kingroot rooting app - update 17/7/15 - One (M8) General

Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone wants to try it. It seems capable of rooting the m8 by downloading and installing an apk. There is also a pc version which may have more success.
Simply install the Kingroot app then run, unfortunately it is half Chinese, but it's easy to use and you can work out what it's doing.
Upon opening the app it will tell you if you're rooted or not by showing a tick or lock symbol. Just click the lock symbol to start the root process. Wait while it does it's thing, at the end of it if successful it will show a tick and the Kinguser superuser app will be installed for superuser access, which thankfully is in full English and is quite good.
If you don't get the tick the first time try again as in one my tests on one occasion I had to do it twice as the first time I didn't get the tick.
I have now uninstalled supersu and I'm using this now and have full root access.
I fully unrooted before trying this.
My M8 is boot loader unlocked, so not sure if it will work if you are locked, but it's worth a go. Please report success or fails
I have managed to root a tablet also with this method.
http://www.kingroot.net/down#master
EDIT: have relocked the boot loader and both the android and pc version both were able to gain root. Although it did take a while for the pc version to complete.
UPDATE 17/7/15 : For anyone thats interested there is a new version of kingroot that is having good success at gaining root on lollipop and locked devices.
kingroot v4.5
All versions: http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application

Not working for me on a new untouched M8 on 4.4.3. Tried it twice, no root and no superuser app. Will try the PC version later.
[edit] No luck with PC version either, after several attempts.

Nope, did not work for me. I'm on 4.4.4 and the boot loader is locked.

Strange, wonder what the reason is. Wouldn't have thought being s-off would affect anything, but I don't know?
Does towel root not work for you guys either?

It worked for OP because his bootloader is unlocked.

also such rooting apps are only working with unlocked bootloader, except if you use sunshine, but it costs 25$ and it will give you s-off and root even on locked bootloader

Seems it doesn't work with the latest update as its not working here now, not only that looks like the update has patched the boot loader as i can no longer boot into recovery unless it's flashed to the phone first.
what's this a vain attempt by htc to force people to unlock the boot loader before rooting?

i think it has something to do with Android 5 as it will be more difficult to Root ...maybe they had to change something in bootloader
but yea those root apps will only work if bootloader is already unlocked

Then what's the point? Lol

The bootloader being locked or unlocked makes no difference. We typically see people OTA update fails from people who have modified system apps/files or installed a different kernel.
Ah ok. I had previously rooted it. But decided to revert back now that I have installed 4.2

So, can you unlock the bootloader on 4.2? Or does it even matter on what Android version you are on?

Oh and welcome to the Android world
The bootloader is unrelated to the version of Android you are running.
It is a " boot loader" that runs before the operating system is loaded.
Unlock it once, when you first get the device - and it should stay unlocked forever.
Nothing to do with root either - except the bootloader has to be unlocked to root the device.
Root and unroot the device as you like - just never mess with the bootloader after you unlock it.
Unlocking purges all your files...

One more question does rooting with tool-kit and giving the device superuser cause issues with updates from google?
I really don't wanna run a custom rom.
also if I check the button USE CUSTOM RECOVERY it will use CWM right?
If u want OTA, don't use custom recovery. Only unlocking and rooting don't mess with OTA.

This is wrong having a custom recovery will not prevent you from receiving or installing the ota update. Its actually better to use a custom recovery because when you update it breaks root and twrp will ask you if you want it restored

Xperia Z4/Z3+ Root Discussion

There appears to be no discussion thread about root for the Z4/Z3+, so I thought one was in order.
I'm currently about as useful as a snooze button on a smoke alarm in terms of obtaining root. I'm curious - is there any development going on to root our devices? I'd love to donate and what not to possibly speed it up.
Let's talk!
BL unlock is not listing this device on Sony open devices
Flashtool from androxyde doesn't have the device listed as well, so I doubt BL could be unlocked.
Regarding development
I managed to unpack the blog_fs FILE'S from Emma so there we have the kernel.sin maybe we could unpack it with Android image kitchen, but I didn't succeed, Android magic was missing or something like that!?
If that could be possible, then we could repack twrp radish with zimage of the kernel.sin and perhaps have a working recovery maybe as FOTAkernel.
But that's just wishful thinking
First we need unlocked BL
And then we also have all the loss of DRM keys. TA partition and all that also needs to be in place, unless we're willing sacrifice a bit hehe...

Even with a bootloader unlock, is there any custom recovery for the Z3+?
Sent from my Xperia Z3+ E6553
Did any one try to unlock their Sony Xperia Z+ yet? Or any one try to see if it is unlockable by following steps.
You can check if it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your device in the service menu by following the steps below:In your device, open the dialler and enter*#*#7378423#*#**to access the service menu.Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
I am going to build a custom recovery incase the bootloader unlock allow says Yes..
Update: Yes it is allow to unlock the bootloader. I am waiting for my device then start working

By right if the bootloader unlock is stated as not allowed, you can only root your phone through an exploit. Other xperia phones exploits have been found (like my previous z2, i rooted it without unlocking the bootloader), I most certainly do hope one can be found for z3+ as it would allow all the DRM stuff to be backed up and its "neater" imo.
Otherwise, if no exploit is found, then no, you would not be able to root without unlocked the bootloader to install a custom rom.
However please check if you signed in to myXperia service. If you did, you just need to sign out and reboot, then your status would be back to allowed. That is only if originally the bootloader is allowed to be unlocked.

At this point, I see no mention of anyone working on any sort of exploit for the Z3+, this is a bit disheartening! I'm considering the new OnePlus device at this point since I'm sure root will not be an issue for that phone. It'd be a shame if it came to that since I love the feel of the Z3+

Did you activate your MyXperia app? If so, this could result in your phone indicating that the bootloader is not unlockable, even though it actually is. If you didn't activate this app and it still says no, then yes, it's not unlockable and you will not be able to install custom kernels / ROMs. Note that custom recovery can still work on rooted phones with locked bootloaders.

uhm where is this myXperia app you guys are talking about? I searched the app store and the phone and cannot find it. Under settings, there is a "Xperia Connectivity" section, but no option to sing out.
Googling the app did give some results and I did land on this page, which I was logged into. I logged out and rebooted the phone, still says "No" to unlock bootloader.

Root and Bootloader Unlock AT&T XT1097 on 5.1

The latest KingRoot now can root the ATT Moto X on 5.1 (for real this time). I had to factory reset my phone before KingRoot was successful.
First backup your stuff. Then download the latest KingRoot apk from their website and install the app. Open the app and click on root. It may take several tries but it will work. Once you have root download Sunshine and click through the prompts, allow root access, etc. Enter payment information and unlock the boot loader!
So many times have I been let down by this ... I don't know if I should try it and get my hopes up. I'll be devastated if it doesn't work. xD
Edit: Well, looks like I am going to have to find a magical unicorn to gift you for this information. Indeed it works! Thanks much!

Unlock bootloader and ZTE Updates

Hi,

If I have the ensure that I can update my phone, also with an unlocked bootloader, I perform the procedure the first day that the phone arrived at my location.
You know if there is a safe way?

Is it because the update "delete" the root access? Or something else?
If it is the delete of the root access, I think that i can re-root the phone after the update (I have an unlocked bootloader with TWMP installed, so I can re-install Supersu or similar). Is it correct?
Yes you can. I did with the help of @DrakenFX information he posted.

It's because root and apps that use root make changes to partitions (such as boot and system), and when the update checks those partitions, it sees that something has changed and will not apply.

At the moment, there is no official bootloader unlock method for the A2017G. However, one is coming. Report to @rikin93 post here about that.
There is the unofficial way posted by @DrakenFX and showed to you by @swehes that's reported to work with the European version but since an official way is coming in the near future i would wait, it's not like unlocking now would provide anything at the moment.
About updating, it seems like a safe option to do so. It seems that @DrakenFX way of unlocking is working on both B02 and B03 anyway if ZTE ever wanted to not unlock the bootloader even tough they said they would.
