix it.

Hi I have the same problem.
I have the same problem with my note 4 it is not root and not connecting. How to solve this problem?

Thank you, my N910C screen mirroring worked but the screen is smaller by half. I don't know what happened I just followed exactly what you said in build.prop now the touchwiz is half the screen and everything is smaller by half, if you can help, please help to restore the screen size to its normal size.
Best.

[Q] Screen Mirroring Problem With rooted devices...

Hi,
I am using Samsung GALAXY S4 (I9500) and having samsung player which supports screen mirroring.
when i flash STOCK (official rom) it works properly(screen mirroring) but when ever i root my device or use any custom rom like OMEGA 11 it just shows me errors when it connected to player then automatically disconnects and says like "screen mirroring disabled" or " process cant be proceed some hardware issue"
i dont know why this problem is coming... is there any way to over come the problem
even i re-flash the kernal (stock ) but it still says hardware issue or disables the screen mirroring.
even i tried it on 2-3 samsung 3d led's which has in built screen mirroring option...
it only works when my s4 is on official rom ( WITHOUT ROOTED)
i m using "INS-I9500XWUBMG5-20130726135849" rom
please provide me any soliution...
Thanks...
I am having the same problem. I am not sure if other people have tried to use the mirroring option with custom roms or rooted devices. I will keep checking if I find something.

Same issue on Note 3
Newbie rooter here:
I am having the exact same issue on my Note 3 (N900) just rooted without custom ROM.
I have tried unrooting with Super SU and root checker shows no proper root access however the device status is still showing custom.
Really dissapointed that its not working now with my Samsung all share cast dongle.
Any advice or suggestions appreciated.
I am on WanamLite, with Perseus, screen mirroring works perfectly fine with my television.

DjeMBey has a working method. See this thread:

I flashed the provided OFFICIAL STATUS MOD file via Odin & then used Wanam Xposed to 'fake system status'. This changed my Binary status to official & screen mirroring is now working on my rooted S4 (I9500) on 4.4.2 (19500XXUFNA6). Try it & let us know if it works for you ?

Screen Mirroring (aka Allshare Cast, Miracast) on modified 4.4.2: libWFD_ENGINE.so

Maybe a few of you have recognized that Screen Mirroring is not working on modified Samsung stock roms when you are rooted, or have an otherwise "modified system" status.
This is due to a restriction of Samsung, which is coded into the file /system/lib/libWFD_ENGINE.so
There are a few threads regarding this, unfortunately I did not find a patched file for our Note3 on the latest 4.4.2 stock roms...
See here for reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2556527
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421642
So there have been successful attempts to port this for some devices as you can see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542509
A guide how to do it is for example here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551086
Does someone of you have already a patched libWFD_ENGINE.so?
If not, I will try to do it for myself and share it here, but I would prefer if a more experienced developer could do this, it would do us a big favor!
Regards,
Markus
UPDATE:
edit: tried to start for myself, but there is no such file existing on latest stock 4.4.2...
this is not good, as this would mean that this attempt would not work!
does anyone know in which file the restriction is now?
UPDATE 15.07.2014:
here seems to be a proper solution:

there would be no simple answer,
either someone has already patched the file and would like to share,
or we would have to try for ourselves to patch the file according to the

yes, status change and root cloak do not do the trick!
so there must be again some coding which prevents us (rooted users) from using screen mirroring on 4.4.2!
what wonders me:
why does this not bother more users? for me this is a major flaw, because i want to use screen mirroring AND of course root!
so please, if anybody has an idea please let us know!
It has nothing to do with root... cause on the stock kernel and 4.4.2 screen mirroring works... also with root

I just thought it didn't support screen mirroring to the devices I have (Apple TV, Chromecast). I have All cast installed. Should I be able to mirror my screen?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
i also have the same problem with screen mirroring. with 4.3 it works perfect, but with 4.4 it is not possible.
i used the original firmware including root, or different custom firmwares. it connects for 1 second and abort after this.
also i used the stock kernel, that changes nothing.
it is possible to connect to chromcast or also DLNA Mode, but miracast on an wifi stick ist not working.
hope this will be possible, because it is also a main feature for me.
On a Samsung smart TV it works flawlessly with stock kernel

i used the CloudnetGO CR-M200S, here it doesn´t work. on an samsung s3 with an custom firmware 4.4 i can connect...with the note3 not
also with the s4 it works.

even i change Stock Kernels.....still not work
I see no valid reason why it should not support.... the fix specified in the title of the thread could work on 4.3 i did not have the chance to try and it did work on other phones like galaxy s4, its simply a process or something that is denying the connection...
What i did is, i super wiped my phone to factory default and wipe scripts and i flashed stock rom, kernel and recovery 4.4.2 on my SM-N900, since i own a rather expensive new Samsung smart TV i wanted the "privilege" to at least see the feature before i decide if i can live without it....
Setting aside for a moment my bilnd anger for paying top dollar for top of the range appliances by samsung only to loose many features when trying to have the phone suit my needs far far better then sammy did OOB.
So i Flashed the stock.. everything and i finally got it to work after being rooted...
I am now rooted once more and even though i still want the function to work rooted (because perhaps then it can be tweaked to work better then close to crap)
i can say that it aint a big miss in its current state.. in the basic function the image is delayed by about avg of 400 ms making games unplayable. perhaps closing any other source of wi-fi (since it connects through wifi direct if im not mistaking) can push it to 300 ms delay to 250ms but nothing lower, adding to that a small delay in input from a sixaxis controller and you surely cannot play a game of any kind exept if you want unmerited added challenge or simply love frustration... as for browsing or any other function, its nice but if you have a smart tv its quit useless.
i cannot fathom why Airplay mirroring works so well and i mean very very well.. once you figure out how to optimize it on the network.. there are moments that its flawless (even more on the apps that have the same function such as airserver and reflector) My HTC one also will not connect to the TV via miracast even though i know it can, i did not delve in to the issue since i have the HTC Media Link H200 HD. which also connects through p2p wifi of sort.... and works again almost as good as airplay but more hiccups. i havent tried any other dongle yet but i love the concept of the feature and think that we are headed to screen mirroring being heavily used in coming times.
but from what i tested allshare cast with SM-n900 to smart tv (samsung series 8) works very poorly, i am still searching the web and codes and info to try and understand why because i would love to get it working and maybe even tweaked.
and BTW Samsung Smartview app that is used as a tv remote that allows you to watch the tv and control it from your phone remotely does not work when custom code is used..
P.S
when i got it working. i changed back 1 thing at a time. first custom recovery.... then tried after that root... then tried and so on....
once i flashed the custom recovery, still did nothing with it and only flashed the recovery image even without entering it.. broke the function
Any update?
Not connected with routing, but since 4.4.2 I had two issues:-
1) It would try to connect and then just give up. To fix this I held the Dongle-12345 link down until it says "Connect with pin". This allowed me to connect but lead to problem 2
2) All I got was a blank screen. it seems to make the AllShare Cast Hub go into 1080p/30 !! This is an unusual (but valid) mode that not all TVs support. On my Panasonic TV I get a blank screen but on another TV it works. It seems to totally disregard the TV capability with LF21 or LJ02 firmware and I cannot try anything newer because the firmware updater has been withdrawn by Samsung
Not very impressed!

Nope. It might have been the case for the s4 but allshare cast still works after root albeit it mad fidgety and crashes after a few minutes. I have no idea why you would use screen cast anyway with all the alternatives available. Anyway the answer is yes it'll still work. It did for me.

I don't think so. Root gives you a custom status, which prevents you from getting updates. You need to get them off of sammy and odin them to your device.

Thanx I'll get back to you when I have trIed these options.
I successfully rooted using towelroot and installed supersu. I also installed foxfi. It was able to get me past the mobile hotspot problem but still could not tether. It requested I install pd(something) On the computer first..Wil this always be the case? Can I not tether without installing that on the computer?
Also I have had to reset to factory settings because i happended to activate "talk back", the result was that the phone kept reading everything i touched but thats all it did meaning i could not select anything, not even switch off or do anything!! Not even unchecking talk back..instead it would read out loud "talk back" and the phone was hanging so bad ..another thing is the foxfi prompted for a password which then took over the screen lock. I went to screen lock settings to disable but the option of disabling was unavailable.
I have also noticed after trying to use the Light touch option that it works so terribly on 4.4.2. The whole screen un uniformly flashed pink at every touch in such a way that an epileptic would not survive the effects. I had to switch the phone off for this to be disabled as well. So there goes the woes of my Samsung galaxy s3 sch-I535 Verizon. Anyone able to address all my issues is more than welcome. Note: foxfi did not sort the tether problem. It sorted the hotspot though.

[Q] Samsung S4 - No MHL-Connection (with correct HDTV Adapter)

Hey guys,
I would like to mirror my Samsung S4 with AppRadio Unchained to my Pioneer 2DIN unit in my car. The audio unit does have an HDMI input, several people do mirror the phone's screens with the help of a Dongle or HDTV adapter. I purchased the Samsung S4 HDTV adapter ET-H10FAUWEGWW and tested it, but my phone does not connect via MHL. The smartphone will be charged when plugged to the adapter, though.
I also attempted to mirror the phone to a Samsung HDTV, but the TV does not receive a signal, either.
I tried to mirror a Samsung S3 with my adapter on the Samsung HDTV and it worked flawlessly. I guess, the problem with mirroring my phone to a HDTV or my car audio unit is, that my S4 does not connect via MHL. Do you have any ideas why my phone does not connect?

Having read several posts, I guess the Kernel is the problem. A lot of people say that a modified Kernel with KNOX counter x1 will prevent the smartphone from using the MHL connection.
I am using this kernel: samsung GT-I9505 jfltexx KOT49H.I9505XXUFNA5 4.4.2 2
Is there any chance to use a rooted kernel and to use the MHL connection?
Thank you guys in advance!
EDIT:
Is this the right way for a solution?
- Flash stock kernel - which Kernel must be used for a German Vodafone S4 4.4.2?
- Use triangle away
- Check again if MHL is working
EDIT 2:
My knox warranty void is 0x1. Does this mean I cannot use Screen Mirroring anymore?
Thank you guys in advance!
